What's new

Joe Root's 218 helps England reach 555/8 at Stumps on Day 2 in the 1st Test against India

They're not going to get a result here, may as well think the long game and break down their bowlers.
You never know. Indians can either collapse or bat fast enough to have a tricky second innings for England.

Wasn't really watching the match, but did the new ball swing?

And what's the pitch like, will it suit a quick like Jofra?

Smith probably would have. Warner always has a mistake or two in him. The rest of the Aussie batsmen are hopeless in australia let alone in India.

Based on one bad series?

Check out the returns of the so called hopeless batsmen a summer ago against NZ and Pak. I'm pretty sure these same hopeless batsmen will make merry (atleast at home) the next time around.

No really. One bad series doesn't change the fact that Australia are a better Test side than England and have won 6 while losing just 2 in their last 10 games against them. And one of those defeats was in once in a lifetime circumstance..

The same Heads and Burns and the Wades were piling runs against other teams...

Also asides from the fact that Head and Wade averaged high 20s and low 30s; the England side of 2017-18 ashes was very different. That was 3+ years ago.

What a borefest this is turning out to be! The whole series will be drawn. Only batsmen like Joe Root wishing to up their away averages will benefit.

Thank you BCCI :inti:

England 454-4 at Tea. i dont think they should declare today. No point tiring their bowlers on this pitch

Marnus would have hit a 150 on this wicket.
There are only two person who could have stopped the opposition team from scoring 500 on this wicket .

One is the opposition team batsmen and second one, I won't name him as he is not playing. Period!

:inti

Borefest? I’m fascinated by this match. This is attrition, England will try to break down India’s resolve and concentration and tire them and maybe get them out for not many. This is real cricket, not T20.

No contest between bat and ball. Boring to watch fir neutrals

Root passes Gatting and Jones to post the highest visiting innings at Chennai.

If Eng have wickets in hand should bat till lunch tomorrow too. Scoring all runs in first innings is Eng best chance to push for a win. Otherwise a draw awaits

Saying this after 1.5 days.... this pitch could turn into a minefield by 4th day. Also even if this peters out to a draw then I think india would be more likely to serve rank turners since india has to win by 2 Test margin to make the WTC Final.

Streaky four through the slips by Pope off Jasprit.

Kohli is such a pannauti, the guy was not around for three matches in Australia and we gave historical performances in all of them. Now he is back and opposition looks all set for 600+.

Lol not this again

We are not winning on rank turners without.....

This. Kohli is a panauti for us as captain in any format.

In last 2 years everyone became fans of test cricket because of sporting pitches and something that offers to both bat and ball. This is ridiculous to offer a pitch like this.
I would rate Root innings in Srilanka much more than this one!

Nadeem economy almost 4 rpo. This could well be his last test :sanga

Root masterclass continues... What a champion batsman!

5 Down!

Its borefests and pitches like this which kill test cricket .

True test cricket is where the pitch provides a good equilibrium between bat and ball .

Indian bowlers must be demoralised

Finally..... Pope gone.
Buttler is good against spin and they still have Bess who is no mug with the bat.

For all those complaining about the pitch, please reserve your judgement until India bats please, we might see a result in the game

A bad innings from pope, looks edgy and was too slow considering the pitch and context of the game.

For all those complaining about the pitch, please reserve your judgement until India bats please, we might see a result in the game

For all those optimistic about the pitch, please reserve your judgement until England bowls please, we might see the true nature of pitch

Yeah. As they say reserve your judgement about the pitch till the time both teams bat on that pitch.

However there is a chance that we may get buried under this mountain of runs and hence may not bat as well as England did who won the all important toss.

So this goes both ways.

Thats what I meant... Pressure can make batsmen play carelessly despite nature of pitch

Nadeem gets Root!

We won a test last time even after we conceded this many, 477!

Damn good decision. I thought it’s going easily leg but actually is gonna hit middle stump

I think we can wrap them under 550. They don't have Broad either to hurt us.

Root gone for 218. Brilliant knock, england need to get to 550 or 600 here still.

At this point they should look to hit out. The remaining batsmen don’t have it in them to just bat patiently for a long time so might as well get a move on.

People looking for cheap wickets in Pakistan match can come here, lot to look forward to here.

Worst thing is that next test too will be played here only.

Interesting to see English tactics hereon. If they are worried about Indian batting they will try to play out the day without pressing for quick runs

You guys have no patience lol.

Anyways checked schedule. /2 here then like 4-5 games straight in Ahmedabad. Why? covid precautions?

Is it? That could be why such a pitch has been prepared.

Lol yea I had to double check.

2 games here and then 7 games in Ahmedabad. So possibly 17 days or cricket in Ahmedabad in short time frame. I used to think pitches wear out after this many games lol. Ok

England will want us to bat for at least 6-7 overs before stumps.

Buttler needs to stay and marshall the tail, England should be aiming for 550+ and then hit Indian bats hard

Of course, its Covid!

Plus Ahmedabad stadium is dream project of Amit Shah and he does everything in wholesale!

I won't be surprised to see WC '23 final being played at Ahmedabad rather than iconic Eden Gardens or Wankhede!

Bess is a technically fine batsman and so is Leach but the need for England here is some quick runs and maybe get close to 600.

15 overs left and England not showing an intent to score quick, implies a tactic of batting as long as they can to tire the premiere Indian bowlers

wont be a bad idea to bat as long as the pitch stays flat and declare if they see any devil in the pitch. That is unless India manage to get the last 4 wickets

Pitch looks very slow and not turning much.

I think the game is heading for draw but you never know with this much scoreboard pressure, certainly England ain’t losing from here.

This Ind batting line up has a 36 all out in them eng should win by a innings..

This is all about how much the pitch deteriorates.

At this moment it looks flat, but if it starts to break up, then it could get tricky.

Say what you want about the pitch but there's no doubt England have shown more grit and patience with the bat in Tests under Chris Silverwood.

Irrespective there has to be a contest between bat and ball

India to score 650+ and bowl out England in 2 sessions under 100.

Rohit, Gill, Kohli, Pant

Innings victory

:aag

Indian A team under Rahane would have performed better than this Indian team under Kohli here. :inti
Yeah, as I said earlier Kohli is a real panauti for us as captain.

Just because we won 33 tests under him, doesn't mean he'll always remain good.

Bring Bumrah from other end and wrap the tail.

I recall last time we won in Adelaide 2003 after scoring 500+. Not sure about home games though.

Love how BCCI gives its commentators uniform like school kids. Dont think any other broadcasters do it.
