Muslim Nurses Take Over Church Inside Lahore Hospital, Threaten Christian Nurses

LAHORE: Muslim nurses at Punjab Institute for Mental Health last Tuesday took over the church at the hospital that was used for service on Sundays reportedly after a controversial video uploaded against Pakistan by an unidentified person from France. The contents of the video are not being shared here to avoid further controversy.

The Muslim nurses at the hospital were so infuriated, they took over the church and threatened their Christian colleagues with blasphemy cases if they failed to raze the church and convert to Islam.

The dispute went on for almost two weeks after which a 15-member negotiating team brokered an agreement with the help of senior doctors and Father James Chaman. The two parties agreed that there would be no further statements issued from and the parties won’t file any further complaints against each other.

It has been reported that although the two parties have reached a compromise, the police and relevant authorities are closely monitoring the situation.

Political rights activist and Huqooq-e-Khalq Movement leader Dr Ammar Ali Jan wrote on Twitter that ‘the government had failed to take action against members belonging to majority community who attacked victims belonging to a minority community. Victims were left with no choice but to compromise with the aggressors.’

A complete blackout of this news on Pakistani new channel. In fact, for the past two years, attacks against minorities are not being reported on TV channels nor do we hear any condemnation from the government of such attacks.

This is a third incident involving Christian nurses in the past two months or so.

Last month, two nurses were attacked by a mob and charged with blasphemy after removing a sticker with Islamic text on it from their lockers. They are expected to remain behind bars for years because no lawyer is willing to take up a blasphemy-related case nor is any judge is willing to hear a blasphemy case.

I wouldn’t call these nurses educated per we. They have at most done some 18 month nursing course and some random schooling before that.

We have a massive problem in Pak here no doubt about it. The war on minorities has to end if the country is to progress. When the PM seems to often support extremist views it only encourages intolerance. Now when a France says Muslim's are intolerant we will start having a go at them thus this vicious circle continues. Did Imran condemn this behavior of extremist Nurses? As the leader of Pakistan, I assume he should have already done that.

No. He always turns a blind eye to the sufferings of Pakistan’s minorities. Since coming to office, whenever there is an act of violence, discrimination, injustice against our minority community member, Imran goes missing!

Almost every week, there is at least one incident against our minorities; be it forced conversion of minor Hindu or Christian girls, vandalism of temples, or false accusation of blasphemy against minorities but Imran always looks the other way.

On the day when an enraged mob burned down a temple in KP, and the whole world watched, Imran told India to stop oppressing Muslims.

Recently, the EU parliament when calling for review of Pakistan’s GSP+ status specifically mentioned that the current Pakistan’s government does not condemn violence against minorities.

No Muslim has ever been punished in Pakistan for hate crimes against minorities. The mullah who filed a blasphemy case against Asia Bibi and then gave a false statement in a court was never punished. Due to him, Asia spent 10 years behind bars. Just recently, the mob who attacked a Christian boy for reading a bible was never punished but instead the boy was arrested and thrown into jail after being charged of blasphemy.

Because I do not project myself as a white knight and a great humanitarian. I have said many times that I do not care about what happens to people in other countries because I have no emotions for them. Sure, you wouldn’t want to wish ill on anyone, but I don’t see the point in standing up for people that do not belong to you, especially when your own countrymen were not suffering.

Pakistan is one of the worst countries in the world when it comes to minorities, and as a Pakistani citizen, I feel obliged to speak about the plight of my fellow citizens rather than what happens in India, Kashmir, Palestine, Middle East etc.

But let’s be clear - my concern for the minorities in Pakistan are also limited to statements only. Would I ever donate a large sum of money to help them out? Probably not, because I would rather give that money to help a family member, a friend, or an acquaintance and more importantly the poor people who work for me.

But when you act like a hypocrite and project yourself as a fake humanitarian, you will be called out on your hypocrisy. No one would criticize Imran if he would just sit down and keep quiet about what happens in India, Palestine and the west. However, when he spends all talking about the treatment of Muslims in these countries, he will be called out on ignoring the plight of Uyghurs in China and the minorities in Pakistan.
