India (89/2) defeat Scotland (85) by 8 wickets in the ICC T20 World Cup

Have you watched recent test series in England ? You will get your answer if you watched that series.

Yeah scored around 326 run in 8 innings with a fifty and a hundred. Apart from that in 6 innings he scored less than 30 runs. He scored with an average of 40 I guess.

But I agree with you avg of 40 in England is remarkable as per Indian standard, considering their track record in England.

It was that before today's game but what want to know before the Afghanistan game. It was in the minus. Want to see how much they took it up by in 2 games.

It was definitely minus. Big minus actually.

Last 2 games have propelled their NRR.

Afghanistan vs New Zealand match might break all time viewers record lol!!

Future ICC tournament rule will be if India has higher NRR then we add 2 extra points as bonus

Afghanistan is the 2nd best country in the World. We believe in Afghanistan's Supremacy .Dil Dil afganistan :stokes

Future ICC tournament rule will be if India has higher NRR then we add 2 extra points as bonus

Pakistan need bonus points for net run rate as they were out of 2019 world cup due to Net run rate .if india out of this tournament then it's not about run rate as we have higher net run rate than anyone else:ashwin

I am in stadium and it is hillarious, Indians are celebrating and dancing like as if they are beating mighty Don Bradman’s invicible Aussies of 1948. With Chants of Chadra Gupt Maurya all over stadium.

Kiwis did not tour Pakistan which was not good but Bhoy let’s hope Kane Williamson silence 1.4 billion people on Sunday afternoon.

Why are it hilarious? They are there to enjoy the game and their team doing pretty well shouldn't they celebrate?

India did a mistake by chasing the target so quicky. Now since they are above Afg in run rate, Afghans will try to not only win but improve their run rate against Kiwis. In the process they will lose the plot like most minnows would do.

India should have chased the score in a manner where they would just be above NZ but lower Afg in run rate

:genius

Actually, Indian batsman did very well against Pakistan. From 6/2, it took some effort to reach 151. Had Pandya chipped in a bit, we could have reached 170 too. What let us down that day was bowling and dew. Indian bowlers caught off guard and didnt knew what to do.

The NZ game was actually shocking and terrible peformance. I have never seen Indian batting so poor what we witnessed that game.

Sensible enough. We have seen teams struggled to 140+. I still think 151 was fighting total it was just babar and rizwan day.

Against NZ i don't understand whom decision it was to mess up with batting order. Virat is not no. 4 batsman.

Other thing india need to lookup is for how long they can afford to go with half fit players in WC.

India hammered Scotland by eight wickets in their Group 2 encounter at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2021.

India demolished Scotland in Dubai, tying them in knots with the ball after winning the toss and opting to field first, bowling the Scots out for 85.

And in reply KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma starred as India raced to 89/2 in just 6.3 overs, securing the win and a huge net run rate gain boost.

Virat Kohli’s side went into the Group 2 fixture knowing that only a win would keep their qualification hopes alive.

And the quest for that victory got off to a terrific start as four Scotland wickets fell inside the first seven overs after Kohli had won the toss.

India’s spin trio then hammered home the advantage, with Ravindra Jadeja the pick with 3/15 off his four overs, as Scotland succumbed to 85 all out after 17.4 overs.

And the openers put on the quickest 50-run opening stand of the tournament so far, with the chase wrapped up in just 39 deliveries to lift India's NRR to +1.619, the best in Group 2.

Astonishing chase

Rahul and Rohit put in a devastating display of power-hitting to race to the required target in Dubai.

The impressive Mark Watt took the ball for the start of the Powerplay and leaked just eight runs in a tidy first over. Yet that was as good as it got for Scotland, with every other over going for double-figures as the opening batters tore into the Scottish attack.

Brad Wheal did pick up the wicket of Sharma for 30 off 16 balls, but that barely slowed the scoring, with Rahul reaching his sparkling 50 off just 18 balls in the next over.

The 29-year-old was caught in the deep off Watt, going for a big hit to wrap up the win. And Suryakumar Yadav sealed it in style with a stunning six off his second ball.

Powerplay wickets set the tone

Earlier, opener George Munsey had got Scotland off to a strong start with a gorgeous flicked six off Jasprit Bumrah and three consecutive fours off Ravichandran Ashwin.

But a bamboozling slower-ball from Bumrah got rid of captain Kyle Coetzer before Mohammad Shami had the dangerous Munsey caught by Hardik Pandya.

And the spinners took control of the game after the seamers’ breakthroughs, with Jadeja striking twice in the seventh over to leave Scotland 29/4 and with a mountain to climb.

Leask’s efforts not enough

Scotland’s lively middle-order hitter Michael Leask showed his class with a quickfire 21 off 12. But any hope of his side reaching a competitive total evaporated when Jadeja had Leask trapped LBW.

And the innings crumbled thereafter, with three wickets falling in three balls in the 17th over two Mohammed Shami dismissals sandwiched an Ishan Kishan run-out.

And Bumrah finished the job with a trademark delivery to clean up Mark Watt and finish with 2/10 off 3.4 superb overs.

NRR opportunity

Defeats to Pakistan and New Zealand in the opening two matches have taken India's fortunes at the tournament out of their own hands, but Kohli and company could still qualify if Afghanistan beat the Kiwis on Sunday.

In that circumstance Group 2 will come down to a tie on six points, with net run rate critical. And the crushing nature of this win is a big help to India in the NRR stakes, meaning they will know exactly what is required against Namibia to seal that qualification spot.

India kept their hopes of reaching the semi-finals at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup alive with a comprehensive eight-wicket triumph over Scotland at the Dubai International Stadium.

Knowing they had no margin for error after losing their first two Super 12 games against Pakistan and New Zealand, Virat Kohli’s men produced a superb bowling display to dismiss Scotland for 85.

Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami both finished with figures of three for 15 while Jasprit Bumrah (two for 10) and Ravichandran Ashwin (one for 29) also impressed with the ball.

KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma made easy work of the response, scoring 50 and 30 respectively before Suryakumar Yadav hit the winning runs as India reached their target with eight wickets and 81 balls to spare.

After calling the toss right for the first time in this tournament, birthday boy Kohli put Scotland in to bat knowing that chasing would be better for his side’s net run-rate in their bid to overhaul the Black Caps for second spot.

Scotland enjoyed a bright start to life at the crease though as George Munsey launched Bumrah for a huge six over the square-leg boundary off the final ball of the first over.

Munsey continued to play his shots against the returning Varun Chakravarthy, who came into the India side in place of Shardul Thakur, reverse sweeping the spinner for four in the next over.

Bumrah eventually made the first breakthrough in the third over, bowling Kyle Coetzer as the Scotland skipper looked to drive to leave his side at 13 for one in the early stages.

But Munsey continued to look comfortable at the other end, following up a watchful first few balls from Ashwin to strike a superb four that bisected extra-cover and mid-off.

Two further fours from the last two balls of the over via reverse sweeps took Munsey to 23 from 14 balls and saw Scotland finish their first four overs at the crease on 25 for one.

Varun restricted Scotland to just one run from the next over and with pressure mounting, India got their man in the fifth over as Munsey smashed Shami to Hardik Pandya for 24.

Having finished the powerplay on 27 for two, Scotland suffered another setback in the next over as Richie Berrington was bowled without scoring by Jadeja.

It went from bad to worse in the final ball of Jadeja’s first over, with Matt Cross following Berrington back to the changing room after being struck lbw on his back pad.

Scotland stopped the bleeding in the next over with Calum MacLeod and Michael Leask at the crease but they could only add three runs to take the score to 32 for four.

Leask provided a response in the 11th over, pulling a short ball from Shami for six despite hitting the top edge of the bat before drilling the next ball for four straight down the ground.

But Leask’s resistance was ended in the very next over, becoming Jadeja’s third victim after being hit lbw while attempting to sweep through midwicket as he departed for 21 from 12 balls.

Scotland were now well and truly on the back foot and following just one run off Bumrah in the 13th over, Chris Greaves lost his wicket to Ashwin after skewing the ball to Pandya.

Mark Watt joined MacLeod in the middle and a misfield from Shami allowed him to find the boundary in the 15th over before edging Ashwin for another four in the next.

Shami made up for his error with the ball in hand however, taking two wickets as he sent MacLeod (16) and Alasdair Evans packing either side of Safyaan Sharif being run out.

Bumrah wrapped up the innings in the 18th over, beating the bat of Mark Watt (14) to take his leg stump on the half-volley as Scotland were left stranded on 85 all out.

In response, India did not hang around - knowing they needed to reach their target in 8.5 overs to go past New Zealand’s net run-rate and in 7.1 overs to go past Afghanistan's.

Sharma and Rahul set about their task intent from the off, with the former hitting Watt for four in the first over before the latter found the boundary three times against Brad Wheal in the next over.

Rahul added another four from the first ball of new bowler Evans before nonchalantly clipping the next ball for six as India reached 39 without loss through three overs.

Sharma took the attack to Sharif with a six and two fours to bring up the fastest team 50 of the tournament to date while Wheal was also punished before taking the wicket of Sharma.

That did little to stem the tide though, with Rahul hitting Watt for six over the long leg boundary before bringing up his half-century from 18 balls.

Rahul was unable to see his side home, losing his wicket to Watt off the final ball of the same over, but Yadav hit Greaves for six to secure victory in style from just 6.3 overs.

Exactly, Afghanistan shot themsleves in the foot playing against India Badly. They will have a muddled approach and thus it will be their downfall.

Mate you will need tissue after receiving pasting from England/india.it will be fun to see fans reaction after overhyping team to moon.

Relax I actually want india to do well, and I will be the first to admit they are miles ahead of Pakistan I’m just enjoying the moment.

I still don’t think pak will win the tournament , I like most on here thought we would get hammered in the group stages so it’s refreshing to see
