India v Australia | 2nd Test-Day 4 |19/10/08 | Mohali

Wow you guys are really selling yourselves short. Mental toughness, fighting till the last breath and refusing to lose doesn't go away overnight you know?

I predict a draw.

I have been watching Australia play cricket for a long time Sheikh and one thing we cannot do is bat against quality spin on a 4th and 5th day wicket.
Not these batsmen anyway. Hope they prove me wrong though.

Amusingly Cameron White now has the same average v India as Shane Warne :)) 47 rpw

This is seriously pathetic, we crawl to 260 and they are 2/280 going at better than 4 an over.

Dhoni, if u can clear the fence, u will get six runs for it. :pissed: go for it mate. don waste time in damm singles. we are runing out of time.

Fair enough, though pretty much any team would struggle against quality spin on the 4th and 5th days. However, I don't think this is a quality spin attack you guys are up against. Harbajhan is overrated (he's average at best) and this Mishra dude is playing his first test.

Now...if you guys were up against Murali and Mendis in Sri Lanka...well that's another story.

S. I. X.

Dhoni unleashes one of his neanderthal specials..

500+ Lead now. an hour more?

OK to put it another way, we struggle more than most teams. For one not often in that position - in domestic cricket they rarely play for a draw (usually sledge the other team in the media if they bat for a draw) and you have now seen the quality of spinners we have in domestic cricket (because we have picked all the ones who are barely state level for the Aus team) that our batsmen play against.

And all that happens to spinners at Aus domestic level is the batsman run down the pitch and smash them out of the attack, very rarely are they batting against spin to save a game or protect their wickets. And very few of our wickets spin anyway.

So Harby and Mishra may not be quality in the world class sense, but they are far better than our domestic circuit guys and I have no faith that we can hold out against them for 4 sessions. I can hope, sure :D

I dont get how a lead of over 500 against AUSTRALIA is still not enough to declare....

He should have declared at 400 and really tested Australia's mettle but, we have to have a showboating, confident, arrogant captain who wants to stamp himself all over Australia...

Dhoni should declare now. He has more then enough runs on the board. He needs time to bowl the Aussies out.

Er.. what about unsure?

India have a lead of over 500 runs.....when was the last time 500 runs were chased in a meaningful test match on 4th/5th day pitches???

Messages have come down to the center, so hopefully the declaration is around the corner. maybe a couple of overs of fancy hitting.

Should have come 10 minutes ago. In total India will lose at least half an hour now. That could be the difference.

I see that point, but I guess they are a bit unclear on the risk element involved. maybe you are right, they want to trample australia...

selfish indians!!!......get some balls captain..

maybe he is going for his hundred!!

Finally better sense prevailed. Declared with a 515 run lead. Looks like they have wasted about half an hour or so.

An important one hour of play coming up..

Why would you wait for drinks, play an over taking singles and then declare?

Strange but oh well, won't matter in the scheme of things I imagine.

Well that was a little pointless; wasting 10 minutes on a water break and then adding 6 runs.

But still, I guess they want to put it beyond reach with 515 off 135 at 3.81 rpo.

My prediction was 500 off 140 at 3.57 rpo, so close enough I guess.

Meanwhile the curator goes into the secret underground control room and changes the pitch control knob setting from "belter" to "minefield"...

I might be wrong but Aussies are going after the target big times.

May be we are in for a new World Record :P

I'm not sure what they're doing. Batting out 4 and half sessions on this pitch isnt out of the realms of possibility, but chasing 515 is.

Now Katich thinks he's Gilchrist. This is insanity.

All I can come up with, he is an Australian.

I am not sure whats gonna happen, but whatever will happen, will be fun for sure.

Good positive start by the aussies, no point just grinding away, this is what any team in OZ's shoes should do...

Australia are going at guns blazing! 38-0 in 6 overs, 478 runs still required!

I have a question, where you disappear when India is down and out?

No he blames the umpires :D

Actually Romali's first post when India were 87 all out to South Africa was classic.

No, he ain't that sort of a guy. He'll be back soon I believe. The description you put perfectly fits one 'saffer'.

And there goes Haydunce

So Cricindia is saying that it pitched outside the line of off stump. Hmmmph.

7.2 Harbhajan Singh to Hayden, OUT, the bowling change works! Bowls round the wicket, pitches just outside the line of the off stump, Hayden commits very early to the sweep and it leads to his undoing as the ball strikes the bottom of his pad, they all go up in appeal, Asad Rauf thinks about it before raising the finger, he reckoned it would have hit the offstump, Hawkeye shows the ball striking the stumps
ML Hayden lbw b Harbhajan Singh 29 (20b 4x4 0x6) SR: 145.00

Good Enopugh for cricinfo and Indian Fans I guess, Rauf going to get a big pay check

Guess Rauf gets to umpire Indian games for a while longer then, Ganguly now this.

So what if it pitched outside the off stump?

What matters is whether it hit the batsman in line with the stumps.
