Just because he is a Shia now all of a sudden our experts are linking his appointment with Iran

Those experts need to shut their mouth we had Shia Arm Chief, PM and CJs before so it's not something new. There are around 5 Crore shias in Pakistan and many top ranking officers in Pak Army are shia.

Yes, Imran Khan “appointed” him and he wasn’t given orders by King Bajwa.

Nadeem Raza was next in line to become COAS before the extension of Bajwa so i am sure Bajwa and Nadeem are not very comfortable with each other right now.

Nadeem raza wasnt the only one next in line, its happend in the past, there were 4 candidates .....

True but he was a very strong candidate as a serving Chief of General Staff. In our recent past most of the Chiefs of General Staff ended up being CJCSC after getting out of COAS race.

Examples of recent CJCSC who served as Chief of General Staff before becoming CJCSC:
Zubair Hayat (He was too strong for NS liking)
Shameem Wynne (Kiyani's extension as COAS)
Nadeem Raza (Bajwa's extension as COAS)

In 90s both Asif Janjua and Jehangir Keramat served as Chief of General Staff before becoming COAS.

Pakistan politicians should stop this business of giving extension to COAS  grow a pair; first Asif Zardari did it and then Imran Khan did it; reeks of cowardice; only Nawaz Sharif has been brave enough to not give such an extension

instead he gifted 2 senate seats to retired generals to keep a connection open with army but the boot licking never worked for him.

Brave?
@srh

I dont know about it. I just know that after Musharaf era,
  • the PPP government give extension to COAS. Still their relationships with army deteriorate. And they lost the next elections.
  • the PML-N government did not give extension to COAS although they were in lot of pressure to give it.
  • the PTI government give extension to COAS. And now their relationships with army is deteriorating slowly as per news.

I am against giving extension to COAS on principle. This is basically 'Aa bail mujhay maar' kind of step. Army does not like internally when its COAS is given extension. Because of protocol nobody would say anything but dislike of such political government grew as this action is termed as unfair to other officers.

Bajwa has done a good job, and deserves the retention. The Nooras were never interested in a professional army, they wanted an army that sang their tunes. We know the army is not perfect and have made some bad errors but they put their arrses on the line and for that alone, they will always get my support.

even if they engineered a soft coup and be instrumental in removing Imran Khan as Prime Minister?

I don't think they would because they have made enough mistakes in the past. They need to be on the side of the constitution but if the feel IK was a threat to national security then they would have to say so and give reasons. There is no other reason I would back any sort of anti constitutional action.

I am really against the extension. Nobody should get the extension. All these people worked through out the life to get that post COAS. But when one gets extension their hard work ruined.

oh dont worry there will not be any anti-constitutional action. All the actions will be within the framework of constitution:
  • Either they will bring someone forward from within PTI to replace IK; in this case PTI government will stay and complete its term.
  • Or they will tell the PTI coalition parties to remove support of PTI government and since PTI does not enjoy majority in parliament on its own so their government will collapse and either a combination of opposition parties will form government or new elections will be ordered.
All those actions are against the spirit of constitution as constitution expected all institutions to function only within their limits. And here an institution is again softly conspiring against the current government and is indulging in making and breaking of governments as they like it; they have done this in past multiple times, they are doing it in present and looks like they will continue to do it in future. And there is nobody to stop them to do so.

Or nothing will happen and IK serves his 5 years. Remember Nobody from within the PTI has the authority or support to lead the PTI without IK's agreement and he won't give that.
