What's new

India (448/5d) wrapped up the opening Test with an innings and 140-run triumph against West Indies (162 & 146)

Sai Sudarshan maybe talented but he struggled in tests in England as well.

What makes selectors think that Tilak Verma cannot be successful in tests? He is not a hack. Has a good all round game. I would have given him a chance.
India will go through the process.

Ravi jadeja -100!
Go ya Kathiawadi Rajput swordsman!...

Must say in 2025 - tests - his batting has gone up several notches

:salute
I think it's been said before but at home, Jadeja is a cheat code of a player.

Over the last 5 years, he has a batting average of 40 and bowling average of 20. Throw in the fielding and we're essentially playing two and half cricketers. It's tough for oppositions to line up 11 vs 12.5.

Abroad he more or less has become a high quality lower order batter who can turn his arm over. Batting average of 49. Bowling average of 41.

Jurel should be tried at no. 3 instead of useless Sai Sudarshan.

Jurel also scored a match winning 90* in the 4th innings vs England last year at Dharamshala.
Number 3 is a tough position to bat at. He is better suited at current position

It's 3 or 6 though

1, 2 - Rahul, Jaiswal and 4,5 Gill, Pant are locked down. 6 won't always be available since we might choose to play the extra bowler like in this game.

I think he does seem to have the technique to bat at 3 especially at home. Away, we'll have to see.

Exactly as I said. At least 2 full players.

This is so bad that that I feel sorry for Windies. They should give up test cricket and focus t20.

More the case that Test Cricket needs tiers. All teams outside top-5 would suffer the same fate. West Indies, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afganistan and Pakistan have no business playing top sides in Test Cricket. Will always lead to such lopsided phainta.

Then how would they improve? There should be at-least two test match series with top teams every two years.

I know, that's why these things are difficult to implement. When you focus on the quality of the contest, then it does have its side-effects. But I honestly hate no-contests like this. It's hard to take records seriously when this becomes a norm.

India have done them a kindness by declaring and bowling again.

Finish this match in 3 days and next match in 2 days and let them rest and prepare for Bangladesh ODIs.

For West Indies cricket , automatic qualification for 2027 World Cup is more important than meaningless Test cricket.

Playing top teams doesnt make you improve.

How much have Bangladesh, West Indies improved despite playing so much?

Even Pakistan how much as it declined while playing test cricket.

You gain nothing from one sided embassing losses. But two division scenario will allow players to at least build some confidence playing teams at equal stature and then give them the chance to move up.

But promotion/relegation is necessary. One of the sticking points with two tier is that big 3 want to be excluded from relegation. If that's the way the two tier is going to be then it's pointless.

This is a good pitch for Test cricket. But sad, the quality of opposition has been simply awful.

West Indies' last five Tests vs India in India
Kolkata, 2013: Lost by innings & 51 runs
Mumbai WS, 2013: Lost by innings & 126 runs
Rajkot, 2018: Lost by innings & 272 runs
Hyderabad, 2018: Lost by 10 wickets
Ahmedabad, 2025: Lost by innings & 140 runs

Look at win margins for india. Absolutely dominated :kp

Doesn't benefit West Indies cricket at all
Don’t care. The just need to get better

That’s their problem.

They won a test in Australia

Also they are missing shamari jospeh
And alzarri. Maybe next game will be a better fight with those 2 playing.

If they don’t play big teams they won’t learn

Did India stop touring West Indies back in 80s and 90s when we used to get butchered ?
No

I don't think India got butchered like this did they?

We got butchered at home lmao moreso than away weirdly enough.

To this level of thrashing I guess maybe sometimes? Not often. I mean we did compete somewhat in those days.

regardless we still need to play these teams otherwise they won’t learn. Plus shamari josheph dint play so it will be interesting next game I suppose.

India make WTC gains with massive win over West Indies

A spectacular display in Ahmedabad sees the Shubman Gill-led side close in on the second spot in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship series.

An elite all-round performance from Ravindra Jadeja saw India kickstart their home Test season in style with a win by an innings and 140 runs against the West Indies.

The victory on Day 3 in Ahmedabad provided a valuable boost to India in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship Standings.

The two-time finalists are currently third in the nine-team points table, with a 55.56 PCT after six games in the 2025/27 cycle.

The 2021/23 cycle winners Australia and Sri Lanka currently occupy the top-two spots in the standings.

Having been put in to bowl first in the first of two-Test match series, the hosts had bundled West Indies out for 162 in the first innings, courtesy of a strong showing from the Indian pacers.

Looking to establish advantage with the bat, India were bolstered by centuries from opener KL Rahul (100), wicket-keeper batter Dhruv Jurel (125) and seasoned all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja (104*).

India would declare their first innings with 448 runs on the board. Jadeja then, mounted further pressure on the visitors with the ball, snapping four wickets in the second innings.

Mohammed Siraj, who also notched up a four-wicket haul in the first innings, contributed with another three in the second as India ran through the Windies batting for 146 runs.

For the West Indies, Alick Athanaze (38) and Justin Greaves (25) showed some resistance but were unable to snatch the momentum from India.

The win marked the Shubman Gill-led side’s second consecutive victory in the ongoing World Test Championship cycle.

Their previous outing against England at The Oval saw them draw a pulsating five-match series 2-2.

India and West Indies will next face off in Delhi for the series decider starting October 10.

Siraj didn't get a chance to bat, not fair..
:mv

Tbh Siraj's 1st innings 4 wicket is more impactful than Jadeja's hundred and wickets..
Nope, player of match is usually given to the best player of match from winning side. Jadeja deservingly got it.

not necessarily always from winning side...there have been instances of guys winning MOM from loosing team...am pretty sure Andy flower got a MOM againts us in 2001 series which zim lost...
am also sure Brian Lara got a MOM vs SL in 2000 or 2001 or 02 - he was the only guy who played Murali at the peak of his bowling and scored bucket loads but Murali ran thru the rest and SL won....
But yeah , such instances have been few and far in between as one guys needs to be absolute outstanding to achieve this and rest 10 guys need to put in absolute dud performances :)
