Islamabad United 2017 Squad | Discussion Thread

Great win. People criticised Misbah for picking Irfan, Sami and Raees but so far this tournament, all three have bowled well.

They are playing youngsters. Hussain Tallat and Shadab both are playing. Misbah is actually supporting youngsters more than any other team
 
Should drop Raffatullah though.
I think they have Umar Siddiqui, Why not pick him?

However - I'm still concerned about lack of power hitting. NO ONE is there to hit the ball and take us to 180 - 200 scores!

Expected when your backbone breaks though.

Hoped that IU would finish last; But the oldies managed to make the playoffs. I wish they get knocked out ASAP.

I guarantee that this tournament isn't the last time you'll see Shadab and Talat. And if it is, then they weren't worth ur money in the first place.

Nicolas Pooran will be joining Islamabad United for the playoffs.

Ben Duckett will leave the squad after tonight's match.

Losing Sharj, Latif and Billings is a massive massive blow already. Ben Duckett, who wasn't doing any wonders is also gone now.

We can try and promote Shadab up the order - but don't think he'll score a lot of runs in his first few matches.

Very low chances of us getting to the finals. What do you think guys?

Need to promote Shadab up the order, Maybe open with Talat.

Drop Ajmal for good, He was the main reason to go down in the match. Gayle tore him apart.

Agree, the chucker shouldn't have been selected in the first place. Bad call by Misbah there.

We also need to get rid of Asif and that other guy from SNGPL. Maybe Imran?

Shadab has been timing it well so at #5 or #4 he might do well.

Ben Duckett might not be available, And they may bring in Pooran, For Ajmal I think Amad Butt should come in.

Watson,Smith,Shadab, and Talat. There is enough firepower there.

Ben Duckett travels back today to play for England Lions. 21 year old, Nicolas Pooran (WI) WK/Batsman coming in to replace him.
 
Backing United to win the PSL after Lahore are out. I was one of the firm haters of Isb before the tournament but they have unearthed some of the best talents in this year's PSL i.e Shadab and Talat.

All I know for sure is that if Karachi come to their senses and start playing Rahat then no man can stop them from winning the whole thing :rahat1

Misbah needs to click - although I don't have much hopes from him.

Yes I think promoting Shadab up the order might do the trick and then Pooran I guess well come in as well.

We need Watto to fire as well down the order.
 
Who's accountable for this farce this year?
Russel was banned but wasnt replaced, finn is not an all rounder and tvh was a waste of spot n money.
When sharjeel + latif were banned even then no adequate replacements were brought in.

We coukd have been unbeatable and number 1 if management didnt cock these things up
 
Hats off to ISLU team, Misbah, Deano, Wasim & Support staff for coming back after losing three big players right at the start of the tournament.

Their batting was gonna struggle without Sharjeel, Latif and Billings who were their most explosive players.

Still they've managed to unearth a gem in Shadab Khan. Would've liked to have seen more from Hussain Talat. Rumman Raees looks fitter and is a definite option for the national team in T20s.
 
Where is [MENTION=138670]The_KING[/MENTION] looks like the "fixers" "lucky wickets" set up the game beautifully for Karachi to blow away your oldie 11.
 
Another reason for Misbah to go to WI - had he played the PSL Final, may be he could have left in front of home crowd with a houseful send off ............. now, he needs to go to WI .......
 
Guys, like I said, the team is just too weak now and wouldn't be able to win 2 matches in a row.

We deserved this loss.

Sharjeel was the biggest loss; they could have survived Khalid's loss but not Sharjeel's
 
Always a soft corner in my heart for that gentleman called Misbah, always, and it felt bad to see Islamabad crash out yesterday in such a manner, being bowled out for mid-80s, but their campaign was always a hope against a hope. The loss of a match-winner and game-changer like Russell, a national star like Sharjeel, and then finally of the in-form Billings were three massive blows that could´ve derailed any, any team´s campaign. Ajmal´s bad form contributed further to the lack of options for them.

Despite all this, I´d very whole-heartedly congratulate Islamabad on making to the play-offs, especially on causing an all-time great choke on Quetta by one run in a game that looked so done already that I´d gone to call a friend with four overs to go!

Although I do think that their think-tank missed a trick yesterday on turning track like that. Badree, Imran Khalid as well as Ajmal should´ve been considered yesterday, but to my surprise they went in only with Shadab. Ajmal might be past his prime, but I think he´s still good enough for PSL at least. Anyway, in their favoured it can be argued that they still bowled out the opposition for just 126.

For the next season, they need to bring in a foreign replacement for Haddin, and arrange a pool of better foreign players to come in in case of an injury etc. Duckett and Pooran don´t seem like players to threaten the opposition. Haddin might´ve played a hand here or there, but he´s very inconsistent, mostly plays a very poor stroke to get out and is clearly not what he used to be perhaps.

Unless someone else switched from United to Zalmi as well, I will probably become the only person whose team has won both editions of the PSL. However, this record will be difficult to maintain because I'm Zalmi for life.

I deeply regret not supporting my home team from the start. I don't know what got into me, but I can't throw my winner's medal now just because I don't support United anymore.

Look im not try to pull leg here but isnt that the problem here. If Faisalabad was to get a team and say Misbah was to go there, would you still support Islamabad? You appear to be a fan of the Wolves in the FBT20, i wonder why?

Overall for me personally i just want to see good cricket, and good young players in PSL, my preference would be for ISU to win, but thats purely down to Islamabad being the city of my youth

i have always maintained that the reason i watch cricket is Misbah.

I stopped watching T20I after his retirement and also stopped watching ODI after he left.

I use to be a Pakistan cricket supporter, but i just loved watching Misbah captain the team. By watching him over the years, i have understood the way he selects his team, the way he goes for a target, the way he makes a strategic decision and all, and his decisions make sense.

I cannot bare to watch cricket without him as other players and the team doesnt interest me. Thus, i have seen many stupid mistakes been made.

For example, the Pakistan vs India World T20 2016 match. Afridi saab didn't select spinners even though we were playing in India(spin wickets). Nawaz and Imad arn't proper spinners of the ball.

its not like that.

its just interest.

I liked his captaincy, just how some people like Mcculums captaincy.

I liked the way he approached the game as a captain. His decision to go with the conditions rather then reputation.

His batting is what i loved the most.

Im not like an Afridite or Akmalist. Those guys will defend a 0(1) or a throw of a wicket. Misbah always performed and i never have to defend his bad innings, i did defended the fact that he should be allowed a 1-2 bad series if you take account all his performance.
I absolutely hated what he did in the last isloo match and made no comment regarding it.

most probably i will stop.

i think you have heard from your oldies aswell, meh sirf imran khan kay matches dekhta tha, jaab usnay cricket chori mehnay dekhni chordi.
i use to make fun of such people. I use to think, they are just lying, they were probably seasonal fans who only watched tournament cricket and thats it.

Now i understand how one could grow fond of ones way of playing cricket and leading a team and making deicisons
