India reach 125-4 at stumps on a rain-shortened Day 2 of the 1st Test against England

Oh dear. Rahane run out .its was Rahane fault .he could have run out before

Anderson went the entire 2018 tour and didn't get Kohli, a couple of dropped chances notwithstanding.

Today he gets him first ball.

IIRC Kohli had a first ball duck on the last innings of that tour as well.

So back to back for him.

Pujara and Rahane displaying their uselessness as usual.

I don't know why we should be so hard on Rohit after all. At least he makes a 30.

Thats Rohit limit.

Guaranteed 30 he gives atleast.

Our MO have been frauds for a long time now.

Let them get exposed.
I know but that is exposing Rohit even more.

As for our middle order, well it's crap for years now. That makes Rohit's task even more crucial. That's why it's even more imperative for him to kick on and get big scores like he does regularly at home.

Hope Sunny is watching it. Would love to see his excuses for Pujara and Rahane.

Pujara & Rahane should be dropped from test team permanently .just give chance to youngester .

Pujara and Rahane as usual do nothing.

Kohli has also been riding the team without much to show for. Pathetic performances.

Pujara and Rahane are severely diluting whatever batting legacy we have.

They should have been put on notice long ago.

Any one see the sikh guy in the background when Kohli got out, he was jumping up celebrating and dancing more than the english fans themselves.

Probably was a born brit and is supporting Eng, and rightly so....after all being true to the land of your upbringing is loyalty

If pant can counter attack on this pitch and these conditions and bowlers then he really would be seen as a world class talent.

We've thrown a golden chance to bat Eng out... hitman, VK and jinks have just gifted their wickets....Hope KL and Rishabh soldier on..

Well, I seriously wish that someone from opposition team mocks Kohli exactly the way he acts when India takes a wicket of opposing team. His reaction would be priceless.

many sikhs in the UK even though they were born in india will support england, always found that strange when compared to pakistanis / other Indians, even bangladeshis and sri lankans. Definately loyalty to your country of birth is a must.

Rohit is a temporary test bat.

For now he is doing ok considering our garbage lineup.

When better bats arrive, he will make way for them

I get your disappointment but we all know what we are getting with Rohit.

Our MO on the other hand will crumble out kf nowhere.

I think Pujara has been quite ineffective for too long now. They should replace him with Vihari or SKY for the next game.

SKY is not a test guy. India must play Hanuma Vihari at 3 from next match onwards.

Yes, i wish that too....much as i like VK , his on field behaviour at times is cringe worthy and not befitting several gen of indian cricketers who donned the blue cap and graced it with their dignity ...several like the amarnaths, the pataudis, umrigar, sunny, vishy, kapil, rahul, sachin, vvs, anil, srinath, bumrah etc...at times his behaviour is pathetic to say the least...

looks like someone from BCCI has made a call to get the players off :))

On a serious note lights are on, im not too far from the ground , to be honest its not as bad as it looks. intresting.

Drop whoever you want.

As long as Kohli is there, we will figure out a way to screw up. Lol.

Honestly, our entire MO should be fired.

Completely yuseless they are.

The big problem for India is not their openers, which generally tends to be the case in overseas tours but their middle order. Their 3, 4 and 5 are not contributing anything for sometime now and it kinda feels like the start of the decline for the ageing trio who are all on the wrong side of their 30s.

Since it's impossible to drop Kohli, you can't carry underperforming Pujara and Rahane both. Not sure who are the replacements though. I'm not convinced about Vihari as a test batsman yet. Ideally after this series, one of Rahul or Gill, or even both needs to move to the middle order after Pujara and Rahane while Mayank, Shaw and the reserve openers like Easwaran can fight it out for the opener spots.

I am honestly fascinated to see how this will end up.

I have no damn clue.

Looking at the swing available, at first I thought India would get 100 or 150 all out.

But yesterday we batted well.

England's bowling was mostly mediocre.

Today we are batting slowly.

It can either reap big dividends (Pujara, Williamson style) or we might be talking about how it was the wrong move in a couple of hours from now on.

This is one of those pitches where 50/0 can turn into 65/4.....resulting in 120 all out.

Or maybe we could crawl our way to match their score and then take a 50-75 run lead which might prove decisive.

Will be interesting to see for sure.

So scenario 1 happened, albeit a bit later.

Not bad.

Hope we hav a lower order resistance cos considering our tail, we are effectively 112-7.

Add some 10 runs to it maybe.

Rahul, Pant and Jaddu hav to atleast match England's score.

Sorry got the numbers mixed up.

125-7.

Add 10 runs.

135-7.

Good news is 3 of our best bats are batting.

Seems to be raining now in Trent Bridge. Covers on.

I am running out of patience with Pujara n co. Sad part is we don't have any replacements.
That's on our think tank who never ever tried to find their replacements. We could have groomed some bats over the last 3-4 years considering how regularly these 2 flattered to deceive but no we were happy with the status quo!

As long as Kohli is there, we will figure out a way to screw up. Lol.
And some were saying (not so long ago) that it's child play for Kohli to go past Tendulkar's 100 tons.

Considering he hasn't scored a single ton in 2+ years, looks unlikely that he'll get past 100+ tons in a hurry, if at all he does!

Less than 10 runs between Kohli, Pujara and Rahane. :)))
There was a time when our middle order was our strength! Guys like Dravid, Tendulkar and Ganguly used to bat at 3,4 & 5!

How badly we've regressed!

Pure cringe. And the frightening part is this sort of behaviour comes naturally to him!

Since 2020

Average
Pujara 25.28
Kohli 23.00
Rahane 27.00

50+ scores
Pujara 5/21 innings
Kohli 3/15 innings
Rahane 2/21 innings

Balls per dismissal
Pujara 84
Kohli 54
Rahane 59

This is what I'm talking about.

Time for a change of guard in the middle order.

Just watched the clip of Kohli getting out.

With all due respect to Jimmy, it was a nothing delivery and it was a vintage Kohli dismissal

Of course, credit to Jimmy for exploiting this weakness.

But it is incredible that a great batsman like Kohli is still getting out to the same delivery over and over again.

Even a 50 runs lead can be match-winning. Jadeja and Thakur can easily add 60 runs between them!

Day 2: Tea Break - India trail by 58 runs

ENG 183
IND 125/4 (46.1) CRR: 2.71

When Play about to resume ,rain will come .i don't think today anymore play possible .

Covers are off at Trent Bridge. An inspection took place, and another will take place in 10 minutes.

Just 58 run deficit.

If conditions stay the same...even a 50 run lead will put a lot of pressure in England.

100 run lead and we will canter to a win.

If England get a lead however minor it is, i guess its curtains for us barring some superhuman spell or batsmanship.

India got lucky with the bad light...Eng was running us through. Good timely break for India.

India has a deep batting lineup. Should get a 60-70 lead easily and that should be enough

Same “old stuff“ from our middle order ... just when you think India will get a good lead .. conditions change , Anderson comes back with a bang and Indian batting is shambles..

SKY is not a test guy. India must play Hanuma Vihari at 3 from next match onwards.

Vihari will be no better than Rahane or Pujara. The guy can block. But he takes the score board no where and he puts lots of pressure on the team by playing too timid.

India should try SKY. He can pile up runs very quick if he bats for 1 hour. I would take a 40(60) over 20(80) any day. It appears that Vihari has stayed at the crease for a long time. But the score board goes no where.

OK guys, this is a cricket match, relax.

Anyway, sad collapse by India and a batting line up that just refused to take responsibility. Kohli's poor run in tests continues, in every away inning since the start of the pandemic he has scored over 20 once....just once. This is a serious issue now. He hasn't scored an away century since Dec 2018.

Kohli has not been the same player since he hit 30. He still can show flashes of his glorious past, but he is a reduced version of himself.

I don't think Kohli will score more than 40 centuries in Tests. In ODI's also he has regressed. I don't rate Kohli the T20 batsman.

Play to restart at 4:15pm local, which is in 6 minutes.

The biggest reason why Virender Sehwag had such a HUGE impact in Test cricket was his ability to score quick runs in the most difficult batting conditions. He very rarely allowed bowlers to just keep bowling at him.

I always prefer attacking batsman and fast scoring batsmen over blockers. Attacking batsmen's impact will always be more than blockers. All they need is to play 40-50 deliveries and they will put 30 runs on the board irrespective of conditions.

Agree with this. SKY won't be any worse than Vihari who is as strokeless (and unless) as anyone can get.

India bat deep here , they just 50 odd runs away from Poms total with 6 wickets in hand , I do not know why Indian fans crying !!!

India will get a lead , and Poms batting is not good enough to get them a big total , so India would be chasing a total around 130 - 150 , which they will get

Very unlikely.
I guess he will end up with 80.

Yeah, he is as big an issue as Pujara & Rahane are.

Rain again.

Such games will only accelerate the demise of Test cricket.

Very disappointing to see WTC finals and this test marred with rain.

Kills all the excitement.

If India continues with this timid approach, there is no way they are winning this series. They are playing for survival it seems, lol.

England has all the luck in this test match. First, they won the toss and got to bat in good batting conditions (as compared to what we've got today) and now they're getting to bowl on a damp pitch and with overcast conditions.

England is the most pathetic place to play cricket and we've witnessed this too many times now to ignore this.

Yeah, looks increasingly tough for him to get to the 3 figures mark. However I do believe once he gets there, floodgates will open and he'll score many more.

Naah i dont think so
I think England is the only place where test cricket is worth watching due to swing seam conditions and rain is a nature thing cant do anything about that but rain and clouds are also the reason why we love watching test in england

Nah as SIF said rain can kill all the excitement .its really frustrated me .
