Amoeba said:Don't think that Shoaib has done enough to move from the possibles to probables. The fact that both Afridi and Shabbir played for the Pakistan XI highlights that this is the current favoured team. The selection is not based on getting the best Pak batters to face the best Pak bowlers or as preparation to face Harmy and Flintoff as has been suggested. If that was the case then Shabbir, with his height and action, would have been in the ROP team as he closely matches Harmy in Stature and Super Freddie for his throwing skills.![]()
Therefore merely being competent or bowling 20 overs is not enough to force a player from the fringes into the team. With Abdul Razzaq out it opens up another opportunity. Personally I think at this stage the selectors are probably thinking of the following team:-
Butt
Malik
Younis
Inzy
Yousuf
Afridi
Kamal
Sami
Rana
Shabbir
Kaneria
Suddenly doesn't look at all strong enough with poor or inexperienced openers and a longish tail.

Maybe - alternatively they may pick an extra batter as insurance rather than a third seamer. They would still have Afridi, Kaneria and Malik to bowl spin. The point though is that from the selection of the two teams it is apparent that the Management see Shoaib (and Mushy) as on the fringes of their current team. Certainly not definates. Therefore to gain selection they have to outperform the others. Mushy has done that but simply bowling 20 overs is not good enough at this stage for Shoaib. He is not the man in possession of a place - a fact that some can't seem to get their heads around on this board- therefore he needs a big performance soon.
Big Daddy said:check his first class average and then tell me why he was picked ahead of more seasoned performers . in pakistani culture ,if u have a gold name backing u , then can even be a prime minister . baynazeer bhutto is an example that comes to mind straight up.
Master-P said:That doesn't matter now, all that matters is what he shows woolmer now, and at the moment he is showing some form that alot of other batsmen havn't done so far.
I've always thought he had a chance to make it after seeing him bat, and despite the seeming lack of reaction elsewhere, i was really impressed by what i saw in the warm up games when Pak toured England last time.fair_play said:Fantastic on Faisal Iqbal - showing a bit of grit after being down for so long.
Also got a 100 not so long ago, now showing good form.
True, but I doubt Afridi will be dropped - Afridi's been one of our best bowlers, never mind the fact that he's been batting well and fielding well. I'd personally give him a sure place anyway.desidude said:However, if Mushy is being picked that will certainly take Afridi out of the race from the above slots.
Raz said:Well bowled Shahid Afridi and Mohammad Sami. Good performances also from Faisal and Misbah.
Monsee said:So was Sami ALSO 'BREATHTAKINGLY BRILLIANT' or what![]()
Big Daddy said:I disagree with ur team , selectors wont bet on pace, coz that would mean we would play playing into england's strength , which is pace bowling these days.
Amjid Javed said:on the flip side expect double tons from faisal iqbal and misbah ul haq against the world class attack of sami/razzaq![]()
Easatheman said:yo, you dont even have a keeper
Big Daddy said:here is the team i meantioned
so going on this scale , the team would be , mind u its not my team , but logically it would be
malik
butt/taufeeq/farhat
yk
yoyo
inzi
afridi
akmal
shoaib
sami
kaneria
mushy
i guess there are all indications now on how the wicket will be , a dust bowl!!!!!!
p.s. i dont kno about u guys but this batting lineup to me looks very shabby
now can u see akmal , i had him before also , kamran akmal stands behind the wicket with gloves on , granted is not as loud as moin , but does a decent job. now tell me what made u think that the team i wrote down didnt have a keeper?
zulfiqar said:woah where have I been? Didn't know there's this game going on ^^ What's the word on Shoaib? It seems he bowled 20 overs, more than anyone besides the spinners.. only 1 wicket though. Ne word on his fitness.. sry didn't browse through the 10 pages![]()
Monsee said:Care to share that info with us cause as far as I am concerned, it sure is not public knowledge that Malik has been getting ducks and low scores
Were these games played in a different universe![]()
Amjid Javed said:) i knew these 2 wud get runs!
Elan Tedronai said:if faisal iqbal displaces consistent asim(who done good so far in the REAL GAMES) or hasan raza who has done well up to now then the whole set up is frankly a joke.
Elan Tedronai said:have a look at the warm up games he played earlier.look at the recent aus a tour test games and odis.
he only scored a good 100 in the second odi game vs aus a.
Big Daddy said:shoaib 6 overs 3 maidens 6 runs 3 wickets.

Amoeba said:"The haterz" say well done and hopefully he can do the same consistently in the Test match series. Us posters are all on the same team - we want Pakistan to win - just disagree about the best approach and personnel to do that.
Having said that however we cannot read too much into Shoaib taking the wickets of Afridi, Akmal and Kamal in a warm-up game which is meandering to a draw as to his prospects against Strauss, Pieterson & Flintoff.

Big Daddy said:man , 3 wickets in 6 overs for 6 runs , on a wicket where bowlers were treated to a buffet run smack feast . even that isnt enuff to melt u ?
Marooned said:) His prospects? And who are we comparing to? Gul ? Asif ? Khalil may be? or even Shabbir ?
When you talk fitness that's fine I can understand but a fit Shoaib compared to these other options in really not a comparison. Sorry but that doesn't make sense and your 'hatred' for him shows up.
Amoeba said:Not sure I understand what point you are making. I am not comparing him to anyone - not our other seamers. If you want to say that he is our best seamer then fine that's your opinion. However the point I was making, and it seems that I have to spell it out, is that you can't read too much into a practice game as how the players will fare against the big boys. Take Malik as an example - do we all expect him to flay Flintoff, Harmy & Hoggard to all parts now that he has scored a big hundred in a warm-up game? He may be our best option - but that still doesn't make him an accompolished opener.
umarbeast said:Did anybody notice they added Bazid Khan's 77 to the scorecard??? Must of missed putting it in the first update. Good performance by Bazid Khan and very well done Shoaib Akthar. Can anybody confirm if bowled all the overs in a shorter run up?????![]()
