Jaffna Stallions win the inaugural edition of Lanka Premier League (2020)

Ahsan Ali is an atttttttrocious fielder!

Hes become so fat as well!!

Gunathilika is so good. He can play all T20 leagues and should be Sri Lanka’s T20/one day opener for the long run. He is also a superb fielder.

High quality pro

He’s the guy who led Sri Lanka to beat us last year, people make fun of it for being a B team but Gunathilaka is genuinely good despite not being in that main team or a super known name.

He won man of the match in the first T20 and I reckon he’s better than the flops who keep letting Sri Lanka down year after year since Sanga retired.

Galle seems like they can win a game horrible season for them

Hoping next season they come better and select better players and prepare better

Galle once again lose.

They've been the whipping boys of the LPL so far.

State of the broadcast is terrible today, the amount of times it has cut out or lagged is making PSL look like a stellar production in comparison

PSL isn't a bad production to begin with, so I don't know where you are going with that. Maybe the National t20 would be a better comparison since production there was shaky at the start but got consistently better as the tournament progressed.

I am just comparing it to my experiences of watching PSL , especially the earlier editions, wrong graphics , crowd/stadium noise out of sync, cuts in broadcast as we are seeing in LPL. I didn't watch the national cup so i cannot comment on that. For the broadcasters that carry us like PRIME nd HUM this stuff is normal, but when it comes to SKY you expect a slightly higher standard which LPL is currently struggling with.

3/16 in 3 overs for Amir - excellent!

Out of those 5 wickets, 4 were taken in the last 3 overs with already 5 wickets down.

2 were of batsmen 3 were of bowlers.

So I would say decent figures.

Shoaib Malik batting well, not out on 43 at the moment.

sky need to do something about the broadcast, cutting out in the final overs when it could have gotten interesting , good to see shinwari still bottling it, hammered by Irfan Pathan at the end.

Galle Gladiators 61/1 (5/20 overs)

Good start for Galle, Ahsan Ali departed early for 5.

Schoolboy fielding, this is horrible to watch from Galle. Throwing away a game they had in the bag.

Amir coming in with 17 needed from 12 and 1 set batsmen at the crease. Let’s see what he can do.

Goes for 10 without a wicket. Not particularly great bowling, not particularly bad. A little disappointing. 7 needed from 6 balls now.

Are these games being monitored by Anti Corruption Unit? This is suspiciious

Extremely poor quality of cricket in this tournament. The fielding has been comical throughout.

Win or bust for Galle on Thursday as they face Kandy in the battle for the final play-off spot

This has to be the worst league going around looking at the batting, bowling and fielding standards.

What’s with the boundary size? Why do does these leagues have such small boundaries

I've not seen a great deal of this tournament, but how bad is the outfield.

I've played on some local parks that have a better outfield.

Galle Gladiators were fined 20 percent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate during its match against Dambulla Viiking, played on the 9th December 2020 at the MRICS, Hambantota of the ongoing Lanka Premier League Tournament.

The fine was imposed by Match Referee Wendell Labrooy, who found that Galle Gladiators was one over short of the target completion time after time allowances were taken into consideration.

In accordance with Article 2.23 of the LPL Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offenses, players are fined 20 percent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time.
Galle Gladiators Captain Bhanuka Rajapaksa pleaded guilty to the offense and accepted the proposed sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing.

On-field umpires Ruchira Palliyaguruge, Ravi Kottahachchi, TV umpire Lyndon Hannibal, and fourth umpire Hemantha Botheju levelled the charge.

HAMBANTOTA: The Pakistan’s ambassador in Sri Lanka Major General (R) Saad Khattak met the Pakistani contingent of Galle Gladiators at their team hotel on Thursday in Hambantota, Sri Lanka.

He inquired about the stay of the Pakistani players and officials and how the tour has gone so far in the country.

“It’s good to see Galle Gladiators represent Pakistan in Sri Lanka and Lanka Premier League (LPL) as people here love us and have always been very kind to Pakistanis,” Saad said.

“I wanted to meet all the Pakistani players and officials who have come here because you guys are our ambassadors. It’s always good to meet our own people and hopefully you guys will make the country proud.”

Galle Gladiators manager Azam Khan handed his excellency a little souvenir by presenting official merchandise of the team.

“It’s an honour for all members of our team that you have took out time just to meet us coming down all the way to Hambantota.
We would like to thank you on behalf of whole team and owner Nadeem Omar,” Azam said while addressing the ambassador.

His first two overs. But lol this match is pretty fishy, the batsman didn’t even run when the catch went high in the air, and fell in no man’s land. Didn’t even try to get off strike.

This match is fishy. Note Rajapaksa’s stumping, how he “adjusts” his gloves not once but twice for over a minute right before the delivery.

He then goes out of his crease by a very large margin to do nothing other than defend the ball, letting it whisk past to the keeper for a stumping.

The next ball, there’s a very dubious call for two where only one is clearly on - the run out batsman was only halfway down the wicket at the time of the ball being thrown to the keeper.

There have been certain “‘misfields” by the opposite team where the outfield man tries to catch the ball but ends up pushing it towards the boundary.

It’s hard to tell which bits are bad standard of cricket and which bits are suspicious. Sometimes it feels like one of those 90s games where both teams are doing their best to lose, I remember a famous Pakistan vs Australia game was like this.

If there was WinViz, it would have been 90% against Galle from overs 6-19.4, how they managed to win is beyond me. You should definitely catch the highlights as it was quite entertaining.

For sure when I get a chance will check highlights of Galle batting

Although I am happy their thru
One does have to feel for Colombo kings they were a strong team throughout the tourney
And gladiators were the whooping boys of the league just kept losing

They found to win a game or 2 and manage to make the semi finals and now their In the finals lol

The problem with a 5 team tourney is that it should not have a semi finals IMO it should simply be 1st place vs second place
Would seem more appropriate

However i am still happy gladiators are in the finals 😀

I think things started to turn around when Afridi left for personal reasons
