India tour of Australia (2020/21)

It's not like Kohli has won test matches in Australia before. He was good only in draws so it will not impact the series so much. And according to most Indian posters here India have so many Babar Azam so whoever will take Kohli's place will play well.

The guy averages 55 with the bat in Australia. Averaged 64 in the last two tours and has 6 hundreds. Got an important 80 odd at the MCG the game which we won. But yeah....his miss won't have an impact. :))

And no. India doesn't have anyone as good as Babar Azam the Test player (barring Kohli and maybe Pujara). I think that statement was for T20s where we have many similar accumulators with a below par power game.

Warner labu and Smith average over 70 in home condtions. You might want to check what some of the other blokes average in Australia mate. Bowling is far superior than 2000 era team.

These averages are buffed up because hardly any bowling attack apart from SA has challenged them consistently including England and India.

Depends on how Kohli performs in the first test. A win is a win for either team though.

We blame the schedule. Why is India's schedule so packed? Australia when they tour get to play solely test matches.

India have to play freaking T20 and odi before a tests series without any first class practice. That's just rubbish.

I know it's all about money but bcci should have utilised a gap between the short formats and the big tests series to give players some rest.

Anyway we shall see what happens. I have faith in this Indian team with or without Kohli. The schedule could have been a lot better but oh well.

That's why you can't compare past era teams to modern teams especially when it comes to India.

India have the toughest most rigourous schedule so fatigue is bound to take its toll

Don't really think there was a need for the ODIs.

But as I said , Kohli can't take blame if India lose the series in the last 3 games as he won't be there. Yes he has been poor tactically at times but I don't think he is solely to blame for Indias failures in ICC tournaments and in overseas tests.

Same could be said about the 2000 eraa
Issues who faced weaker attacks.

If anything bowling now is better than ever.

I think its different because back then you also had good bowling attacks from Pak, SL and to some extent Windies before they faltered.

All these teams bowling is lacking the quality from their 2000s counterparts.

Nope India just dont have as much time to prepare for tests unlike other teams. India's schedule is way more rigourous. Lot of fans from other countries may deny it but it's the truth. India if they prepare well by playing first class matches and solely tests series vs too sides like Aussies do vs India and the English then they have the ability to dismantle them away from home too. I am yet to see them prep by playing first class and exclude short format prior to an important test series under Kohli.

Even with all the prep, these top sides they still get their butts kicked in India.

None of those teams had the quality to perform in Australia. Maybe Pakistan but they have a dreadful record in Australia too.

Ind v Aus 2020: Australia to wear special indigenous jersey in T20I against India

After the Australian women's team, the men’s team will also wear an indigenous jersey during the upcoming T20I series against India. The specially-designed shirt is aimed at recognizing indigenous people, and encouraging their involvement in the sport.

The Aboriginal people of Australia are the descendants of the continent's original inhabitants, who lived in the area before Europeans arrived. The current population of indigenous people is estimated at around 800,000, which is around 3% of the total population of Australia.

This jersey is aimed as ode to those races. Unveiled on Wednesday, the jersey contains references to the history and traditions of the indigenous people, and was designed by two indigenous women, Aunty Fiona Clarke and Courtney Hagen.

There is a feeling among indigenous activists that cricket in Australia is not multi-faceted, and is a white man's game. Very rarely do players of Aboriginal descent make it to the highest level of Australian cricket.

In fact, only four indigenous men and two indigenous women have ever played cricket for Australia. Jason Gillespie, Dan Christian, D’Arcy Short and Ashleigh Gardner are some famous cricketers who are descendants of indigenous people.

The Australia women's side first wore an indigenous shirt in a match against England earlier this year. They have been proactive in addressing issues of race in the sport. Some teams and players in the Women’s Big Bash League have also acknowledged the Black Lives Matter movement by taking a knee before the matches.

“Last year as a squad we started to think about how we wanted to represent (Indigenous culture) and to participate in one of the first Indigenous rounds in cricket from an international perspective (in January) was really special," vice-captain Rachael Haynes told cricket.com.au.
"We want to continue those themes, but we also want to have more purpose around what we do. So it's not one-offs, we want to do things throughout the year and make it a learning experience,” she added.

Mitchell Starc is excited to wear Australia's indigenous jersey
Australian pace bowler Mitchell Starc revealed that he is excited to be part of the movement, and is looking forward to wearing the indigenous jersey. Starc said that he is happy that the men’s team is taking a cue from the women’s team in taking the movement forward.

Tour Of Australia: Indian Cricket Team To Wear New Jersey Inspired By The Seventies

The Indian cricket team will be wearing a darker shade of blue when they play the limited overs matches in Australia

ind.jpg

The Indian squad will fly directly from Dubai to Sydney on Wednesday. The India vs Australia series starts with a pair of ODIs in Sydney on November 27 and 29.

According to well-placed sources, the Indian national cricket team will wear a new jersey for the limited overs matches -- three ODIs and as many T20s.

The 'retro' theme shirt, inspired by the Seventies, will have a Navy Blue shade, a shift from the conventional sky blue colour that the team has been wearing in recent years.

The Navy Blue shirts will also sport the name of the BCCI's new kit sponsors -- MPL Sports.

MPL replaced Nike in a three-year deal worth Rs 120 crores plus revenue share.

Meanwhile, the Australian cricket team wear also wear a new-style jersey for the T20 series.

The Aussie players will wear specially-designed Indigenous shirts in the upcoming T20 series against India, a move aimed at recognising and encouraging the Indigenous Australians' role in the sport.

Australian men’s team to celebrate First Nations people with Indigenous strip
The Australian men’s team will celebrate our First Nations people this summer by wearing an Indigenous playing shirt for the entirety of the upcoming Dettol T20 international series against India.

In collaboration with apparel partner ASICS, Cricket Australia commissioned the design that continues the storytelling of the first ever Australian team to tour overseas.

In 1868, a group of Aboriginal cricketers made a three-month journey from Australia to the UK by sea, playing 47 matches at some of the most famous grounds in world cricket.

Kirrae Whurrong woman Aunty Fiona Clarke, great great-grand daughter of Grongarrong (Mosquito) one of the members of the team that played in England in 1868, designed the original Walkabout Wickets artwork that will feature on the front of the playing shirt.

The artwork represents past, present and future Aboriginal cricketers, with the large circle representing Lord’s and the smaller circles signify the team’s various meeting places during that tour.

The shirt was co-designed by Aunty Fiona and Courtney Hagen, Butchulla and Gubbi Gubbi woman and Cricket Australia’s Indigenous Engagement Specialist, with the latter speaking of the importance of the design.

“This is a great opportunity for cricket to continue sharing stories about the rich contribution First Nations people have made in the sport, starting with the 1868 Cricket Team as an incredible backbone of all-time sporting history to share and celebrate across the country and globe,” Hagen said.

“Through the design, we wanted to create something that paid tribute to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cricketers – past, present and future. We’ve incorporated artwork that symbolises strength, guidance and support through a connection to our ancestors, represented through the stars and the resilience of the 1868 team represented strongly.

“It was an honour to be able to co-design this shirt with Aunty Fiona.

“ASICS have contributed to the recognition of First Nations people for a long time and we couldn’t have developed the shirts without their support which we are very grateful for. The shirts will be available through ASICS and Cricket Australia’s merchandise store.”

The release of the shirt marks the relaunch of the Official Cricket Shop which will offer fans apparel and merchandise from all levels of the game, with the indigenous shirts also available at ASICS online store and with its preferred retailers.

On wearing the shirt, Australian fast-bowler Mitchell Starc said it was an honour to be able to represent Australian cricket’s history through the design.

“It’s fantastic. It’s really exciting to have a chance to play in an Indigenous guernsey for a series against India.

“Courtney is our Indigenous Engagement Specialist at Cricket Australia and Aunty Fiona is a descendant of one of the members of the first Australian Cricket team to go to England in 1868, and they collaborated to design this shirt and we’ve got the Walkabout Wickets artwork on the front there which we’ve seen on a number of shirts.

“The women’s team have worn a similar artwork to our one, the Test team have worn the logo on our collars a few times and the WBBL teams have all got it on their guernseys this year so it’s really exciting and to have the chance as a men’s team to wear our first Indigenous jersey.

Australian squad for the Vodafone Test Series against India; Australia A squad for Indian tour matches

The National Selection Panel (NSP) has announced the following 17-player Australian squad for the Vodafone Test Series against India, starting at the Adelaide Oval on December 17.

Selectors chose the expanded squad in considering the bio secure hubs that the team will be based in and the need to plan for replacing players at short notice if required.

Australia

Sean Abbott (NSW)
Joe Burns (QLD)
Pat Cummins (NSW) (vc)
Cameron Green (WA)
Josh Hazlewood (NSW)
Travis Head (SA)
Marnus Labuschagne (QLD)
Nathan Lyon (NSW)
Michael Neser (QLD)
Tim Paine (TAS) (c)
James Pattinson (VIC)
Will Pucovski (VIC)
Steve Smith (NSW)
Mitchell Starc (NSW)
Mitchell Swepson (QLD)
Matthew Wade (TAS)
David Warner (NSW)

Hohns said: “What we saw in the opening rounds of the Marsh Sheffield Shield were a number of players performing exceptionally well. It is such a positive sign for Australian cricket to have so many good young players stepping into contention for the Test and Australia A selection.

“Huge praise should go to the South Australian Cricket Association, the coaches, players and all those involved in delivering such a high quality block of Shield matches in challenging circumstances. The SACA went above and beyond to deliver great quality wickets and conditions for the players to thrive.

“Two of those many standout players were of course Cameron Green and Will Pucovski. Their undeniable form demanded selection and we are very pleased to have these young men in the squad for what will be a tremendous Test Series against an extremely formidable opponent.

“Cameron has already won selection in the white ball squad and continues that in joining the Test squad. He is a wonderful young talent who has great potential to become an all-rounder of substance over time. His batting alone has demanded his place in the squad.

“Will’s record breaking start to the summer has been exceptional. His ability to show such patience is something which stands him in good stead for Test cricket and he is in rare company with two double centuries to start the summer. We very much look forward to Will developing further on the international stage.

“Mitch Swepson is another who has excelled and is in fine form for Queensland. He gives the side a strong second spin option to Nathan Lyon and we feel he is ready and deserving of the opportunity.

“Sean Abbott has also been outstanding at the start of the summer and comes in to his first Test squad as a very strong fast bowling option. Add that to his recent batting form over the last 12 months he presents a very complete package in the squad.

In line with the white ball squad, Pat Cummins will be the sole vice-captain of the Test squad under Tim Paine.

“As was the case with the white ball side we have reverted to a traditional leadership model of captain and vice-captain now we have a settled and in-form group of experienced players,” Hohns said.

“Travis remains an important member of the senior leadership group and has been integral in the recent success of the side which is now ranked as the best Test team in the world. He has been a great support to Tim and is a very experienced leader.”

Selectors have also chosen a 19-player Australia A squad to play India A and India in tour matches at Drummoyne Oval and the Sydney Cricket Ground which includes nine players from the Test squad and Australian captain Tim Paine. Final sides and a captain will be chosen closer to each match.

Australia A

Sean Abbott (NSW)

Michael Neser (QLD)
Tim Paine (TAS)
James Pattinson (VIC)
Will Pucovski (VIC)
Mark Steketee (QLD)
Will Sutherland (VIC)

“We wanted to use these two games as preparation for the Test series for those players and as a reward to others for their performances in the first block of Shield matches, all of whom we believe could represent Australia in the future,” Hohns said.

After leaving the United Arab Emirates, the Indian cricket team has reached Australia to start their preparations for a much-anticipated series between the two nations. India will play three T20s, 3 ODIs and four Tests in their two month stay in Australia. Even though the first T20 will be played on November 27, the Indian squad led by skipper Virat Kohli reached early as they will now begin a 14-day quarantine-cum-training period on the outskirts of Sydney.

The Indian contingent along with Australian stars such as David Warner, Steve Smith, Pat Cummins arrived late in the afternoon and were whisked away to the Sydney Olympic Park.

With New South Wales government allowing the Indian team to train during the two-week quarantine period, their sessions will conducted at the Blacktown International Sports Park, which has also been turned into a bio-secure venue.

Captain Kohli, who will return home after the opening Day/Night test in Adelaide (from December 17-21) for the birth of his first child in early January, is set to get a special treatment during quarantine period, according a report in ‘Daily Telegraph’.

The Pullman Hotel where the Indian team would put up for next two weeks was also the base for rugby side New South Wales Blues, who have now shifted to another hotel.

According to ‘Telegraph’, the hotel authorities will provide the Indian captain a special penthouse suite where Australian rugby legend Brad Fittler normally puts up.

It is understood that a limited number of families are also being allowed by the NSW state government and the players’ families will need to adhere to the quarantine protocols.

The Australian stars returning from UAE after the IPL will however join their national team’s camp from November 22. They will train separately.

The white ball games starting from November 27 will be played in two cities of Sydney and Canberra.

The Indian cricketers will wear the first white ball retro jersey during the tour as Kohli and his player will sport navy blue jersey with multi-coloured shoulder stripes.

That was India’s 1992 World Cup jersey and the new kit sponsors MPL are set to bring the retro feel. Nike is no longer associated with the Indian team.

Teams like Australia and New Zealand have time and again experimented with their old designs especially the ones sported during the 1980s World Series Cricket days on Channel 9

No I think austrlia will be to strong If kohli was playing then I'd stil say austrlia 60-40 but now hes not playing I'd say 70-30 Australia

If India prep well they are more than capable of drawing or winning vs Australia.

India don't even bother playing first class matches like they used to in 2000 era before a tests series. Not to mention when India travels these days for the past 4 years it's been odi and T20 before a major test series.

Australia when they toured India played several first class matches before the actually test series. No short format games were included in the tour. That's how it is supposed to be.

It's bcci's fault for going ahead with such a busy schedule and players obviously will get tired. Money talks obviously.

I am hoping the boys get some practice games and some good rest. Should be a goods series.

What will be your playing XI in 2nd test?

Mayank
Gill
Pujara
Rahul
Rahane because he is the vice captain otherwise no.
Vihari
Pant
Jaddu. - pandya would have been better but.
Ishant
Legend Shami who is greater than shoaib
Doomrah.

Or Gill at 4 and Shaw to open.

India don't stand a chance without virat. He always scores in Australia.I would say India will lose all the 3 matches surely. With virat they might have won 1 or drawn 1 obviously they were never gonna win the series but they might have been little bit competitive but now 4-0 coming up

Rohit is not going anywhere, he will open with Mayank.

Irrespective of preparation, we will lose anyways.

Such a shame we'll miss out on Virat. He has been my favorite batsman after Sachin. And like Sachin, he is a champion against Australia.

India should go out all guns blazing. They must bat with an attacking mindset.

And when they bowl they must be aggressive against Warner/Smith from the get go. Don't let them settle. And don't drop catches :kohli

Their bowling has ability to take 20 wickets.

Hopefully, VK's substitute will be able to score consistent runs.

It's gonna be an epic test series.

No we would absolutely not lose if we prepare properly. It will be very close if we prepped well.

Toss makes a humongous difference.

Kohli wins the toss it's over. Oh wait no Kohli.
Rahane wins the toss it's over as well. Inshallah. Jai Shri ram. Praise the Lord.

Not sold on Hanuma Vihari, his style doesn't suit number 6 position and his bowling won't really help us, (hope he proves me wrong).
I"ll like to see kl rahul at no. 6 in the first match.

Problem will be wicket keeper. Pant is horribly out of touch. Saha is no use at 7 in Australia. Am not even sure will Pant play all test. When push comes to shove, with all probability KL Rahul may keep. High time India need to look beyond Saha and Pant for red ball cricket.
With Rohit being the captain,India will definitely win at least one toss and draw a match.

Gonna miss going to MCG this boxing day. Have never missed going there the 26 December since past 5 years i have been here.
But this pandemic has changed things for this year.
Cheering from home but It will be a tough test tour.. LOIs i think we will still win.

Legend shami lol

Shami is a legend. An ATG easily. He plays in the toughest era for bowlers and he plays all 3 formats. He averages 24.5 in odi. And 27 in tests. He is a phenomenal bowler. He is also better than shoai
And mind you Shoaib is one of my all time favourites so it actually pains me to say this. Shami is a beast when he is on form.

Lucky you. MCG is one of the best cricket ground in the world and I want to see a boxing day test live there once in my lifetime.

yeah its a massive structure.. Eden gardens in India is pretty close to the same feel..
But Boxing day is great summer day to watch cricket and drink lots of beer.
It was my dream also since childhood to watch a match in MCG..which came true fortunately. Hopefully you get to travel someday.

Legend shami lol

He'll be the first to complain about Kohli's absence, tosses, scheduling, balls, weather, pitches, umpiring, crowd sizes, kit design, the size of grass on the outfield et al, once India loses the series. Just a trifling troll.

Pant didn't look out of touch, just circumspect. And test is different from IPL. I am baffled at this call for dropping a player who scored a 100 each in his very first tour of England and Australia. Something legends like sehwag, dravid, laxman took an entire career to achieve or never achieved

I don't think Rohit will be the captain in Kohli's absence. Rahane will be the captain. Sad, because Rahane doesn't merit place in the team given his form.

Are you dense or are you just acting like one?
Tosses matter. Period
Home team wins majority of the time when they win the toss in Sena.
Overseas team has above 50% chance only when they win the toss.
Preparation matters. When was the last time India actually properly prepared for a test series? 2008. It was a close series as expected.
India's schedule is not more busy than other teams? Ofcourse it is.

India also plays odi and T20 before a test series. Are you kidding me?
Australia in 2017 played several first class matches and only played a test series right after. no short formats were included.

Go back to wherever you belong and squat in your basement.

I go by present form. The Pant you were talking was from 2 years ago with 20 lbs lesser. Forget IPL, when was his last performance. In the mean time he was dropped from T20s and one days. I am yet to see a player who has rich form going in one format and a sitting duck in other formats. Am talking of player who play all 3 formats.

Am hearing Rahane will remain vice captain and Rohit becomes captain. The first test will be very crucial for Rahane and that decides he being cpt or vc.

You'd think Ishaan will be eyeing a big first class season.
KS Bharat is with the Indian team for few series. I want to see him first before going Samson/ Ishan route. Knowing Indian selection, I won’t be surprised if Partiv Patel makes a come back. Such are those clown selectors.

Last time India visited Aus, I was very confident of a fighting show and thought we had a chance for a series victory - such were the vibes & determination that was coming out of the Indian camp before the tour.

This time, everything is remarkably subdued and deep down, our team probably realises that they are going to get thrashed. I hope we don’t lose badly and at least make the game’s competitive.

I'd be surprised if that happens. Pleasantly surprised, ofcourse :)

They wont pick him unless Pant fails.

Ofcourse they can beat Australia in Australia if they prepped well

Hell just cut out the bullsh*t short fromats for next year and play only the test series like Australia does when they tour India.
I guarantee India can win provided they also play some tour games.

Indians in 2000 era played shorter formats in different seasons and when they toured away they specifically toured to play just the test series. It's different now. They have to integrate all 3 formats and players get fatigued.

We will compete if our 3 pacers are fit and fine.
Batting koi na koi sambhal lega. Mayank, rahul, gill, rahane, pujara, pant they can take us to 300+.

The Australian men’s cricket team will follow in the footsteps of the women’s team this summer after players came to an agreement to stage a barefoot protest before the opening One Day International of the series against India.

The series kicks off with an ODI in Sydney on November 27 — where the Aussie team will reportedly hold a pre-match barefoot circle in a public stand against racism.

The barefoot circle is designed to acknowledge First Nations people and show the team’s support for the Black Lives Matter movement.

The Australian’s Peter Lalor first reported the Aussie cricket team’s dressing room came to an agreement to make a public show of support, led by senior figures in the Australian limited overs squad, including Aaron Finch and Pat Cummins.

The report outlines rivals India will also be invited to participate in the public display.

Cricket Australia has previously said in a diversity and inclusion statement that the barefoot circle is designed to allow players and teams “to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land”.

It comes after the Aussie team and coach Justin Langer have come under fire in recent months for the team’s failure to take a public stand on the issue during September’s series against England.

Finch said during the series it was more important for education than protest. West Indies cricket legend Michael Holding then fired back at the statement.

The champion fast bowler said the side had come up with a “lame” excuse to justify why it wouldn’t take a knee as it resumed playing against England in the UK.

Australia coach Langer admitted his side could have given more thought to taking a knee following Holding’s criticism.

England and West Indies adopted the gesture at the start of each of their three Tests in July to show their support for the campaign against racial injustice.

The practice was repeated during England’s one-day matches against Ireland but not in subsequent series against Pakistan and Australia.

Earlier this month Aussie netball great Liz Ellis spoke out about the Aussie team’s need to “educate themselves”.

“It‘s probably a decision for the players to be heavily involved in because they’re the ones who will have to own the decision if they decide to take a knee,” Ellis told Channel 9.

“You either make the decision to take a knee or you don‘t. You don‘t need to rely on an Indigenous person to educate you. Go and educate yourself.

“It‘s a players’ issue. The board can’t tell players to take a knee or not take a knee.”

The team is finally correcting those missed opportunities this summer, having also unveiled the Indigenous designed shirt that will be worn for the Twenty20 series.

The design features the Walkabout Wickets artwork which has been imprinted on the collar of previous national team kits, including at the 2019 Ashes series in England.

The national women’s team wore an Indigenous kit during one of their short-format fixtures against England last year, and their male counterparts have followed suit.

The Aussies are also following the women’s team with the announcement of their barefoot protest after the women’s team staged a barefoot protest before its series with New Zealand.

Now the Aussie men’s team will start its summer against India with a barefoot recognition of Indigenous culture to pay respects to country and the traditional owners.

I know that those of you outside Australia and New Zealand aren't familiar with the decisive action needed to contain a pandemic, but today's community outbreak in Adelaide has become a rapidly developing story here in Australia, and there is virtually zero chance now that the First Test at Adelaide will take place.

The basic chain of events when we get community transmission in a single state in Australia is as follows:

Step 1 - other states close their borders to people who have been there in the last 14 days.
Step 2 - any people given permission to travel from the affected state have to undertake 14 days of isolation and quarantine at their next destination.
Step 3 - borders are not reopened until the affected state has gone two full incubation periods (2 x 14 days = 28 days) without a further case of community transmission.

Today is Day 1 of the Adelaide outbreak, and even if it miraculously ended immediately - which it won't - 28 days takes us through to 14 December.

So it's pretty obvious that the Adelaide Test ain't going to happen.

The current schedule has never been terribly feasible.

Australia has 3 red (Labor) states which drastically seek to suppress the virus to the point of extinction - corresponding to the Test venues of Perth, Melbourne and Brisbane. All 3 states are lukewarm about any sportsmen travelling between states any more than is necessary.

There are also 2 blue (Liberal) states which take greater risks with the virus in the name of economic activity - these states have the venues at Adelaide and Sydney.

The Adelaide outbreak is going to get a fair bit bigger before they can bring it under control, and they will probably require a city-wide lockdown to end the spread.

Realistically, Cricket Australia should have emulated the ECB and restricted the international summer to two venues. I would have held all the Tests and white ball matches in and around Sydney.

As said in other thread. Australian domestic sports have granted waivers to literally hundreds of sports players to cross borders, despite "hotspots".

The REASON clubs/teams go into a self contained bubble is to insulate themselves against these risks and allow the mukti million dollar sports to carry on, because they can be proven to have taken extraordinary precautions.

India will likely get similar waivers. That is why they are in a bubble.

Junaids is the same panic merchant who told us CA (along with every other sport in Australia, if you check the thread) would be broke by July, with no income & no bank would ever give them a loan because of a few months COVID shutdown.

Bear that in mind.

The Queensland government almost fell because they allowed Victorian AFL teams permission to travel one-way into Queensland.

The Australian public has made it very clear that they do not accept sports teams having special permission to go back and forth across different states during a pandemic.

The current schedule made some sense when there was no community transmission nationwide. But it’s just as unacceptable to the public - and the medical experts - for the Aussie team to crisscross states during a pandemic as it is for the Indians to.

Almost fell... By which you mean the 52:34 resounding win with a swing of 4.2 TOWARD the ruling party...

The Australian public LOVED the rugby league season & has rewarded Qld premiers decisions with a FAR GREATER win than 2017. If you're going to try & play Aussie politics just try to get it even close to correct.

No.

Labor would have won by a landslide like Ardern in NZ. But a lot of voters resented the AFL being hosted in Queensland, and disapproved of special treatment for sportsmen.

I agree with Junaids here. They could have just played the entire series in one or two venues (in and around Sydney). As the ground audience will be sparse anyway, it doesn't matter where the matches were played.

If the outbreak persists, maybe they could scrap the LOIs and just carry on with the tests.

NhA that's not fair to Australia then.
India would get used to playing in Sydney and would acclimate easier. It's not the same as playing in different cities like Perth and Melbourne etc as they have a more conventional bouncy pitch.

So in other words, labour expanded their majority and were nowhere near "amost fell". No further questions.

Cricket Australia confirms the following actions in light of state border closures following South Australia’s COVID-19 outbreak:

CA continues to monitor the situation in South Australia but remains committed to hosting the first Vodafone Test against India at the Adelaide Oval.

Players and staff from Western Australia, Tasmania and Queensland who are part of the Australian men’s Dettol One-Day International and Dettol Twenty20 International squads are traveling to Sydney today to commence their preparation for both series.

This decision was made after players returning from the Marsh Sheffield Shield hub in South Australia after the last round were subject to changes in border conditions by the aforementioned state governments.

The Adelaide Strikers and South Australia-based players from other KFC BBL squads are traveling to a training base in Coffs Harbour today.

This decision was taken after the Tasmanian government announced tighter border restrictions with South Australia.

The KFC Big Bash League is due to start in Hobart on Thursday, December 10. CA can confirm none of the players in Adelaide for the Marsh Sheffield Shield visited the “hot spots” identified by SA Health. CA has nonetheless instructed all players to undergo COVID-19 tests, with all results received thus far returning negative.

Nick Hockley, Cricket Australia’s Interim CEO, said today’s actions were taken to ensure the summer schedule would not be compromised by recently announced border restrictions.

“CA has taken a pro-active approach and mobilised a number of people across the country over the past 24 hours to shore up our men’s domestic and international schedules.

“I would like to thank the players and staff for their understanding regarding the changes to their travel schedules and for their commitment to ensuring the summer of cricket is a huge success.

“I would also like to thank the various leadership groups across Australian cricket for coming together over the past 48 hours and taking quick, decisive action – made possible by thorough, cross-department contingency planning.

“CA will continue to monitor the situation in South Australia and the resulting border restrictions around the country.

“As ever, we will remain agile in addressing the challenges presented by the pandemic and remain more confident than ever of hosting a safe and successful summer across all formats.”

McGrath believes lack of match time and the feel for batting long could "have a big impact" on Pujara and predicted that he might have to work harder for his runs than he did in 2018-19. Pujara is one of two players from the current Test squad to have not played any competitive cricket for over 10 months thanks to the Covid-19 pandemic. Pujara last featured in the Ranji Trophy final in March and has since had to rely on training sessions with his state team Saurashtra back home in Rajkot. In November, he began training in Dubai with Hanuma Vihari, the other Test specialist, even as the rest of the squad were involved in the final stages of IPL 2020.

All Australian domestic cricketers in Adelaide were evacuated to other states today.

Cricket Australia (CA) have swiftly moved players and staff from Western Australia, Tasmania and Queensland, who are part of the Australian men's ODI and T20I squads, to Sydney today (November 17) after the three states closed its borders with South Australia (SA) following a spike in COVID-19 cases in the state.

Western Australian fast bowler Andrew Tye has been brought into the squad for the Dettol ODI Series and Dettol T20I Series against India, in place of Kane Richardson.

Richardson has withdrawn from the squad to be with his wife and their newborn son. He informed selectors of his decision yesterday.

“It was a difficult decision for Kane to make but one which has the complete support of the selectors and the entire playing squad,” national selector Trevor Hohns said.

“Kane wanted to remain in Adelaide with Nyki and their newborn son. We will always support our players and their families; even more so given the challenging environment we are in.

“We will miss what he brings to the team but completely understand and support his decision.”

Tye was part of Australia’s tour of the UK this year for his closing skills with the ball, in what is considered a like for like replacement for Richardson.

“AJ is incredibly skilled in both forms of the short game. He impressed in the UK with his high work ethic and his positive energy around the squad,” Hohns said. “He is a great player to be able to call on.”

With the South Australian outbreak leading to some Marsh Sheffield Shield players flying into New South Wales yesterday, West Australian batsmen D’Arcy Short and Josh Philippe will train with the squad from next week.

As the situation developed, Short flew east with fellow West Australian Cameron Green as a precaution. Short will move on to join his Hobart Hurricanes and Philippe the Sydney Sixers for the start of the KFC Big Bash League. Phillipe is currently in hotel quarantine in Sydney following his return from the Indian Premier League.

The South Australian government has just announced an initial 6 day lockdown, with all sport banned and people prohibited from leaving their house except for one (1) member of each household allowed to go out to collect groceries.

The Adelaide Test is now under extreme threat. The last lockdown in Australia - Melbourne - eventually lasted 111 days.

More about the South Australian lockdown:

1. Total ban on anyone staying in a hotel unless they are in government-patrolled quarantine at a designated medi-hotel.
2. No person allowed to be anywhere outside their home without wearing a mask at all times.
3. Food only available from shops or in supervised quarantine medi-hotels. All restaurants closed, including for takeaway.
4. No sport or exercise permitted, no exemptions for professional sport, either for training or for matches.
5. Municipal trains and buses to remain open for essential travel, but use of private (e.g. team) buses and taxis and ride-shares prohibited.

Comments from the South Australian Chief Health Officer:

"The link between cases cemented my fears that this virus is reading very, very rapidly. You have a short incubation period and you have three days as those generations move on,"

"So the virus, unfortunately, doesn't understand our public holidays or our religious festivals and it doesn't understand that we have got Christmas coming up,"

"Let's just focus on the here and now, what we all need to do in the next 24 hours to stay calm and patient and work out how we're going to be safe and support other people the next six days."

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………...

Although the current lockdown is initially for 6 days, they are clearly planning for Christmas (25 December).
The First Test is scheduled for Adelaide from 17-21 December.

5 cases last daily report.

The 6 day duration of the announced lockdown indicates authorities still see this as likely to be be contained. If reported cases stay low during these 6 days, expect a moderate loosening of restrictions fora 2 week period to follow the lockdown.

Test will go ahead- crowd may be very reduced.

Yeah at this point I still expect the first test to remain in Adelaide, although it may be with a reduced crowd as the poster above mentioned. This 6 day lockdown is even more strict than Melbourne's though. No Australian state so far had an outright prohibition of outdoor exercise.

That's how Australia, New Zealand, China and Taiwan have controlled this virus. When you get a tiny outbreak you squash it completely, like using a sledgehammer to kill a fly.

There certainly won't be a crowd, but it's difficult to see how South Australia will be open in time for this Test.

India are due to travel from Sydney to Adelaide on 13 December, with the Test starting on 17 December. I would have thought that the prudent approach would be to make Adelaide the 4th Test, from 15-19 January, and to move the First Test to be an additional Sydney Test.

Sydney works in favour of the Indians.. but then there will be question marks on Indian victory or draw.

Andrew Tye is an average bowler. Not expecting him to play much.
