Mustafizur Rahman - Slow death from Satkhira (Performance Watch)

He never bowled according the field setting and just gave the batsman a lot of room, not sure where his variations are all gone? a slow death?

Fizz is off for international duty anyway, Abott will be replacing him; not a bad back up at all and think he will do the job

DK's blitzkrieg in the final two overs has sadly taken away attention from a stunning 18th over The Fiz in which he only gave away 1 run and took a wicket. Phenomenal over. If DK did not happen, his 18th over pretty ,much sealed the deal for Bangladesh and he would have been awarded man of the match for it.

'Mustafizur Rahman can peak during Asia Cup' – Courtney Walsh

Courtney Walsh, the Bangladesh bowling coach, is hoping Mustafizur Rahman, the paceman, can return to peak form in the Asia Cup, which will begin on 15 September.

The injury-prone Rahman has been in and out of action lately. He sustained shoulder and ankle injuries in 2017, and earlier this year he injured his left toe while playing for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League.

He subsequently missed the away series against Afghanistan in June, and the two-Test series in the Caribbean thereafter. He made his return in the limited-overs leg of the series, though, and recently revealed he had recovered fully, but needed to "find better rhythm".

"He is coming on very good," said Walsh. "He is not where he'd like to be. He did well in the West Indies when he joined us. If those injuries stay behind him, he will only get better.

''He has very special skills. We need to have him around to give us a chance to do well. I think he will always give you the edge. We are hoping he can reach his peak during the Asia Cup."

Walsh added that he was keen on fine-tuning Rahman's considerable skill set. "I don't think his workload needs to be managed," said Walsh. "He is bowling pretty well. I would like to do more skill work with him.

"I haven't had a chance (to work with him) due to his injuries, but I am hoping during the Asia Cup, we can do some work. He is coming with some confidence. Hopefully, he will get a lot fitter. He keeps getting slight injuries."

Bangladesh lost the Tests in the Windies, but bounced back in the ODIs and T20Is, winning both series 2-1. Walsh said those victories would boost Bangladesh's confidence heading into the Asia Cup.

"I am very optimistic with Mashrafe (Mortaza) leading the attack. He is a very experienced guy," said Walsh. "I think the guys will give a very good account of themselves. The confidence that has been taken from both wins in the West Indies.

"I know a lot of people may have taken it lightly but to beat West Indies in ODIs and T20s in their backyard is a big achievement for Bangladesh cricket."

Its a shame, Fizz could have been an even more devastating bowler if he had his consistent high 130s pace before his injury. Very injury prone and could end up as another Shane Bond lite.

Asia Cup performance analysis and future expectations:

Mustafiz was amongst wickets only against Afghanistan and Pakistan. Afghanistan lost that match purely due to brain fade and mindless slogging in last two overs otherwise they dominated Mustafiz. In defending those runs in last over Mustafiz did no “ kamaal “ , rather it was Rashid and Gul Badin Naib who lost it for Afg. There was nothing special in that last over.

Than Mustafiz performed against Pakistan whose batting lineup was as good as Hong Kong in Asia Cup batting Malik and Imam ul Haq. Most other batters were as worse as Hong Kong number 4 to number 11 and SL batters. So Mustafiz taking wickets against Pak was nothing special.

Mustafiz had 3 overs to dismiss number 10 and number 11 of Pak team and he created only 1 opportunity in space of 18 balls. Shaheen & Junaid could not be dislodged. That sums up his ability.

Mustafiz can only be good or average against Top 5 Odi and Test batting units because now most quality batsman easily pick his cutters (variety). Hence his chances to excel against top batting units limits only to T20 and T10 cricket.

The only quality fast bowler Bangladesh has unearthed in last 25 years is indeed Taskeen Ahmed and for a short stint Rubel Hussain of WC 2015. That’s it.

Mustafiz is a “ fancy variety “

Look out for this Post in next 2 years. It would be downhill from here no matter how fit he gets.

Will get smacked around on faster wickets. UAE + Bangladesh pitches suit his bowling because those pitches aid his cutters which grip for him nicely. He's another Rumman Raees.

He would be downhill from here or he would become a greatest bowler ever for BD. I would not get into debate with you about that though I believe he would be a decent bowler if not that great bowler for Bd. But firstly pick your stat right before analyzing about someone. lol. Fizz got two wickets against Srilanka in this Asia cup.

In a tournament featuring majority of the best bowlers in the world Fizz was the joint highest wicket taker and the highest wicket taking pacer eclipsing the likes of Hasan Ali, Amir, Bumrah, B.Kumar. If not for a dropped catch in the Pakistan game he would have been the clear highest wicket taker surpassing Kuldeep and Rashid Khan.
And he didn't face any Hong Kong either.

It's safe to say he is back after the injury problems and he has been fantastic from defending little runs in the final overs to taking early wickets vs Pakistan and breaking their backbone this guy was class.

He will always be a threat on slow wickets which is where his his variations become very potent. In SA or Aus or NZ, don't think he will be that good.
England remains an uncertainty as it can have diverse pitches supporting batting, swing and spin.

He's shown he's an excellent operator in Asian conditions. He'd be worth a place in any team in the comp- he's bowled better than some Pakistani big names and would be picked over Bhuvi on form in Asia.

In England he'll be tested and get a chance to show if his game works or if he can tweak his game and we'll see if he is a world class ODI operator or not.

One of the best fast bowlers in the world right now. His mind boggling stats with the ball speaks for his grearness. What makes him unique is that he always remains calm under pressure.

Mustafizur Rahman in top five of ODI rankings

Mustafizur Rahman has led the charge of the Bangladesh bowlers up the one-day international rankings chart, breaking into the top five with career-best points after the home series against the Windies.

Rahman, who picked up five wickets in three matches in Bangladesh’s 2-1 series win, rose to 695 points, and into No.5 on the MRF Tyres ICC ODI Rankings for Bowlers.

Mehidy Hasan, the best bowler in the series with six wickets at an average of 16.33 against his name, shot up 19 places to No.28, while captain Mashrafe Mortaza, who played his 200th match and also finished with six wickets, was up 10 spots to No.23.

With Shakib Al Hasan at No. 26, they made it a quartet of Bangladeshi bowlers in the top 30.

In more good news for the side, Shakib is now just one point behind Rashid Khan on the all-rounders’ chart. Rahman (up six to No.32) and Mehidy (up 19 to No.38) also showed off-their all-round credentials.

For the Windies, the silver lining in what has been a disappointing tour so far has been the performances of Shai Hope and Keemo Paul.

I am surprised it took him this long. Sub 20 average in ODIs is mindboggling. Unlike Rashid, Mustafizur played majority of his matches against top 8 teams. He also seems to be back in old form.

what a comeback from Mustafiz ur Rehman, his slower balls worked again for Bangladesh.
How skillfully he rolled his fingers on to the ball to get the pace off.
