Manchester City win the Premier League 2023/24 season - 1st ever team to win 4 PL titles in a row

Foden and alvarez stepping up and some people thinking city are weaker then last season.

Julian Alvarez has been directly involved in 20 goals in his 26 starts across all competitions for Manchester City, scoring 15 goals and providing five assists.

He will step up and replace mahrez

City may have a different squad but their football hasnt changed one bit. 40 mins in , they have 150+ passes than Newcastle, with 63% possesion. Taking the ball off them requires serious pressing but with intelligence.

Not sure of Newcastle line up tonight. I would played Harvey Barnes instead of Gordon.

City at home are just so tough to beat, they suffocate teams and then put them away. Liverpool were same like that few seasons ago at Anfield

HALF-TIME
Man City 1-0 Newcastle

The half-time whistle goes and the Uefa Super Cup champions lead Newcastle.

Newcastle need to improve on their park bus tactics

Gordon on yellow gets taken off so he doesn't get a red, Barnes on and booked straight away lol

City win 1-0, they will be either 6 wins and 1 draw or 7 wins out of 7 wins by time they play Arsenal on match day 8

Defending champions Manchester City reminded their title rivals they remain the team to beat by seeing off a determined Newcastle United side that have been touted as possible pretenders to their crown.

Julian Alvarez's brilliant first-half strike proved enough to maintain City's winning start to the Premier League season against a Magpies team who battled hard but possessed modest attacking threat for much of the match.
Phil Foden provided the creative sparkle for City in the absence of Kevin de Bruyne, who faces up to six months out after hamstring surgery this week.

The England playmaker set up Alvarez's goal and created more chances after the break, with Erling Haaland wasting the best of them when he fired wide.

Newcastle matched City in midfield and upset the home crowd with their physical approach, with Foden on the receiving end of a couple of heavy challenges.

But it was in the final third where Eddie Howe's side were lacking - something of a surprise after they scored five goals against Aston Villa on the opening weekend.

They did not manage a shot on target until the 70th minute, when substitute Harvey Barnes finally tested Ederson from outside the box, and despite some late pressure they did not create another clear chance.

City know how to win 'ugly' and that's an example of that tonight versus Newcastle.

Kept it tight, job done - 3 points and a clean sheet.

Will be tough game, if we play same line up as we did forrest it will end 1-1.

If we play partey back In midfield then we will win 2-1.

Selhurst Park is usually a tough place to visit. I think if Palace score first, it could be tough. Vice versa, Arsenal score first, a few more should come.

It's a game where we need to control midfield as it's compact ground and they are a physical team. It won't be easy.

HALF-TIME

Aston Villa 2-0 Everton
The whistle goes for half time with Aston Villa in the lead and on top.

Aston Villa recovered from their opening Premier League thrashing at Newcastle by thumping woeful Everton 4-0 at Villa Park.

Unai Emery's Villa were heavily beaten 5-1 last weekend but got their campaign up and running at home with the impressive Leon Bailey having a hand in two goals.

Fine work from the fleet-footed winger allowed him to create the opener for skipper John McGinn, who clipped home a first-time finish from close range.

The hosts doubled their lead on 24 minutes courtesy of Douglas Luiz's penalty after the referee adjudged Jordan Pickford to have brought down Ollie Watkins in the box.

Villa were carving Everton open with ease and Jamaica international Bailey pounced to net their third after the break, punishing Toffees defender Michael Keane's poor clearance.

England keeper Pickford made a stunning reaction save to deny Moussa Diaby's thunderous volley but more shambolic defending from the away side gifted Jhon Duran a fourth.

Everton substitute Arnaut Danjuma forced Emiliano Martinez into a decent save but Sean Dyche's side have now lost their opening two games this season.

And a wretched afternoon for the visitors was made worse with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Alex Iwobi both hobbling off injured.

West Ham United claimed a rousing London derby win against big-spending Chelsea despite playing almost 30 minutes with 10 men.

The Hammers were 2-1 ahead when defender Nayef Aguerd, who opened the scoring with a seventh-minute header, was sent off in the 67th minute for his second bookable offence.
But Chelsea could not force an equaliser and then conceded a late third through Lucas Paqueta's penalty in the fifth minute of added time.

Teenager Carney Chukwuemeka scored his first goal for the Blues to make it 1-1 but Enzo Fernandez wasted a chance to put them ahead when his penalty was saved by Alphonse Areola.

Michail Antonio put West Ham back in front with a powerful angled strike in the 53rd minute, before the hosts were reduced to 10 men.

However, Mauricio Pochettino's side could not use their man advantage to force a second leveller despite a second-half debut for Moises Caicedo, who joined from Brighton earlier this week in a deal that could become a British record.

The Ecuador midfielder signed for an initial £100m, although the deal could be worth up to £115m, and he had a chance to make it 2-2 but shot over from the edge of the penalty area.

Caicedo then conceded a penalty with a foul on Emerson and Paqueta scored from the spot to seal West Ham's victory.

A penalty from captain Martin Odegaard gave 10-man Arsenal a battling Premier League victory at Crystal Palace.

Eddie Nketiah was brought down by Sam Johnstone after Gabriel Martinelli's quickly taken free-kick, with Odegaard sending the goalkeeper the wrong way from the spot.
At that stage Mikel Arteta's side looked comfortable, but they were left hanging on after left-back Takehiro Tomiyasu was shown a red card for two bookings.

The first yellow was for taking too long over a throw-in and the second was harshly awarded for a minor foul on Jordan Ayew in midfield.

Palace put on late pressure, with Tyrick Mitchell drilling over in injury time, but the Gunners, who hit the post through Nketiah in the first half, deserved their victory.

Arsenal join Brighton and Manchester City on six points from two games, while Palace failed to build on their opening-day win at Sheffield United.

Nottingham Forest have signed Brazil midfielder Andrey Santos on a season-long loan from Chelsea.

The 19-year-old, who has one cap for his country, joined Chelsea from Vasco da Gama in January before being loaned back in March.

He scored eight goals in 33 appearances as Vasco secured promotion to Brazil's top flight in 2022.

"I am very happy and excited to be here. I know Forest is a big club," said Santos.

Raheem Sterling's double and a goal from Nicolas Jackson gave Chelsea their first Premier League win under manager Mauricio Pochettino as they saw off Luton at Stamford Bridge.

Sterling, who has started the season in excellent form, picked the ball up wide on the right and jinked his way through three players before firing into the bottom corner in the 17th minute.
The England winger then doubled Chelsea's lead in the 67th minute when he scored from close range from a Malo Gusto cross.

Sterling was involved again as Chelsea got their third, sending a low cross into the area for Jackson to score his first goal for the club.

Luton, who are still looking for their first points of the season since being promoted from the Championship, caused Chelsea problems throughout the game but the Blues' quality saw them take all three points.

Luton look dead certs to go down.

Extremely poor side that made Chelsea look decent tonight.

Chelsea were decent imo. Showed a lot of energy and played direct football.

Its a brand new team but one which will challenge top 4 this season.

Chelsea looked far better than both Arsenal and Utd so far.

James Maddison scored his first Tottenham goal and delivered an outstanding individual performance as Spurs continued their fine start to life under Ange Postecoglou with victory at Bournemouth.

Maddison's opener came at the end of a flowing Spurs move involving Yves Bissouma and Pape Sarr, and arrived just moments after Cherries goalkeeper Neto had kept out another effort from the 26-year-old.

Spurs carved out the better opportunities before half-time but Richarlison - who endured a frustrating afternoon - was unable to open his tally for the season despite finding himself in some excellent goalscoring positions.

Bournemouth made a bright start to the second half and Antoine Semenyo nearly followed up his goal at Anfield last weekend with a superb second-half equaliser, but the Ghanaian's curling effort from the edge of the box flew narrowly wide of the top corner.

Young full-back Destiny Udogie was the architect of the visitors' second, playing an excellent one-two with Heung-min Son before cutting the ball back for Dejan Kulusevski, who found the far corner for his first of the campaign.

Spurs have seven points from their opening three league games, while Bournemouth's wait for a first win of the season goes on after slipping to a second straight defeat.

Manchester United came back from two goals down to record a thrilling victory against 10-man Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford.

For the first time in Premier League history, United found themselves two goals behind inside four minutes after an abysmal start to the game led to goals for Taiwo Awoniyi and Willy Boly.

Once Christian Eriksen had pulled one back, and after Casemiro has somehow headed wide of an open net before the break, the Brazilian drew his side level when he bundled home Bruno Fernandes' header across goal after an inspired Marcus Rashford pass.

United manager Ten Hag highlighted about Fernandes' inspirational qualities as a captain in the build-up to the match and the Portuguese led from the front as the hosts chased a winner.

Forest skipper Joe Worrall was red carded for bringing Fernandes down on the edge of the area midway through the second period, and though United could not make the most of the free-kick which followed, the Portuguese kept his nerve to drive home the winner 14 minutes from time after Danilo had tripped Rashford.

Joao Palhinha secured a point for 10-man Fulham in an entertaining Premier League draw away to Arsenal.

Palhinha's first-time finish from a corner earned the away side a share of the spoils.

The Cottagers had Calvin Bassey sent off in the 83rd minute after fouling Eddie Nketiah on the counter attack.

Andreas Pereira got Fulham off to a flying start, scoring after just 57 seconds.

Bukayo Saka equalised from the spot for the Gunners after Fabio Vieira was caught by Kenny Tete in the box.

Nketiah scored Arsenal's second as they came from behind to take the lead, before Fulham had the final word.

Substitute Sasa Kalajdzic flicked in a late header to give Wolves their first Premier League win of the season and leave Everton pointless and bottom of the table.

The Austria striker, who joined Wolves at the start of last season but suffered an ACL injury on his debut, leapt above Nathan Patterson to head home from Pedro Neto's cross to get their season up and running.

After a forgetful opening period in which both sides lacked cutting edge in the final third, the contest became much more of a spectacle in the second half.

Wolves failed to find a shot on target in the first half and thought they had broken the deadlock after half-time, but Fabio Silva's celebrations were cut short as his close-range finish was ruled out for offside.

The Portuguese striker should have converted when Everton got into a defensive muddle and presented him with a clear-cut opportunity but Silva ran through and struck wide of goal.

The two goalkeepers then exchanged stunning saves as Jordan Pickford made a sharp reflex save to keep out team-mate Jarrad Branthwaite's inadvertent effort, while Jose Sa superbly tipped over Abdoulaye Doucoure's stooping header.

The home faithful thought they had won it with 11 minutes remaining when Doucoure slotted in to finish off a fine move, but the assistant's flag went up for offside and Kalajdzic struck late on to stun the hosts.

Joachim Andersen's scrappy second-half goal secured a valuable point for Crystal Palace against Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium.

The Bees had taken the lead through Kevin Schade's brilliant first goal for the club but both sides lacked a cutting edge.

Palace were deserving of the draw after stepping up a gear from a dominant Brentford first half, despite horrendous rainy conditions.

Thomas Frank's men made their strong start count through Schade just shy of 20 minutes in.

The German striker met a sumptuous cross-field pass from Christian Norgaard before driving in from the left and bending a shot into Sam Johnstone's top-right corner.

Palace looked to force the issue more in the second half, with Cheick Doucoure and Eberechi Eze both noticeably more involved.

Mark Flekken was tested from an Odsonne Edouard free-kick before a stunning double save to deny Jefferson Lerma and Jordan Ayew.

Andersen levelled for Palace on 76 minutes, somehow squeezing the ball underneath Flekken after a mix-up in the area with Collins.

HALF-TIME

Brighton 0-1 West Ham
West Ham lead at the break thanks to James Ward-Prowse's goal.

Haaland missing chances today. Will city drop points?

City always show their elite mentality even when not at their best

Rodri scored a late winner to earn Manchester City victory over battling Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

Jayden Bogle thought he had earned the Blades a point with a drilled equaliser after 85 minutes, but Spain midfielder Rodri blasted into the top left corner three minutes later to give City the win.

Erling Haaland missed a first-half penalty before heading the opener from Jack Grealish's cross after the break.

Matty Cash scored twice as Aston Villa picked apart Burnley, who remain without a point since their Premier League return.

Villa suffered a 5-1 thumping at Newcastle in their opening game but have recovered in fine fashion with three consecutive victories in all competitions.

Full-back Cash was the unlikely hero at Turf Moor, scoring two fine goals as Unai Emery's men showcased why they will be a force to be reckoned with this season.

It took just seven minutes for the visitors to prise open the Clarets backline as Ollie Watkins ran through and chipped the ball to the back post for Cash to finish.

The second was a fine team move volleyed in by Poland international Cash following a cutback from summer signing Moussa Diaby, who impressed once again.

But Vincent Kompany's hosts hit back immediately after the break as Lyle Foster swivelled and struck a calm finish for his first top-flight goal.

Burnley were much improved in the second period and exerted real pressure on Villa, but the visitors scored a brilliant goal on the counter-attack as Diaby rolled home to seal a deserved victory.

HALF-TIME

Newcastle 1-0 Liverpool

A three-minute spell has swung this game in Newcastle's favour, with Anthony Gordon's opener followed soon after by a red card for Virgil van Dijk.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has been in the thick of it too. Some may feel he should have been sent off early on for two bookable offences. It was his mistake that led to Gordon's goal too.

Huge win for 10 man Liverpool. Superb stuff by nunèz.

FULL-TIME
Newcastle 1-2 Liverpool

All the cheers come from the pocket of Liverpool fans in the away end and the lads in red on the pitch.

Darwin Nunez thrusts his fists skyward.

Somehow, Liverpool have come from a goal behind with a man fewer, scoring two late goals to beat Newcastle on their own patch.

A massive, massive win for them. A total sickener for Newcastle, who must now analyse quite how they've managed to lose it.

Darwin Nunez struck two late goals to complete a remarkable turnaround and give ten-man Liverpool a dramatic victory against Newcastle United at St James' Park.

Liverpool were battling against the odds and second best for much of a thrilling encounter, falling behind to Anthony Gordon's 25th-minute goal after he cashed in on Trent Alexander-Arnold's mistake, then seeing captain Virgil van Dijk sent off for a foul on Alexander Isak three minutes later.

Alisson kept Liverpool in it by miraculously turning Miguel Almiron's shot on to the woodwork in the first half, the forward also hitting the post after the break, before Uruguay striker Nunez was introduced to stunning effect.

Nunez ran through to rifle a shot past Newcastle keeper Nick Pope with nine minutes left, then took Mohamed Salah's pass in his stride three minutes into stoppage time before applying an equally emphatic finish to give Liverpool an astonishing win.

Wolves have completed the signing of Uruguay defender Santiago Bueno from Girona in an £8.5m deal.

Bueno, 24, who has two international caps, joins the West Midlands club on a five-year contract.

Wolves have also announced the arrival of 18-year-old winger Enso Gonzalez from Paraguayan side Libertad.

He joins on a six-year deal for a fee believed to be in the region of 12m euros (£10m), subject to international clearance and a work permit.

The South American duo are the first two players to join Wolves since Gary O'Neil was appointed as manager earlier this month.

O'Neil also confirmed on Thursday that Portugal midfielder Matheus Nunes is on his way to Manchester City for a reported fee of £53m and that he is hopeful of adding to his squad before Friday's summer transfer deadline.

Nottingham Forest have signed Portuguese full-back Nuno Tavares from Arsenal on a season-long, including future options.

The 23-year-old joined the Gunners from Benfica in an £8m deal in 2021 and has made 28 appearances for the club.

He spent last season on loan at Marseille, scoring six goals in 31 Ligue 1 games.

"Forest is an historic club which won two European Cups and to be part of it makes me really happy," said Tavares.

"I'm really happy to stay in the Premier League as it's the best league in the world and I'm thankful to Forest for giving me that opportunity."

Fulham have agreed a fee with Everton to sign midfielder Alex Iwobi.

The Nigerian, 27, will now travel to London for a medical with a view to completing the move before the transfer deadline at 23:00 BST.

Iwobi has played in two of Everton's three Premier League games this season, with the Toffees yet to pick up a single point and sitting bottom of the table.

Injury kept him out of Saturday's home defeat to Wolves.

He joined the club from Arsenal in the summer of 2019 and has made 123 league appearances, scoring six times.

Jarrod Bowen continued his fine start to the season to help West Ham to a victory at Luton that puts them top of the Premier League.

After dominating possession throughout the first half, West Ham found the breakthrough shortly before half-time when Lucas Paqueta's tantalising cross was headed in by Bowen, although Luton goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski may feel he should have done better as he parried the shot over the line.
Luton, despite being without the ball for long periods, did pose a threat on the counter and they carved out eight chances in the opening 45 minutes.

However, they failed to register an effort on target as Ross Barkley fired wide on two occasions and Carlton Morris - who has scored Luton's only goal in the Premier League this season - headed on to the roof of the net.

Elijah Adebayo and Morris had good chances in the second period but the former got the ball caught under his feet and the latter blazed over from seven yards.

Kurt Zouma scored West Ham's second in the closing stages with a header from a James Ward-Prowse corner.

Luton's first shot on target came in the 92nd minute and set up a tense finish when defender Mads Andersen headed in, but the Hammers held on for victory.

Transfer deadline day 2023: Premier League breaks record as summer spending reaches £2.36bn.

Another record-breaking transfer window closed on Friday after a busy summer that saw Premier League clubs splash out £2.36bn on new players.

The combined outlay of the 20 clubs during the window smashes the previous spending record of £1.92bn set last summer by £440m, according to financial services firm Deloitte.

Premier League clubs spent £255m on deadline day alone, which is more than double the £120m spent on the final day of last summer's window.

That means the 2023-24 season already has the second-highest transfer spend ever after last season's £2.73bn - with the January window still to come.

Other records include:

Premier League transfers accounted for 48% of total spending across the 'big five' European leagues - La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga and Ligue 1.

Premier League clubs received £550m in transfer fees from overseas clubs, more than double the previous record of £210m in the summer of 2022.

With the exception of Spain's La Liga, gross transfer spend increased in all of Europe's 'big five' leagues.

Only two of Europe's 'big five' leagues spent more on transfers than they received - the Premier League and Ligue 1.

There were 13 Premier League transfers valued at £50m-plus, which is more than the previous two summer transfer windows combined.

Tim Bridge, lead partner in Deloitte's Sports Business Group, said: "A second successive summer of record spending by Premier League clubs suggests that year-on-year revenue growth could return following the pandemic.

"Nearly three quarters of Premier League clubs (14) spent more this summer than the last, reflecting the increased intensity of competition.

"There continues to be pressure on clubs to acquire top talent to satisfy their on-pitch objectives, whether that's qualifying for European competition or simply maintaining their position in the Premier League."

Sheffield United 2-2 Everton

Both Sheffield United and Everton pick up their first point of the season.

The visitors went ahead through Abdoulaye Doucoure, only for the hosts to score through Cameron Archer and then a Jordan Pickford own goal.

But Arnaut Danjuma's goal made it 2-2 and a draw.

Pickford saved Everton though in the ninth minute of injury time with a wonder save to deny Oliver McBurnie what would've been the most dramatic of dramatic winners.

Sheffield United and Everton contested an entertaining Premier League draw as both sides picked up their first point of the campaign.

The two teams have had wretched starts, losing their opening three games this season, but they could not be separated at Bramall Lane, sharing four goals in an enjoyable lunchtime game.

Sheffield United had started the brighter but it was the visitors who took the lead through Abdoulaye Doucoure, poking in a rebound for Everton's first league goal of the campaign.

United responded well with the dangerous Gustavo Hamer forcing Jordan Pickford into a sharp save and they got their reward as Cameron Archer side-footed in to finish off a slick team move.

It got even better for Paul Heckingbottom's on the stroke of half-time as Archer's arrowed effort hit the post before ricocheting off the unfortunate Pickford and into the net.

But Everton hit back after the break as on-loan Arnaut Danjuma converted from close range via Nathan Patterson's cross to the back post to salvage a point for Sean Dyche's men.

United were inches away from a dramatic winner in the 99th minute, but Oli McBurnie's header was somehow pushed on to the crossbar by Pickford at full stretch, with the goalkeeper recovering to divert the follow-up on to the post.

Spurs 5-1 up at Burnley - good start to season for them

City 4-1 up vs Fulham - haaland with 2

Burney losing again and people were gassing up Kompany and linking him with top jobs, because he did well and played good football in the championship.

He and Burnley are getting exposed in the premier league and I am loving it. :ROFLMAO:

Madison at £40 million has to be the bargain of the season. What a player.
Always rated him, apart from KDB over last 4 seasons he's been best performing attacking midfielder in terms of goals and stats.

City never really weakens, Pep fills in any gaps knowing what is to come. City are also treble winners, first time CL winners, this in itself gives extra confidence to the club. Tbf Fulham are weaker than last season, so today was expected.

Shocking from Chelsea, so many attempts on goal but only 2 shots on target. Poch will be under pressure now.

Erling Haaland scored a hat-trick as Manchester City returned to the top of the Premier League with a comprehensive victory over Fulham.

Julian Alvarez opened the scoring for City, before Tim Ream equalised for Fulham minutes later.

Nathan Ake then made it 2-1 with a highly contentious goal, as Manuel Akanji was deemed to not be interfering with play following a video assistant referee check, a decision that left Fulham's players and manager Marco Silva furious.

Haaland got in behind the Fulham defence to slot past goalkeeper Bernd Leno for City's third, then scored from the penalty spot before getting on the end of a Sergio Gomez cut-back to complete his hat-trick.

Son Heung-min scored a hat-trick as Tottenham recovered from a goal down to thrash Burnley at Turf Moor and continue their unbeaten start to the Premier League season.

Lyle Foster finished a lovely, flowing move to give the Clarets an early lead, but Son's delicate finish restored parity 12 minutes later and the visitors never looked back.

They dominated the rest of the half and Cristian Romero's curling effort from the edge of the box completed the turnaround on the stroke of half-time.

James Maddison continued his fine start to the campaign with a peach of a goal nine minutes into the second half, the former Leicester man curling beyond James Trafford after Burnley had gifted the visitors possession inside their own half.

Son side-footed past Trafford for his second of the game before completing his treble with a low strike after latching on to Pedro Porro's delightful through ball.

Josh Brownhill's neat finish pulled one back for Burnley in stoppage time, but it was no more than a consolation.

Spurs, who were knocked out of the EFL Cup by Fulham on Tuesday, move to ten points from their opening four games, while Burnley remain without a point this season.

Substitute Anthony Elanga scored his first Nottingham Forest goal to secure a hard-fought Premier League victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Summer signing Elanga, introduced in first-half added time following an injury to Danilo, struck shortly after the break when he raced on to Taiwo Awoniyi's pass and slotted home.

Nicolas Jackson missed a glorious opportunity to equalise inside the final 10 minutes, firing over from inside the six-yard box after being teed up by Raheem Sterling.

Jackson had earlier been denied by a last-ditch block by Willy Boly, while £40m deadline day signing Cole Palmer was introduced by boss Mauricio Pochettino, as Chelsea chased a response.

But despite dominating possession, territory and chances, the hosts were punished for failing to take their opportunities by a resolute Forest.

A second victory from four games lifted Steve Cooper's visitors to ninth in the table, while Chelsea fell to 11th in the early standings.

Pep also never allows any one player to feel he cannot be dropped, agree with your hunger point.

Anyway.. Huge game for Arsenal tomorrow v Utd.

If we play same formation as first 3 games of season with Partey at RB and 💩vertz in midfield then game will be a 2-2 draw as united will punish us on counter attack.

If Gabriel starts and partey and rice play in midfield we win the game 2-1.

Arsenal can't drop ain't points in next 4 games before they play man city. Under Fraudeta Arsenal have consistently dropped points in consecutive games due to tactical ineptness of the manager.

Brighton leading Newcastle 3-0 with only the injury time to go. Not many were expecting this result from this match. Massive result for Brighton.
