Is this the most humble and down to earth cricket team in Pakistan's history?

Have been noticing for the past few years apart from one or two occassions I don't think I have seen any arrogance from Pakistani players. This is the most likeable team from Pakistan. Guys like Rizwan, Babar or even Zaman show no arrogance at all and looks quite humble. Only Hasan goes OTT sometimes but he too stays in his limit. May be this is why Pakistan has been involved in less controversies lately. I can now put both NZ and Pakistan in the same category. :inti

Arrogance usually comes with stardom and when you become a big brand. This is why the likes of Afridi, Akhtar, Imran, Wasim etc. had a bit of cockiness about them.

This current lot do not have that star quality. It might happen for someone like Babar in the future though.

Genuine question. Why do people think NZ is the most down to earth team in world cricket?

Because they don't sledge? If so, people haven't watched all of NZ's games I think.

New Zealand players have built up a reputation of being the nice guys, and now they have to maintain that reputation. It is all an act.

And this act does pay off as well. Williamson getting the player of the tournament in the 2019 World Cup out of pity was a joke really.

Everyone knew that Stokes was by far the best player of the World Cup and should have been declared the man of the tournament.

I hope they don't walk in the ground thinking they have an aura around them!

Haha, good one.

Anyways, when a team looks so good in all the matches, things sometimes come crashing down in a knock out match. But so far so good.

This is without a doubt, the most professional Pakistan team that I have seen.

Babar, Rizwan and Shaheen are world class cricketers but they are completely professional in the way they play the game.

Rizwan is genuinely humble and down to earth irrespective of his performances on the field and a true team-man.

Babar has an air of quiet confidence about him. He's not a show pony and as of now, his batting form is also keeping the Pakistani media vultures at bay. He has a lot of haters within the Pakistani media community who are just waiting to pounce on him and hopefully these vultures won't get anything to harp on about for a very long time for Pakistan's sake.

Fakhar is an introvert and someone who's really uncomfortable in the limelight.

Hafeez and Malik are people who know how to manage their image. We will see their true colors once they have retired but for now, they seem happy, and I'm hoping that once they move to media, they will continue to still be the same people that they are now instead of slating their former teammates mercilessly.

The fast bowlers are also very down-to-earth and not primadonnas like the ones we had in the past. It's also due to the fact that they haven't really seen fame and are probably very young but it could also be down to the fact that the cricketing culture that they have stepped in is different from the past Pakistani dressing rooms. There are also no captaincy aspirations for many of these youngsters which was a major bone of contention for many of our former greats. One player that I'd like to mention here is Dahani, once he makes it to the team, we will even become more likable because he's that sort of personality who makes people fall in love with the sport even if you end up at the wrong end of the result that you hoped for.

Hassan Ali for all his antics isn't really a disruptor in the team environment. Yes, he may say a thing or two against our arch-rivals every once in a while but he's not someone who will cause major dressing room issues from what I've heard so far. He was also highly praised by his domestic team when he captained them last year and really helped them gel as a team. He did have an issue with Y. Khan but having an issue with YK shouldn't be held against anyone in my opinion.

I hope that shows like "The Pavilion" become mainstream in Pakistan and more young players like Wahab Riaz, Shan Masood, Sana Mir, Hafeez (once he retires), step into the media roles so that we can move away from loose cannons like Akhtar, Rashid, the entire regional lobbies, and so on. The utter filth that our people have had to digest in the name of "expert analysis" has actually created a generation that has no know-how about the sport itself.

This team needs a lot of work and they will have a lot of bad days but as a fan, I am finally putting my heart out there and hoping that we won't get infuriating news from the players like lobbying, match/spot-fixing, and other shenanigans which we were so used to in the past.

MashAllah nazr na lagay in boys ko. Ameen.

They are a pretty humble bunch overall for sure. To be honest i'm not sure if it is entirely a good thing. I mean, yes, of course as humans we should all be humble and kind etc but I quite like having players who other teams hate.

In the current team I don't see us having any such player. Hasan Ali has his lame, childish immature celebration that he thinks is still cool even though it stopped being cool after the first time he did it. But I think that annoys me more than anyone else

Take Southee for example. He is not really someone who pops up in our mind when we think about fast bowlers who sledge - Starc, Anderson, Rabada or Hazlewood are usually the quicks when we think of chirpy aggressive sorta quicks. But Southee is actually as chirpy as the others if not more, but he generally tends to pass under the radar because NZ are known to be the nice guys of cricket. And then there are guys like Wagner and Jamieson who give more than their share of words at the batsman.

They are not humble or down to earth just because they portray that image to others. Shaheen is full of himself, so is Hassan and Shadab.

Harris Rauf will become a public speaker after this tournament if we win

Agreed. Shan Masood, in particular, has been fantastic. His inputs during Cricinfo's pre-match, innings break and post-match segments have illustrated that he has excellent insight into the game (incl. Pakistan's intricacies and domestic cricket) and also articulates his points quite well.

If by Rashid, you mean Rashid Latif, then I think it would be unfair to club him alongside Shoaib Akhtar. I used to have the exact same opinion until I watched some of his inputs on shows. He usually seems to focus on technicalities and stays reasonably away from sensationalizing topics. He also calls out other panellists when they are unfair and excessive in their criticism of current players. I think he's much better compared to some of the charlatans/pseudo-experts we have on those shows.

They are down to earth because they came into the team at a time when it was at its lowest in terms of performance and following. They have had little to no cricket at home.

In the early 2000s even the mediocre likes of Kamran Akmal would have a massive following, thats why when Shehzad and Umar Akmal came into the team 2008-09 they walked into a change room full of egos. Thankfully all those guys are gone now.

The only ones i see now are Hasan Ali and usman qadir, but 2/15 ain't so bad.

Fair point and I really respect your opinion on Rashid Latif. I used to watch "Game on hai" with him and Dr. Nauman but it never appealed to me so I stopped watching it. The banter was always cryptic and they used to switch opinions based on hindsight instead of ever providing anything concrete. The regional bias and the conspiracy theories were also a major turnoff for me.

"The Pavilion" is an eye-opener for me in terms of the cricketing show as it provides a great insight into the minds of these people and their opinions are pretty revealing of our cricketing situation. I won't judge it yet as we are riding a wave of positivity for now so it'll be interesting to see how the show shapes up when we don't do too well.

Shan Masood, Sana Mir, and Wahab are a revelation and I want them to have more media roles going forward.

Shaheen has a switch button but overall they are quite a down to earth team

Have to meet them in person only then can one judge their attitude.

I don't know about down to earth but definitely best behaved so far. No crazy media answer prior/post the India or Afghan game.

No issues so far with COVID, nightclubs, infighting etc etc.

Boy you leave no opportunity to downgrade your fellow countryman?

Complete rubbish
Williamson was the mvp. He completely deserved it for his batting + incredible captaincy.

In 2009 I think the ICC falsely made Dilshan the player of the tournament, whereas the winner should have been Shahid Afridi. Afridi probably didn’t deserve it in 2007 however

The most down to earth cricketers I have personally ever seen are the English players who represent England. Always respectful whenever you meet them. Will always say hi back to you if you say hi to them and they will come out of their way to sign autographs for children. Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow, Jos Butler in particular

I remember the 2010 England, Graeme Swann was a lovely man as well.

Imam ul Haq comes across as a bit of a Toss of a coiner if you know what I mean. I think Saj will probably know better of who is down to earth and respectful in comparison to who isn’t. Imad has a bit of flare about him but he makes a lot of sense when he talks. I dont really like Amir as he seems a bit snakey but the rest can be dealt with. So far Rauf has been in check also, which is surprising

Not really. For the English, it is easy to be polite and behave this way when they are more or less anonymous in their own country with the odd fan here and there asking for a autograph. Try being an indian cricketer in India where the fans keep stalking you 24/7 wherever you go. You have to learn to say 'No' if you want any private time.

Shadab and Hasan need to be kept in check. They seem to have a bit of snobby attitude.

Is Pak team really humble ? I saw them marching into the Namibian dressing room like they were the freaking Beatles.

Stokes had a far better tournament at an individual level than Williamson even if you factor in the latter’s captaincy, and it is not even debatable.

You compare their performance from match to match and it is comical to argue that Williamson deserved it more.

As far as his captaincy is concerned, his team qualified for the semifinal based on NRR. They had the same number of points as the team that were eliminated in the group. So much for great captaincy.

Everyone knows, including Williamson himself, that he was award the player of the tournament award out of pity. It was a compensation for the way New Zealand lost the final.

Had England won the final in normal circumstances or even if New Zealand would have won the final, Stokes would have been declared as the man of the tournament.

It was a charitable gesture by the panel to ensure that New Zealand and Williamson do not go home empty-handed after the circumstances in the final.

Is this opinion also based on the same analysis as the one regarding Rizwan’s bubble bursting when facing a “proper” bowling attack like India?

Williamson deserved the award purely based on the way NZ beat your team India in the SF. Totally worth it.

I definitely see your point, especially when they needlessly criticise players retrospectively and in hindsight. I never really watched "Game On Hai", but rather saw some of his videos on YouTube. It's quite likely that he spoke differently in those shows.

And I agree completely with the last bit. Azhar Ali is another person I'd add to the list. His positivity and knowledge about games in the past is something I particularly liked during his National T20 Cup stint.

This is the most humble Pakistani team in my lifetime. I think it has something to do with the fact cricket has changed. Cricket is now less about emotions and more about objectivity.

PCT plays hard cricket, but behaves true to the spirit of the Gentleman's game. It is pleasant to watch. I am becoming a fan of PCT.

There was nothing humble as tournament progressed. Pakistan got very overconfident and arrogant.

Why was shaheen imitating Indian dismissals in a different game? That looked very cringe worthy

In press conference still babar believed 175 was a good score and they will win. That's not good thinking if they went with that strategy

Looked like Indian and NZ game was their goal and they feel accomplished. You don't become a champion team thinking like that

lolwut :))

What's wrong with these Pakistani players. They achieve a little bit and think they're superstars. There's a history now of this kind of rubbish.

Despite all the IPL cringe moments, I can't recall too many moments where Indian cricketers have been disrespectful of the opposition if they haven't started it first. Forget the fan behaviour, think players.

This makes the thrashing Shaheen got yesterday even more memorable. I'm gonna watch it again.

Shaheen was mocking how he get wickets of Rohit ,Rahul and Virat .now look at yesterday picture of him IMG_20211112_173116.jpg
Moral of the story- Stay humble in your success.

^^

haha lol. He won't be forgetting this for a lonng time.

Rohit and co are gonna also feast on him the next time they meet. Better pull a hammy or something in advance.

Rohit Sharma should do less feasting and worry about losing weight first, maybe that’s why he struggles to move his legs from an in-swinger.

Yes just like Hasan ali, after CT he go at wagah border and do some idiotic thing but Rohit and dhawan destroyed him in Asia cup .

Some Indians here talking about how Pakistani cricketers won’t forget this and that, at least they didn’t make a promo before a home series against their arch rivals “aane do”, and end up get thumped afterwards. Now that’s something you cannot forget.

Indian players didn't do that. The fans and Bollywood have been disgraceful and they were taught a memorable lesson during CT 17.

We're talking of players while they're still playing.

It's not even 24 hours. Oooh the burn Shaeen must be still feeling.

And regarding your other Rohit comment. He already taught Amir a nice lesson. Watch what happens to Shaheen, if you dare :stokes

Maybe you can watch his memoriable inning of 140 against Pakistan in WC 19 .

The guy is seriously unfit now. Ofcourse it hardly takes a month to become a fat lazy potato that he is now and you are talking about a match that took place 2 years ago.

He is still best opener of all format at this moments .yes he has increased some weight still he is fit .

Indian players didn’t do what? Was it Priyanka Chopra who was in the aane do ads?

How do you know what Indian players have or haven’t done on the field? Do you have a camera on them whilst they’re playing?

I’m sure Shaheen will be fine, he’s got 10+ years to correct his mistakes, Sharma has 2 years to lose his fat, which is unlikely.

I think this Pakistani team is definitely humble, likeable, and composed. Something like Rizwans cool demeanour, Shaheens swag, and Babars calmness while batting is a positive force.

The only thing i dont like is old school. I haven’t followed the games body language too closely but having Malik & Hafeez is akin to having politicians who are diluting the innocence & purity of the youth.

Call me a skeptic, but all this gestures of Malik consoling Hassan is a sham, to cover his own shortcomings.

Hafeez also is definitely an eyesore when it comes to humility, and like-ability.

Rest all players seem sincere & focused

Good speech by Babar in the locker room at the end. The biggest issue after losses like this is our players blame and point fingers for months.

This will be another test to see if things have changed.

Yes I think now is the time to move on from Malik and Hafeez. Thanks for the service but time to move on.

Except for Hassan Ali. The guy should have been kicked out of the team when he had a fight with Younis Khan for refusing to take ice bath but younis had to resign.

Read the title of this thread carefully. This is about the most humble and down to earth cricket team in Pakistan's history. This is not about the most humble and down to earth team in the world. I know you and some other indian fans got offended but this is not about India. One or two little incidents won't make them arrogant especially when you compare them to the past Pakistani teams. :inti

I will get 10 wickets against India - Hasan ali
India scared to Play with pakistan - Sarfraz
Shaheen is latest

Have you forgotten Suresh Raina's disgraceful tweet in 2012 WT20....and an even more terrible excuse to try and cover it up

Maybe Rohit should deliver a career defining knock under pressure on the big stage. Always goes missing in pressure crunch games.

Videos circulating on twitter showing Sodhi making obscene gestures at pakistani fans after the super 12 match so.....

all that shaheen video shows is how sensitive some of the parosis have become, just a little banter with the fans

Pakistan under Misbah was the lowest of the low. Ameoba.

There's a tad more spine in current Pakistan team.

No it’s not, also why do they have to humble anyway, win tournaments no one cares about humility but the trophy cabinet.

hope you have the same attitude when someone mocks the 3 6’s he got hit for. May be not you personally but I have seen people on this forum itself be way more sensitive to a lot more lamer things.

its all fun and games, there are senti people on both sides esp on internet. as long as no one is being personal i think taking mick on both sides is healthy, it shows how much pak india games still mean to both teams and fans.

as they say the opposite of love isnt hate, its of not feeling any emotion. :srt

Most of the squad doesn't have close ties with any of the media, unlike some players of recent times and the past.

Did you notice there were no leaks regarding the team or any other information going out to the media during the T20 World Cup.

That can only be a good thing.

He is an Indian Punjabi, so you can’t compare him to the other Kiwi players.

I would nt be so harsh to call them obscene gestures.

if your talking about is him trying to sarcastically applaud ( what else can a player do within the bounds of being professional ) the Pakistani fans when they are bullying the NZ players themselves.

Definitely a good thing..factionalism has always been a thorn in our progress. Hoping this core stay tight knit and have a bright future.

The best thing about this thread are the Indians. You can tell that loss has been burning them badly. That they are now taking credit for a few fluke shots from an Aussie batsman.

Shaheen absolutely will be haunting them for years to come, especially the captain Rohit. :))

Shaheen was eventually battered last night & even kohli & surya bashed him for a coupla sixes.

Look, we do give credit where its due. He bowled great and hes top draw.

Thats all there is to it.

So what? If you are linking it to performances then there are many cricketers who have been put into place due to their arrogance. One such cricketer is Hardik Sobers Pandya. Most of our indian fans have got this thread completely wrong. It is a simple question. Let me repeat this again. Is the current Pak team the most humble and down to earth in Pakistan's history?

You guys are trying to compare it with India and getting hurt unnecessarily. It is about Pakistan team and you have to compare it with past Pakistan teams who were always involved in controversies. Posting pictures of Shaheen who was having fun with the crowd and then him not performing well shows the desperation.

Here is an example : How many times have we seen Kohli celebrating a wicket arrogantly and then not contributing anything with the bat? Does that mean he was put into place by the opposition? :inti

Have you see the video? Thats a p obscene gesture at the end, would you show him any empathy if he does that to you?

Just saw it, im sorry, he should be punished strongly.
I really thought he was a gentleman, im sad to see this

Lol make moronic chants at players and then get ****ed off when a player reacts. Irony is high on this one.

Reminds me of the time when a few Pakistani fans chanted "baap koun hai" at the Indian players going to their dressing room after the CT final loss and everyone ignored but Shami got angry. Players are humans too and don't expect everyone to react in the same way, not everyone will ignore the taunts and someone will obviously react because players do have emotions like us.

With every year, the standards change. When Kohli did this in Australia 2012, he barely got away.
Not acceptable today to do these

Players are public personalities and they are in the spotlight, onus is on them to not act like idiots. Sodhi crossed the line here.

There's no rule such as this. Are you saying Inzy was wrong to react to aloo chant? I would say there was nothing wrong in what he did. Players are humans too, they're not Mother Teresas.

Inzi was wrong. Sodhi is wrong. This is what-abouter and nothing else. Provoked or unprovoked, what Sodhi did was wrong. Period.
