New Delhi [India], Dec 6 (ANI): The Indian Premier League (IPL) Governing Council meeting on Wednesday decided the franchises would be allowed to retain maximum five players by virtue of a combination of pre-auction retention and Right To Match (RTM) cards for the 2018 edition.

The franchises will be allowed either maximum three retentions or three RTM and if there is no pre-auction retention, then also they will have the provision of maximum three RTMs.

The retention of the players will be performed adhering to the rule of maximum number of three capped Indian players, maximum number of two overseas players and maximum number of two uncapped Indian players.

The Governing Council, along with the Committee of Administrators (CoA), also discussed salary cap, player regulations and other related issues.

It also hiked the salary budget of the franchises from Rs 66 crore to Rs 80 crore for the next year's auction, with the figure to rise to 82 crore in 2019 and 85 crore in 2020.

The minimum spend will be 75 per cent of the salary cap for each season.

The franchise will be allowed to have a maximum of 25 players (up to 8 overseas) and a minimum of 18 players. (ANI)

RCB :- Kohli, ABD, Chahal, Rahul definitely Gayle and Watson most likely to be kicked out.. But who will be 5th one

Wow That salary cap is just increasing each season.. Sumthin they learnt from PSL :danish

That salary cap is at $12.5 million. That's a good chunk of change. When you make a $2.6 Billion deal, it elevates everything.

Damn, that is crazy money.

In terms of pay, it's IPL daylight couple more levels than the competition.

Hoping the PSL will pay half of that one day so they can attract the bigger international stars.

This makes sense. It'd be no fun if all teams looked completely different and harder to take it seriously. Would be interesting to see if RCB retain Gayle, his ability isn't great these days but he is still a massive name.

Virat and MS Dhoni Recommend Salary Cap for Uncapped Players In IPL: Reports

Virat and MS Dhoni Recommend Salary Cap for Uncapped Players In IPL: Reports

Cricketnext | Updated: December 6, 2017, 12:33 PM IST

New Delhi: Last year, in the IPL auctions, one and all were left bemused when uncapped players Mohammed Siraj and T Natarajan went for a whopping 2.6 and 3 crore respectively. Though these unknown players bagging such contracts is a big advertisement for IPL, but that perhaps might not happen again. As suggested by MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli, a salary cap has been put on the uncapped players, and the BCCI has welcome the suggestion, according to Indian Express.

The logic behind the move is that such big amounts to the uncapped players has diminished the value of domestic cricket. “A classic case was Cariappa, who was bought by KKR for Rs 2.4 crore in 2015. He had played a few games in the Karnataka Premier League but hadn’t played for the Karnataka Ranji side. It really sends a wrong message to all first-class players. On one side we have some who play non-stop Ranji Trophy games and earn only 10-12 lakh in an entire season, and here comes a boy who is getting so much. Kohli and Dhoni felt it wasn’t right and BCCI should keep a salary cap on these uncapped players,” a source in the BCCI said.

Dhoni was all for the move, and he along with Kohli urged the BCCI to go ahead with the move. Also, the need to pay the regulars in domestic cricket was discussed.

Good news. Don't want every team to have new players. Keeping a few players is good for the teams brand.

Punjab bookies link in fake cricket team racket

The Mumbai police are investigating the alleged links of three notorious bookies operating from Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi with a countrywide racket where fake selection camps were held to con young players aspiring to play for IPL teams.

Police sources said here that the three bookies — RS Dhindwal, Shubham Jain and Priyank Saxena — were active in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Chandigarh and were linked to the brains behind the fake selection camps.

Police had arrested Amritsar-based Aditya Bhandari, who ran the Arnav Cricket Academy, for allegedly organising selection camps, claiming to represent Kings XI Punjab. Bhandari illegally used the logos of KXIP and was holding these camps in western India. One of these camps was being held at Mumbai’s Oval Maidan when the law caught up with the brains behind the racket. Bhandari’s associates Harvinder Singh, Ravindra Gupta and Satendra Singh were picked up from the ground. Investigators from the Board of Control for Cricket in India have been provided with incriminating information against several young cricketers who may have been linked to these bookies in last summer’s IPL season.

Interrogation of the arrested persons has resulted in the unearthing of several residential and commercial properties owned by the bookies and their associates in Mumbai, Pune and other parts of Maharashtra, police said.
Incidentally, the name of bookie Shubham Jain figured in the match-fixing controversy involving Kerala-based cricketer S Sreesanth.

Plan changed by BCCI .. retention is allowed now. I only hope clubs are re-valued and sold again to different owners or prices.

PUNE: The mega auction of the Indian Premier League's 11th edition will be held in Bengaluru on January 27 and 28.

"Since most of the capped players will be back in auction, it will be a mega auction that will be held in Bengaluru on January 27 and 28. Since Bengaluru has been hosting all previous auctions, that was the choice of franchises," a senior BCCI official said on Tuesday.

This year's auction will see teams having an increased budget of Rs 80 crore from previous Rs 66 crore.
In all five players can be retained by a franchise, which includes two Right to Match cards.

Domestic T20 events rescheduled after request from IPL teams

The Board of Control for Cricket in India have rescheduled the domestic Twenty20 events so that they can take place before the Indian Premier League 2018 auctions.

The board has decided to bring forward the T20 zonal league and the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament upon the request of the IPL teams, who wanted to see the domestic players in action before they decided their strategies for the January 27-28 auction.

In the revised schedule, the inter-state T20 zonal league will be from January 8 to 16 instead of January 21 to 29. The super league stage and final of the Mushtaq Ali will be from January 21 to 27, advanced from February 4 to 10.

The format of the Mushtaq Ali tournament has again been tweaked from last year, when there was no super league and final, unlike this time.

The 50-over Vijay Hazare Trophy has also been brought forward about ten days. The group matches will start on February 5 and go on till February 14 as against the earlier schedule of February 16 to 25. The knockouts will then start from February 21 and go on till February 26.

The five-day Irani Cup, however, which has the Ranji Trophy winners taking on a Rest of India side, has been shifted from January 14 to 18 to March 4 to 8.

Also brought forward was the Prof DB Deodhar Trophy, which was earlier scheduled for March 14 to 18 but will now be played from March 4 to 8.

“The said changes are being done so that the T20 zonal league and Syed Mushtaq Ali knock-out (except the final match) is held before the player auction, which will enable the domestic players to showcase their talent and will also be beneficial for the franchises during the player auction to build their teams,” wrote Amitabh Choudhary, the acting BCCI secretary, in a letter to state associations.

According to reports, the BCCI have also ratified the dates for the two-day IPL auction, the biggest in recent times, at the recent IPL Governing Council meeting. The dates clash with the last two days of India’s final Test on their South Africa tour, in Johannesburg.

I am not talking about player retention. I am talking about franchise retention.
The franchises auction was for 10 years.

Damn, that is crazy money.

Hoping the PSL will pay half of that one day so they can attract the bigger international stars.

It's actually still incredibly small compared to the revenues generated.

In fact both the deal itself and the amount going to players is such a tiny fraction of what revenue comes from cricket that this really is a business which could be taken over Packer style by some businessman who paid 75-80% revenue to players and killed cricket.

For me KKR and Mumbai Indians will be the two hardest and most interesting retentions

KKR should retain: Andre Russell, Sunil Narine and Manish Pandey, then use RTM Cards on Chris Lynn and Kuldeep Yadav. If they want Gambhir, Shakib, Yusuf Pathan, Robin Uthappa back they will have to try and get them at the auction

MI should retain: Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya, then use RTM cards on Kieron Pollard and Krunal Pandya. If they want the likes of Malinga or Harbhajan back then they will have to look to buy them in the auction

Explanation on kohli's 17cr price
From a cricket website "As per the laws, the deduction from salary purse in case of retention will be determined on the basis of guideline price (15 crore) or actual price (whichever is higher). In this case, Kohli's 17 Crore took precedence."

DHONI REUNITES WITH RAINA AND JADEJA

Mahendra Singh Dhoni was back at his 'spiritual home' Chennai Super Kings while Royal Challengers Bengaluru retained India captain Virat Kohli during the much- publicised yet predictable Indian Premier League retentions in Mumbai on Thursday.

Mumbai Indians had the league's most successful captain Rohit Sharma back in their stable as most of the retentions happened on expected lines.

Current Australia skipper Steve Smith was Rajasthan Royals' only pick while his deputy David Warner remains with Sunrisers Hyderabad along with pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

Kings XI Punjab had left-arm spinner Axar Patel in their ranks while South African Chris Morris, young guns Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer are back with Delhi Daredevils.

The franchises that has gone for full three retentions are CSK, Mumbai Indians, Delhi Daredevils and RCB.

CSK have retained their powerhouse performers Ravindra Jadeja and Suresh Raina as their second and third choice respectively.

AB de Villiers is RCB's second retention while they have kept uncapped Sarfaraz Khan for Rs 3 crore while putting Chris Gayle back in the auction pool.

For Mumbai Indians, Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah are second and third retentions.

The purse that one spends for retention of three capped players is Rs 15 crore for Player 1, Rs 11 crore for Player 2 and Rs 7 crore for Player 3 while for two retentions -- it's Rs 12.5 crore for Player 1 and Rs 8.5 crore for player 2.

However for Virat Kohli, the retention was Rs 17 crore, which incidentally is his league fee. A single player retention had a deduction of Rs 12.5 crore.

Kolkata Knight Riders chose to retain only two players and the names did not include Gautam Gambhir. The title-winning skipper now moves back into the player pool for the auction, later this month.

Delhi Daredevils picked Chris Morris, Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer as the three players they carry forward into the new season.

Australia’s World Cup-winning captain Ricky Ponting was appointed coach of the team for the coming season.

Ponting takes over the reins at DD from former India captain Rahul Dravid, who had stepped down after the previous season owing to BCCI's conflict-of-interest regulations.

Dravid chose to coach India A and India Under-19 teams over the IPL franchise.

"Ricky Ponting has been appointed as head coach. We will have a new coach and a new team with the idea of having continuity. We have retained two youngsters and the whole team will be built around them. Chris Morris is a top all rounder," Daredevils CEO Hemant Dua said.

The 43-year-old has earlier coached Mumbai Indians for two seasons in 2015 (when they won the title) and 2016.

Two-time title-winning captain Gautam Gambhir has been dropped by Kolkata Knight Riders
Virat Kohli has come out of the event in Mumbai as the highest-earning player with RCB paying him Rs 17 crore.

MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja will once again reunite in yellow, with CSK electing to retain all three players in their comeback season.
Australian skipper Steve Smith who played for Rising Pune Super Giants in IPL 2017 has been retained by Rajasthan Royals for Rs 15 crore.

CSK, RAJASTHAN RETURN

The spotlight on Thursday’s player retention announcement will be on Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals, who are making a comeback after a two-year suspension. The two teams, who were banned for alleged spot-fixing and betting, have been allowed to retain the players who were on their 2015 roster.

Cricketers who were part of Rising Pune Supergiants and Gujarat Lions – teams that will now be discontinued – in IPL 2017 will also be part of the player pool available to CSK and RR.

IPL 2018 windows for player retention closed on Thursday, January 4. The franchises were eligible to retain five players each with combinations of player retention and right-to-match during the auction. This season will mark the return of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR). As expected, CSK retained MS Dhoni, who is likely to captain the side for the ninth time. Suresh Raina, who had led Gujarat Lions (GL) twice, will return to CSK as well, as will Ravindra Jadeja. The side have surprisingly let go of Ravichandran Ashwin. RR are have retained Steven Smith, who is expected to lead the side as well. They had the option to retain Ajinkya Rahane but did not opt for that.

As expected, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) retained their captain Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. In other news, Kohli and de Villiers will face each other for their respective nations in the India-South Africa Test series beginning Friday. Other retained heavyweights include Rohit Sharma (Mumbai Indians) and Sunil Narine (Kolkata Knight Riders). Here is the full IPL retention list:

Virat Kohli was already one of the highest paid players in the Indian Premier League (IPL) before the IPL Player Retentions, which was held in Mumbai on Thursday, but his salary with the Royal Challengers Bangalore received another boost as the franchise shelled out Rs 17 crore to retain the Indian skipper, making him the most expensive IPL player in terms of league fee. According to earlier figures released by the BCCI, Kohli was being paid Rs. 15 crore by RCB. MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma have been retained by Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians, respectively for Rs. 15 crore each but Kohli has still managed to stay ahead of his India ODI teammates.

Meanwhile, there were not too many surprises in the IPL Player Retentions as the franchises largely stuck to projected paths.

As expected, CSK retained Dhoni along with Suresh Raina (11 crore) and Ravindra Jadeja (7 crore). Rohit Sharma has been a revelation for the Mumbai Indians and as expected the stylish right-hander was retained along with all-rounder Hardik Pandya (11 crore) and pacer Jasprit Bumrah (7 crore).

While RCB shelled out 17 crore on Kohli, they also retained South African star AB de Villiers for Rs. 11 crore and Sarfaraz Khan for Rs. 3 crore (uncapped player).

Kolkata Knight Riders decided against retaining star captain Gautam Gambhir but kept West Indies duo Sunil Narine (12.5 crore) and Andre Russell (8.5 crore).

While most expected Delhi Daredevils to go into the main auction with their full purse, they sprang a surprise by retaining Rishabh Pant, Chris Morris and Shreyas Iyer.

Rajasthan Royals retained just one player -- Australian captain Steve Smith, meaning Ajinkya Rahane will go into the auction pool.

Sunrisers Hyderabad also threw a surprise by releasing Shikhar Dhawan and retaining David Warner and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

I think Delhi and Punjab will fight hard in auction to get gambhir as captain but kkr will use right to match to get him back. Lynn and pandey will be other two rtm for kkr. That means they will have to bid hard to get kuldeep, shakib back which they might not win. This year's auction going to be amazing.

If KKR wanted to retain Gambhir, then why did they release him in first place?

Chris Lynn not retained?

you can't retain every one . Only 2 overseas players can be retained they choose allrounder's narine and Russell.still KKR can get him back via using right to match card.
But if bidding for lynn gets high eg. Around 10cr KKR might let him go.
That's the best thing about auction you can't buy everyone.

Seen a lot of fans going crazy over some retentions or rather lack of retentions. Mainly from my fellow KKR Fans. GG and Chris Lynn can both still be signed in the auction or by using RTM Cards. So some people need to chill out. Saw some weird theories how Dhoni is behind this all lmao

People need to understand that some players are not retained due to the IPL rules, due to which teams have to be more tactical in which players they retain, whom they let go initially and whom they get rid of all together.

Also as for Colin Munro he wasn’t even in KKRs Squad last year

BCCI refuses to reschedule IPL after ICC makes unique request

The Indian Premier League is around the corner and the Board of Control for Cricket in India has turned down International Cricket Council's request of rescheduling a match at the Eden Gardens during its Annual board meeting in Kolkata from April 22-26.

It's after long time that ICC is having its high profile meeting in Kolkata and since it is overlapping with the cash-rich league, world body wanted BCCI to ensure that its members could at least watch a home match of Kolkata Knight Riders.

"Yes, there was a specific request from ICC as they wanted its various member delegates to watch an IPL game. However between April 22 and 26, there are no home games of KKR at the Eden Gardens," a senior BCCI official told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

KKR is playing a home match on April 16 and their next home game is on May 3.

Between April 22nd to 26th, matches will be held in Hyderabad, Mumbai, Indore, Bangalore and Jaipur.

"If we have to reschedule it, the entire itinerary would be in a disarray. So we told them that it's not possible to have an IPL match rescheduled," the official added.

Meanwhile, it was also known that uncertainty looms large over PCB chairman Najam Sethi's attendance.

The meeting is being held in Kolkata and not in Mumbai specifically to avoid any political protest over PCB delegate attending a meeting in India.

However, Sethi may end up not getting the Indian visa in prevailing volatile situation.

"If Sethi doesn't get visa, it might well be an indicator about the chances of Pakistan team procuring visa during the Asia Cup in September," the official said.

Rajasthan Royals returns!!
Will be interesting to see how Smith leads the changed team. This could very well be our season!

Even IPL doesn't have all sold-out matches. I remember seeing plenty of empty seats in Bangalore in last few seasons. Might have to do with the crap team they have got for last few seasons and Gayle not firing.

Rcb bought murugan ashwin, who is decent legspinner with excellent googly.

We were talking about Different Chahal who is picked by MI. RCB and kholi can only dream about touching ipl trophy let alone win it for three times.

That's rahul chahar not chahal bowls very similar to imran tahir,Decent pic in my opinion.

He has potential but Wankhede is really unforgiving ground and other teams always target the weak link in the attack.

Don't think so, unless they were playing their home match in a diff location.

BCCI approves use of DRS in IPL 2018

In a quest to make the sport error-free and impartial, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have decided to introduce the DRS (Decision Review System) in the upcoming edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) which starts on April 7. The decision has been taken after plenty of thought as the Indian board had earlier maintained a very hard stand on the use of the referral system. BCCI had held onto their stubborn stance against the referral system, insisting and reiterating that it wasn’t foolproof.

“The BCCI was keen to have DRS on board since quite some time but it was only this year we felt we should go ahead with it for the IPL. We have the best of all other systems in place, so why not DRS? Anyway, we have been using it for India’s international matches for over a year and a half now,” a report in Indian Express quoted a BCCI official.

One of the most lucrative and entertaining cricket leagues in the world - IPL has completed its 10 years and is on its way to embark a new beginning with its 11th edition. The upcoming season of IPL will be the first occasion where the DRS will be put to use. With this, IPL is set to become the second major T20 league to make use of DRS after the Pakistan Super League.

It was during England's tour of India in late 2016 when BCCI finally mended their ties and agreed on the use of decision review system in cricket's purest format.

The report further added that in last December the board had shortlisted 10 domestic umpires who will be officiating in IPL for a session on the use of new technology in Vizag. Denis Burns, the ICC umpires’ coach and former Australian pacer-turned umpire Paul Reiffel had flown in to brief the umpires about the technology.

"Indian domestic cricket doesn’t use the DRS system till date. As local umpires are being hired for the IPL, the board had called us to be briefed about the system. We were told that the board will be using DRS in IPL and they wanted us to get used to the technology," said one of the domestic umpires who attended the session.

Robin Uthappa did the job previously. So i had a feeling they would go that way.

Robin is getting fatter and older. He has already given up keeping in domestics as his new domestic team saurashtra already had established keeper.

And they brought Karthik as a specialist keeper ?? lol

It may be hard to believe on PP but Karthik is among top Indian wk batsman at this moment. but I agree with you. It may have been smarter to invest in long term and potentially India player instead of a ttf. Like Mumbai and Delhi have done.

His only saving grace was not so bad batting. And that too has regressed. And how on earth did he cost that much amount !! . Even a fat Uthappa add more value to the team.

Cost is relative in any auction.

IPL TEAMS TO GET RS 250 CR A YEAR FROM BCCI

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has assured the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises of a whopping share of Rs 250 crore a year from the central revenue. The money is almost a four-fold increase for the teams which were earning, on an average, Rs 60 crore a year during the previous 10-year cycle.

This message was conveyed to the franchises during the recent IPL workshop in the city. The reason for the jump is obvious: the mega Rs 16,347 crore media rights deal the BCCI had signed with Star Sports for a five-year period last year.

The deal itself was a 400 per cent jump in income from television rights for the BCCI as Sony, the previous broadcaster, was playing about Rs 800 crore a year. Now Star will pay close to Rs 3200 crore per season.

The BCCI also has a Rs 2000-crore title sponsorship deal with Vivo and there are few associate sponsors like Ceat Tyres, which will be sponsoring the strategic breaks. Income from this will also go to the franchise share.

The teams, however, will not be without liability. Having paid the required 10 instalments as franchise fee, the teams will now have to shell out 20 per cent of their annual income to the BCCI.

The income from the central revenue will also be counted as part of the yearly income. The other sources of income for the franchises are gate collection, jersey sponsorship, in-stadia hoardings and merchandising.

Star pays first instalment

Meanwhile, it has been learnt that Star has paid the first instalment of Rs 2500 crore to the BCCI. As mentioned earlier, the broadcaster has to pay close to Rs 3200 crore a year. The rest of the money will be paid after the end of the season in May.

Streak joins KKR

Kolkata Knight Riders have roped in Heath Streak as their bowling coach. The former Zimbabwe captain’s appointment was necessitated as Kolkata’s bowling coach of last year, Laxmipathy Balaji, has returned to Chennai Super Kings. Besides, the team’s original bowling coach, Wasim Akram, cannot take up the assignment because of continued diplomatic tension between India and Pakistan. Streak was the bowling coach of Gujarat Lions in their two-year existence.

Really need Junaids to explain us how the BCCI is able to pay off USD 300 million to franchises EACH season, million dollar salaries to top 30 male cricketers, offer USD 100K contracts to its female cricketers (unheard of even in Aus/England) but depend on ICC welfare handout to pay its domestic cricketers. Domestic cricketers who, BTW, stand to earn as much as many international cricketers from SL/BD/Pak - and this is without taking their IPL earnings into account.

Should BCCI pay them or they pay to BCCI.
Ek dou crore hamey bhi daedo life set hojaaye gee

Franchises bid and paid BCCI for the right to have a team in IPL. They paid BCCI huge sums for this right in the hope that the league would earn them money going forward besides cashing in on the immense publicity their brands would enjoy.

In return, the BCCI pays them a share of the total pie from broadcast and sponsorship rights. This total amounts to approx USD 575 million each year. Franchises get USD 300 million and then rest is BCCI profit. To compare, the ICC would pay BCCI USD 400 million over 8 years.

How much do the domestic cricketers make?

Approx 12-13 lakhs per annum.

I don't think this figure is right, apart from this the match fees was doubled just few days back when BCCI announced many new contracts for the senior Indian team cricketjoshila

How much do the domestic cricketers make?

3 lacs (approx USD 5K) per FC match. The fee would be lower for domestic one day matches, of course. So domestic regulars who play a full season of domestic cricket would stand to earn between a minimum of 24 lacs (USD 40K) to 45 lacs (USD 75K).

Try 24-45 lacs.

This pro-rata payment depends on BCCI’s variable annual income but on an average a Ranji Trophy regular, who also plays shorter-version domestic competitions, earns Rs 12-15 lakh a year as match fees.

No, the BCCI has created a corpus specifically to ensure domestic players are not affected by fluctuations in BCCI revenue.

Fees have been increased to 1.4 lacs for a FC match plus share of revenue which brings the total to 3 lac per match. A domestic regular who plays between 12-15 matches in a season would stand to make between 36-46 lacs.
