India reach 125-4 at stumps on a rain-shortened Day 2 of the 1st Test against England

If India continues with this timid approach, there is no way they are winning this series. They are playing for survival it seems, lol.
We're not good enough to bat aggressively! So there you go!

Pant must bat the way he bats. India are having a deficit of 58 runs only and if he continues looking for runs, the pressure will ease off quickly from India and it will increase for England.

Test cricket in England is all about mental game. It takes only one ball to get a wicket so no point getting bogged down.

Play will resume at 5:00pm (BST) if no further rain.

Naah i dont think so
I think England is the only place where test cricket is worth watching due to swing seam conditions and rain is a nature thing cant do anything about that but rain and clouds are also the reason why we love watching test in england

I agree test cricket in England with beautiful grounds, sporting fans and good commentary is something else. But not worth watching as England's only star player Ben Stokes isn't playing.

Just two balls possible this time before ☔ #ENGvIND

Jimmy Anderson still trying to bowl the over he started earlier....may need to wait until tomorrow

True. Sooner or later you are gonna nick one to keeper or miss inswinger. It’s better to play positive cricket.

Play resumed at 8.45 pm, one ball and rain comes.
Play resumed at 9.30 pm, two balls and rain comes.

There is nothing called timid approach or attacking approach.

Its all about context, situation and what you are comfortable doing.

I know the words process and intent have been oevrused by Indian captains....but those are important factors.

Sometimes how you defend will show everyone you mean business.

Everyone said that you can bat slowly in Eng but not in SA or Aus.

They gave examples pf Dravid in 1999.

Then Pujara came and stomped that theory to dust in 2018.

Now people are saying you can't bat slow in Eng.

Williamson came and proved people wrong.

Even pujara did well last time.

With that being said, the same Pujara is so bad NOW that Indian fans dont mind him getting out...due to the pressure he creates with his batting.

The Difference?

Its NOT about the strategy

Its about your ability to execute it properly.

Sehwag is celebrated NOT cos he is attacking.

He is celebrated cos he is attacking and he made it work.

Any hack who tries like Sehwag and fails will be mocked and laughed off.

Thats why Indian openers approach cant be called timid just cos they are slow.

They looked assured and made it work.

100 run openingpartnership here is PURE GOLD.

Had Dravid and tendulkar come at number 3 and 4...they probably would have taken us to 300, thus sealing the match once and for all.

......

Now India could play slow and take a good lead...or they could go bang bang and do it.

Both work and both has its own pitfalls.

Whats the ideal approach will be known based on conditions and how well Emg bowlers are bowling.

And most improtabtly...how condident Pant is feeling.

He sure has deserved the license to go for it.

I would prefer we play normally and chip away at the lead...and then Pant can cut loose.

If consitions are diabolical...then Pant attacking may not be a bad idea.

I am telling you .... It's BEAUTIFUL to watch the ball the way it moves in England. An absolute delight.
Nowhere else it happens so majestically as it happens in England.

And the sight of ball moving this nicely is worth being weighed in gold especially in the era when we are sick and tired of bowlers being smacked like astray dogs in the T20 format.

Stumps Day 2:

This test has the potential to be a great one if the weather holds up. The English boys are back in this one for sure thanks to the brilliant Jimmy Anderson. Keep India under 250 then England have a decent chance at glory, C'mon England!

England are right back into this

Jimmy smells a 6-7fer

Could very easily have been 5 down if not for englands near bottom of the pile catching. Lucky lucky lucky...

England bowler James Anderson told BBC Sport: "We're in the game. We saw in our innings and in theirs that there are times you can build partnerships. We also saw wickets can fall in clusters."

Former England captain Michael Vaughan on BBC Test Match Special: "From 97-0 to taking four wickets quite quickly, England have just given themselves a glimmer. You can see India losing a few more quick ones and that tail is not long.

"Joe Root will not sleep well tonight knowing Rishabh Pant is still there. If he stays there for another 20 minutes tomorrow, that lead will be gone. Who knows what will happen?"

India would have been 5 down if the catch was held.England slip fielding looking like Pakistan fielding.Pakistan lost many match Ed due to poor fielding. In some matches 4-5 catches were dropped by Pakistan.

India lost all momentum with those wickets. Time to regroup and get a handy lead
For england they need to get 2 more wickets and they will be in drivers seat.
All to look out for on 3rd day
