What's new

Manchester City win the Premier League 2023/24 season - 1st ever team to win 4 PL titles in a row

You lost 4 games , I said after 3, one more it’s done . The two Xmas back to back defeats & horrible performance v Villa meant it’s only a chase .
Arsenal have lost 5 games this season.

City have only lost 3.

Yeah the poor December where Arsenal took 1 point from 4 games vs Villa, Fulham, west ham and Liverpool meant they were playing catch up.

Then decision to play with line up vs Villa at home when there was no need to go back to a midfield that wasn't working earlier in season.

Those 6 points Emery took played huge part in why a miracle is needed on Sunday.

Both Liverpool and Arsenal let City in the back door fatal mistake

Worst thing is I think City will get rid of players like grealish, nunes, phililps and bring in players like Kimmich, paqueta, savio etc.. so they will be even harder to stop next season

If the roles are reversed the majority of your fans do the same
I'd never want Arsenal to lose a game. That dumb mentality is just a spurs thing

If situation was other way round, and Arsenal had manager in their 1st season with a chance of making CL which ultimately helps the chance of your club getting better players id want that. If a rival wins the league so beat it

Spurs not making CL will only mean they will get left even further behind next season as Villa will gey stronger, Chelsea will get better as will you lot.

Spurs fans would rather keep living in mediocrity as that's all they know.

Would you support Sunderland if a win for them meant you would win a trophy?

Ye 100% congrats to Villa and Unai. Pleased for him he's a classy guy. @shaz619 enjoy

I was routing for a draw so Arsenal had a chance but can’t say am not delighted. This is beyond belief really, we’re back where we belong, at the showcase of the immortals after roughing it out in the Championship just yesterday. What Unai has achieved in such a short period of time in the league has been special, I thoroughly believe in these players, Unai has been the glue which bought them together, he wont ever be forgotten by Villa fans regardless of what happens in the CL, can’t believe I said that! Villa vs Barcelona or Madrid, then off to Ladypool Road! can’t believe I said that, can happen 🤣

Arsenal had a far stronger defence this season to Liverpool. I don’t understand why Arteta stopped pressing this season & rotated for the sake of it esp trusting the likes of zinchenko . You shouldn’t have lost two on the bounce to Fulham & West Ham who don’t have great defences . 20% more attack minded , one of those two was a win & the title.

It will be a pleasure to join you but strictly no vegetarian :sachin

Congratulations Villa & great for the city .

I'm sure who ever is broadcasting the games will highlight "former winners Villa" against who ever your opponents are.

With you likely to be in the bottom seeds, you are likely to get some big games out of the 8 you play whether that be home or away.

Emery got little villareal to CL semi finals before...

I always want Sunderland to lose unless it would benefit us

The reality is CL was never fully in their hands anyway so I totally get it

I remember an AFTV clip where an Arsenal fan said he'd rather both Arsenal and Spurs lose EL/CL final than both win it and that wasn't an uncommon opinion

It's part and parcel of rivalry

In this exact scenario I'd rather lose if it meant it would hurt Sunderland

Manchester City moved to within one win of a historic fourth successive Premier League title with victory at Tottenham.

Erling Haaland's second-half double settled a tight encounter in which Spurs' hopes of a top-four finish ended, and sent Aston Villa into the Champions League for the first time next season.

Pep Guardiola's reigning champions will now lift the crown again if they beat West Ham United at Etihad Stadium on Sunday (16:00 BST).

Spurs performed with great credit, despite knowing bitter rivals Arsenal might be the beneficiaries of a good result, and it took a superb display from City's deputy goalkeeper Stefan Ortega to keep them at bay after he replaced Ederson, who took a heavy knock in a collision with Cristian Romero.

Haaland broke the deadlock when he tapped in Kevin de Bruyne's cross six minutes after the break, Ortega's heroics then keeping City in front as he saved twice from Dejan Kulusevski before denying Son Heung-min when he was clean through.

City then broke clear in stoppage time to put themselves on the brink of glory, Haaland scoring his 38th goal of the season from the penalty spot after Jeremy Doku was fouled by Pedro Porro.

It sets the stage for Sunday's season finale, with City now two points ahead of Arsenal and on a seemingly unstoppable surge.

You simply can't drop points in clusters In 3 consecutive games at any point in season. Arsenal did that in December. The whole tinkering with midfield and strikers.

After that point Arsenal had to be perfect to get back into the race.

The team selections vs Bayern and Villa were poor. This is where you have to be able to balance between multiple completions. Instead we went out if one, gave initiave away in the other.

Liverpool learnt this the hard way, so are Arsenal now.

Arsenal's 3 previous PL titles were all won after being flawless in run in up until the point the title was won. Same thing applies nowadays as well

Enjoy it bro and I mean that. Not many teams these days have much to achieve due to the dominance of City so you've got to enjoy these moments

Yeah I get the rivalry thing, but AFTV is just a poor representation of the fan base.

Why would you not want your own club to win a trophy even if a rival did as well, that makes no sense.

Also that channel has no morals, they know usually sensor the outspoken fans and just use it as a cheer leading platform after getting some access and privileges at the club. Most journalists linked to club behave in same way.

That part I wasn't necessarily on board with, losing a game is one thing but losing a trophy is different

In this situation I can totally understand the position Spurs fans took, imagine they did get a result tonight, not a chance Arsenal fans would ever let them forget that they handed them the title

Congratulations to Arsenal for having a great season by winning nothing! :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: No matter what some things never change:love:. Gotta give to Man City they are worthy champs again after being put under so much pressure. Even though they have the money it is still hard too do it on the pitch. No one remembers second or third. We would never have heard the end off it had Arsenal won the EPL, they would have gone on and on about it. I would rather finish third and win something then finish second and win nothing.

When CIty needed it last night their keeper, came up with a save which pretty much helped them win the game.

When you look back at moments like that then look at Arsenal keeper, there hasn't been a similar game where Raya made the difference and won points for Arsenal

West Ham have a hole not a defence . City big win to crown them not just champions but greatest English league team .

Arsenal competed @Mamoon mission accomplished?
City needs to clear the FFP charges before they can be crowned the greatest English team. The foundation of their success is built on breaking the rules.

SAF’s United remains the greatest English team in the PL era.

You lost 4 games , I said after 3, one more it’s done . The two Xmas back to back defeats & horrible performance v Villa meant it’s only a chase .
When you lose the title by 2 points, it all comes down to marginal moments and you can find a plethora of such moments throughout the season.

I’m happy and proud that Arsenal went toe to toe until the last day and didn’t wilt under pressure like Liverpool who completely embarrassed themselves.

The Liverpool players should be ashamed of themselves. They had it in their hands in Klopp’s farewell season and they should have been prepared to go through a brick wall for him in these last few months.

This should have been a three way decider on the final day of the season and it would have cemented this season as the GOAT PL season, but Liverpool players had other ideas. You have to feel so sorry for Klopp.

As an Arsenal fan I cannot wait for next season. I have waited for so long to see Arsenal in this position, play like a proper club and fight for the title every season.

A lot of Arsenal haters and certain Arsenal “fans” with a toxic agenda thought last season was a flash in the pan and Arsenal will be back fighting for a top 4 spot this season, but those people have received a shut up call and Arsenal have sent a clear message that they are here to stay.

This is the best period for the club in the last 20 years because it is the first time in this period that Arsenal have mounted back to back title challenges.

Arsenal are extremely well placed right now. Every club in the country except City would happily trade places with Arsenal right now when you look at the manager, the squad, the energy of the club and the direction it is going in.

All of this is down to the amazing work of Arteta and Edu who have rebuild the club and raised the expectations. Arsenal was a club that let its standards and expectations compromise and deteriorate for years and they needed leaders who would shake things up and that is exactly what they have done.

Liverpool away last season was the last time an Arsenal keeper saved the team.

Raya has been average in spite of the great numbers on paper thanks to the brilliant defense. He has let the team down every time he has been properly tested.

Like I said At the elite level, fine margins define success and failure. Arsenals defeat, (bottle job) at home to Villa was the defining moment. As we did previously discuss, the Juggernaut that is city, needs no second invitations

People choose their own defining moments to suit their narrative. Losing to Villa cost Arsenal the same number of points as losing to West Ham at home and Fulham away.

Replacing Jesus and Martinelli with Havertz and Trossard changed Arsenal’s season and I wish Arteta would have done that earlier, but alas. There always ifs and buts.

Man City are a brute force

They will spend more this summer to bolster their squad. How do you stop them? Liverpool can't afford to have Brighton like budget, they must spend big to compete with city. Defensive midfielder like Endo isn't going to win you titles, he is a squad player at best.

There’s nothing between Arsenal and City now. Just fine margins. Their points on the table plus head to head results this season show that.

City will spend money but so will Arsenal and they will lock horns again next season.

People don’t realize what an amazing job Arteta has done. Arsenal were a million miles away from City when he left them to join Arsenal and he has closed the gap while spending less money than City in the same period.

Championship is a great place to buy cheap and quality signing. Adam Wharton is a great example, is now worth £50 to £55 million pound

Ten Haag drops Hojund & is playing Bruno up front . Strange but let’s see.

Newcastle & Chelsea fighting for European spot . I think both will win tonight away from home .

That's a weird decision from Ten haag

I think Newcastle may drop points tonight.

I think Chelsea will win

Man United could be without Europe for next season never happened in my lifetime , following EPL since 2002/03

Last time they had no Europe was probably when English teams were banned in the 80s 🤣

Cole Palmer's brilliant season with Chelsea continued as his goal helped the Blues boost their European qualification hopes with a win at Brighton in the Premier League.

Palmer netted his 22nd league strike of the season, meeting Marc Cucurella's cross with a looping header into the far corner in the 34th minute.

And the visitors added a second 14 minutes after the restart when Christopher Nkunku coolly dispatched Malo Gusto's cutback.

Having been so dominant Chelsea gifted Brighton a way back into the game when substitute Reece James - playing just his second match in 2024 after coming back from a long-term injury - was shown a straight red card for kicking out at Joao Pedro.

In the 97th-minute Danny Welbeck netted to halve the deficit, tapping in a Pedro cross, but the visitors held on.

Chelsea moved up to sixth in the table and currently sit in a Europa League spot.

They will guarantee a place in Europe next season if they claim a point at home to Bournemouth on the final day.

Brighton fell to a seventh defeat in ninth matches but remain in 10th place.

Rasmus Hojlund broke his 10-game scoring drought to seal victory for Manchester United in a thrilling Old Trafford encounter with Newcastle.

Anything other than a win for Erik ten Hag’s side would have condemned them to their lowest league finish in 34 years.

Instead, they go into the final day needing to better Newcastle’s result to claim a place in next season’s Uefa Conference League, although they will qualify for the Europa League if they beat Manchester City in the FA Cup final at Wembley on 25 May.

Kobbie Mainoo put the home side in front after 31 minutes when he applied a cool finish from 10 yards after being played onside by Kieran Trippier.

Anthony Gordon levelled four minutes after the restart and Manchester United needed a brilliant tackle from Sofyan Amrabat to stop them from going behind as Alexander Isak failed to finish a three-on-one counter.

Amad Diallo drove home his first Premier League goal just before the hour mark as Newcastle failed to clear a corner to put Manchester United back in front, although Eddie Howe’s visitors were inches away from an equaliser as Miguel Almiron just failed to turn home a low cross from the excellent Gordon at the far post.

It was left to Hojlund to settle home nerves, stepping to his right before sending a low finish into the bottom corner for his 15th goal of the season.

However those nerves still jangled a bit, as Newcastle left-back Lewis Hall fired home from the edge of the box in the second minute of stoppage time but the home side held on.

Newcastle need a final-day win at Brentford to be certain of a top-seven finish.

JK deserves a lot more respect then what he is getting. He managed LFC with one hand tied behind his back.

But but klopp should get a special job seekers allowance Trophy and net spend trophy 😴😴

But but but but feel sorry for us. We need your sympathy because we Liverpool are too poor to spend money. Our manager Klopp is homeless and certainly looks homeless, and our net spend is just loose change.

But but but but feel sorry for us because we are beggars. 😭😭😭

You've missed me! Arsenal are not an elite club at all having never won the ECL :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: You are just also rans in Europe's top competition something that JK won where as Arteta can'even dream about it no matter what the budget is! https://www.888sport.com/blog/football/richest-football-clubs-in-world is a list of the richest clubs in the world 2024, as always you are behind us. Get used to it pal it will always be that way!:klopp

If our owners loosened the purse strings a bit more then sure it would help us nonetheless overall we will always be bigger then you! Just shows the Arsenal finishing second in the league makes them feel awesome so easily satisfied are you lot.

No! When Man City win the EPL Son Heung-min should receive a standing ovation from Arsenal fans!. Nice one lad hit it straight at the Man City keeper to make sure Arsenal fans keep crying!!:ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Finishing second in the league and missing out on the title by 2 points is better than winning the FA Cup/Carabao Cup and having a limp title challenge or no title challenge.

You have won nothing this season! That is what competition is all about. Finishing third and winning a trophy is much better then walking empty handed. Once more altogether now Arsenal have won nothing since Arteta arrived. As much as it hurts it is a painful fact so deal with it. To me finishing second is as bad as finishing sixth in the sense that no one cares. This is why with such an attitude Arsenal have a stinking history that to you finishing second is a great accomplishment where as we are all about winning ECL's.

posting lies in bold and large font won’t make them any true.

Arteta won the FA Cup in his first season, but that is not the reason why Arsenal fans rate him. That FA Cup meant nothing because the club was in shambles then.

Arsenal fans rate him and are excited for the future because he has transformed into a title challenging tea and there is no doubt there he will win multiple leagues with Arsenal.

FA Cup is not much either after you dismissed the importance of domestic trophies, right!!? Again your crystal ball of him doing this or that in the future is not fact but a prediction. I am dealing with FACTS only.

BRIGHTON CONFIRM ROBERTO DE ZERBI WILL LEAVE AT END OF THE SEASON AFTER GAME AGAINST MANCHESTER UNITED, LINKED TO BAYERN

Brighton & Hove Albion have confirmed that manager Roberto De Zerbi will leave the club at the end of the season.
De Zerbi, 44, has starred on the South Coast since taking over from Graham Potter, leading the club into the Europa League after a memorable 2023/24 campaign.

He has been linked to a number of top jobs in recent months, most notably former German champions Bayern Munich as well as Italian giants Napoli, AC Milan and Juventus.

The club have also confirmed that De Zerbi's coaching team comprising of Andrea Maldera, Ricard Segarra, Marcattilio Marcattilii, Vincenzo Teresa, Agostino Tibaudi, Marcello Quinto and Enrico Venturelli, will also depart the club. However, Andrew Crofts and Jack Sterm will stay on the south coast.

Chairman, Tony Bloom, said in a statement on the club website: “Roberto has given us two excellent seasons of service in which he has led the club to new heights, not least our first ever European campaign which will live long in the memory of Albion fans.

“We have mutually agreed to end Roberto’s contract at a time that suits both parties allowing us the earliest opportunity to plan for next season, and Roberto plenty of time to consider his next move and his future.

“I am sure our fans will give Roberto and his staff a wonderful and fully deserved send off at the Amex before, during and after tomorrow’s match.

“In the meantime, I’d like to thank Roberto and his staff for all their hard work in the past two seasons. They all leave our club on good terms and with our very best wishes for the future.”

Roberto de Zerbi added: “I am very sad to be leaving Brighton, but I am very proud of what my players and staff have achieved with the support of everyone at the club and our amazing fans in the past two historical seasons.

“We have agreed to end my time at Brighton so that the club and I can continue to work in the way that suits each of us best, following our own ideas and visions, as well as our work and human values.

“I have really enjoyed an intense and challenging two years working in the Premier League, not least competing in four major competitions this season. Leaving now provides me with time to take a break before deciding on my future plans.”

City looking to win in style.

4 in a row . They should get to keep the trophy & make a new one .

Manchester City player of the match Phil Foden speaking to Sky Sports: "It is so hard to put into words what we've done today. No team has ever done it [won four in a row], we have put ourselves into the history books. You see what it means to the fans and to us players working all year for this moment. A special moment to share it with the fans."

On what it means to win four in a row: "I think to win the Premier League four times, no team has ever done it before, so to do it means we are up there [with the best teams of all time]. I am just absolutely shattered to be honest."

On if they felt the nerves: "Not just me but all the lads have played in important games over the years and have got through this situation a few times as well so it certainly help with the nerves. I thought today we just looked confident and played out football. In the end it paid off."

On his strike: "Almost the perfect start. Sometimes I believe in scoring a bit too early. Luckily I got us the second and that settled us a bit. The sniper [celebration] is here to stay definitely."

On winning his sixth title: "I never get bored of it, you want this feeling every time. When you win something there is no better feeling. I want to keep winning as much as I can."

Imperious Manchester City beat West Ham 3-1 at Etihad Stadium to become the first team to win the English league title four seasons in a row.

With City needing a win to be sure of holding off Arsenal, who started the final day two points behind but with a better goal difference, Phil Foden put Pep Guardiola’s side ahead after just two minutes.

The England star added another before the break and although Mohammed Kudus pulled one back, midfielder Rodri restored the home side's two-goal cushion with a shot from the edge of the area after 59 minutes.

City survived a late scare when West Ham had a second goal ruled out by VAR for handball.

However, their victory was never seriously in doubt

The win completed a staggering run of 19 wins and four draws since their last defeat in the league, at Aston Villa on 6 December.

City have now won six out of the past seven Premier League titles. Last term, they joined Huddersfield, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United, twice, in winning the top flight three years in a row.

Now Guardiola’s team have achieved something no other side has managed since the English league was formed in 1888, 136 years ago.

On 25 May they will aim to become the first side to complete the domestic Double in successive seasons when they face Manchester United in the FA Cup final at Wembley.

Deserving Champions.

The best team, the strongest squad, the best manager.

This City team doesn't have the flair of previous City teams, but they have leaders, they are united, they have so many match-winners and of course Pep is still there.

Great achievement.

A team that will go down in history.

Guardiola's 'winning machine' have 'put ourselves in history books'

Midfielder Phil Foden said "we've put ourselves in the history books" after Manchester City won a record fourth successive Premier League title.

Foden scored twice as Pep Guardiola's side beat West Ham 3-1 on the final day to extend their unbeaten home run to 44 games in all competitions.

It means they end the campaign two points above Arsenal, with the Gunners beating Everton 2-1 on the final day.

"It's so hard to put into words what we’ve done," said Foden said after the game.

"We've put ourselves in the history books. No team has ever done it. You see what it means to the fans and what it means to us. Working all year for this moment, it’s such a special feeling to share it with the fans.

"Now we can say we are the first team to do it. I'm lost for words."

Foden got City up and running, beating goalkeeper Alphonse Areola after two minutes.

He added another before the break, and Rodri scored City's third to wrap up Foden's sixth Premier League title with his boyhood club.

"I'll never get bored of it," he said. "I want this feeling every time. When you win something there is no better feeling and I just want to keep winning as much as I can."
