NEW DELHI: Despite growing border tensions between India and Pakistan and deadly skirmishes on the Line of Control, an eminent Indian surgeon Dr Subhash Gupta is set to travel to Karachi this month with his team to perform three to four liver transplants, reported Pakistan Today.
Dr. Gupta will perform these surgeries at the Dow University of Health Sciences. The university’s vice chancellor, Dr Saeed Quraishy referred to Dr. Gupta’s visit as a “good omen” for Pakistan.

“Not only would Dr Gupta perform those complicated surgeries, he would also train Pakistani doctors and make them learn from his experience and expertise in the field of transplant surgery,” said Dr. Quraishy.
Dr. Quraishy hoped that Pakistani surgeons would be able to perform liver transplants after learning from Dr. Gupta.

Delhi based Dr. Gupta is currently the chairman of the Liver and Biliary Sciences department at Max Super Speciality Hospital.
The 56-year-old surgeon had performed his last operation in Pakistan in December last year.

I read some comments on thread related to indian medical facilities .
Per year thousands of pakistani patients and many many patients around the world come to india for their treatment. And indian medical tourism is growing at very rapid pace.
Good gestures from indian doctors teaching pakistani surgeons about liver transplant. We have so much to share from space industry to medical to IT to spirtiuality to etc etc
..

Good for him! What does his nationality has to do with anything? Credit goes to the doctor and doctor only for putting politics and other issues aside. If he was acting on behalf of the nationalists he would be saying these things.
Why do enemy countries need oversized presence in each others countries?
Why do we even bother with having anything in Pakistan?

Because the good doctor isn't a worthless keyboard warrior and has achieved quite a bit in his life and therefore doesn't need to big himself up on an internet forum.

Very well done to Dr. Gupta.... We need more such knowledge sharing.

Hahaha just love the response from some pakistani posters here. When its some positive news then it is individual, not a keyboard warrior and all and all.
And when these guys spend whole day on google searching bad things about india and they find some thing then they paint whole country in to poverty, and crime and all and all.

As a doctor his first and foremost duty is to save a patient. That duty trumps everything.

Offcourse who denies that. But its about skills as well. Its related to the advances that indian medical has reached and the prospectus of indian medical tourism as well in the present and future and how it can contribute to the country

Good.

Disease does not understand nationality/religion. Hence Doctors should be the same.

Good gesture.

I know OP posted this after the Leg-Pillow thread. There is a world of difference between Private and Government hospitals. The Doctors at Apollo/Fortis/Yasodha hospitals all over India are world class. The facilities and faculty there are also top class.

Very impressed with our medical tourism industry, even if this is not a direct equivalent of that.

I remember Gulf to India flights back in the day packed only with Indians and the Western tourists, but now there are a whole lot of Arabs also (even from the Persian Gulf nations) coming down south mainly to procure medical treatment.

We've obviously done something right if this is the case: the quality is good, and the price is cheap.

I still have faith in humanity despite most Indian's being war mongers there are plenty off good ones as well. Have always called a spade a spade be it an Indian Cricketer or actor. Indian doctors are amongst the world's best, there is no doubt about this at all.

Medical tourism and all is fine but we seriously need to devote our time and plan an effective strategy to fix the distress in secondary and tertiary sectors in medicine. Despite having some really good doctors , we are far far behind the WHO requirements and are as close to fulfilling Sustainable development goals related to health as Nawaz Sharif is to becoming prime minister of Pakistan.

Pak has to spend most on education, jobs and healthcare. No government has ever given such things any thought never mind priority.

Glad to see that there are doctors in India who haven't blinded by nationalism.

Great to see this. Want to see more of this, hopefully.

A patient is a patient. Treating him is the first and foremost responsibility of a doctor.

Indian doctors are excellent and very talented. I have come across numerous ones myself.

Because it was the nation and its educational facilities that made him the doctor he is now. He didnt become doctor without India’s educational system.

Anyways, its a good move as saving lives is way more important than any nationalist agenda. I hope Pakistani awaam gets the treatment in their homeland and do not have to leave for treatment.

Thats how it suits their agenda. Sadly, when something bad happens whole community gets blame for it, but when something good happens it becomes ‘individual choice’. Yesterday there was a thread where some people were mocking Indian medical facilities, yet now are getting help from same medical institution. Anyhow, Im proud that my countrymen are doing great service to humanity regardless of their faith/nationality.

None of that matters. India’s offical policy has been to isolate Pakistan and this amazing doctor went against that, went against the petty politics of BJP to perform his duties as a doctor. So yeah it is the individual who deserves appreciation, not the nation or the chest thumping nationalists.

This post above reveals the the real motive behind this thread. Gloating and boasting about Indian medical standards.

Tsk tsk.

why wouldn't anyone gloat and boast?

Providing adequate healthcare should be the core foundation of any nation.

There is nothing to gloat and boast in a doctor who is doing his duty of saving a life.

For once chest thumping can be done away with.

His post is a reaction to comments related to Indian medical facilities in the past, that's why. And ask yourself what has a SPACE program got to do with a liver transplant?

Anyway, good on the Indian doctor, putting lives ahead of everything else.

I'd rather see gloat and boast about saving life then a nationalist supporting hard line radical extremist elected leader.

Will always welcome any gloating boasting of a doctor who would go out of his/her way to help other. s

Nationalism doesnot stop a doctor from treating a patient. Nor does it stop him from supporting a Indian PM who you do not like. These are two very different things.

As a doctor we are taught and we take oath to treat our patient irrespective of any other consideration. Thats our foremost and most absolute rule.

When and where did I say nationalism stop doctor from treating anyone? It is an individual choice.

But nationalism does make one over look extremist radical view to elect an extremist.

He may be extremist to you. But not to the people of his country and to his people. He may be the best choice for them.

The Doctor in the OP may have voted for the person you hate. Will that change your opinion of what he is doing?

Indian Govt have helped Pakistani patients seeking medical help time after time. Sushma Swaraj have issued many visas in past few months and have also maintained a stance that India will help those who seeks medical help. Indian Govt stance is to isolate Pakistan economically.

Yapp real motive is to be proud of these things. And many many things which i didnt mention. Space and all were just examples .Between i know real motive of most of your posts. So you should be the last one to point out.

Proud of skills of doctors and the medical industry of india which has come to the point to be considered one of the best in the world if we take reputed hospitals of india.
Long way to go though. Its not chest thumping. Its not like i said our doctor did a favour by teaching pakistani doctors and performing surguries there.
There is a difference.

If he did then I’ll criticize him for that and at the same time I’ll praise him for going out of his way to help other.

My criticism of Modi is for him using religious rhetoric to invoke violence against minority. Not directly but he affiliated with groups that does. And as long as people are voting for him for this particulate reason he will get criticism.

Why do these doctors go to Pakistan for glory hunting? Also all those Big Indian hospitals who sponsor free treatment for Pakistani patients? India is not USA or Germany to spend on others when we can spend all that effort and money on our own massive Indian population but i guess these Aman ki Asha Tamasha types will always remain glory hunters.

Random guess, this doctor is not a BJP supporter.

Good on him but there is also a group known as 'doctors without borders'.

Well, going by the knowledge of Indian posters here, Dr. Gupta is probably coming to Pakistan since majority of Indians firmly believe there are no hospitals or doctors or even med schools in Pakistan. He probably thinks he will be the first man to start medical treatment in Pakistan...very noble of Dr. Gupta.
