Is Bangladesh the best Asian ODI side after India?

Why r we even comparing Bangladesh and Pak. Bangladesh should be compared with newzealand or srilanka now. Pak is currently way behind Bangladesh in limited overs Cricket. Pakistan's current competition is with Zimbabwe and westindies, not Bangladesh.

The fans said "obviously" Bangladesh which is different from "waayyyy better ". The issue is that you are trying to overexaggerate the general opinion to suggest that Bangladeshis are "delusional". While some are, but they are minority. The rest feels Bangladesh is better but not by a large margin. The opinion of neutral fans are pretty much the same.

Well, Malik has been performing really well since 2015. He has been averaging almost 60 with the bat in limited overs Cricket for last couple of years. His bowling is just an added bonus. I would take him in my team.

Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are equally bad and will be smashed out of this CT quite comprehensively. 'Much better', 'way better' or even 'better' are useless terms since Bangladesh hasn't achieved much since those three series' wins to prove any of those terms true.

Lets see who does the best in CT and then we can have a better picture.

Trying hard to find reasons that suggest this Pakistan team is better than Bangladesh.

Batting? Nah.
Bowling? Maybe but still arguable. (I would take Banglas bowling)
Fielding? Both are awful
Recent results? Bangladesh way ahead
Captaincy? Mashrafe definitely

Can't find any. Either we can say Bangladesh is better or take it as a stalemate. Can't say Pakistan is better based on anything other than groundless chauvinism.

Bro they have beaten Ireland and NZ B team recently which Pak can only dream of. They are definitely way better than Pak.
They have also won series against Afg and Zim recently in their home which is a big big achievement. When they went out of their home, they were flattened by NZ and drawn the series against SL. But yeah logic doesn't work, speculation does. They are indeed way better than Pak and SL.

For so long BD had been pakistans punching bag but their better policies , good cricketing structure and trusting their young players have made bangladesh a lot superior team than pakistan. Kudos to BCB and if anything PCB can do is to follow how bangladesh became the team they are today.

Bangladesh will win 7 out of 10 games against pakistan.

So it's 5:5 for Pakistan and Bangladesh. That's what rankings tell us as well with only 2 points difference between both teams. Bangladesh are has had better results of late, but Pakistan can beat any team including Australia/India/England/South Africa on their day, but the same can't be said for Bangladesh.
 
Both are equal in my opinion bit in few years Bangladesh will leave behind pak.
Batting wise Bangladesh is better their fielding is not that bad either equal to pakistan's .Bowling wise pak is better only mustafiz is better and he too is equal to amir.Other Bangladesh bowlers don't inspire much confidence.

Bangladesh actually won a series against India and South Africa. Also beat England a single match in a 3 match series

Some posters are so fragile and sensitive..... they just can't tolerate and digest the fact that Bangladesh at the moment is a better ODI team than Pakistan. Whenever any Bangladesh makes arguments they just give up and conclude saying that they don't like Bangladesh fans ,Bangladesh fans are worst blah blah....Very silly and really childish.Please grow up be mature.

Can beat any team on their day...this is such a silly statement .When a team wins its their day, when they loose its not! Is it such simple ! Its a professional game, any team has to earn their day,not a mere coincidence. Bangladesh beat England twice in world cup, once in their den,once in England's den.Bangladesh whitewashed South Africa,beat once in world cup.These all wins were earned by Bangladesh, not a gift of "their own day".In that way of "one's own day " even Afghanistan can beat South Africa or Australia.

Inclusion of Abbas,Fahim and ecclusion of Wahab was a positive move.But return of Shehzad,Hafeez has neutralized it.I am still not convinced by the selection.

Potentially yes.

Effectively, in a year time, if Sir Haq is still in charge, PAK ODI team might look like -
Azhar, Ahmed, MoHa (C), Babar, Malik, Sarfraz (W), Umar, Imad, Amir, Hasan, Wahab. And, the coach is Moin Khan ......................

Can you show me any point in Bangladesh's history where they have won an away series against a big team in ODIs??? You say you beat India and South Africa, well we beat them in AWAY series....

If you say that ''Bangladesh is a better test team than Pakistan'' then of course I will point the results in the past 16 years where Pakistan has beaten all the big teams and Bangladesh has won no match away against a big team..... Are you going to say ''when was this''??
 
First I'll frame this by saying I am a New Zealand fan so I'm neutral in this.

The answer is yes, Bangladesh is the second best asian ODI team. All you have to do is check the results. The best way to compare teams is to compare the personnel and to compare what statements the teams have managed to make.

As far as personnel go, Bangladesh clearly has the stronger batting unit. They also have the best spinner of the two teams and the best seamer. I rate the support bowlers for Pakistan as better and the wicket keepers about even. Shakib is the best all-rounder between the two teams but if you wanted to add more all-rounders to a combined team you would add the Pakistani all-rounders.

My combined team would look like this

Tamim
Sarkar
Azam
Mahmudullah
Shakib
Malik
Mushfiqur+
Imad
Mortaza*
Amir
Fizz

Both Mahmudullah and Malik would be under pressure to consistently perform to keep Sabbir/Haris/Mossadek out of the team.

As far as statements go if we include the 15' world cup these are the biggest statements each team has made.

Pak

Home series white wash over WI
Away series victory over SL


Bang

World cup quarterfinalist
Home series victory over India (Big Statement)
Home series victory over South Africa (Big Statement)
Home series white wash over Pakistan (Big Statement)

Clearly from this Bangladesh has made the bigger statements with their recent opportunities. Both teams have had their low lights but Bangladeshes highlights have been much, much better.

I was tempted to give credit to Pak's home whitewash over WI as a big statement but WI are rubbish and it would make a home whitewash over WI seem as big an accomplishment as Bang's home white wash over Pak when I rate Pak as clearly better then WI without all their stars. This is clear due to 5-1 head to head results. If WI had all their stars they would probably be ahead of both Pak and Bang but they don't so that is a moot point. I also rate Pakistans ability in Asia which is why I view Bangladesh's whitewash of them a big statement even if at home.

When discussing recent performance you talk about about performance in the last couple of years or so no what happened 4/5 years back with completely different setup.
 
Wow, what a turnaround it has been. Yeah it's a practise match and all that but still Bangladesh has done well in the game so far.
 
Bangladesh has played better OdI cricket than Pakistan and Lanka in past couple of years (with a reasonable sample size) and hence they are currently a better team.. not sure why it's so difficult to accept?

I should have added "subject to TTFs getting discarded" which is highly likely after a disastrous CT.
 
Asian Rankings for me

1) India
2) Bangaldesh
3) Sri Lanka
4) Pakistan
5) Afghanistan
 
There should be no doubt. Bangladesh at the moment are well ahead and would beat Pakistan 4/5 times.
 
This is very unfortunate from Bangladesh, even though Pakistan singlehandedly lobbied for their test status successfully.
 
I think it was pretty evident regardless of the result of the current practice match (with a 40m boundary).

Bangladesh batting wise has some quality batsmen.

Tamim Soumya to open
Sabbir Mushy at 3/4
Shakib Mosaddek and Riad in the middle order

Now all our young guns have a SR of 95+ and I am not joking.

The other 4 in recent times have had a good strike rate and good average too barring Shakib whose ODI Batting has dipped.

However not only batting but bowling wise we are better right now. We have the Fizz factor

Bangali fans were jumping up and down over winning a warm up match played on small boundaries even before the match was over, which they actually ended up losing..... They were all ready to make fun of Pakistan on this thread :))

No knives will be out because Pakistan doesn't care about winning warm up matches against minnows.....

That's the difference in aukat between Pakistan and Bangladesh....
 
Is it weird that, unlike the minnow fans who were celebrating before the match was over, I don't feel any joy at winning this???
 
Wish Bangladesh would have won the warm-up.... It obviously meant the world to them as they were celebrating and jumping up and down.... Now all Bangali fans have disappeared from the forum :'(

Just a practice match guys don't take it too seriously. We didn't play Rubel Fizz and Sabbir today. They will feature in our main XI.

Minnow level performance. This team deserved it especially when useless passenger like Mashrafe is its captain.
 
This defeat could dent BD's confidence badly.

It's just a practice match, but still BD let a noob own them badly. Not just own them, but destroyed completely.

This was an inning that can take Pak deep into the tournament and take BD straight to the airport.
 
This was a practice match but there was some confidence and momentum that Bangladesh could have carried through to the main tournament however now after this yet another shocking defeat, I bet the Bangladesh camp is feeling low and that will have its effect during the main tournament.

I always believed that Mashrafe is the weakest player in the team.
A mediocre bowler and a pathetic batsman and a bad fielder. He is a poor man's Jason Holder.

BD should get another player to replace Mashrafe if they want to win more consistently.
 
Regardless of the result,I am impressed with Bangladesh's performance.Their team comprises of talented and promising youngsters.
Leave Pakistan,they can even beat India on their day.

We were never serious about the warm up match but looking at these posts I'm getting a lot happier. The hapless Bangladesh team deserved a brutal spanking they rightly received.
 
Bangladesh is way better than this Pakistan side. Rem Bangladesh didn't play their best player it blowers or batsman.

Had Bangladesh one they would have been celebrating here and rubbing it in the face of PP posters. And eventhough Im really happy Pak chased down 340 and we found a great new lower order hitter this win doesnt feel that significant to me personally. We still have real tough teams to beat ahead

its only a practice game...mashrafee bowled at the death whereas Fizz, Taskin, and Rubel are all specialists for the final over.

remember Zimbabwe thrashed NZ in NZ during warm ups for 2015 WC and then lost every game even to associates and just barely scrapped past UAE in the real matches.

aussies barely beat SL yestaerday...is SL almost as good as AUS???

He's not only a rubbish player but also a rubbish captain. He always selects his favourite buddies in the squad. But still he is the favourite player of most Bangladeshis.

U'd be surprised to know the number of Bangladeshi fans who what him to play for Bangladesh till 2019 world cup :facepalm:

Yes, it is only a practice game and I always maintained that even Pakistan team was not serious about it. How do you think reactions from Bangla posters would have been had they won the game? They were ready to dish it out. Check out some of the above replies.

Difference is Aus didn't play Starc, Smith. Both sides today had key players missing yet Pak came out on top. Be humble good sir! Also Taskin was bowling near the death overs but was getting walloped :)))

Pakistan has a lot to worry about. Both team bowled absolutely rubbish today. Pak shouldn't expect to face a bowler like useless Mashrafe in the main event.

I am sure their far superior win-loss ratio and comfortable ranking lead also plays a part.

Yes, we love him and there are a very strong reason for this.We are 6th in ODI ranking and our captain is a main mentor behind it.He is a fighter and inshaAllah he will come back hard.
