Only if you could follow your username. Hasan Ali and Sahan smacking few six of hapless Maxi is diff thing than hitting to Pandya (5th bowler)

what do u mean.. Hafeez cannot hit pandya.. I think Hafeez is the only batsman in the line up who can hit hard at will regardless of pace and spin...cant compare him with a nothing batsman like asif ali..

If played you will see him get hammered..Aus has a pace loving batsmen, whereas India are spin loving batsmen...

Must not decide the based on the previous match, but should be based on the opposition...
Both imad and shadab will be massacred tomorrow

I would still go in with 4 pacers and bring in Hasnain for his pace for shahen or Hasan ali

I live about 40 minutes from the ground and I reckon there will be a full first innings. The second innings has a chance of being reduced as 30% precipitation is predicted. However do not lose hope as these could be light passing showers. I think if the second innings is effected maybe the team batting second will lose 20 overs.

Don't think you are favourite against Pakistan, Ganguly tells India

MANCHESTER: India must not entertain thoughts that they would start favourites in the marquee World Cup clash against Pakistan, warned stalwarts Sourav Ganguly and Sachin Tendulkar.

Ganguly said the Indian team perhaps made the mistake of taking Pakistan lightly in the 2017 Champions Trophy final and had to bite the dust.

"India needs to be very careful, don't go into this game thinking they are the favourites. I think they did that the last time in 2017 in the ICC Champions Trophy finals, and Pakistan beat them hands down. It's going to be a great game of cricket," commented Ganguly as an expert for Star Sports ahead of the game.

Tendulkar also said that India cannot afford to take the traditional rivals lightly.

"Pakistan has always been unpredictable, and they are a dangerous side - so there is no way the Indian team is going to take them lightly. Every step that the Indian team takes forward, we would want to be 100% sure of what we are doing, and it is well thought and well planned," he said.

The hype and interest an India-Pakistan cricket match generates is surreal and both Tendukar and Ganguly agreed that "it is more than just a cricket match".

"People get a bit carried away, and excited with this game, so from that point of view it's going to be a huge game in Manchester on Sunday. My first trip as a captain against Pakistan in 2003 - we had never won there before, but then we won both the Test matches and one-dayers. My memories of playing against Pakistan have been happy times for India," said Ganguly.

Tendulkar also recalled the build up of that 2003 tour.

"A year before we played each other, people had started talking about that match. They said, come-what-may, you must win that game, after that whatever happens they really don't care. I said, don't think like that because players think differently," said Tendulkar.

Ganguly also felt that handling pacer Mohammed Amir will be key for India.

"In this World Cup 2019 team, Mohd. Amir was nowhere in the picture. They had dropped him, he comes back and takes up being the leading fast bowler in the squad. That's what you get from a side like Pakistan."

Anil Kumble, another Indian stalwart, said since the two teams do not play each other quite often, it leads to building up a bit of "drama".

"If you have to win the World Cup you have to consistently beat teams, and India-Pakistan matches have always been marquee events. ICC knows that; as soon as they opened out the schedule and ticketing, within 15 minutes the match was sold out and that's the importance of an India - Pakistan match.

"The World Cup comes once in four years, making the match all that more important. For a player, it's another match, you still must do your skill sets well, you still have to bowl well, and take those catches, that's something the Indian team will be focused on," said Kumble.

Just tuned into SL v Oz match and Oz bowlers including Starc received phainty from openers. Our batsmen should do the same and target Bumrah and Bhuvi, don't let them settle but obviously don't throw away the wicket. Their aim should be the stands of Old Trafford .....football ground across the road. :ua

Shadab will get away if the pacers get early break through. if not it will be difficult for him too

I always feel that India selects the right team against Pak in those crucial CWC encounter..

Pak batsman has a weakness for left arm spin and also not good against pace bowling.. Im very sure India will select their bowling line up attacking these two aspects...Also to note, key players will be dismissed by part-timers which dhoni and india had exploited really well against pak since 2007

For which i'm expecting Jadeja and Shami added to the bowling lineup tmw, not sure if they will drop both chahal and kuldeep..'but very sure only one of chahal or kuldeep will play if played...

I believe India will go with the following lineup with shami peppering the short pitch stuff, jadeja and Kedhar or jadeja and chahal to take care of spin bowling + 35-40 overs of pace bowling...

Rohit, Rahul, Kohli, Dhoni, Vijay, Hardik, Jadeja, chahal, Shami, Bumrah and Bhuvi

Key players dismissed by part timers. Good observation.

And I too believe out of kuldeep and chahal, only one will play.

We will smash Chahal, it is Kuldeep I'm worried about. If India drop him then it'll be the most stupid decision ever. We have trouble with left arm spin whether offie or leggie.

Shocking decision to hold one of the biggest games of the group stage in Manc. It’s always bloody raining in miserable Manchester. Most other grounds would be able to host a game tomorrow, even if it had to effectively be a T20.

India legend Sunil Gavaskar warned the stakes couldn’t be higher ahead of the mouth-watering clash between India and Pakistan at Old Trafford.

Up to one billion people are expected to tune into the action on television, as fans all over the world prepare for one of the biggest events in global sport.

India remain unbeaten going into the game, while Pakistan have just one win in four – though that was again tournament hosts and world No.1 ranked team England.

However, former India skipper Gavaskar, who won the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in 1983, said Pakistan’s tough start to the tournament has put extra pressure on Sarfaraz Ahmed’s men.

He said: “It’s a must-win game for them. If they don’t win tomorrow, it’ll be very tough.

“The fact it’s an old rivalry means it will be followed closely by the people of both countries, but Pakistan have had a bit of a stumble so far so there’s probably a bit more pressure on them.

“If it’s a proper 50-overs game I think India have the strength to win.

“But if gets truncated, if it’s a game that gets reduced to 30 overs or less, anything can happen.”

Despite Pakistan’s solitary victory coming against England, Gavaskar tipped the tournament favourites to win the World Cup following their comprehensive eight-wicket win over the West Indies on Friday.

He said: “My favourites for the last three years have always been England.

“Their opening batting and their bowling attack have been fantastic, but I think more than anything else it’s the leadership they’ve got.

“I think they should’ve won the Champions Trophy two years ago as well, but sometimes when it comes to the knockout stages you have one bad day and you are out of the tournament.

“But the way England have been playing and the way they have recovered after losing to Pakistan doesn’t bode too well for the other teams.”

Go with this team batting outright till no.11 and enough cover in bowling also if India bats first and score big then dont panic and try ouuta box with a pinch hitter like Hasan at 2down go with jazzba :messi

If Pakistan beats Ind tomorrow, with WI vs BD match on Monday, things could get really interesting for team India.

No Imad Wasim... Jadega will run him out due to his poor running

Cricket can never be a world Wide playing sports. It can never be. Only due to incompetency of those in powers.

World Cup matches are not joke. They should be done something about this.
Weather is not looking great for game.

And the irony is draining system in that ground is very bad. Ground won't be suitable to play anyways, even if rain stops.

Already 10 pages, and it's just a pre-match discussion. Talk about an over-hyped match, which might not even happen or will likely be one-sided.

Try to get a stable start with the top 3, accelerate the score with the rest. Yes Hasan is off but probably not worth replacing him at this stage, Shaheen looks a bit off and Hussnain probably isn't ready. Fakhar demoting him to 4th better than totally excluding him. Imad mainly as we need his bowling especially if some of our pacers are off and he gets runs with the bat fairly consistently down at 7.

Shaheen

I would play Asif over Imad because Imad can be inconsistent and unreliable, although Asif is unreliable and inconsistent too, but at least he can smash sixes at will, which will matter a lot. I would prefer Hasan over Wahab as Hasan has been an attacking bowler, while Wahab mostly bowls short of length useless stuff. And Shaheen must play, if he bowls good length or full, he will be the wicket taker! Dropping Shaheen will be a bad move.

But Asif is a huge liability in the field, dropped two easy catches and cost atleast 15 + runs. Imad is quick and gives everything also has stylish hair :afridi

Almost 800,000 applications for tickets and more than a billion viewers expected worldwide – when India take on Pakistan it’s always a must-see event.

Sunday’s clash at Old Trafford is the most eagerly-anticipated of all the group-stage matches at this ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.

Pakistan coach Mickey Arthur said in his pre-match press conference that careers will be defined by the fixture, while the fact the sides have met just twice – in any format – in the past two years, makes the excitement all the more palpable.

Throw in the match’s importance in the race for the knockout stages and it’s easy to see why it will be one of the biggest global sporting events of the year.

So what could prove to be the decisive factor in Manchester?

Ending the World Cup woe

Pakistan have the better of the overall head-to-head record – winning 73 of the 131 ODIs contested between the sides, to India’s 54 – but at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, it’s a different story entirely.

India have come out on top in all six meetings at the global showpiece, starting with a 43-run triumph back in 1992 and most recently securing a 76-run victory in 2015.

It’s quite a statistical hoodoo for Pakistan to overcome but they can take heart from the last game the teams played in England – Fakhar Zaman’s 114 and Mohammad Amir’s 3/16 helping them to a huge 180-run win in the ICC Champions Trophy final at the Oval almost two years ago to the day.
Amir’s resurgence

Speaking of Mohammad Amir, he wasn’t in Pakistan’s initial 15-man World Cup squad but once injuries gave him an opportunity at the tournament, the left-arm seamer has seized it in style.

Three wickets against West Indies, two against England and brilliant figures of 5/30 against Australia have put him among the tournament’s leading wicket-takers.

The 27-year-old’s battle against the Indian top order could prove decisive and Amir will be particularly encouraged by his recent record against opener Rohit Sharma – trapping him LBW with his third ball in that 2017 Champions Trophy final, having dismissed him in the same manner with his second ball in the Asia Cup a year prior.

Amir has proven himself a bowler for the big occasion and occasions don’t come much bigger than this.
Kohli’s class

With KL Rahul expected to move up from No.4 open the batting for India in the absence of the injured Shikhar Dhawan, more pressure could fall on the shoulders of Virat Kohli at three.

Fortunately, the Indian skipper seems impervious and has carried the team on his back plenty of times during his 11-year international career.

Kohli demonstrated his form with a classy knock of 82 against Australia and has a healthy average of 45.90, with two tons and a half-century, in his 12 ODIs against Pakistan.

The number one batsman in the ODI rankings also sports a ridiculous 70.33 average over the past four years in the format – racking up 5,697 runs in that time – so limiting the damage he can cause will be a vital, if unenviable, task for Mickey Arthur’s men.

Babar looking to build

He’s still only 24 years old but Pakistan hope that in the long-term, Babar Azam can be their answer to Kohli.

That’s a huge ask for any young player but the classy right-hander is certainly on the right track and is already ranked as the number one batsman in international T20 cricket.

Heading into this World Cup, Babar had played 64 ODIs in which he had made 2,739 runs at 51.67 (including nine hundreds and 12 fifties), with a strike rate of 85.96.

Those are numbers that compare favourably to Kohli at that stage of his career – after 64 ODIs, the Indian superstar had accumulated 2,347 runs at 43.49 (including six hundreds and 16 fifties), with a strike rate of 82.14.

It’s what Kohli did next and how his game developed that puts him among the all-time greats but Babar, who is yet to clear 50 in four matches against India, could certainly take another step down that path by leading Pakistan to victory on Sunday.

Bumrah bringing his best

As the number one bowler in the ICC ODI rankings, Jasprit Bumrah provides India with another consistently potent weapon with the ball, although he hasn’t quite hit the heights in his four one-dayers against Pakistan.

Bumrah has taken just four wickets in those matches and the 0/68 from the Champions Trophy final in 2017 remain his worst figures in ODI cricket to date.

An average of 35.75 against Pakistan isn’t in the same league as his stellar mark of 21.98 during his ODI career as a whole but the 25-year-old has already demonstrated his quality during this World Cup with a scintillating spell in India’s opener against South Africa that caused fits for the Proteas top order.

Heading into the World Cup, nobody in world cricket had taken more wickets at the death than Bumrah’s 44 since his ODI debut against Australia in January 2016, so if the game does go down to the wire – India can boast just the man for the job.

I hope it rains and we get 1 point. I want my team to be in semis at least.

I live an about hour away from Manchester, I think we will get enough overs for a game. If rain under 50 percent is predicted, I don’t think that will stop a game. Today where I live it has been sunny for most of the day and had periods of rain for half an hour so. I have a feeling these will be the conditions tomorrow.

Come on Pakistan, we have to do this.

If PAK wants to beat india, they need to bat first and hope to score 300+. IF that doesn't happen, it's pak that will choke under pressure.

Is it just me or does this training/pavalion kit is far better looking than green one?

All this media nonsense. Apart from kohli press conference, do you see such comments from indian players? They need to talk with their performance. No one is interested in their views about the match. The PCB guy who took video, should be banned/warned.

Start is expected to be delayed due to wet outfield. Rain later on in afternoon. :(

Rohit, Rahul, Kohli, Dhoni, Vijay, Hardik, Jadeja, chahal, Shami, Bumrah and Bhuvi

Given that Vijay and Hardik are almost regular bowlers, the above team would have 7 bowlers.

Don't know whether it will be a washout or not but TV manufacturers will be the ones praying the most for an uninterrupted game.

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO PAKISTAN TEAM!

It looks like there WILL be a result in this match, but they will NOT be a full match!
Early weather predictions by the bbc, predicted rain at old trafford from 2pm to midnight. Todays bbc prediction is that the rain will start at 5pm and go on to past midnight. This may change further by tomorrow!

What Pakiistan team management need to know is that there will be aresult to this match! NO SHARED POINTS!
We should get a full 1st innings and a partial 2nd innings. However, the 2nd innings will be more than 20 overs long and therefore, constitute a match!
THE TEAM BATTING SECOND NEEDS TO BE AHEAD OF THE DLS SCORE WHEN THE MATCH IS ABANDONED!
HENCE, PAKISTAN NEED TO BAT SECOND AND KEEP AHEAD OF THE DLS SCORE!
Imam will be a big, big, problem for us as he will make us fall behind the dls score and ultimately, lose this match and be eliminated from the wc!
We need to back quick and not lose wickets!

If india win the toss and decid to field, w

If this is the case then batting second would be stupid.

Bat first, get a big score and then bowl we'll to India who score very slowly in the first ten.

The most important thing is selection and this is the best possible side to play:

Imam
Fakhar
Babar
Hafeez
Sarfraz
Asif
Shadab
Imad
Hasan
Amir
Riaz/Hasnain

5 or 6 bowling options and batting depth down to Amir at 10.

India's team combination might change depending on whether overs will be reduced or not. If it is shortened game T20 specialist Karthik will definitely play

This is pathetic. At the eden Gardens they covered the entire ground.

Toss wins. paksitan ask Indai to bat. India 0/3.. Then suddenly rain pours and game gets washed out :) Will love to see the reaction of mickey

The chances of rain has increased to 50% for most of the day.

With the ground already flooded this could a long frustrating day. Highly doubt a full match will take place , if lucky a T20 game could happen.

Pakistan to win or share a point. :afridi

What a terrible world cup it has turn out to be.

Eden gardens i think ...2016 WC-T20 match...am sure this was against pak....it rained...they covered the entire ground....they removed the covers...match started an hour late but we still had a full match.....
why cant the do the same in Eng? is it due to cover/tarpulain shortage or manpower shortage?
Have seen the grounds covered in SL as well...
Surely ECB / ICC needs to see this and emulate....

The forecast keeps changing. No point in looking at it until right before the match.

I guess wil be a reduced overs match....obviously teams need to target boundaries and the team that does this max will come out on top....much like an extended T20 game
for india...id go with KL to open, VS at 2, DK at 3, replace kul-cha with Jaddu and shami.
That way we've covered most bases for batting if it swings or seams big time or also get the power hitters in....and if india bowl first we are better placed to get 20 ov out of jaddu, VS and HP....
For PAK i think they made a mistake last time by not including shadab-considering oz's weakness agains spin...am sure he will play against ind....a gun fielder and above av batsman, such guys lift the team...
overall a good matchup in the offing....hope the weather stays away...
-Hope we bloggers-at least my fellow indian bloggers blog like how Rahul D, Sachin, vvs, anil and scores of other indian who donned the proud blue cap played...ie with restraint in victory and dignity in defeat...
cheers :)

The forecast keeps changing. No point in looking at it until right before the match.

It's Manchester, when rain is forecast(as it is) it usually rains more! I think it's due to the Pennines, those hills seem to attract more than anywhere else in England! Mabye if we are lucky, we will get a completed match of some sort but Ill be surpised to see a 50 over game.
