Hahaha.

Even Shoaib knows that the match is likely to be abandoned.

We need a live weather cam from Manchester today.

It's hard to believe there are ducks swimming !

If you didn’t buy the ticket from ICC and paid an extortionate amount, Unless you’re super rich. I’d be a little worried if I was you.

You think this guy would have bought a ticket??
He's been lying about the weather since Thursday.

Met office forecasts tend to change a lot more than BBC weather's so as of now trust the BBC weather forecast. One day before that aus vs pak match the met office was predicted heavy rain at 4 and 5 but it changed to no rain in like 4 hours.

Do you like rain puddles Ronaldo?

I have found weather.com to be usually accurate. They predict "light rain" throughout the day.

Yes this is the most accurate. A lot more accurate than BBC.

The constant light rain will mean that the match will be abandoned.

But more importantly in Manchester the light rain always turns heavy and from all reports from the ground etc this match is heading for abandonment.

1 point each.

Weather.com is a private company that lives and dies by the accuracy of their weather predictions. So they make the best possible effort to get their forecasts right. BBC on the other hand is a public sector organization and we all know...

I have found BBC to be highly accurate for weather predictions.

However, when a guy 10 minutes away from the ground swears ducks are swimming, its just hard to ignore the accuracy !

So going to ignore pleasant BBC just for this match and go to work on assumption that there wont be a game at all.

Who's that "guy"?

If Pakistan bat first: again, I post for the zillionth time on this forum the ongoing tournament, that Pakistan should never go for a set target. The moment they do that, they´ll go awry and collapse right away. Just bat, play the ball on merit and assess after 35 overs as to where they´re going.

If Pakistan bat second: again, the same strategy. Bat with calm, play the ball on merit and assess after maybe 20 overs as to where the required run-rate stands. Remember always, that even a target of 350 is NOT chased down within the first 10 overs.

A a side note, I recently read Lockie Ferguson say that the way to target this strong Indian batting line-up is to build dot balls together. I massively disagree on that point. The opinion would stand if it had been a top-order consisting of Sehwag and Tendulkar, but this Indian top-order comprising of Rohit, Dhawan and Kohli works a completely different way. It has been India´s style right from the ICC Champions Trophy 2013, that they don´t at all mind the dot balls and going slowly the initial 20 overs or so. They´re perfectly fine with even 35 for none in 10 overs or a score of 80 without loss in the first 20 overs. They like to get set and to keep wickets in hand. The only way to go past them is to attack them early with the new ball - as for example Amir did in the ICC Champions Trophy Final 2017. If you go the Lockie way, you´re playing it into their hands without even realising.

Do we have any folks here who actually live in the city?

How's the weather now?

My question was how many times have they scored 350+ ever?

That was the scenario he was basing his NRR hypothetical on.

Might have well said if they score 500 and bowl India out for 50, that it will get to greater than 2+ overall.

Brother it was just a scenario.

And Pakistan has scored 5x 340+ in their last couple of matches.

This is how AccuWeather predicts - it's always been very accurate as well.

Showers for 2 hours at 10 - 11am, then mostly cloudy only, and some more showers towards the evening.

Was only an hours worth of rain last nighy, its dry and humid outside. Lots of dark clouds so rain will return. Interesting to know if pitch at OT has been covered through dry spells or not.

I live 8 miles from the ground. It's been cloudy. Tomorrow it is predicted to rain from 5pm onwards.

Okay, thanks.

Right now it's weather.com that predicts a very gloomy picture - continuous showers from 11AM .

The percentage prediction for rain is rather similar for Accuweather and Weather.com. The following is a screenshot of Accuweather percentages for rain.

I don’t think the match will get abandoned.

At most we will get a shortened game.

It's actually a good lineup but Hafeez and Haris will have to bowl 10 overs between them and there are no lefties in this Indian batting lineup so Hafeez would not become a threat.
Maybe picking Hassan/Shaheen instead of Asif will make this team a bit more strong.

The percentage precipitation on weather.com is much higher..

60% starting from 11am.

While accuweather says a max of 51% at 10/11am/3pm.. and then it's in the 40s for the rest of the day.

I guess this could mean showers, as even 40% indicates a high chance of rain in the UK if I'm not wrong.

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO PAKISTAN TEAM!

It looks like there WILL be a result in this match, but they will NOT be a full match!
Early weather predictions by the bbc, predicted rain at old trafford from 2pm to midnight. Todays bbc prediction is that the rain will start at 5pm and go on to past midnight. This may change further by tomorrow!

What Pakiistan team management need to know is that there will be aresult to this match! NO SHARED POINTS!
We should get a full 1st innings and a partial 2nd innings. However, the 2nd innings will be more than 20 overs long and therefore, constitute a match!
THE TEAM BATTING SECOND NEEDS TO BE AHEAD OF THE DLS SCORE WHEN THE MATCH IS ABANDONED!
HENCE, PAKISTAN NEED TO BAT SECOND AND KEEP AHEAD OF THE DLS SCORE!
Imam will be a big, big, problem for us as he will make us fall behind the dls score and ultimately, lose this match and be eliminated from the wc!
We need to back quick and not lose wickets!

If india win the toss and decid to field, w

If india field first, we need to bat VERY big and FAST!
Imam is going to kill us!
When bowling, we need to keep them below the dls score! Hence we cant play shaheen, imad is a must!
Team pak do you realise this!

Calm down Bro.

There might not be a match due to the rain.

I've just explained that there will be a match but not a full match.
And thete WILL be a result a dls result!
NO SHARED POINTS!

Are you there in Manchester?

If not then you don't need to explain anything.

Just listen to what Amjid Javed, myself and several others have told you about the weather.

I'm iin rusholme visiting relatives. But that doesn't matter! The weather can change over night and the bbc weather is very accurate!

Weather forecast is the most reliable info not residents of the city a day before the match

Its quite dry at the moment. Let’s see if any rain returns later.

Guys just to clear up confusions.

I never said that the match will definitely be abandoned but it is looking likely that it will be abandoned.

Let's hope the weather takes a u turn inshallah.

I have been constantly checking BBC weather forecast and chances of rain going down all the time

at this rate I will be in BBC studio doing weather section:shhh

Let's stop fighting over the weather, shall we? :najam

It's a game of predictions - you can't say anything just by looking at the clouds, if you're present there.

Science matters, and we have to rely on forecasts.

It is NOT going to rain before 5pm tomorrow , according to bbc, who get their data from the met office, the most accurate agency for predicing weather in the uk!

Game on, but will be a dls result!
PAK MANAGEMENT - ARE YOU PREPARED FOR A DLS RESULT?

World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev on Friday said that India are a far better side than Pakistan and he doesn't see Virat Kohli's team losing to the arch-rivals in their World Cup clash on Sunday.

"Looking at both the teams the Indian team is definitely far better. I am not saying because I am Indian," said Kapil.

"But I feel when I was playing the Pakistan team was much better than us. Today I can say that if they play 10 matches, India will win 7. India are far better than Pakistan. What happens that day God knows."

On the rise of Indian fast bowling over the years, Kapil said if an Indian (Jasprit Bumrah) is the number one fast bowler in the world, it shows that "we have come a long, long way".

"When you don't have something and you get it, you feel proud about that. That is what has happened to the Indian team in the last 15 years, bowlers started coming up. Often all cricketers say bowlers win matches."

The former captain had praise for Bumrah, who has begun this tournament with form on his side and taken five wickets in two games.

"When I saw him (Bumrah) first time I thought that he will not have such ability. I changed my word and I say God, he is really fantastic. From such a short run-up he can produce so much pace. I just want him to be fit for the next five years."

Asked to compare his captaincy with that of the current skipper Virat Kohli, he said, "Virat Kohli. He is too good. I don't think I can compare myself with him. He is really good. He is the no.1 player in the world."

Quizzed about the catch of Sir Viv Richards in the 1983 World Cup final against the West Indies, Kapil said, "It was very important according to the situation. The important catch was of Clive Lloyd the next wicket because we started believing that we could win after that dismissal."

Kapil also backed former captain MS Dhoni following the controversy over his gloves which had an Army insignia engraved on them. The ICC turned down BCCI's request to let Dhoni wear the same gloves, saying it was against its regulations.

"It is not a controversy and he showed a feeling within him to put a logo there and we have to go with the system. I don't think he realised that it is going to be such a big thing. You have to go through the system or the law.”

"I respect Dhoni and he showed passion and love for his country and Army people and that is nothing wrong."

Weather update, very humid outside and shockingly sunny but cloudy. No rain today yet.

Alot of people on here, who say it will be a washout tomorrow, are going to be in for a big surprise, when there is a dls result tomorrow!

I just hope pak management are prepared and that they are not in for a big surprise, with the dls result!

The closest India-Pak WC match was 2003 when Pakistan batted first. Pakistan generally aren’t good at chasing. Definitely not in a high pressure game. But game will be decided by DLS. Tricky toss for Pakistan.

It was actually the 2011 cwc semi.
We lost the 2003 match by 5 overs.

Pakistan has won the toss only on 1 occasion in all Indo Pak encounters including T20s

Pakistan has won the toss only on 1 occasion in all Indo Pak encounters including T20s
This will make a huge difference in most games, but if as I predicted, tomorrows game is a dls result, winning the toss will make a HUGE difference!

Leave the weather discussion out of this for now.

Discuss tactics, team news etc

hard to set a total batting first if the game is anticipated to be reduced. Pakistan should bowl first. Pakistan's chances of winning go up if the game ends up being 30 to 40 overs. We all know we can't bat more than 20 overs :sarf

Because of rain, I would bat second.
Then when batting second, because of the DL method, just focus on run rate.

If match is halted in between second innings, team with good run rate tends to win.

So India based on their batting ability, would have a huge advantage batting second IMO.

One more stupid post and you will both be banned.

This is the final warning - think carefully.

Sunday:

Mainly dry and clear to start, with some early sunshine, and the odd shower. Thereafter, expect a day of sunny spells and heavy showers, the showers perhaps merging into longer spells of rain.

Whoever wins the toss, bowl first. Massive advantage. This match has lost the charm of previous ones where it was balanced.

Seems there is no clarity on weather - all that can be said is that there may be a disruption - how long for - we will leave that until tomorrow.

If its a rain shortened game...obviously the team that gets max boundaries will come out on top....much likea 20-20...my guess is india will leave out kulcha and take shami and jaddu....also KL will open, Shankar will come in for KJ and DK will be inthe middle order...that way i guess we've covered batting/power hiting, most options & are better placed to get 20 ov out of HP, jaddu, and shankar...also that line would also have gun fielders...
on anohter front...why is mo Abbas not in the squad...i thought he was awesome in eng conditons in tests...he would rock here...

Still no rain today, there are spells of dark clouds, but no rain yet. Pretty much going to have to see what its like hour by hour today and tomorrow. Maybe a shortened game.

:salute to ICC for not keeping reserve days....what if finals were rained out.....

A khyali pulao...as below :)

If all remaining matches get rained out
points tally wold be
NZ 12
Ind 11
Eng 10
OZ 10
WI, SL & Pak - 9
Banga - 8
SA & Afg 6

1st semi - Oz vs NZ- rained out gain
- NZ (on higher points)

Semi II Eng vs Ind (rained out again)
- India (on higher points)

finals = NZ Vs Ind...- rained out...

Congrats to the joint winners -NZ & Ind.....:shhh:virat:djb:broad:rabada

okay, ignoring all the forecasts and probability based results for a minute, can someone with better math skills than me post how big of phainty do we need to dish out to India to displace them at 4th position come sunday?

they are sitting on 5 points, we are sitting on 3 points, their NRR is .539 ours is -1.796, for more info on for/against runs/wickets, check world cup site. i know its not easy to come with one scenario as batting first/second/all-out affect it. perhaps assume two options:
1) we bat first score 350. then how much we have to get them all out for?
2) they bat first we get them all out for 180, how many overs we have to chase it in?

i know it may not be realistic, but just wanted to know in any case.

also its unlikely Sarfraz can do this, but if we know the margin, after toss when commie ask him about how much he think they want to score, he can just say, we want 350+ and then get them all out under 1xx so we can be in 4th spot after this game and not have to worry about NRR.

If 1) Pak bat first score 350. then how much PAK have to get them all out for?

Pak has to get India All out for 215. Then NRR for INDIA will be -0.550 and NRR of PAK will be -0.545

If 2) they India bat first PAK get them all out for 180, how many overs PAK have to chase it in?
Pak has has rto chase it in 26.1 Overs. Then NRR for INDIA will be -0.573 and NRR of PAK will be -0.567

Looks very simple go for it

My team for Tomorrow
Imam
Fakhar
Babar
Hafeez
Sarfaraz
Malik
Shadab
Hasan
Amir
Wahab
Hasnain

Some reasons for this team-Its going to be overcast and we need 4 proper fast bowlers but also cant give India an easy 5th bowling option.Shadab can do better than Asif in overcast conditions in batting and his fielding is miles better.Asif dropped 2 catches against Aus.Malik is there to counter Chahal,Kuldeep and can do it better than Haris who is liability on the field. We cannot afford fielding lapses against India.Hasnain is the surprise package and can be handy in these conditions.Batting may look weak but our tail has shown good resistance.
Win the toss and bowl first

The monsoon rain has returned. Lets hope if there is a shortened game then pakistan gets selections and game plans right.

I would bring Imad instead of Shaheen.

If played you will see him get hammered..Aus has a pace loving batsmen, whereas India are spin loving batsmen...

Must not decide the based on the previous match, but should be based on the opposition...
