Looks like his career is over, it will be a long ban. You have to be pretty greedy to do spot fixing while playing in the biggest league in the world.

Southampton beat Leeds in the Championship play-off final to secure an immediate return to the Premier League and the £140m to go with it.

Saints' 11-year spell in the top flight came to an end after a wretched campaign last time out but, despite finishing one place and three points behind Leeds in fourth, it is they who join Leicester and Ipswich in going up.

Adam Armstrong scored the decisive goal with a clinical finish after being put clear by Will Smallbone.

Leeds substitute Dan James clattered a bouncing ball against the crossbar late on as they pushed for an equaliser but Russell Martin's men saw out almost 12 minutes of time added on.

Defeat for Leeds consigned them to another season in the Championship and meant they have now lost their past three finals at Wembley without scoring and been unsuccessful in all six of their play-off campaigns.

Saints' promotion means that all three play-off finals this year were won by the team who had finished lower in the league table, with the team who had finished higher failing to score in all three.

Both teams came into the game off the back of comprehensive second-leg wins in the semi-finals, Leeds beating Norwich 4-0 and Southampton easing to a 3-1 victory over West Bromwich Albion.

There was nothing between the two sides for the first quarter of the game before Armstrong put Saints in front with his 24th goal of a prolific campaign.

Chances were few and far between thereafter, an oddly off-colour Crysencio Summerville shooting wide for Leeds and Samuel Edozie wasting a fine chance on the break for Southampton.

James twice came close to sending the match to extra time but Alex McCarthy made an excellent full-length save from his low 20-yarder after the bar had earlier denied the Welshman.

The win gives Martin, who had been discarded at Norwich as a player in Leeds boss Daniel Farke's spell at Carrow Road, his first promotion in management.

Ex-Arsenal and Everton star Campbell 'very unwell'

Everton and Arsenal have sent messages of support to their former striker Kevin Campbell, who is "very unwell" in hospital.

The Merseyside club said the 54-year-old, who began his career with the Gunners, became ill last week.

"Not just a great footballer but an incredible person, Kevin is, and always has been, a fighter and we wish him and his family well at this challenging time. Sending all our love," Everton said in a statement posted on X., external

On Monday, Arsenal wrote:, external "Everyone at the club is sending love to Kevin Campbell and his family, following news that our former striker is very unwell.

"We're thinking of you."

Campbell came through Arsenal's youth ranks, making his debut in 1988, and after loan stints at Leyton Orient and Leicester City, was a member of Arsenal's league title-winning squad in 1990–91.

He helped the Gunners win the FA Cup and League Cup double in 1993, and the European Cup Winners' Cup in 1994.

After spells with Nottingham Forest and Turkish side Trabzonspor, Campbell joined Everton on loan in March 1999, scoring nine goals in their final eight Premier League games to help the Toffees avoid relegation.

Campbell then made a permanent move to Everton that summer and spent more than five seasons with the Toffees.

He ended his career with spells at West Bromwich Albion and Cardiff City, scoring a career total of 148 goals from 542 appearances, and has since worked as a media pundit.

Brighton hope to complete deal for new manager this week and he will create Premier League history

Brighton are hopeful of completing a deal for Fabian Hurzeler to join this week and he would become the Premier League's youngest ever manager.

The St. Pauli boss has emerged as the Seagulls' top target to replace Roberto De Zerbi following a thorough selection process.

The American-born 31-year-old has earned rave reviews in Germany, which could now see him make the move to England.

talkSPORT understands that personal terms have been agreed and positive negotiations have been held with St Pauli.

Brighton had spoken to Graham Potter about a possible return, but as previously reported by talkSPORT, that is not a likely option.

Potter is believed to be keeping his options open in case Gareth Southgate quits England after the upcoming Euros.

The Seagulls were also keen on Kieran McKenna before he signed a new contract at Ipswich.

Hurzeler guided St Pauli to promotion to the Bundesliga after a 13-year hiatus, having only taken up the role 18 months ago.

He previously spent four years at German amateur side FC Pipinsried which presented him with his first managerial opportunity.

Malmo boss Henrik Rydstrom was another believed to be on Brighton’s shortlist having guided the club to the Swedish title last season, but Brighton currently only have eyes on Hurzeler.

And in a boost for Brighton, Hurzeler has been approved by the FA for visa purposes, meaning he would be free to take up the vacant position at the Amex Stadium.

Hurzeler, who was born in Houston, Texas, has never coached in the top-flight, but will break his duck next season whether that is in the Premier League or Bundesliga.

He took over St Pauli in December 2022 with the Hamburg-based club hovering above the relegation zone in Bundesliga 2.

His presence had an immediate impact as St Pauli went on to win their first ten matches under the gaze of the Hurzeler where they eventually finished fifth.

The American capped off a sensational 18-months by steering his side to the title in empathic fashion.

Hurzeler has also had spells as assistant manager for Germany’s Under-18 and Under-20 sides.

Due to his success as a young manager in Germany, Hurzeler has been compared to now national team boss Julian Nagelsmann.

However, speaking earlier this year, he said: “It wouldn’t be fair to him [to be compared] because he is an amazing coach.

“Of course, I always hear those comparisons with Julian Nagelsmann. But like I said, I must stay humble and walk my own way.

“I can’t do it the same way because that is the Julian Nagelsmann way, and I try to go the Fabian Hürzeler way.”

Wolves agree deal with Braga for Rodrigo Gomes

Wolves have agreed a five-year deal with Braga for Portuguese under-21 winger Rodrigo Gomes.

The 20-year-old is due to have a medical later this week before signing a long-term contract to 2029 worth 15m euros (£12.7m).

Gomes spent last season on loan at Estoril, scoring seven goals in 30 league appearances.

Atletico Madrid had been linked with Gomes but Wolves have moved quickly to secure his signature ahead of next season.

Brighton name Huerzeler as coach, youngest ever in PL

Brighton & Hove Albion have appointed 31-year-old Fabian Huerzeler as coach on a contract until 2027, the club said on Saturday, making him the youngest manager in Premier League history.

Huerzeler replaced Roberto De Zerbi who left at the end of the league season having helped them qualify for European competition for the first time during his spell in charge.

The American-born coach guided St Pauli to the top of the second-tier in Germany, earning promotion to the Bundesliga as champions.

"From the start of the process to appoint our new head coach, Fabian was always a standout candidate and one who had caught our attention with his exceptional work at St Pauli over the past eighteen months," Brighton chairman Tony Bloom said.

"He has a style of play that aligns with how we want a Brighton & Hove Albion team to play, and I'm confident it is one our supporters will appreciate and enjoy.

"Fabian also has an excellent coaching pedigree and has worked with the German federation at various age group levels.

We are really excited to start working with Fabian to prepare for the upcoming season."

Brighton finished 11th in the league last season after a gruelling campaign where they also reached the last 16 of the Europa League.

"The club has made incredible progress over the last few seasons and the aim is to continue building on that success," Huerzeler said.

"I am relishing the opportunity to coach in the Premier League, and I can't wait to meet the players, staff and, of course, the fans."

Managerless Burnley speak to Van Nistelrooy

Burnley have spoken to former Manchester United striker Ruud van Nistelrooy as they look to fill their managerial vacancy.

The Clarets were relegated back to the Championship last season and saw boss Vincent Kompany leave to join Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich in May.

BBC Sport understands Dutchman Van Nistelrooy and former England internationals Frank Lampard and Scott Parker have all been in talks with the Turf Moor side.

Reports in the Netherlands say 47-year-old Van Nistelrooy is close to agreeing a multi-year deal but an announcement over the club's decision is not expected this week.

His only previous role in senior management came when he led PSV Eindhoven to second place in the Eredivisie and KNVB Cup success in 2022-23.

Van Nistelrooy joined the Red Devils from PSV in 2001 and scored 95 goals in 150 Premier League games before joining Real Madrid in 2006.
