Jibran Nasir - Discussion Thread

I'm sure people of Karachi and indeed whole of Pakistan must be so proud of Jibran and his efforts. One of the real bright sparks of Pakistani society. Let's all work together and see him in power. His constituents in Karachi could not ask for a better man to lead them.

Jibran Nasir always takes lead and voices good opinions on such issues. He leads from front, and a very unselfish guy.

Hopefully he will win a seat in future inshallah

Why do you think he won't win? And do you think the alternative options are better? Interested in your thoughts.

You won't like the answer.

PTI or MQM will win, maybe outside chance JI.

PML-N absolutely no chance. PPP might get some votes but will come a distance third.

Voting for someone like Jibran who other than a few speeches doesn't have much in terms of agendas is a serious waste. What's even more wasteful is that he has no party, even if he wins he will be just one solitary guy in the National Assembly with no importance. On top of that Jibran's stature took a serious hit when he was opposing Ertugrul because it's foreign and then people made viral videos of him dancing to Indian songs at his wedding. Nobody likes a two-faced attention seeker.

Also Karachi is not some rural area where an independent candidate will win just on the basis of being the area's wadera or chaudry. Here politics is dominated by political parties.

No he won't.

anything is possible, in some areas of Karachi TLP came 2nd and third

An absolute legend! A man with strong morals. One of the few beacons of hope in Pakistan.

People have commented the guy is an opportunist where he is a master of coming on cameras for positive publicity. He is also known for bailing out of cases or episodes where a case is no longer faidamand for him. I have already seen one episode where this was true and where Waqar Zaka exposed him. Hence I reserve my judgment on the guy

No one in Karachi, outside of a few burgers are proud of him. majority of people in karachi have not even heard of him.

What constituents?????? He has lost every election in Karachi. He has zero constituents.

He never had much stature to begin with. He is either extremely oblivious to the country and city in which he lives. Or he is doing this knowing he will lose, but then he can make money by being the liberal Pakistani.

A legend? Losing ever election you ever contest by a landslide, makes you a legend?

Your arguments are very weak. Imran Khan also lost his first election by a landslide and so do many others who have later on become great leaders.

Losing an election is not a barometer for anything.

Yes Imran Khan lost his first election by a landslide. However no one called him a political legend after that. Instead he was mocked, and told to give up.

Care to explain how Jibran Nasir is a legend?

You need to look at his charitable work and how he has openly campaigned against terrorism despite the TTP phoning him and telling him that he is on their hit list. His best mate, Khurram Zaki, who also campaigned against Lal Masjid cleric, LeJ and TTP was shot dead four year back.

However, Jibran is still undeterred and continues to march against terrorism. Legend!

Jibran will fight the case of Arzoo, a 13 year old Christian girl who was abducted, then forcibly converted to Islam and married off to a 44 year old man. May Allah grant this man success!

I meet Jibran at a conference at Columbia Uni in march. Actually thats where i got the Virus. There was a massive outbreak at the event. Anyway he is an eloquent speaker. If that will turn it into votes, i dont know. I asked him that. He said his ultimate goal is to start a conversation of whats wrong with the pakistani society.

Unfortunately we prefer to have a leader who sends letters to Facebook instead of focusing on these issues.

Jibran Nasir, despite being just a bloody civilian, has done much more for minorities and the oppressed than Immy can ever dream of!

I listened to Immy for a decade and I really thought he would work for the downtrodden and the oppressed but he has been a massive disappointment.

I thought with an Oxford’s degree, he would promote tolerance and get rid of the menace of terrorism, forced conversions, destruction of minority places of worship but no, he does not have a spine! A proper hypocrite.

Immy tries day in and day out to please rightwingers and show that he is the best Muslim.

Jibrans once in a blue moon noble acts cannot make up for his 99 lifafa acts. He is not an impartial critic and has turned away cases where the victims really needed his help because wasn't going to get much publicity out of them

I'm so glad that every five years I get the opportunity to make Jibran lose elections because he runs from my area.

Sindh High Court orders police to recover Arzoo , place her in a shelter.

A good day for Pakistani minorities. All this made possible by the courageous Jibran Nasir.

Once again, Jibran has shown why he is one of the greatest Pakistanis ever!

Today, ASI Tariq has been sentenced to death for killing Maqsood in a fake police encounter in 2018.

After three years of threats and intimidation, Jibran has emerged victorious!

I wish to see Jibran as the PM of Pakistan in my lifetime.

Brings special joy to me to know that Jibby will never win even a councillor seat let alone be a MNA or MPA.

Karachi Press Club ready to settle row with civil society activist

KARACHI: The Karachi Press Club (KPC) was willing to resolve the controversy emanating from a dispute with a lawyer and civil society activist that resulted in imposition of a ban on his entry into the club, provided those representing the lawyer approach the KPC officials rather than using pressure tactics.

This was stated by KPC President Fazil Jamili about the outcry in civil society circles on the ban imposed on the lawyer, Jibran Nasir.

Talking to Dawn, Mr Jamili said: “The issue with Jibran Nasir could have been resolved earlier had Mr Nasir approached the KPC or just me, its president, to explain his side. We have our own grievances with him that he should also have had the patience to listen to just like I would have heard him out patiently.”

“The action taken by KPC over Jibran Nasir was done after listening to our members’ complaints regarding him. It was an issue that had to be addressed,” he said, adding: “We are also not happy about what happened. But instead of sitting down to resolve the matter, Mr Nasir has made it more complicated by dragging in the civil society, etc. If we had wanted, we could also have taken this issue to journalists’ unions to form our own pressure group, but things don’t get resolved like this.”

He recalled that the KPC had many times imposed restrictions on people including its own senior members, but those restrictions had also been reconsidered and lifted after the person in question apologised and explained his or her side.

Meanwhile, in a statement, civil society organisations stated that Advocate Nasir was a person of “strong integrity who has always upheld principles of truth and justice”.

“Press clubs are sites for democratic expression and debate for rightful causes. By gate keeping and excluding progressive voices of spokespeople for the disenfranchised, the KPC is turning into a ghetto of censorship and silencing of civil rights. The [KPC] president must revisit the principles of freedom and extend respect to citizens such as Jibran Nasir,” it said.

Also on Wednesday, the Sindh High Court Bar Association called upon the KPC to ask some of its members to confine themselves to “responsible reporting” and “desist from threatening advocates acting in the discharge of their professional duties”.

I wonder if ppl who were against the candidacy of JN are still staying with their initial position or has anything changed for them?

He has shown backbone and stood up for his beliefs. This is in contrast to all the fake Liberals who have been brought off by the Generals. At least we know who's criticism is genuine in the future although we may not agree with it
