So I pointed out that there was smoke, and hence an investigation. There had to be some evidence for there to be investigations and the fact that in 2016 the US intelligence agencies "concluded that Russia was behind an effort to tip the scales". So there was something.

Recount in Wisconsin county demanded by Trump increases Biden's margin

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A recount in Wisconsin’s largest county demanded by Republican President Donald Trump’s election campaign ended Friday with Democratic President-elect Joe Biden gaining votes.

After the recount in Milwaukee County, Biden had a net gain of 132 votes, out of nearly 460,000 cast. Overall, Biden gained 257 votes to Trump’s 125.

Trump’s campaign had demanded recounts in two of Wisconsin’s most populous and Democratic-leaning counties, after losing Wisconsin to Biden by over 20,000 votes. The two recounts will cost the Trump campaign $3 million. Dane County is expected to finish its recount on Sunday.

Overall, Biden won the Nov. 3 U.S. presidential election with 306 Electoral College votes - many more than the 270 needed for victory - to Trump’s 232. Biden also leads by more than six million in the popular vote tally.

After the recount ended, Milwaukee County Clerk George Christenson said: “The recount demonstrates what we already know: that elections in Milwaukee County are fair, transparent, accurate and secure.”

The Trump campaign is still expected to mount a legal challenge to the overall result in Wisconsin, but time is running out. The state is due to certify its presidential result on Tuesday.

Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson says armed demonstrators gathered outside her home to protest against alleged election fraud.

She said "dozens" of people arrived at her home on Saturday evening as she was putting up Christmas decorations with her son.

Protesters shouted "stop the steal!", echoing claims of voter fraud made by President Donald Trump.

Attorney General William Barr has said there is no proof to back these claims.

Ms Benson has joined a growing number of government and election officials targeted by protesters this year over the 2020 election.

In a statement posted to Twitter on Sunday, Ms Benson, a Democrat, said that protesters made "unambiguous, loud and threatening" demands outside her Detroit home to overturn the state's election results.

Michigan last month certified its results, declaring Democrat Joe Biden the winner of the state's 16 electoral votes.

Part of the demonstration was streamed live on Facebook.

"We are not standing down, we are not giving up, you are not going to take this election from a man that has earned it completely 100% by a freaking landslide," said Genevieve Peters, who posted the video.

Police responded to a public disturbance call around 21:50 EST (01:50 GMT), local media said, and the crowd dispersed shortly after. A local police chief said he also thought some of them were armed.

No arrests were made. It is not a crime to carry a firearm in Michigan, as long as the weapon is legally owned and not concealed.

In a statement, Michigan's Attorney General Dana Nessel and Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy described the incident as "disturbing behaviour masquerading as protest".

"Anyone can air legitimate grievances to Secretary Benson's office through civil and democratic means, but terrorising children and families at their own homes is not activism," they said.

In her own statement, Ms Benson appeared to tie the protest outside her home to ongoing efforts by Mr Trump and his legal team to overturn the results of the presidential election - citing "purely political legislative hearings" and "bogus legal claims".

Mr Trump has so far refused to concede the election and has launched a series of legal challenges alleging, without evidence, that Mr Biden's win was the result of fraud.

Last week an election official in Georgia, Gabriel Sterling, warned that President Trump was inciting violence, citing death threats made to staff.

In Arizona, Secretary of State Katie Hobbs said last month that her family had received "utterly abhorrent threats".

Georgia declares Biden winner for a third time

For a third time, Joe Biden has been declared the winner of Georgia's presidential election.

A final tally announced by Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger showed that Mr Biden won the normally Republican stronghold by under 12,000 votes.

The state carried out a second recount of the 3 November vote following challenges from President Trump's team.

Mr Raffensperger, a Republican, warned that debunked claims about voting fraud were "hurting our state".

President Trump continues to refuse to accept defeat in the vote, alleging, without evidence, there has been widespread fraud.

"We have now counted legally cast ballots three times, and the results remain unchanged," Mr Raffensperger said at a news conference from Atlanta on Monday.

"I know there are people that are convinced the election was fraught with problems, but the evidence, the actual evidence, the facts tell us a different story," he continued.

Mr Trump has failed to make significant headway in his legal challenges to the vote, which have been issued in several battleground states.

The third declaration of Mr Biden's victory comes two days after Mr Trump travelled to the state to hold a rally for Republican senate candidates, but spent much of his visit attacking the state's governor for not doing more to aid his legal challenges.

On Monday, federal judges in Georgia and Michigan dismissed more lawsuits brought by the Trump campaign.

The lawsuit in Georgia, which was brought by Trump ally Sidney Powell, had been dubbed the "Kraken" lawsuit after the former-Trump campaign lawyer threatened to release the mythical sea monster on the state's electoral system.

But Mr Raffensperger said "the claims in the Kraken lawsuit prove to be as mythological as the creature for which they're named.

"Georgians can now move forward knowing that their votes, and only their legal votes, were counted accurately, fairly, and reliably."

Georgia's announcement comes one day before the deadline for Congress to give its official seal of approval to results already certified by each state.

The date, known as Safe Harbor Day, effectively makes it much harder for members of congress to later challenge the results submitted by each state.

Mr Biden won the presidential election with 306 votes in the electoral college - the system the US uses to elect a president - to Mr Trump's 232. The college will meet on 14 December to formalise the outcome.

The US Supreme Court has rejected a challenge against President-elect Joe Biden's victory in Pennsylvania.

Republicans in the state wanted to overturn certification of the result, but justices rejected the request in a one sentence ruling.

It is a blow to President Donald Trump, who has previously suggested without evidence that the election result would be settled in the Supreme Court.

Mr Trump lost his bid for re-election last month.

Since then he and his supporters have launched dozens of lawsuits questioning the vote results. None have come close to overturning Mr Biden's victory.

The Democratic candidate defeated Mr Trump by a margin of 306 to 232 votes in the US electoral college, which chooses the US president. Mr Biden won seven million more votes than the president nationwide.

Pennsylvania's Governor Tom Wolf has already certified Mr Biden's victory in the state. Under the rules of the electoral college, the state's 20 electors will meet on 14 December to officially cast their votes for the president-elect.

The lawsuit, filed this week by the state of Texas, sought to invalidate results in Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

President-elect Joe Biden won all four.

The lawsuit was supported by 19 state attorneys general and 127 Republican members of Congress.

But the Supreme Court ruled on Friday that Texas did not have legal standing to bring the case, in a brief order rejecting the bid.

"Texas has not demonstrated a judicially cognisable interest in the manner in which another state conducts its elections," the court said.

The ruling represents a setback for Mr Trump, who has previously suggested without evidence that the result of November's presidential election would be settled in the Supreme Court.

Well I have many US friends and on Election night I was chatting with them and all of them were shouting election fraud even before Trump lost. Trump was leading the big electoral States like Pennsylvania and Missipi along with Georgia and they were telling me that it will turn overnight and it did. Thousands of Donald Trump supporters alleging electoral fraud converged on several US cities and towns on Saturday and there were isolated scuffles with counter-demonstrators.

In Washington DC, more than 20 people were arrested and four people were stabbed, police said.

Mr Trump lost the 3 November election to Joe Biden but is yet to concede.

The Electoral College, the system which elects US presidents, is due to endorse Mr Biden's victory on Monday.

Mr Biden won 306 votes to Mr Trump's 232 in the Electoral College, and gained over seven million more votes than his Republican rival in the popular vote.

In the nation's capital, police sought to keep the two sides apart, a strategy that included sealing off Black Lives Matter Plaza where counter-demonstrators had gathered.

Pro-Trump demonstrators, rallying under the banner of "Stop the Steal", were joined by members of the far-right Proud Boys, dressed in yellow and black, many wearing bullet-proof vests.

Mr Trump caused controversy by saying the group should "stand back and stand by" during a September presidential debate, though he later condemned "all white supremacists".

Joe Biden says 'will of people prevailed' after victory confirmed

Joe Biden has said the "will of the people prevailed" after his presidential election victory was confirmed by the US electoral college.

In a speech after the announcement, he said the US democracy had been "pushed, tested and threatened" and "proved to be resilient, true and strong".

The confirmation was one of the final steps required for Mr Biden to take office, on 20 January.

President Donald Trump is not expected to accept the result.

Mr Biden won November's contest with 306 electoral college votes to Republican Donald Trump's 232.

Under the US system, voters actually cast their ballots for "electors", who in turn, formally vote for candidates weeks after the election.

Speaking in Delaware, Mr Biden made references to the president's repeated attempts to challenge the result with unsubstantiated claims of fraud, praising "ordinary men and women" who had refused to be bullied.

"The flame of democracy was lit in this nation a long time ago," he said. "And we know that nothing not even a pandemic or an abuse of power can extinguish that flame."

Senators in final bid to derail certification of Biden's victory

A group of US senators say they will refuse to certify Joe Biden's election victory unless a commission is set up to investigate alleged voter fraud.

The 11 senators and senators-elect, led by Ted Cruz, want a 10-day delay to audit the unsubstantiated allegations.

The move is not expected to succeed as most senators are expected to endorse Mr Biden in the 6 January vote.

President Donald Trump has refused to concede, repeatedly alleging fraud without providing any evidence.

His legal efforts to overturn results have been rejected by the courts.

The US Electoral College - which confirmed November's presidential election result by awarding points for each state won by the two White House rivals - last month cemented Mr Biden's victory over Mr Trump by 306-232.

These votes must be affirmed by Congress on 6 January. Inauguration Day, when the new Democratic president and vice-president are sworn in, will be on 20 January.

What do Trump allies want?

In a statement, the 11 senators led by Texas senator Ted Cruz said November's election had "featured unprecedented allegations of voter fraud, violations and lax enforcement of election law, and other voting irregularities".

Citing a precedent from 1877 - when a bi-partisan committee was formed to investigate after both parties claimed victory in three states - they urged Congress to appoint a commission for an "emergency 10-day audit of election returns in the disputed states".

"Once completed, individual states would evaluate the commission's findings and could convene a special legislative session to certify a change in their vote, if needed," they said.

However they said their bid was unlikely to succeed. "We are not naïve. We fully expect most if not all Democrats, and perhaps more than a few Republicans, to vote otherwise," they said.

Their move is separate from that of Missouri Senator Josh Hawley, who has also said he will reject the Electoral College result over election integrity concerns.

A group of Republicans in the lower chamber of Congress, the House of Representatives, is also planning to contest the election results.

US President Donald Trump has been recorded telling Georgia's top election official to "find" enough votes to overturn the election result.

"I just want to find 11,780 votes," Mr Trump told Republican Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger in a recording released by the Washington Post.

Mr Raffensperger is heard replying that Georgia's results are correct.

Joe Biden won Georgia alongside other swing states, winning 306 electoral college votes to Mr Trump's 232.

Vice-President-elect Kamala Harris called Mr Trump's comments "a bold abuse of power".

It comes ahead of two crucial runoff elections in Georgia on Tuesday that will decide which party controls the Senate.

Since the 3 November vote, Mr Trump has been making unsubstantiated allegations of widespread electoral fraud.

Congress is due to formally approve the election result on 6 January and Mr Biden, a Democrat, is due to be inaugurated as president on 20 January.

US lawmakers are set to meet on Wednesday to confirm Joe Biden's victory in the presidential election amid protests from Trump supporters.

A joint session of Congress will count and confirm electoral college votes.

Some Republicans have pledged to support President Donald Trump's efforts to overturn the result by formally objecting at the session, in a bid that is almost certain to fail.

Hundreds of National Guard members are being mobilised.

Supporters of Mr Trump have begun gathering in Washington DC to rally against the certification of his defeat, and counter-protests are expected.

In a tweet on Tuesday, Mr Trump announced that he would be speaking at the "Save America Rally" the following day.

The president urged crowds to march towards the White House after his speech, where Congress will soon be verifying the November election result.

He said: "We're going to walk down and cheer on our brave Congressmen and women."
