Someone should inform these two that this is not the 5th day of the test match. :inti

Exactly ,this is only increase England chance of winning as india winning chance is going away .200+ target on fifth day is not easy but who will score that runs if they not scoring any runs.

Pujara should be kicked out of the team. 11(96) is terrible. With his innings, Indian win is now out of the equation.

Even if Pujara bats out the entire day, he would not score 50 runs and the scoreboard will not change much. England will still have a chance to win tomorrow.

Problem is that both batsman want to score 30+ runs anyhow so they can't dropped for next test . Selfish batting

Cheteshwar Pujara reached 11* (100) at the Gabba earlier this year, and has just reached 12* (100). They are his two lowest totals at this stage of an innings.

Gotta hang tight, these two till tea at least....
else its all over for today
what a golden chance we have missed...
could still be proven wrong....

This is a complete farce by Pujara.

Horrible horrible batting.

I lost count of how many scoring opportunities he missed.

25 runs in 20 overs after lunch.

Where was this in WTC Final? Could have saved us a loss there.

Ball is turning here .we will miss Ashwin in 2nd inning .

India’s lead is 51 and this is the 2nd session in play. 47 overs are left for the day and at current pace India’s lead could only be around 150 by day end. Even if they go at 3 RPO from here on lead might touch 200 and would need atleast another session tmw to put a score which they think they cant lose the game. That is if they are able to bat through all these sessions.

Doubt Ashwin could have done much in 1 or 2 sessions in Eng in these conditions where the spin isnt that much.

Honestly very very very impressive field placement.

Root's captaincy has been pretty good.

Barring reviews of course lol.

He should have never made it to the squad. This is what happens when teams are selected based on reputation.
India lost a golden opportunity to try out youngsters in these conditions. We may lose. But any youngster who puts up his hand would serve india for a long time.

Maybe he might have not let England score so much in the first innings.

Might have been smashed too.

But no one will know.

Pitch looks flat. Lots of opportunities to score runs. But these 2 are fighting to survive.

I don't even want to talk about our team and captaincy.

Everything is rotten from top to bottom.

Feel like there is a LOT more going behind the scenes.

What a great field placement by root ,he knew exactly where Pujara can score runs .

Given that the tail starts from no.8, even if all goes good, we will most likely get to 220 all out with 80 overs left tomorrow. England should chase that.

Unless the pitch changes drastically, yeah that will be chased with minor hiccups.

Atrocious batting display by Pujara, one of the worst knocks ever in Test cricket history. If India loses, he should be the one to blame. I would rather select Shaw or Gill over him in the next Test if he doesn't accelerate.

Rahane, and Pujara in particular, essentially look to be playing for a draw here. A very negative mentality.

just looks a matter of time.....
both living on borrowed time
a pity that our young guns gill and Washi are back home in india...

Lawry boycott misbah gavaskar must be loving every second of Pujaris innings.

Pujara and Rahane battling it out on a flat pitch and Sanjay Manjrekar doing a commentary on them is pure GOLD. :inti

Moeen troubling Rahane.

Comedy batting technique by Rahane against spin.

Pujara looks more assured against Moeen.

Fifty runs partnership between Rahane and Pujara for the 4th wicket, vital in the context of the match.

A “wall” partnership, but the problem with it is that they have scored so slowly. If one of them gets out, followed by Pant and/or Jadeja getting a failure, then the door is left wide open for England to chase down a relatively low score.

I hope they can continue this into tomorrow. There is no chance of us winning this. Try and just make England bowl as much as possible.

These 2 are doing a decent job solidifying and slowly edging the lead forward, despite the 1.67 run rate pship.

Pujara is rebuilding after India were in trouble. He has built a platform for Pant to attack from and set up the declaration. This is proper test match tactical batting.

78/3.

By end of day, it will be close to 160 but there is a high chance we may lose 4-5 wickets in process.

So a 160/8 or even 160/7 is not a good reading for India.

The 50-run partnership between Pujara and Rahane came in 175 balls. There has been only one slower 50-run stand for India in the last 20 years - that came earlier this year!

Hanuma Vihari and R Ashwin took 246 balls to reach the 50-run stand at Sydney to save the Test.

What is your opinion on the ball tampering that is going on in this test match? :inti

The pitch seems to have died, or these two have batted immensely well. It would have been interesting to see how a quality spinner such as Ashwin or Lyon would have bowled on this wicket.

If we can score another 150 runs (not that it's easy by any stretch of imagination), this test will take an interesting turn.

Said it on Day 1 that India should have picked Ashwin.

I have a feeling Indian TM and captain Kohli has probably understood now that leaving Ashwin out on this pitch was a big mistake. Hence, they are playing this for a draw.

They probably know this pitch is not gonna help their seamers all through the day tomorrow so 220 may itself be not enough to win. If Ashwin and Jadeja combo had played, they could back the duo to defend 220 on final day but now with Jadeja only, the answer is NO.

That's a bad drop by Bairstow, should have been caught easily. Rahane has been fortunate to survive against Moeen today.

How many more mistakes will they commit? Will they ever get the team combination right?

You can't expect a clueless setup to make sense all of a sudden. They learn from one mistake, improve but then do the other one.

WTC Final- They learned from their mistake and improved it in 1st Test.

2nd Test- They made another mistake by persisting with 4 pacers without looking at the pitch lol.
