India vs England | 1st Test | Ahmedabad | Day 1

Indias day and i guess they will be looking to get up to 500+ by Tea and then see if they can make inroads into englands batting.

Scoreboard pressure, plus men round the bat could really help the Indian spinners in this game.

It's England- they are the saints..... can never be tempted by dosh.......

Probably something the 3rd world hotel gave for brekkie....

England the saints?

It's hilarious enough when people like Stuart Broad are invited to conferences to give a speech on fairplay.

Even today, Trott claimed Kohli's catch when he knew he had clearly grassed it. So the arguement that we should take the fielder's word on such occasions goes straight into the trash.

Sehwag like players can fool you into thinking that there are a lot of runs in the pitch, especially in India. There is no bounce here some balls are staying bit too low, decent turn and the pitch is deteriorating already. England are in a big trouble here IMO, escaping a defeat would be job well done.

India well in front and would try to ensure they wont have to bat again here.

Trotty's shenanigans were bewildering and pitiable rather than disgusting. How did he expect to con the dozen odd cameras on the ground I don't know.

England are paying for their mistakes, several dropped catches plus we were always going to need a second front line spinner in India..

england need spinners thats the trap of india the fast bowlers have nothing to offer and india plays spin good thats the trap i wont be surprised if india wins this although alot would depend on how england comes back they have to stop india at 400

He is backkkkkkkkkkkkkk on my DP. His name is CHE PUJARA*

I guess lack of 2nd spinner hurt England more, but then again if Sehwag was dismissed early then who knows this Indian team might have struggled to score 320.

Pacers didn't have speed and they sprayed the ball. They could have done lot better. This wasn't wicket taking pitch for them, but it was not score there either. They just made the day for India.

Bresnan shouldn't have been picked. He will pick up a couple of tailender wickets tomorrow inflating his figures mandated everybody will be like not bad at all.

Anyways are ICC going to look into England's performance today? 3 odd dropped catches, missed stumpings...

Messers Anderson & Broad bowling slower than Parveen Kumar- looks all very dodgy to me

IMO England players came to the conclusion they aint gonna win here, so might as well earn some dosh.....

I will be getting my random Indian fella to put in some facebook posts now :D

Must say there was good last session for England.

200 more runs from India before tea, then this test is set! I can't wait to see England batting last on this pitch.

Anderson is bread and butter on sub-continental pitches.

stop giving statement without much meaning to it. He was excellent, these are flat tracks

No bounce, no swing and no pace on the pitch, there was nothing for fast bowler to extract.

It was because of of excellent on line and length bowling and bit of reverse swing in the spell, where he was able to build pressure

It was due to him, swann was successfull, he was blocking off runs at end, so swann could attack from the other.

Take your life out of PPCL, maybe you could understand cricket.

^Swann is very refreshing to watch , hope he sticks around for a few more years.Great energy and spirit from him throughout the day.

Swann is class. The England team in this form, however, is not.

Tentatively setting the alarm for another depressing day tomorrow.

Pacers need to chip in with few wickets tomorrow. How those wickets will come - no idea. But they will have to do it. It would be disaster for England if Swann had to do everything. As the series progresses, Swann might become less effective if other bowlers fail to support him.

England's plan should to dismiss India below 450 tomorrow and then try to bat for long period of time. This is not an easy pitch to score runs, but wicket taking won't be easy either.

Yes, Swann's grown on me by his performance on day 1. Let's see if he can keep it up tomorrow!

Pujara was undismissable today. Simply superb. Lad has technique to score centuries on tough pitches.

Actually he lobbed one up to Anderson who ran in too far from mid on to see the ball fly just over his head.

But other than that, rock solid. I was impressed with how he handled all the good balls swan had to offer whilst making the most of the slightly short and wide ones.

I meant no one troubled him. He will make some mistakes in a long innings. But no bowler came close to dismissing him today.

So suddenly after one day Swann has become world class class number 1 spinner from a garbage spinner. Amazing!

Well he was never a garbage spinner. That was just ignorance.

Swann has always been world class. England are going to depend on him big time this series.

Swan was class today, no other bowler looked threatening to take wickets. He troubled all batsmen especially in form Kohli.

There is a realistic chance that he might take 7 wickets or more in this innings.

That is 4 out of 17 overs. Anderson was poor for 12 overs including the final over, you call that excellent?
I respect Jimmy but his defenders are really over the top.

He tried his best on a very very flat track for seamer....

Just look at styen on first match against sa,not everthing is prefect on flat tracks

Remember the two great w struggling in 1999 in India.even great bowlers are crucified on Indian pitiches,so who is Anderson.

That ball to Kohli was class. Swann is a genius, especially considering he plays without a doosra. Used to think of him as useless to the right handers but he's bowled superbly to them. Kohli was under immense pressure whilst facing Swann.

Swann is finally finding form again.

A day with unexpected results. Indian openers firing, a touring spinner having a ball. Hopefully Yuvraj and Pujara carry India past 500 tomorrow and seal this match.

Will swann pull a Laker ?

Given the fact that there's not much chance of a wicket coming at the other end, he might never get a better chance!

I thought it was a decent fightback by England in the last 2 sessions, but they will need early wickets in the morning to really get back into contention. Even over the course of the first day, the character of the pitch changed from being totally flat to offering a fair amount of turn.

It may have been a 450 pitch when India came out to bat, but is likely to be very far from that by the time England get to bat on it. The nature of the pitch together with England's incomprehensible selection policy mean that I'm not optimistic about the outcome.

That's the point. Ajmal is not half effective with his off spinners.

I have serious reservations with how he will match up against teams like India in India.

I don't think he will be effective.

I will always rate clean spinners much more than these so called mysterious arm benders.

That is why, Warne >>>>> Murali.

lol

people talk like Monty is second coming of Murali :)))

Swann isn't the second coming of Murali yet he got all 4 wickets. It's a pitch that is doing far more for the spinners than the quicks yet we played 3 quicks and 1 frontline spinner..

Bresnan shouldn't have been picked. He will pick up a couple of tailender wickets tomorrow inflating his figures mandated everybody will be like not bad at all.

To be fair to him he should have had the wicket of Pujara but Anderson completely misjudged the flight of the ball...

The test for Ajmal will start in SA.The ball wont turn on those wickets and because he isnt a big turner of the ball nor he has much flight variations he will struggle with his offie. His doosra will hence become less effective. Also Smith Kallis ABDV and Amla are good players of spin.Ajmal has had one or two good test match outside asia so this is his first real test.

Yup, gotta agree with most people's comments. Swann's a classy traditional spinner. Credit to him for being so successful without the shoddy doosra, teesra and chautha.

India making the pitch look dozy, but never fear, game's on when England show up on a minefield for their batting innings.

We sure do know how to lose on flat tracks.

Ajmal better do well in SAF. Even Harbhajan did well on his last tour there. Harbhajan's last great performance came at Cape Town. a 7-Fer. though he couldn't stop a stonewalling Kallis.

:msdSo the Home track Bully Phaaaaaaaaast bowlers couldn't get a single wicket on Day-1 of a test series........

Looks like an innings defeat is on the cards for Eng lol. Sehwag what a knock. Pure entertainer.
