Kane Williamson has secured his position as an ATG

Lol worthy thread lmao.

Kane is far from an ATG. Only kiwi ATG. Biggest stat padder. Fodder.

He's considered an atg captain and not an atg batter.

He didn't have the strongest team, infact his batting resources were next to none in 2015 and 2019 and he had bowling resources but they still were not the best.

Taking NZ to the final unbeaten in 2015 and managing to defeat the strongest aussie team since classic era in their own den was a remarkable achievement considering stronger teams got crushed and not a single team besides NZ managed to beat that team. Obviously final they stood no chance really and frankly the victory in the group stages was a massive fluke, But it's insanely impressive nonetheless.

Similarly in 2019, he used his resources to perfection and tbh, England kinda cheated? The rule of tie made zero sense and the super over should have been restarted. The fact they rectified it years later kinda proves it.

He genuinely had very few resources and frankly speaking NZ bowling in 2015 and 2019 wasn't as strong as people are to believe, it's just good onfield decisons and the bowlers listening to their captain and bowling according to the field set which led them to be so lethal.
100%. I agree with this 100%. Great captain. With limited resources. But tbf he had a Great bowling attack. But overall he did manage to get the best out of them

His bowling attack in 2015 was nowhere near Australia's bowling attack at the time, Managing to be the only team that pulled off a win avainat aus in 2015 in group stages and going unbeaten till the finals is a massive achievement given his toothless batting attack.

Similarly in 2019 his bowling attack isn't as great as people believe it to be, 2015 sure but not 2019. Babar handled it and haris sohail dispatched it lol, and in group stages England murked it. It's just he managed to get enough wins and rr to squeeze through semi's and used his bowlers and gave them the perfect field setting, and in terms of pressure he didn't take any while India amd England did. England got lucky, India not so much.

True conditions specific. In swing and seam friendly conditions their bowling is deadly. This applies across formats. Outside that and especially on flatties they struggle badly.

You have made some good points here and I agree that he is a very good captain but he gets overrated a lot for his batting as well.

As far as the 2019 World Cup is concerned, him getting the MOTH award ahead of Stokes was daylight robbery.

New Zealand had an excellent bowling attack for English weather. They still do. Making the final was not something unexpected.

Ultimately, New Zealand were response for their own faith. They had the opportunity to eliminate England in the league phase but produced arguably the most cowardly performance of the World Cup at Chester-le-Street.

They needed 306 to win on a very good batting surface and they showed zero intention, ultimately perishing for 186 in 45 overs with none of their top 4 including Williamson striking at above 60.

England would have been eliminated had New Zealand won that match.

In the final, they had so many opportunities to put the game to bed. They were very timid with the bat, they had England on the ropes at 86/4 but allowed Buttler and Stokes to forge a partnership and his captaincy was very ordinary in that phase.

1) I agree on his batting being overrated. No complaints here.

2) Again agreed, Stokes deserved it.

3) Disagree here, their bowling attack was good, but it was overrated. Pakistan handled it just fine and so did England in group stages and other teams. Their batting was more toothless, It's just NZ played just alright and decent enough to barely squeeze into the top 4, and from their India mentality was shot as always.

4) Again disagree, England was leagues ahead of them, 2019 England is the strongest English odi side in history, They had no chance, however I agree in the final, Letting stokes off the hook especially that catch that went for a 6 was their own fault, But the deflection and Super over rule was unfair. I can get behind the deflection rule but not the Super over rule.

Williamson ultimately managed to defeat a 2015 Australia that would beat any odi team in history except for their own classic 2003 and 2007 self and no other team managed to defeat that team, to top it off he went unbeaten till the finals.

Yes the victory against australia was honestly a fluke in group stages and in the finals, it was impossible to replicate it 2x, australia put them in their place, But 2015 was 100% his peak, managing to win that many games despite 2015 squad being one of the weakest NZ squads in a world cup.

Yet another illustration of how overrated Williamson is and why NZ actually don’t even need him.

9000 Test runs for Kane Williamson - the first from New Zealand to reach the milestone!

What a player he is.

Congrats! While not as good as Smith and Root, he still is a fine Test batsman.

Outstanding player. Good to see him still going strong...he is always a treat to watch.

Bump!

Question is whether he is NZ’s greatest test batsman of all time or not? Overall stats say so and credit to his home record which is superb but his away record is not all that great.

The obvious competition to this claim is Martin Crowe.

How unlucky kane williamson was today. He was playing fine but has to go back to the dug out because the ball trickles onto his stumps.

Fantastic inning from Kane. Scored massive 156 against England in the 2nd inning of the 3rd test.

Century No.33 for him

Cricketer with ZERO haters!

A very underrated test batsmen. A proper atg in test cricket. However I can understand why people put him below root and smith

Kane Williamson in a press conference after the 3rd Test against England:

"I'm just focussing on right now and getting through the rest of the summer really."

"There's a bunch of different cricket coming up, and Champions Trophy obviously, which is exciting. Yeah, just see how it goes... I love Test cricket. As you mention, there's not a huge amount of it for some time, such is the schedule.''

KW is a good player but nowhere near the level of Martin Crowe.

Crowe performed to a high level vs W.I, Aus and Pak pacers in 80s and early 90s.

KW performances against best bowlers of era he's played in are nowhere near as good.

Crowe was a gun player in tests and OdIs as well.
