Manchester City win the Premier League 2023/24 season - 1st ever team to win 4 PL titles in a row

Burnley thrashed 10-man Sheffield United to record a significant Premier League win and pile huge pressure on Blades boss Paul Heckingbottom.

The Clarets had lost their past six league games and all seven at home this term, but moved off the bottom of the table, beating their fellow relegation candidates for a priceless second victory of the season.

Striker Rodriguez's stooping header from Charlie Taylor's pinpoint cross was the fastest in the top flight this season and gave Burnley a blistering start and a lead which they did not relinquish.

On-loan winger Jacob Bruun Larsen doubled their lead with a cool finish after latching on to Dara O'Shea's long ball over the top as Burnley took total control.

The Blades were visibly frustrated and saw Oli McBurnie sent off for two moments of madness - the striker was fortunate to receive only a yellow card for an elbow into the face of O'Shea, but he inexplicably repeated the act in a separate challenge and was dismissed before half-time.

Burnley were dominant in the second period as Zeki Amdouni confidently drilled in a low finish, Luca Koleosho smashed in at the near post after hitting the woodwork and Josh Brownhill struck a fifth.

Burnley leapfrog their opponents into 18th place, two points adrift of safety, while Sheffield United remain a point off the foot of the table.

Brentford returned to winning ways with a deserved victory against Premier League strugglers Luton.

Neal Maupay put the Bees in front early in the second half when he prodded in from close range after Ben Mee scuffed a shot.

Mee did not have to wait long to get his name on the scoresheet, as his header just seven minutes later put Brentford firmly in the driving seat.

Jacob Brown gave Luton hope by halving the hosts' lead, but Shandon Baptiste calmed Brentford's nerves by restoring the two-goal cushion.

In almost an exact repeat of Luton's meeting with Crystal Palace last Saturday, there was a distinct lack of goalmouth action early on at both ends of the field at Gtech Community Stadium.

Tha drabness was summed up by the fact Hatters goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski was shown a yellow card for time-wasting in the 38th minute.

Brentford's Yegor Yarmolyuk went closest to scoring for either side before the break when his low shot was deflected narrowly wide by Luton's Carlton Morris.

But the Bees, who dominated possession without creating enough in the first period, came out with more purpose in the second period and were given an extra boost as Luton captain Tom Lockyer failed to re-emerge after sustaining an injury.

Luton had to wait until the 61st-minute to register their first attempt on or off target in the game, substitute Brown firing a speculative effort wide of goal.

Brown showed greater accuracy 15 minutes later with his second shot, Luton's first on target, when he latched on to a beautiful defence-splitting ball fro

Everton beats Nottingham Forest by a 1-0 lead. D McNeil is the man to deliver for Everton, his composed and cool tap in seals the deal for Everton. But Everton still in relegation zone.

Match report Everton vs Nottingham Forest

Dwight McNeil's clinical strike gave Everton their first win since they had 10 Premier League points deducted as they hung on to beat Nottingham Forest.

McNeil netted his first goal of the campaign at the City Ground with a crisp half-volley at the back post.

The win also helped Sean Dyche's side, bottom at kick-off after Burnley's 5-0 win over Sheffield United earlier, move off the foot of the table to 18th.
It heaps pressure on Forest boss Steve Cooper after consecutive home defeats.
Dyche said Everton's performance showed the progress his side have made after being forced to "restart" their season.
"It's a step in the right direction but there are plenty more steps to go," he told BBC Match of the Day.
"I think we're having a solid season, considering the last couple. We hit 14 points relatively early and 17 would have been a fairly healthy return.
"Of course it's changed but the mentality and the performance levels are right. I think we're looking like an improved outfit."
Forest threw everything at Everton's goal as the game headed towards the final whistle and the visitors were indebted to Jordan Pickford's late heroics.
The England goalkeeper raced off his line to make a tackle to deny Anthony Elanga and produced a fine diving save to keep an effort from Murillo.
Everton's margin of victory might have been greater had Beto not fluffed a golden chance and McNeil seen a goal-bound effort cleared off the line.
Forest, who had earlier seen Morgan Gibbs-White strike the side netting and Murillo hit the base of the post, were left to rue missed chances of their own.

Match report: Manchester United vs Newcastle United

Anthony Gordon scored the only goal as a dominant Newcastle United beat Manchester United at St James' Park.

Kieran Trippier's ball across the six-yard box was pounced upon by Gordon, who swept in at the back post.

Eddie Howe's side controlled proceedings in the first half, with Andre Onana having to be alert to deny Miguel Almiron. The visitors' goalkeeper was then helpless as Trippier's brilliant free-kick smashed against the bar.

However, the evening ended on a sour note for Newcastle as goalkeeper Nick Pope was withdrawn with six minutes remaining after injuring his shoulder.

West Ham 1-1 Crystal Palace

All over as the two sides have to settle for a point each.

Odsonne Edouard's second-half finish salvaged a Premier League point for Crystal Palace against West Ham at London Stadium.

Mohammed Kudus had opened the scoring for the Hammers after 13 minutes.

James Ward-Prowse's sublime cross-field ball was collected by Vladimir Coufal, whose cutback into the box was converted thanks to a first-time finish from the onrushing Kudus.

The Hammers were in complete control but Konstantinos Mavropanos was caught out when his poor back pass was intercepted by Edouard, who slotted home to equalise for Palace, scoring his sixth league goal of the season.

Trent Alexander-Arnold scored an 88th-minute winner as Liverpool mounted a stunning late comeback to beat Fulham in a seven-goal thriller at Anfield.

Trailing 3-2 in the 87th minute, Liverpool equalised as Wataru Endo scored his first Premier League goal and seconds later Alexander-Arnold completed the turnaround.

Alexander-Arnold had helped Liverpool open the scoring in the 20th minute when his free-kick ricocheted off the crossbar and in off Fulham keeper Bernd Leno.

Former Red Harry Wilson equalised four minutes later before Alexis Mac Allister restored Liverpool's lead after 38 minutes with a stunning long-range strike.

Kenny Tete netted Fulham's second equaliser in first-half injury time and Bobby De Cordova-Reid headed the Cottagers into the lead in the 80th minute.

Ollie Watkins headed in a 90th-minute equaliser as Aston Villa twice came from behind to draw with Bournemouth in a thrilling Premier League game.

Antoine Semenyo gave the Cherries an early lead with a smart low finish after a mistake by Diego Carlos.

Leon Bailey got Villa back on level terms after he cut in from the right and shot through a crowded area.

Dominic Solanke put Bournemouth ahead again but Watkins popped up to ensure the points were shared.

Enzo Fernandez scored twice as 10-man Chelsea held on to beat Brighton in a thriller at Stamford Bridge.

The Argentine midfielder headed the Blues in front after 17 minutes and former Brighton loanee Levi Colwill doubled the lead four minutes later with his first Chelsea goal.

Facundo Buonanotte got one back for the visitors with a superb curling effort and they were right back in the game when Chelsea skipper Conor Gallagher was shown a second yellow card and sent off on the stroke of half-time.

However, Fernandez restored Chelsea's two-goal advantage from the penalty spot midway through the second half.

Referee Craig Pawson had initially waved play on when James Milner challenged the breaking Mykhailo Mudryk inside the box but awarded the penalty after being sent to the screen by the video assistant referee.

Brighton continued to dominate possession but struggled to create the openings to really worry Chelsea until Joao Pedro pulled one back with a flicked header in the second minute of injury time.

The Seagulls were then given a penalty in the 10th additional minute for a handball by Colwill, only for VAR to intervene again and have the decision overturned as replays showed the ball hit the defender's head rather than his outstretched arm.

Victory is just Chelsea's second at home in the Premier League this season, while defeat means Brighton have now won just one of their last seven league games.

Man city vs Tottenham match still in progress. City goes into the half time by getting a one goal lead over Tottenham. HT score man city 2,Tottenham 1. Phil foden was the latest scorer for city. Still anybody's game.

It's 2-2. Lo celso puts Tottenham on par again. City still pushing hard for lead but it looks difficult now as pep substitutes foden with a defender.

Grealish scores. It's 3-2 in favor of city at the moment. Match moving into the extra time now.

Match report Manchester City vs Tottenham

Dejan’s Kulusevski's 90th minute header rescued Tottenham a point at the Etihad and ended a run of three Premier League defeats in a row as Spurs claimed a thrilling 3-3 draw against Manchester City .

Kulusevski’s towering leap denied City victory in a breathless contest, which means Pep Guardiola’s champions have now dropped points in three consecutive games following draws against Chelsea and Liverpool.

Injury-hit Spurs took the lead when Son Heung-min finished off a clinical counter-attack, but the Tottenham captain then found the net at the other end two minutes later as he diverted a free-kick into his own goal.

Ange Postecoglue’s side stuck to their bold and attacking plan despite their injury crisis and City could have been out of sight as they routinely tore the visitors apart, with Phil Foden putting them in front after the half hour.

City were wasteful, however, with Erling Haaland missing an open goal and Jeremy Doku and Julian Alvaraz striking the post, and Spurs grabbed a deserved equaliser in the second half when Giovani Lo Celso curled in.

City woke themselves up in the final stages and Jack Grealish punished a loose pass from Tottenham’s Yves Bissouma to restore their lead, before Kulusevski’s dramatic header settled the contest.

Good weekend for Arsenal with everyone else dropping points.

City won 23 PL home games in a row, now have dropped points in last 2. They are feeling some pressure.

Spurs are their bogey team

Man city go to Villa midweek, Villa have won 13 PL games in a row at home.

Arsenal play Luton, Liverpool play sheff United, so City have toughest game on paper.

Arsenal then go to Villa and also have to go to Liverpool this month. So come end Dec the table will start taking shape

No Rodri, I fancy Villa to get a result, especially with them being at home
Villa look pretty rampant at home, last season game at Villa Park end 1-1, so hopefully same again midweek.

Arsenal go to Villa at the weekend

I think at Villa Park pretty much every team will struggle to get points
I think in general more points will be dropped by title challengers in away games as Newcastle, villa, west ham, spurs, Chelsea, (up for big games) etc. Have improved a lot and are capable or already have taken points of Arsensl, city, Liverpool

Referee Simon Hooper will remain in charge of Sheffield United vs Liverpool despite Man City error

Referee Simon Hooper will be in charge of Liverpool's game at Sheffield United on Wednesday, despite his error in Manchester City's 3-3 draw with Tottenham.

It has been accepted that it was human error that saw Hooper call back a Manchester City advantage towards the end of Sunday's game.

Hooper initially allowed the game to continue after Erling Haaland was fouled, but then blew his whistle as Jack Grealish received the ball 40 yards from goal in behind the Spurs defence.

Erling Haaland is clearly fouled by Emerson Royal and referee Simon Hooper has a decision to make

Image:Erling Haaland is clearly fouled by Emerson Royal and referee Simon Hooper has a decision to make.

Hooper was stood down earlier this season after failing to award a penalty to Wolves in their 1-0 defeat at Manchester United for a challenge by Andre Onana on Sasa Kalajdzic in stoppage

Referee Hooper felt the wrath of the Etihad Stadium crowd at the full-time whistle, with Haaland remonstrating with the officials before storming down the tunnel.

The Man City striker later posted, "***", on social media in response to a clip of the incident. This is a written abbreviation which includes a swear word.

The evidence is there for all to see, he should have let play go on," said Richards. "You can see on the fourth official's face, he knows the referee has made the mistake. How can you explain it?"

Keane added: "The referee has made a mistake. It's a poor call, he's got it wrong.

"Grealish is through on goal and credit to him, he played advantage. But he's got that [the decision to bring it back] wrong. We can all see that."

Paul Heckingbottom: Sheffield United set to sack manager

Paul Heckingbottom is set to be sacked as Sheffield United manager within the next 24 hours.

The Blades, who lost 5-0 at Burnley on Saturday, are bottom of the Premier League with five points after losing 11 of their opening 14 games.

Appointed permanent manager in November 2021, Heckingbottom guided United to the top flight with a second-place Championship finish last season.

Former manager Chris Wilder is among the leading contenders to take over.

Following defeat at Burnley, Heckingbottom criticised the club for making "financial rather than football decisions" by selling key players in the summer following promotion.

The 46-year-old said United were "let down" by some of his players at Burnley, who had never won a Premier League game by five goals. Victory lifted them off the bottom of the table at United's expense.

United are four points from safety, have won only once this season and have a goal difference of minus 28.

They host second-placed Liverpool at Bramall Lane on Wednesday.

Heckingbottom's scheduled news conference was cancelled on Monday.

It won't be a surprise at all. They have managed only 1 win in the 14 matches and they are at the bottom of the table. Any kind of decision must be taken in time to turn things around in the remainder of the season.

Premier League agrees record £6.7bn domestic TV rights deal

The Premier League has agreed a new record £6.7bn domestic television deal for Sky and TNT to show 270 live games a season.

The deal includes the BBC continuing to show highlights on Match of the Day.

The top flight said the deal, which covers the four years from the 2025-26 season, is the "largest sports media rights deal ever concluded in the UK".

The Saturday afternoon 3pm blackout will remain in place, but every 2pm Sunday kick-off will be televised.

The BBC has also been awarded additional digital rights for its online platforms.

Sky has been awarded four of the five packages and will show a minimum of 215 matches a season including all Saturday 5.30pm kick-offs, Sunday 2pm and 4.30pm kick-offs, plus games on Mondays and Fridays and three midweek rounds.

TNT will show a minimum of 52 matches a season including all 12.30pm kick-offs on Saturdays and two midweek match rounds.

Sky Sports will also broadcast all 10 matches on the final day of each season.

Amazon, which shows 20 matches per season under the league's current deal, has not secured rights in the new agreement.

This is the first time the Premier League has been through a tender process for its rights since 2018.

The current £5bn domestic TV rights deal, which expires at the end of the 2024-25 season, was allowed to be extended because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

"The outcome of this process underlines the strength of the Premier League and is testament to our clubs, players and managers who continue to deliver the world's most competitive football in full stadiums, and to supporters, who create an unrivalled atmosphere every week," said Premier League chief executive Richard Masters.

BREAKING: Paul Heckingbottom has been sacked by Sheffield United, the club have officially confirmed

Sheffield United have confirmed that returning manager Chris Wilder has signed a contract until the summer of 2025.

The Blades were Wilder's boyhood club and he went on to play for them then manage them between 2016 and 2021.

He said: "Quite simply, it was an opportunity which I just couldn't turn down. Just like in 2016, when this club comes calling, it is not something you pass up.

"This is Sheffield United, it is my team and I am thrilled to be back. We find ourselves in a difficult position, I understand that, but I think I can make a difference.

"When I received the call from Stephen [Bettis] asking if I would consider coming back to try to help, I didn't have to think about it. People know what this club means to me, and the task now is to try to provide a boost to improve our current situation.

"My relationship with [club owner] Prince Abdullah and the board was repaired a long time ago. After some time passed following my initial departure, we spoke, met in person and there was an amicable ending. Now, coming back as manager, to know there is a united front again is crucial as we look to work together to improve the club's position in the Premier League."

He will be assisted by Alan Knill, Matt Prestridge and former Republic of Ireland international Keith Andrews, with all set to be in the dugout for Wednesday's game against Liverpool.

Hwang Hee-chan scored a first-half winner as Wolves edged past relegation-threatened Burnley at Molineux.

The Clarets had come into the game on the back of Saturday's moral-boosting 5-0 thrashing of Sheffield United, but failed to back up that impressive showing and were left to rue a costly defensive error.

On a chilly evening in the Midlands, the contest failed to spark into life until the 38th minute when stand-in goalkeeper Daniel Bentley made a fine double save to deny Jay Rodriguez then Josh Brownhill's follow-up at full stretch.

Having been in a position to lead, the visitors then conceded at the other end shortly after as Sander Berge's heavy touch was picked off by Matheus Cunha, who fed Hwang to slot a composed finish.

The Clarets sought for the equaliser in the second half but were unable to trouble Bentley, with Vitinho's effort from outside the area which sailed over the closest they came to claiming a point.

Wolves held on to secure their first win in three games and move up to 12th in the table, while Burnley remain in trouble in the bottom three.

Teenager Jack Hinshelwood's first senior goal helped Brighton come from behind to claim victory over Brentford, who lost top scorer Bryan Mbeumo to injury.

The Bees took the lead against the run of play when Mbeumo coolly slotted home a 27th-minute penalty after Jan Paul van Hecke fouled Vitaly Janelt.

But Brighton only trailed for four minutes as Pascal Gross struck a fierce drive past Mark Flekken, before Mbeumo departed with a leg injury shortly afterwards.

Hinshelwood, 18, came to the fore early in the second half as he cleared off the line from Yoane Wissa before heading home Gross' lofted cross to give the hosts only their second Premier League win in nine matches.

Bournemouth continued their impressive run of form as they beat Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park to claim their third win in four Premier League games.

Marcos Senesi was left unmarked to head in at the far post midway through the first half after Ryan Christie's corner was flicked on by Luis Sinisterra.

After offering next to no threat in the second half, Bournemouth made sure of the win in stoppage time when Kieffer Moore stooped to head home the second after a sharp counter-attack.

There were chances at both ends in a lively start, with Palace forward Jordan Ayew's shot turned over the bar and Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo's effort tipped around the post prior to Senesi's opener.

Palace had the opportunity to hit back almost immediately after going behind, when Ayew's shot was pushed out by Cherries goalkeeper Neto but Odsonne Edouard lost his feet at the crucial moment with the goal at his mercy as he followed in for the rebound.

Roy Hodgson's side dominated possession without offering much of a threat for the rest of the first half but were inches away from an equaliser soon after the break.

The ball was chipped over the top for Jefferson Lerma but the former Bournemouth midfielder's fierce strike came back off the post.

That was as close as Palace came though as they failed to register a shot on target in the second half. Bournemouth were happy to sit back and let the home side try to break them down.

They rarely looked likely to do so and Andoni Iraola's side secured the three points in the first minute of added time as Moore met Philip Billing's cross at the back post.

While Bournemouth's form is on the up, defeat for Palace is their fifth in seven league games.

Nottingham Forest fans issued firm backing to manager Steve Cooper despite watching their side suffer a five-goal demolition by Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Alex Iwobi and Raul Jimenez each scored twice as Fulham netted three goals or more in three successive top-flight games for the first time since 1966.

Despite being well beaten and failing to register a single shot on target, Forest fans showed their support for under-fire Cooper as they roared the Welshman's name even after the fourth strike hit the back of the net, sending a clear message to owner Evangelos Marinakis in the stands.

Iwobi set the Cottagers on their way to victory after 30 minutes when he beat the offside trap to convert Willian's beautifully whipped cross, before Jimenez doubled the lead four minutes later by firing emphatically into the top right corner.

The Mexican forward showed strength and composure to grab his second and Fulham's third early in the second half, shrugging off Forest defender Ola Aina, rounding goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos and then dispatching a cheeky back-heel

Iwobi found was allowed far too much space in the box and met Harry Wilson's cross to score Fulham's fourth, and the scoring was rounded off by substitute Tom Cairney late on as Forest's defence was nowhere to be seen.

The win moves Fulham up to 12th with an 11-point cushion to the relegation zone, while Forest - with just one win in their last 11 matches in the Premier League - are three points further back in 16th.

Liverpool spoiled Chris Wilder's Bramall Lane homecoming to remain hot on the heels of Premier League leaders Arsenal.

Wilder, who led Sheffield United to two promotions in a five-year reign before an unceremonious departure in 2021, received a raucous reaction from the Blades faithful on his return to the dugout.

However, Virgil van Dijk swept home a side-footed volley from Trent Alexander-Arnold's corner to quell the vociferous home support despite Blades appeals he had fouled Anel Ahmedhodzic prior to doing so.

There was also an element of controversy about the Reds' second goal in stoppage time as Darwin Nunez's hefty challenge on Jayden Bogle was deemed fair in the build-up to Dominik Szoboszlai's cool finish.

Liverpool, beaten just once in the league this season when their nine men lost in stoppage time at Tottenham, move back to within two points of the table-topping Gunners.

The Blades, meanwhile, remain bottom, four points from safety, after a 12th loss in 15 league games, although Wilder will take heart from a competitive performance in defeat against the second-placed Reds.

Leon Bailey's deflected shot gave Aston Villa a fully deserved victory over Manchester City as the visitors' recent slump in form continued.

Villa were superior throughout against the lacklustre champions, who have now gone four Premier League games without a win for the first time in more than seven years.

City once again missed the influence of the suspended Rodri, having lost their last five games when the Spaniard has been unavailable, but nothing must detract from an outstanding Villa performance which confirmed their stunning development under the management of Unai Emery.

Villa were fearless going forward from the outset, with City keeper Ederson making two fine early saves from Paul Torres and Bailey, while opposite number Emi Martinez did superbly to deny Erling Haaland twice in quick succession.

City lacked composure and were ran ragged at times, and the Villa breakthrough came 16 minutes from time when Bailey's shot from the edge of the area took a touch off Ruben Dias as it looped beyond the helpless Ederson.

The win moves Villa, who have now won 14 consecutive home Premier League matches, into third place in the table, while City are six points adrift of leaders Arsenal.

For the second time this season, Scott McTominay scored twice at Old Trafford to secure a precious victory for Manchester United and ease the pressure on manager Erik ten Hag.

The Scotland midfielder's latest effort against Chelsea was not as thrilling as the two he scored in injury-time to beat Brentford in October.

But on a night when United contrived to waste a succession of chances - including a Bruno Fernandes penalty - amid a total of 28 shots, it was just as welcome.

McTominay's first effort was an instinctive strike from 12 yards as the rebound from Harry Maguire's blocked header bounced kindly for him.

Then, after Cole Palmer had levelled just before the break, McTominay stole in at the far post to power home Alejandro Garnacho's cross 21 minutes from time.

He should have had a first career hat-trick after being set up by Antony but scuffed his finish into the ground.

In the end, it didn't matter, as United survived late Chelsea pressure, including substitute Armando Broja heading against a post.

It was just over 15 years since these two met in a Champions League final, part of a seven-year period where one or the other ended up as Premier League title winners.

The bragging rights on this occasion only secured the hosts a move up to sixth spot, while the visitors remained 10th.

It also extended United's recent dominance in these matches to 12 games, while Chelsea's wait for an away win will now extend beyond 11 years.

Everton scored three times in the final 11 minutes to beat Newcastle in a hectic encounter and move out of the Premier League's relegation zone.

The Toffees were sent tumbling into the bottom three by their 10 points deduction for breaking the top flight's financial rules, but moved back into safety thanks to late goals from Dwight McNeil, Abdoulaye Doucoure and summer signing Beto.

The hosts punished a pair of mistakes from Kieran Trippier, the first coming as McNeil pounced on a poor touch, drove forward forward and thumped a deflected effort into the net, before Doucoure coolly slotted home seven minutes later.

Beto then ran clear during ten minutes of stoppage time and slid home his first league goal to make sure of the points as the home supporters wildly celebrated a deserved victory.

The Blues looked to be heading for a miserable night in front of goal having spurned a number of good chances in the opening period.

The returning Dominic Calvert-Lewin was unable to convert the best of those, controlling Jarrad Branthwaite's flick on onto his chest and volleying over from four yards out.

Newcastle had openings in the first half too but Trippier's free-kick and Miguel Almiron's scuffed effort after darting through were both kept out by Jordan Pickford.

In the second half the returning Anthony Gordon, who was jeered by the home supporters throughout the game, should have silenced the Goodison crowd when he picked off James Tarkowski's loose touch on the edge of the area but only stuck a low shot straight at Pickford.

Those three late goals mean the Toffees claw themselves out of the drop zone by leapfrogging Luton into 17th place, as Newcastle remain seventh behind Manchester United.

West Ham United continued their fine run of form as a second-half comeback at Tottenham, who dropped points from a winning position for a fifth consecutive game.

Cristian Romero's early header had given Spurs a deserved opener in the 11th minute as the defender nodded in Pedro Porro's corner with a looping effort.

But Jarrod Bowen hit back for the Hammers, latching on to a loose ball in the penalty area and firing in a 52nd-minute equaliser.

And, after a poor backpass from Spurs defender Destiny Udogie, James Ward-Prowse side-footed an effort against the post before knocking in the rebound to complete West Ham's turnaround in the 74th minute.

It means West Ham continued their purple patch, having won five of their past six fixtures across all competitions.

Tottenham meanwhile suffered their fourth defeat in five and have not won since October.

Mohamed Salah scored his 200th Liverpool goal as Jurgen Klopp's side produced a late comeback against 10-man Crystal Palace to move top of the Premier League and increase the pressure on former boss Roy Hodgson.

Salah became only the fifth player to reach that landmark for the club, joining Ian Rush, Roger Hunt, Gordon Hodgson and Billy Liddell, when he ignited the fightback with a 76th-minute equaliser.

It was Harvey Elliott who delivered the decisive moment inside the first of 10 minutes of added time, producing a stunning strike from the edge of the penalty area to lift Liverpool above Arsenal.

Salah's goal arrived just 98 seconds after Jordan Ayew was dismissed for a second bookable offence, and the visitors had failed to land a shot on target prior to that moment.

Palace, booed off by their supporters following a disappointing home loss to Bournemouth on Wednesday, were on course to deliver a surprise blow to the Red's title aspirations following Jean-Philippe Mateta's penalty.

The game had continued for more than one minute after Jarell Quansah caught Mateta when attempting to clear a cross before the video assistant referee intervened - but referee Andy Madley did not take long to award Palace a spot-kick after being sent to the pitchside monitor.

Palace had seen a penalty decision in their favour overturned during the first half when Madley took three minutes to review a challenge by Will Hughes on Endo in the lead-up to Virgil van Dijk's foul on Odsonne Edouard inside the box.

Liverpool, though dominant, struggled throughout to break the hosts down and the returning Alisson came to his side's rescue in stunning fashion in the first half when he pushed Jefferson Lerma's first-time shot on to the post.

Having eventually ended Palace's spirited resistance, victory took the Reds one point above last season's runners-up Arsenal, who travel to third-placed Aston Villa later on Saturday (17:30 GMT).

Wolverhampton Wanderers vs Nottingham Forest

The full-time whistle sounds as Forest hold on for a 1-1 draw at Molineux, stopping the rot after suffering four successive Premier League defeats. They took the lead early on when Toffolo nodded home at the back post, only to be pegged back when Cunha slotted Sarabia's cutback home in the 32nd minute. Chances were few and far between in the second half, with Wolves enjoying plenty of possession late on but struggling to open Forest up, with Turner denying Cunha with a solid save from their best chance for a winner. Will that point be enough for Cooper to still be in charge when Forest host Tottenham on Friday? We'll see in the coming days. Wolves have eight days to rest up ahead of their next game, at West Ham next Sunday. That's all from Molineux

Palace was very tough to travel today, the small stadium , the wind , early start and up against a very energetic team. Liverpool couldn't find a way through at all, it seemed like 6/7 men behind the ball at all times.

What Klopp has done is made his players super fit, their stamina is second to none in the world. Teams tire especially if they are chasing and this is where Liverpool take advantage. I always thought we'd score one but Harvey Elliot's brilliant run and finish was need to secure the win.

Its not to dissimilar to the season we won the league, coming back or scoring late goals. The team always believes it will win the match.

With Man Utd and Arsenal due to Anfield soon, its a great chance to cement the top spot by Xmas.

Manchester United suffered another dismal Premier League defeat as Bournemouth piled the misery on Erik ten Hag with their first ever victory at Old Trafford.

You need competition for places - Ten Hag
Manchester United suffered another dismal Premier League defeat as Bournemouth piled the misery on Erik ten Hag with their first ever victory at Old Trafford.

The visitors deservedly won 3-0 thanks to goals from Dominic Solanke, Philip Billing and Marcos Senesi as United’s awful Premier League campaign went from bad to worse with their eighth defeat already this season.

It’s also a nightmare start to a crucial week for United manager Ten Hag, whose side host Bayern Munich in a must-win Champions League group-stage finale on Tuesday before visiting Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

Ten Hag had left Rasmus Hojlund on the bench in favour of Anthony Martial, as well as leaving Marcus Rashford out of his line-up for a second consecutive match.

But the changes backfired as superb Bournemouth raced to a stunning victory - and their margin of victory could have been even greater after Dango Ouattara had a fourth disallowed for handball late on.

I thought u predicted Arsenal to win league at start of season
I did but I think the past few weeks have changed my mind and as mentioned in the other chat Liverpool have had the tougher fixtures

So for them to be first (as things stand) and a better set of fixtures to come, and they are now creating this psychological edge that even in adversity they are finding ways to win

Liverpool are still in all 4 competitions, the key for them will be how they cope in January-February with no salah as he will be at Afcons. Liverpool play Arsenal in FA Cup in Jan and in PL at start of Feb, salah could miss both.

Yes all there other forwards can do a job, they do need to sign a CB and a DM.

But I did think Liverpool would be strong this season if they fixed their midfield which they have. That's why I predicted them 2nd at start of season.
