They are ahead because toss decides the game with that horrible minefield chennai call a pitch. Would be a wonderful thing if IPL take away the final from chennai.
 
I feel speed gun in IPL this year seems unreliable. I used Shami as reference. He is usually fast, but in IPL seems to bowl 145k with ease.

What is so hard to believe? Shami has clocked these speeds before. Just like in the PSL where Pakistani bowlers like Shaheen etc. were clocking 147 kph over 4 over spells. Shami was clocking 146 kph even in his third and fourth spells in test cricket let alone in this format.

Are you surprised? I predicted 2-3 key players to get injured before the world cup and during IPL. If Rohit is injured we can say goodbye to World Cup. Dhawan is already not in form. #ThankYouIPL :inti
 
Injury can happen any time! (Even during the practice matches/sessions of WC). So what you need to do? Sit idle for 2 to 3 months before WC just scared of getting injured? (And grow your belly meanwhile?) In the past, we didn't had sufficient bench strength to replace injured players, so had to stay with bad luck!

You can criticize IPL for other reasons but not for getting injured! Teams are supposed to play one form of cricket or other to stay match fit till the last month before WC...!

I agree that they should have had IPL during winter this time without clashing with WC & General Elections. (Still they should have played some international matches ideally outside India) But I can understand the sentiments of some members here that they want to ban IPL completely!
 
Ok so Rohit is injured. Dhawan is out of form. Kohli is low on confidence. Bumrah has injury scare. Rest are useless anyways (as displayed in champions trophy final). Our chances to make finals of world cup are gone.

True. Fearing injury the players should not even practice or what? Blaming IPL is just a fashion. If no IPL existed the players would have played some form of cricket or not practice somwhere or other and got injured there as well. One man's bad luck could well turn into opportunity for other. Shaw or Pant or Raul could be tried out and who knows they may do better. It's not that every match rohit plays is won and he scores a century every game. There are others equally talented. Injury in sports is a fact and team needs to be prepared. Blaming IPL is convenient for some posters. Before ipl, did India win every world cup it participated?

You are indeed talking like a fan of some associate team. All of the teams try their best to win the world cup. According to your logic New Zealand, South Africa and others who haven't won the world cup shouldn't care about it anymore too. Hopefully glory hunters like you will not watch the world cup. :inti

remember how Praveen Kumar missed 2011 world cup.. he was celebrating for his selection and then accident happened.. so you can't really blame IPL for injury..
 
Sam curran's pace was adequate for pollard & curran also missed Yorkers under pressure. Good learning curve for him.
 
Uncapped Aussie quick earns IPL deal

Young Perth Scorchers quick Matt Kelly has earned a shock contract in the Indian Premier League, signed as a replacement player by the Kolkata Knight Riders.

The 24-year-old, who was lauded with his brilliant death bowling for the Scorchers this season, replaces injured South African fast bowler Anrich Nortje in the Kolkata squad.

KKR’s assistant coach is fellow Western Australian Simon Katich, who was clearly impressed enough by Kelly’s performances in the BBL to convince head coach Jacques Kallis that he was worth signing for the rest of the season.

The right-armer has played just 12 senior T20 matches, seven of which came during BBL|08, where he took 11 wickets at an economy rate of 7.74.

Where Kelly impressed the most in the Big Bash was bowling at the death, his ability to execute fast and accurate yorkers in the late overs clearly impressing the KKR coaching staff.

He also impressed World Cup winner and former national selector Mark Waugh, who this week suggested Kelly should be in the mix for Australia's World Cup squad.

“I’ve got one bolter from Western Australia, Matt Kelly, who no one’s spoken about,” Waugh told Big Sports Breakfast radio program.

“One thing we do lack slightly is a really good death bowler — a guy who can bowl yorkers at the end of the innings and he’s really good at that.

“He played for the Scorchers and WA. He’s a bit of a smoky but I’d have him the mix.”

Kelly will join superstar players like Andre Russell and Chris Lynn at the Knight Riders, who currently sit second on the ladder.

Kelly also has 54 wickets in 16 JLT Sheffield Shield matches for WA, including figures of 6-67 against South Australia last month.

Kings XI Punjab captain Ravichandran Ashwinsays the team’s in-form swashbuckler Chris Gayle “twisted his back” during the three-wicket loss to Mumbai Indians in an IPL game which required his side to be “steelier and smarter” than what it was. (READ: I have a lot of cricket left in me – Pollard)

Kieron Pollard’s 31-ball 83 decimated Punjab hut the visiting side also had its share of stellar batting performances, by Gayle (63 off 36 balls) and K L Rahul (100 not out off 64 balls).

“He (Gayle) said he twisted his back. We have to go check and how he is,” Ashwin said of the 39-year-old destructive West Indian batsman.

Gayle did not take the field during Mumbai Indians’ successful run chase and KXIP coach Sridharan Sriram also said the Jamaican needs to be monitored over the next few days.

“He felt a twitch in the back – that’s what he said. We need to assess and monitor what he’s going to do over the next couple of days,” he said

In another injury worry for KXIP, Ashwin said medium pacer Ankit Rajpoot, who went for 52 runs in his four overs yielding just one wicket, has a niggle too.

“He (Ankit Rajpoot) injured his finger in the first over. It was a big bonus that we got three overs from him in the powerplay. We were a bit up and down with our fielding and catching,” Ashwin said assessing the team’s performance after seven matches, four of them wins.

“Probably if we would have been sharper, we would have ended up on the right side. I think it was a defendable total. It was just about par. It is a hard defending ground,” said the senior off-spinner when asked whether 197 was a big enough total.

Ashwin felt the team lost momentum after a great start but conceded that Pollard was the major difference between the two sides.

“We were about 10s for 10-12 overs and then we lost a little momentum while batting which I feel was crucial for us. I thought we pretty good as a bowling unit in bits and pieces,” he reflected.

“At the end of the day Pollard batted beautifully and took the game away from us…We could have been a little more steelier and smarter with our plans,” he said

Lets see. Another opportunity for MS Dhoni to do the finisher role.

CSK 27/4 and they are chasing 152. Not a huge total. Pollard did the finishing job for MI from a similar position. Can MSD do it. He already failed miserably once when chasing a similar total with the asking rate around 8.
 
What a poor umpiring in last over, still smh on Dhoni though... Why would he come to ground to confront the umpire?

No ball given by the umpire but then it isn't called. So Dhoni walks on to the field. Best league in the world though am I right!
 
Umpires tried their best but couldn't do jack in the end. THALA Dhoni's CSK ku Whistlepodu!!!! 👏👏👏

He is the biggest pretender in Indian cricket. Lost his capability like 5 years back but still sticking like a bone. Have you ever seen Dhoni so animated as test captain when we were losing left and right overseas under him? He cares for IPL as if his life is dependent on it.

Too much time taken to bowl last over with all that drama stokes put extreme pressure on himself
 
Stokes still lacks adequate bowling control in limited overs cricket & often slips out wides.

England better use him aggressively in middle overs or maybe in power play in the world cup.
England must pick both archer and tom curran in the squad if they want to settle their death bowling.
 
today's was one crazy game.. Jadeja's falling six to umpires 'no' no ball call, Stokes failed in last over once again...
 
For RR, they've to save 3 overs from Archer to death.. and they should bowl out Dhawal Kulkarni inside 12 overs.. he actually good at with new ball but his pace is not suited for death overs..
 
MSD was right to walk in given the state of shocking umpiring. Umpiring has been crap in the few IPL matches I watched.

Mumbai Indians have 4 wins, 3 of them have been because of **** poor umpiring in their favor essentially cheating their way to 3 wins in close games

It was wrong from dhoni. Jadeja & santner were there to argue with umpire. Bruce Oxenford the square leg umpire was right to not to call it no ball.
 
If the umpire hadn't called it in the first place the players wouldn't have complained as much as they did.

MS Dhoni reprimanded for confrontation with umpires

Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni has been fined 50 percent of his match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team’s match against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur. Dhoni admitted to the Level 2 offence 2.20 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction.

The incident took place in the last over of the Chennai innings. With eight runs required off the last three ball, Ben Stokes bowled slower full toss. While leg umpire Bruce Oxenford didn’t raise his arm, Ulhas Gandhe did and the buzzer also went off in the stadium which signifies that a no-ball has been called. But seeing Oxenford’s reaction, Gandhe then dropped his arm and changed the earlier call. (WATCH: Dhoni’s 100th IPL win)

This saw Dhoni storm into the field and have a long chat with both the umpires. In fact, he was seen constantly saying that Gandhe did call it a no-ball before the decision was overturned. Rajasthan Royals allrounder Stokes – the bowler in the episode – also joined in and a disappointed Dhoni finally walked back to the dugout. But CSK had the last laugh as Santner hit a six off the last ball to win the game for Chennai.

While no mention of the episode was made during the post-match presentation by either Murali Karthik or Dhoni, former Australia pacer Brett Lee said that the CSK skipper should have avoided stepping onto the field.

Absolutely not on from Dhoni, mightily displeased with him walking onto the field. Surely, the two batsmen out there weren´t toddlers who couldn´t explain themselves to the umpire. He just had a bad moment there but whichever way you take it, I didn´t expect that from MS. Even yesterday he was otherwise being his usual self, epitomised by his absolute lack of celebration at clinching such a thriller, but I´ve no idea what just happened to him there. By the way, why wasn´t the no-ball referred to the TV umpire? I mean, this was a unique case where one of the umpires had called it a no-ball before it was revoked by the square-leg umpire. So it should´ve been checked. I only saw one brief replay and it did for a moment suggest of it being a no-ball. God knows.....

Either way, MS in excellent form. A couple of Man of the Match performances to go with a couple of other good cameos. A good innings yesterday under pressure, although him not being able to finish it means that he won´t be mentioned with as much credit for this one. He wasn´t fully fit though, and Stokes bowled one gem of a yorker to dislodge him. He deserves credit for the running in the 19th over though, as those ones and twos really got them nearer to the target.

That six by Jadeja in the last over was hilarious man:)))! Both the batsman as well as the bowler were down on the ground, looking from there as to where the ball goes. Reminded me of a dialogue by Ajay Devgan from film 'Khakhee' (2004); "Maarney waala bhi royei aur maar khaaney waala bhi." :))

MS Dhoni, the Chennai Super Kings captain, has been fined 50% of his match fees for a code of conduct breach during his team's match against Rajasthan Royals in the 2019 Indian Premier League.

Dhoni, whose measured knock of 58 on Thursday, 11 April, was instrumental in Chennai's tense win at the Sawai Mansingh stadium in Jaipur, was penalised for storming onto the field in an uncharacteristic outburst over a no-ball decision in the final over of a close match.

Chennai needed 18 to win at the start of the over and managed to reduce the equation to eight from four before Dhoni was bowled off a yorker on the third legitimate ball. Ben Stokes then bowled what appeared to be a waist-high full toss to Mitchell Santner, the new batsman. Umpire Ulhas Gandhe, who was at the bowler's end, signalled a no-ball for height, but his colleague at square-leg, Bruce Oxenford, overturned the decision.

The drama led to confusion among the Chennai batsmen. Dhoni, who appeared agitated at the sidelines, joined the confrontation on the field and was seen animatedly gesticulating to the umpires.

He subsequently admitted to a Level 2 offence of the IPL’s Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction. The 50% fine levied on Dhoni is the minimum sanction for a first-time Level 2 offence. Article 2.20 of the IPL's Code of Conduct, under which he was penalised, refers to actions that are contrary to the spirit of the game.

Stephen Fleming, the Chennai coach, defended the usually calm 'Captain Cool' at the post-match press conference. "My understanding in discussing it with the captain was that there was a no-ball called, and then there was confusion," he said.

MS was after some clarity and it didn't seem to be coming, so he took the opportunity to go out and discuss it with the umpires.

I am with you he should be banned for the remaining IPL. This will keep him fresh and hungry for the World Cup which is a more serious tournament than any Pyjama League can ever dream of becoming. :inti
 
India badly need Dhwaan for the WC. But after that I think he will be moved on.

It's important he gets into form asap though due to India's weak middle order.
 
Karthik has done a decent job for KKR. When he was appointed I thought it was a hilarious decision but he has done well .

KKR are a very good team and have players in the right roles.
 
South Africa quick Dale Steyn is set to join Royal Challengers Bangalore as a replacement for Nathan Coulter-Nile, the Australian having pulled out with a stiff back.

Steyn will return to the Bangalore franchise for the first time since 2010. This also marks his return to the league after a gap of two seasons; He last played one match for Gujurat Lions in the 2016 edition.

Steyn pulled out from the 2017 auction after sustaining a major shoulder injury, and subsequently went unsold in the 2018 and 2019 auctions.

Coulter-Nile missed the start of the IPL 2019 season owing to national commitments as Australia clean-swept Pakistan in UAE in a five-match one-day international series, but now will be able to take no part in the tournament. He was initially due to join the team on 13 April.

Coulter-Nile has bloomed with the ball recently, and this fresh setback will be a concern for Australia, who are set to announce their ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2019 squad on 15 April.

Bangalore have lost each of their six matches this season, and their hopes of making the playoffs rest on a miracle. The team will hope that Steyn's arrival will help resurrect their campaign.

Bhaag Viru bro in a strange situation now. First he backed Dhoni like no tomorrow bcoz he knows Dhoni past his sell date and wont cause much headache to opposition. Now Dhoni himself considers IPL more important and shows more jazba than in internationals.

RCB has to go all out and try to win this. This win is necessary for them as a prestige issue.
