What's new

India end Day 1 of the 2nd Test on 36/1 after bowling out Australia for 195

Irrespective of how India bat in response, 250 to 300 was par here. I guess Ashwin wickets in top order were the key .. if Australia do the same it’s game on

To be fair , we dont have Kohli, Shami or Ishant and we lost the toss as well. No chance in hell for us. But despite that 36 all out, we have done better than the 2 teams who toured last year who never looked like even competing with Australia :P

Nikhil bhai ki mini moral victories during the innings. :inti

I would be surprised if India can get past 50 runs in their first innings on this pitch

Yea should be around 10-12 overs I guess. Nothing good comes out batting at end of day for few overs

Fully expecting Gill or Agarwal or both to get out.

Bumrah and Pujara will be batting at the close.

India’s competition ain’t those teams (Pak and who else?). After South Africa, India is the touring team which gives Australia the most competition even when Aussie sides are full strength.

The other team was actually New Zealand. They were ranked 2nd and still got trashed by Australia. I dont think current Saffer team would do much here either. They are a very weak team and are getting beaten at home as well. And England usually get thumped as long as it's a half decent australian side . This OZ side is a bit too strong for anyone at home.

Yea remember that but not huge sample set.

I think Kohli’s captaincy on the field has been good too overall recently. The opposition tail ends up hanging around too long but dunno how much of that should fall on Kohli

His selections have been atrocious right from his very first Test in Adelaide where he preferred Karn Sharma over Ashwin. And he does not really back players, drops key players like Pujara and Rahane after few bad performances, causing immense dent in their confidence. Not surprising that he has a record for not playing the same XI in 2 consecutive Tests.

As for his on-field blunders/misses in Tests, I could dedicate a whole thread to that. He is a much better captain in LOIs but not as much in Tests. And anyone who has followed India closely in Tests over the last few years know this.

Yea current Saffer side is weak but they have actually WON their last 3 series’ in Australia (kinda hard to believe) so you can’t take away that from them. Even the one which toured last time wasn’t that good but got the win. Also this australia side isn’t that great either in all honestly. Their batting has lot of passengers. Wade, Head, Paine and to a lesser extent Burns are all passengers

India can potentially put the 36 jokes to rest here if they go bananas this innings.

Oh man I'm too nervous to watch us bat after that humiliation. I'm off.

Will check the scorecard after an hour. But I'm pretty sure we'd be 30/3 or something by the end of day's play.

Kohli better captain in LOIs?

He is the worst in LOI.

I think he’s a bad ODI captain tbh. Tests I haven’t followed as much but the scorecards tell he’s been good asides from not closing innings

Repeat of 36 on?

Looks tough out there and Starc looks pumped.

Starc in this mood could send 3-4 Indian batsmen back early.

When he's in the mood he's difficult to stop.

Argawal is terrible

He’s been found out so bad

Done and dusted.

Unbelievable he was not replaced by KL RAhul.

Absolute walking wicket

Bring on Cummins. Hazelwood doesn’t have same fire 🔥

How many players you wanna drop from one test to another l

It's not just his captaincy . I get a feeling that he and shastri are imposing a certain style of batting which is harming our chances overseas. Kohli, and consequently, the rest of the batting lineup are consistently trying to come forward to 135 + bowlers in conditions that re not exactly flat. Kohli prefers that and Shastri being a yes man is certainly not gonna opposite it. England 2018, NZ 2020 and even last test you could clearly see that our bats are not trying to use the depth of the crease and play the ball late. The better prepared batting line ups are all looking to play the ball as late as possible. Australia, New zealand even mickey arthur trained Pakistan to play the ball late and hence the success In england. It just gives batsmen that extra bit if time to adjust and makes a huge difference. Need a proper coach who can make these changes and prep them for overseas tours and strip kohli of captaincy and give it to someone who is willing to listen.

Thank God India didn’t send a night watchman

First Shaw and now Mayank. Indian fans have no patience these days thanks to Pyjama League. KL Rahul will be the opener in the next test and the cycle continues. :inti

Not sure KL is much better as a Test opener at the moment, can definitely bat in the middle ir lower middle order though.

Based on what? KL struggled similarly in SENA for long. Agarwal is one of the reasons we won the series in 2018. He will get his chances.

Wow, Cummins on song too.

India should be worried about 36 lol :))

Lol Pak-NZ test was such a sleepy affair compared to this.

Kohli is a mixed bag - he has been good bowler’s captain as he is the one who has developed this excellent pace attack. But yeah sometimes his batting selections baffles logic.

But to compare Rahane with Kohli after 1 innings & thinking about him as long term captaincy solution is insane - Rahane first needs to prove that he still makes it to the team after his not so stellar batting record last 5 years. Simply put there is no alternative to Kohli till anybody can prove their consistency.

Cummins should bowl bit slow to his KKR team mate Gill. Shahrukh Khan should have made a phone call to Cummins before the game to arrange things :srini:

Is Agarwal another 2 series wonder like Rahul?

Been a while since he made a score.

Man what a pace lineup this Aussie lineup has. :salute:

Gill plays last ball with middle of the bat. Just because he struggled this over doesn’t mean he’s gonna get out cheaply

And every time there is a batting collapse, Kohli and Shastri come up with - we will show more intent and force guys like Pujara to play aggresively (that inning in NZ where Pujara and Vihari came out swinging their bats and got out caught in the deep being a case in point).

Cos Aussies had no data to analyse where to bowl to Argawal back then

Now this is international cricket and the fraud has been completely exposed.

Pujara needs to be solid and take good amount of balls.

KL Rahul doesn’t look like he’s shivering when facing the Aussie pace attack.

He can actually smack them around

Cummins was McGrath regen against us, their whole attack has been firing this series.

Cummins really has been great regardless. Great mental strength from someone who missed 5 years of test cricket

Wow....this is just hostile pace bowling. 195 that Aussies scored is now looking like 350 here.

People here taking 36 too seriously, India is a much better team than that , that happens once in years .

This is one of the all time great bowling attacks.

Yep. In the 2018 india series they did well but not great but the reason was theh jsut weren’t getting enough rest between innings.

Cummins is not going to get off that line. He is relentless and will find the edge eventually. He's McGrath like in that.

Best bowler in the world.

You can get any data in this internet age even from domestics. I am pretty there are enough videos of Agarwal’s Ranji batting was out there for Aussies to review last time.
He is going through a rough patch now but so did most of Indian openers in SENA. And I don’t think we have any replacement for him waiting in the wings. He made into the team after scoring consistently in Ranjis and A tours for years and Indian TM wouldn’t want to waste that.
