India vs England | 1st Test | Ahmedabad | Day 1

@James - Any idea why no sign of Michael Holding in the commentary team of SKY so far? (is he not available for this series?)

If it is flat, then England shouldn't get out twice on the pitch. Both sides play on same pitch

Have you seen the way the pitch started breaking up in the first five overs? It'll be a dustbowl by day 3 or day 4 at the most. Batting first is a massive advantage.

Broadcasting is all nobbed up for this series, no idea what's going on. The radio coverage is coming from some skanky box where the crowd noise obscures the commentary, and most of the streams have foreign language commentary.

Our best hope is to bowl India out in four sessions, score as many runs as possible and then get the spinners on. A long way to go though. The same is more likely to happen to us.

But if we can avoid defeat in this first game, the series opens up a bit.

^^ I am totally relying on sky telecast rather than Star's for this series. So far good but miss the voice of Holding, though.

Can you access star sports (not star cricket) stream?

India should score like 600 in 5 sessions , England will definitely succumb to the scoreboard pressure and spin bowling.

They 're atleast getting a hold on the Indian scoring rate. Get Sehwag out and India will struggle to double this score by stumps.

Yep. There is some hint of reverse from Anderson. Bumble noticed it and said the same.

Sehwag looks like batting on a different pitch. Unless Sehwag scores big, hard to see India scoring 450+ here.

Its not as bad as it looks for England
Its worse
:))

I disagree. Typical hyperbole when a subcontinent team is involved. Interesting test match, a couple of wickets tips the balance considerably at any point.

James you do remember England are utterly useless v any sort of spin right?

No Ajmal, no doosra, no world-class spinner, no DRS. Will be better this time. Ojha is the biggest threat.

how are the english commies?
what are they saying??

im stuck with sidhu and rameez in urdu

Bumble and Botham reckons there is some reverse swing in offer (albeit in small amount) for Anderson. May be Bresnan to comeback into the attack?

Bresnan on. Cook's clearly trying to push the reverse swing narrative.

I think England fans are underestimating ashwin , he is a world class spinner with good variations. He is the second cloase after ajmal and may overtake him soon.

Not at all. But I think Ohja will have greater success against us in Indian conditions. Unless the English players lose concentration then the Indian seamers won't worry them too much, so the spinners need to step up to the plate and win this series for India.

what on earth! Is this joke or, the ball is not bouncing at all. England, welcome to India

English commentators just keep saying pitch is flat after every minute. We got the point guys :D

Swann's bowled very well. The rest haven't though.

Was it genuinely out of his reach or just a lazy attempt? Beats are coming his way if the latter.

Nope, Anderson misread that catch. He could have done a better job catching it (Bresnan not very happy with that effort by Anderson)

Slow to react, and charged in an a catch that was coming right to him.

Pity. It's hard enough to take 20 wickets in India without giving yourself 25 to take.

Bresnan isn't the same bowler since his injury a while ago. Well down on pace.

Wonderful bowling from Swann so far on a day 1 pitch. Would have been good to have him and Panesar bowling together.

England bowlers averaging 135 kph on the first day of the first Test. If Finn doesn't play next match these trundlers will average 125 kph in the next matches.

A very well made 100 from Viru with a typical boundary scored to reach the century

As expected in his own backyard Sehwag again looks like a monster

These english commentators are cry babies. really irritating to listen to them. now they are saying you dont need any technics to score runs in India. why have they not won in the last 30 yrs if it is so easy to score runs?

Sehwag looks a class apart on such a pitch. England need an equal big one from one of their gun players to avoid defeat.

Really poor decision to play Bresnan instead of Panesar. Our batting is long enough without Bresnan.

Monty looks manfully bearded and deeply unimpressed in the dugout lol.

There is very little to suggest that the likes of Cook and Trott won't score big as well. A daddy hundred by one of the big 4 of England and it'll be a draw. However the scoreboard pressure might get them because 600 is on.

SCJ Broad's figures aren't bad. Maybe he's worth another go.

I can't post my thoughts on England's team selection without falling foul of the moderators, so I'm not even going to comment except to say that yet again local conditions haven't been taken into account.

On the plus side this must be the biggest crowd for a Test in Ahmedabad for many years!

The worst and most annoying commentator, Laxman Sivaramakrishnan, is on air.

Muted the tv.

It is funny how Sehwag gets uncomfortable when Broad comes on. He isn't great handling pace. Finn has been badly missed.

Whoever selected this team is gonna get mortalled in the media lol. Already in full flow on social networking.

100th time commentators have talked about pitch. they talk about pitch more than the bowling or batting. amazing.

Sky commentary team is a bunch of cry babies...all they have to say about is : Pitch is flat...Pitch is flat...yaada yaada yaada...

For the first time in a long while I'm indifferent in an India game; don't really care who wins because I despise England just as much at the moment

Rahul Dravid, BBC Test Match Special

"Monty Panesar has a good record in India, even if he doesn't take wickets he can keep the run-rate down. I think that would at least allow them to keep the pressure on, as there's a lot resting on Graeme Swann. It has turned a little bit, which will encourage the Indian spinners."

Pujara is playing a gem of an innings. To outscore Sehwag in a partnership is a huge achievement!

Tough lessons for Cook today. Taking wickets in India is rock hard after all, particularly when you select your mates over the best players for the conditions!

Lol at indian dans that are hurt by this patnership as the more it continues the less chances Tendulkar has to make a hundred!

Swann not bowling after lunch. Not sure if his fitness is also a worry and hence England are underbowling him right now.

Not to forget two crucial misses by the fielders (One by WK off Sehwag and other one by Jimmy anderson off Pujara)

Oh dear, now Non-ty Fatassar is on! This should make grim viewing.....
