The Los Angeles Lakers ended a decade-long wait for a 17th NBA title as they beat the Miami Heat 106-93 to seal a 4-2 series victory.

The Finals' most valuable player (MVP) LeBron James posted a triple double - scoring 28 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists - with both Anthony Davis and Rajon Rondo adding 19 points.

Victory ties the Lakers with the Boston Celtics for the most NBA championships.

"It means a lot to represent this franchise," said James.

"I told [Lakers president] Jeanie [Buss] when I came here that I was going to put this franchise back in the position where it belongs.

"We just want our respect. Rob [Pelinka] wants his respect, coach [Frank] Vogel wants his respect, our organisation wants its respect, Lakers nation wants its respect.

"And I want my respect too."

From the wilderness to winnersThe Lakers celebrate after winning their first NBA title in a decade

Before this season the Lakers' had failed to reach the play-offs for six consecutive years and their long-awaited success comes after a campaign like no other.

The NBA Finals would have been done and dusted in the spring were it not for the global spread of coronavirus that shut the season down on 11 March, hours after it was declared a pandemic and several players tested positive for the virus.

The season eventually re-started on 31 July, but with no fans courtside. Played behind closed doors at Walt Disney World in Florida, players entered a bio-secure bubble - which the Lakers will now leave after more than 90 days away from friends and family.

They last won an NBA title in 2010, but it was those six years when they failed to reach the play-offs that best illustrated their fall from grace.

The low-point came in the 2015-2016 season, when they managed just 17 wins and suffered 65 defeats.

Change was on its way though, with firing and hiring at management level and the blockbuster arrival of James - then a three-time NBA champion - from the Cleveland Cavaliers.

That was followed by the signing of Davis in June 2019, with whom James teamed up in a partnership that just clicked. They led the Lakers to the top of the Western Conference, and ultimately to the very top of the NBA.

James becomes the first player in NBA history to be named Finals MVP with three different teams (Lakers, Cavaliers and Heat). Now with four MVPs to his name, he trails only Michael Jordan, who won six.

"Thinking I have something to prove fuels me," said James. "No matter what I've done in my career up to this point, there's still little rumblings of doubt, comparing me to the history of the game... 'Has he done this, has he done that?'

"Having that in my head, saying to myself why not still have something to prove, I think it fuels me."

The Lakers had not won the NBA title since 2010'Kobe's proud of us'

Victory for the Lakers also comes in a year in which they lost one of their greats - Kobe Bryant.

The five-time NBA champion, who spent his entire career with the Lakers and led them to their last NBA title in 2010, was killed in a helicopter crash in January alongside his daughter Gianna.

On several occasions during the play-offs, the Lakers have competed in 'Black Mamba' jerseys - a strip themed on Bryant's self-styled nickname.

Before their defeat in game five of the finals, the Lakers had won all four play-off matches they had contested when wearing the strip, which was co-designed by Bryant and released in 2017.

"Ever since the tragedy, all we wanted is to do it for him, and we didn't let him down," said Davis.

"It would have been great to do it last game in his jerseys, but it made us come down even more aggressive, even more powerful on both ends of the floor, to make sure we close it down tonight.

"I know he's looking down on us proud of us. I know Vanessa [Bryant] is proud of us, the organisation's proud of us. It means a lot to us."

Lakers president Buss added: "To Lakers nation, we have been through a heartbreaking tragedy with the loss of our beloved Kobe Bryant and Gianna.

"Let this trophy serve as a reminder of when we come together, believe in each other, incredible things can happen."

Bryant's widow Vanessa posted a tribute to the Lakers on her Instagram story with a photo of her late husband with Lakers general manager and vice-president Pelinka.

"Wish Kobe and Gigi were here to see this," she wrote.

'We have to continue to push for better days'Lakers players take the knee during the US national anthem

Since its restart the NBA has been at the forefront of the conversation surrounding racial justice issues.

Games were postponed as players and teams protested at the shooting of Jacob Blake in Wisconsin in August, while 'Black Lives Matter' adorned the courts alongside the NBA logo.

Jerseys ordinarily emblazoned with well-known surnames instead carried activist slogans: 'Justice Now', 'See Us', 'Hear Us', 'Respect Us', 'Love Us', or 'Black Lives Matter', 'Say Their Names' and 'I Can't Breathe'.

Players took the knee before every match and, during the finals, did so while wearing T-shirts displaying the word 'vote' - "a league-wide action in support of non-partisan efforts to expand voting access" ahead of the upcoming US elections.

"We all want to see better days and when we leave here, we have to continue to push that," James said.

"Continue to push against social injustice, continue to push against voter suppression, continue to push against police brutality, continue to push against everything that is the opposite of love.

"If we continue to do that - all of us - America will be a much better place. We all love this country."

What they said

LA Lakers

LeBron James: "It doesn't matter where it is if you win a championship - a bubble, Miami, Golden State. When you get to this point, it is one of the greatest feelings in the world for a basketball player."

Anthony Davis: "We sacrificed, we trusted one another, we had a will to win. After all of the things we have been through this year, we were able to come into this bubble with one goal, to win the championship. We were able to [leave a legacy] tonight, and now we want to build on it."

Miami Heat

Jimmy Butler: "It's hard, because it was special to us. We really enjoyed playing with one another, really enjoyed being around one another. I just appreciate it and am thankful I had the opportunity to be able to do that."

Head coach Erik Spoelstra: "We didn't get the final result that we wanted. But these are going to be lifetime memories that we have together."

Absolutely crushed Miami tonight who seemed to have given their everything in Game 5, with little left in the tank for the onslaught that came their way tonight.

NBA champions LA Lakers pay tribute to Kobe Bryant after title win

The Los Angeles Lakers paid tribute to Kobe Bryant after winning their first NBA title in a decade.

Five-time NBA champion Bryant was killed in a helicopter crash in January alongside his 13-year-old daughter Gianna and seven others.

He spent his entire career with the Lakers and led them to their last NBA title in 2010.

"Kobe, I know he's looking down on us super proud," said Lakers forward Anthony Davis.

"We miss him, and this is definitely for him."

The Lakers beat the Miami Heat 106-93 to seal a 4-2 series victory and tie with the Boston Celtics for the most NBA championships on 17.

Davis added: "He had a lot of confidence in our team. He had a lot of confidence in our organisation to go out there and win it this year."

On several occasions during the play-offs, the Lakers competed in 'Black Mamba' jerseys - a strip themed on 18-time NBA All-Star Bryant's self-styled nickname.

Before their defeat in game five of the finals, the Lakers had won all four play-off matches they had contested when wearing the strip, which was co-designed by Bryant and released in 2017.

"I think Kobe and Gianna have guided this team the entire year," said Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka.

"Kobe's voice is always in my head, always, every day, every minute. For us to be able to win this championship doesn't take away the sting of the loss, but what it does is it helps us add to their legacy.

"Kobe and Gianna's legacy will last forever. It will impact lives around the world in positive ways, and this Lakers championship in 2020 is partly to build on that legacy and honour them. The moment couldn't be any more special to do that for them.

"There would be times in my hotel room here - when you're in a bubble for 100 days, it's tough - there would be times in the middle of the night, I would hear his voice: 'Stay the course. Finish the task.'

"He said, 'I'll give you two, three years, you'll fix this. You'll get the Lakers back on top'."

Looking to the skies, Pelinka added: "I guess you were right, man. You gave me the energy to do it."

Bryant's widow Vanessa posted a tribute to the Lakers on her Instagram story with a photo of her late husband with Pelinka.

"Wish Kobe and Gigi were here to see this," she wrote.

Following the Lakers' win, fans streamed onto the streets of LA in celebration, despite coronavirus restrictions.

Many wore Bryant's number 8 and 24 jerseys as well as face masks and jackets adorned with the face of the Lakers great, while photos were taken by a giant mural of Bryant and his daughter and his name was chanted.

"Winning for Kobe has been in my mind for a while," Lakers point guard Rajon Rondo said.

"To be able to compete with Kobe, understand and learn so much from him by watching his film and by studying him, it's definitely an honour.

"And to come full circle to win in his honour, his daughter's honour, unbelievable season that we've had. And to be able to prevail and stay focused and continue to get the job done, I know he's definitely smiling down on us."

Anthony Davis: Los Angeles Lakers All-Star to opt out and sign new contract

Anthony Davis plans to opt out of his $28.7m player option for next season and re-sign with the Los Angeles Lakers, according to reports.

Davis will meet with his agent, Rich Paul, in the coming weeks to come up with a multi-year contract term best-suited for the 27-year-old megastar, per a report in The Athletic.

Davis averaged 26.1 points in his first year with the Lakers, which ended last week with another NBA title for the franchise but the first for the eight-year player out of Kentucky.

The power forward, who has also been deployed as a center, is averaging 24.0 points and 10.4 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game for his career.

Davis and the Lakers have been installed as early favourites to repeat as NBA champions in 2021.

The Athletic also reported that Lakers guards Rajon Rondo and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope are expected to decline player options - worth $2.7m and $8.5m respectively - for the 2020-21 season.

Both Caldwell-Pope and Rondo could re-sign with the Lakers, as Los Angeles may look to keep most of their core intact after winning their 17th NBA championship on Sunday.

Caldwell-Pope, 27, just finished his seventh NBA season, and third with the Lakers. He has averaged 11.6 points per game during his 539-game NBA career, and this season shot a personal best 38.5 per cent from three-point range.

Caldwell-Pope was the Lakers' third-leading scorer in the NBA Finals with 12.8 points per game, checking in behind superstars LeBron James and Davis.

Rondo, a four-time All-Star and now two-time NBA champion, also helped his stock in the playoffs as he became the Lakers' second-best distributor and gave James a break from orchestrating the offense.

Rondo, 34, has averaged 10.2 points and 8.3 assists per game over his 14-year NBA career, which has spanned six different franchises, including the Boston Celtics (2006-14), the Dallas Mavericks (2014-15), the Sacramento Kings (2015-16), the Chicago Bulls (2016-17), the New Orleans Pelicans (2017-18) and the Lakers (2018-20).

Great.

LBJ + AD got another shot at the title.

They look set to sign Chris Paul as well. That will be a big boost.

Los Angeles Clippers: Tyronn Lue named as head coach to succeed Doc Rivers

Tyronn Lue has been named as head coach of the Los Angeles Clippers to succeed Doc Rivers.

Lue spent last season as an assistant on Rivers' staff and previously coached the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The 43-year-old took the Cavaliers to three consecutive NBA Finals and helped them win their first title in 2016.

Clippers president of basketball operations Lawrence Frank says he expects Lue's appointment to drive the team on "to new heights".

Rivers, who has joined the Philadelphia 76ers, left the Clippers in September after they lost a 3-1 series lead in the Western Conference semi-finals and were knocked out of the play-offs 4-3 by the Denver Nuggets.

Lue, who won the NBA twice as a player with the Los Angeles Lakers, becomes the franchise's 26th head coach.

"Ty has been where we want to go," Frank added. "He is a championship head coach with an extraordinary feel for the game and the people who play it.

"He's one of the great minds in our league, and he's able to impart his vision to others, because he connects with everybody he meets."

Terence Davis: Toronto Raptors co-operating with NBA after guard arrested

The Toronto Raptors say they are co-operating with the NBA's investigation after guard Terence Davis was arrested in New York this week.

Davis, 23, was charged with seven offences, including two counts of assault, after an incident involving a woman in Manhattan on Tuesday.

The criminal complaint alleges Davis hit the woman in the face, also causing her son standing nearby to fall.

The Raptors said they "take these issues very seriously" in a statement.

"We will fully co-operate and support the league in its investigation of this matter as we work to determine the appropriate next steps for our team," the team said on Friday.

Davis has also been charged with endangering the welfare of a child, criminal mischief, aggravated harassment, attempted assault and harassment.

His lawyer, Gabriel Esposito, told TSN that his client has entered a plea of not guilty.

The Raptors signed Davis as a free agent after he was not drafted in 2019.

He played all 72 regular season games in the 2019-20 season, averaging 7.5 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game, before playing in six play-off games as the Raptors were beaten by the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference semi-finals.

James Harden: All-Star guard rejects Houston Rockets contract extension, seeks Brooklyn Nets trade

Former MVP James Harden has declined the Houston Rockets' offer of a contract that would pay him an NBA-record $50m per season, and is instead is looking to engineer a trade that would send him to the Brooklyn Nets, according to US reports.

ESPN reported on Monday that Harden turned down an extension for two years and $103m beyond the existing three years and $133m on his contract.

He is reportedly in contact with Nets forward Kevin Durant and guard Kyrie Irving in hopes of forming a Big Three in Brooklyn.

However, there has been no "meaningful dialogue" between the Nets and the Rockets about a Harden deal.

The Rockets have already lost head coach Mike D'Antoni and general manager Daryl Morey during the offseason.

D'Antoni parted ways with the Rockets in September after the team lost to the eventual champion Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference semifinals.

Morey resigned as the Rockets' GM on October 15, two weeks before the club hired Stephen Silas as its new head coach. The New York Times reported that Harden had wanted the team to hire either Tyronn Lue or John Lucas as D'Antoni's replacement.

Harden was joined by Russell Westbrook in Houston last summer, but after the pairs' failure to make a dent on in the postseason, there appears to be a mutual disinterest in running things back for another season, with Westbrook reportedly also keen to depart the Rockets.

Harden, 31, is an eight-time All-Star and seven-time All-NBA performer who has led the NBA in scoring each of the past three seasons. In 2019-20, he averaged 34.3 points, 6.6 rebounds, 7.5 assists and 1.8 steals in 68 games.

He has reached the NBA Finals once (playing alongside Durant with the 2011-12 Oklahoma City Thunder) and the Western Conference finals three other times but has yet to win a championship.

Durant, 32, is set to return in 2020-21 after missing all of last season due to a torn Achilles tendon. He has two championship rings from his time with the Golden State Warriors, winning NBA Finals MVP twice.

Irving, 28, joined the Nets last season after previous stints in Cleveland and Boston. He was a key part of the Cavaliers' 2015-16 championship team alongside LeBron James.

NBA expands 2021 playoffs with Play-In Tournament in each conference

The 2020-21 NBA postseason will be expanded to include a Play-in Tournament in each conference.

The pandemic-shortened regular season, reduced to 72 games, will start on December 22 and the postseason will begin on May 18.

Ten teams in each conference will advance to the postseason, with teams seeded seventh through 10th participating in a Play-in Tournament to gain admission to the conference playoffs.

The coronavirus pandemic truncated the 2019-20 season and forced a delayed start to the upcoming season.

The NBA Board of Governors announced the season would be established in two segments - the first from December 22-March 4, followed by the All-Star break (March 5-10), with the second half of the season running from March 11-May 16.

The teams with the seventh-best and eighth-best records in each conference will play one game, with the winner becoming the No 7 seed in the playoffs.

The teams with the ninth and 10th-best records will play a game, with the winner of that contest then meeting the loser of the "seven-eight" game for the right to become the No 8 seed in the playoffs.

So, the teams 7 and 8 would need only to win one game in two tries while teams 9 and 10 would have to win two in a row.

The 72-game schedule, compared to the traditional 82-game season, will not be perfectly balanced.

The league said: "The Second Half schedule will include the remainder of each team's 72 games not scheduled in the First Half as well as any games postponed during the First Half that can reasonably be added to the Second Half schedule."

The schedule will include teams playing three games against each intraconference opponent and two games against each interconference opponent.

The playoffs are due to end by July 22, which is the day before the opening ceremonies of the rescheduled Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Calendar for the 2020-21 season:

• December 11-19, 2020: Preseason games

• December 22, 2020 - March 4, 2021: First Half of regular season

• March 5-10, 2021: All-Star break

• March 11 - May 16, 2021: Second Half of regular season

• May 18-21, 2021: Play-In Tournament

• May 22 - July 22, 2021: 2021 NBA Playoffs

NBA draft: First pick Anthony Edwards set for Minnesota Timberwolves

Anthony Edwards paid tribute to his late mother and grandmother as he was named the NBA's number one draft pick with a move to Minnesota Timberwolves.

Both family members died of cancer and the Georgia guard, 19, sat next to paintings of the pair as the announcement was made.

"It's an indescribable feeling - I can't even describe it," Edwards said.

"My family is emotional. I'm sure when I get off of here I'm going to get emotional."

Edwards stands to earn a four-year contract worth $44.2m (£33.39m) under terms of the existing collective bargaining agreement.

Memphis 7ft centre James Wiseman was the number two pick selected by six-time champions Golden State Warriors, who finished bottom of the Western Conference last season.

Point guard LaMelo Ball, the brother of New Orleans Pelicans point guard Lonzo, was the third pick selected by the Charlotte Hornets. LaMelo, 19, and 2017 second pick Lonzo, 23, are the first brothers selected in the top five of the NBA draft.

Chicago Bulls opted for Florida State small forward Patrick Williams as the fourth pick.

The draft was originally scheduled for 25 June but had been delayed because of the fallout from the coronavirus. Last year's event was held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, but Wednesday's event was conducted at ESPN headquarters in Connecticut and held via video calls.

Boxes of hats were sent to the top prospects so they could wear the appropriate one when their name was read out.

Anthony Davis and LeBron James have signed new deals with NBA champions the Los Angeles Lakers.

Davis has agreed a reported five-year deal worth $190m (£141m).

His agent told ESPN the 27-year-old has the option to terminate it before the fifth year.

Four-time NBA champion James, 35, has signed a two-year extension worth a reported $85m (£63m), which will run until the end of the 2022-23 season - his 20th in the competition.

James will become a free agent in the same year his 16-year-old son Bronny is scheduled to enter the NBA when he graduates from high school.

His career earnings will approach $435m (£324m) by the end of his Lakers deal.

Davis and James helped the Lakers to their first NBA title in a decade in October.

James, who joined the Lakers in 2018, was named the finals' most valuable player and became the first player to win the title with three different teams, having twice won it with Miami Heat and once with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

"LeBron James is a transcendent basketball player and human being," said Lakers general manager general manager Rob Pelinka. "This contract extension paves the way for LeBron to further solidify his legacy as an all-time Lakers great."

While he said Davis' deal was a "blessed moment for Lakers Nation."

The Lakers will play the Los Angeles Clippers in their opening game of the new NBA season on 22 December.

James says the Lakers "absolutely can" retain their title, telling the Road Trippin' podcast: "We can. I mean, it's that simple."

Giannis Antetokounmpo: Milwaukee Bucks star signs '$228.2m' deal - the richest in league history

Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo has signed a contract extension worth a reported $228.2m (£170.1m) - the richest in NBA history.

The two-time Most Valuable Player, 26, has agreed a five-year deal.

His agent confirmed the details of the contract to ESPN, with the total value beating the mark of $228m (£169.9m) set by Houston Rockets guard James Harden in 2017.

"This is my home, this is my city," said Antetokounmpo on social media.

"I'm blessed to be able to be a part of the Milwaukee Bucks for the next five years.

"Let's make these years count - the show goes on, let's get it."

Greek forward Antetokounmpo, who was drafted 15th overall by the Bucks in 2013, would have been eligible for free agency after the 2020-21 season if he had not signed.

His new contract permits him to opt out of the deal after four years.

The Bucks finished top of the Eastern Conference last season, with the best record in the NBA, but were upset by the Miami Heat in the conference semi-finals during the play-offs.

Antetokounmpo was named the MVP for the second successive season in September and also won the Defensive Player of the Year - becoming only the third player, after Michael Jordan and Hakeem Olajuwon, to earn both in the same season.

Harden had two years, worth $59m, left on his previous deal when he signed a four-year $169m extension in 2017.

Antetokounmpo's average annual salary of $45.6m also surpasses the mark of Washington Wizards guard Russell Westbrook, who signed a five-year deal worth $206.8m with former team the Oklahoma City Thunder, the equivalent of $41.4m per year.

The delayed 2020-21 NBA campaign, which has been reduced to 72 regular-season games because of the coronavirus pandemic, is set to begin on 22 December.

NBA champions the Los Angeles Lakers were beaten 116-109 by the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday's opening night of the new season.

The Clippers' Paul George scored 26 of his 33 points in the second half while Kawhi Leonard added 26 of his own.

It is the second successive year the Clippers have defeated the Lakers in their season opener.

Elsewhere, Kevin Durant scored 22 on his Brooklyn Nets debut as they beat the Golden State Warriors 125-99.

Two-time NBA champion Durant joined the Nets on a four-year $164m deal in the summer of 2019 - after leaving the Warriors - but missed last season with an Achilles tendon injury.

When asked about the 10-time NBA All-Star's return to the court, Nets coach Steve Nash said: "It's a big, big difference in taking 18 months away from the NBA and coming back into the NBA with everything he's gone through.

"He looks like Kevin, he plays like Kevin, but I don't want to start making expectations of him until he gets going and gets some games and some rhythm under his belt and adapts to playing three in four nights and playing almost every other night for a stretch.

"That's the next step for him. We've got to just take it day-by-day with him."

Stephen Curry posted a double-double for the Warriors with 20 points and 10 assists but they never looked like troubling the Nets, who, on Nash's coaching debut, ended a seven-game losing streak in season openers with Kyrie Irving top scoring with 26.

The Houston Rockets' season opener against the Oklahoma City Thunder has been postponed because the Rockets are unable to field enough players.

Three Rockets players returned either positive or inconclusive coronavirus results, with another four needing to quarantine after contact tracing.

Rockets star James Harden is unavailable because of a violation of the NBA's coronavirus protocols.

All other Rockets players were retested today, and returned negative results.

One player is also injured meaning they do not have the league-required eight available players to play the game at the Toyota Center in Houston.

ESPN reported that the Rockets and NBA are investigating a video that appears to show 2018 Most Valuable Player Harden not wearing a face covering at a club.

Harden responded in an Instagram story in which he denied he was attending a strip club.

"I went to show love to my homegirl at her event (not a strip club) because she is becoming a boss putting her people in position of success and now it's a problem," he said.

"Everyday it's something different. No matter how many times people try to drag my name under you can't. The real always end on top."

Wednesday is the second night of the NBA season, after wins for LA Clippers and Brooklyn Nets against LA Lakers and Golden State Warriors on the opening night.

Jayson Tatum hit a three-pointer with 1.5 seconds left as the Boston Celtics recovered from blowing a 17-point fourth-quarter lead to beat the Milwaukee Bucks 122-121 on Wednesday night

Anthony Davis had 28 points and eight rebounds as the host Los Angeles Lakers coasted to a 138-115 victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Christmas Day.

Davis converted 10 of 16 shots and 3 of 5 3-point attempts. LeBron James had 22 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds while Montrezl Harrell contributed 22 points and seven rebounds for the Lakers.

Houston Rockets suffer overtime loss to Portland Trail Blazers

An understrength Houston Rockets started their NBA campaign with a narrow 128-126 overtime defeat by the Portland Trail Blazers.

The Rockets had only nine players available - one above the NBA minimum - after two positive Covid-19 tests and four others were deemed close contacts.

Their scheduled season-opener on Wednesday against Oklahoma City had been postponed.

CJ McCollum's three-pointer with 6.9 seconds left sealed the victory.

It came after a three-pointer from James Harden with 15.3 seconds left had put the Rockets 126-125 up.

Harden, who finished with 44 points and 17 assists, matching his career high, returned after being fined $50,000 (£36,820) by the NBA for a breach violation of its coronavirus protocols.

Christian Wood added 31 points and 13 rebounds on his Rockets debut, while rookie Jae'Sean Tate managed 13 points.

The Los Angeles Clippers suffer the biggest loss in their history after finding themselves 50 points adrift of the Dallas Mavericks at half-time.

The Clippers were 77-27 down at the interval - the largest half-time points difference since the shot-clock era began in the mid 1950s.

The hosts improved in the second half, but still ended up on the wrong end of a 124-73 scoreline.

Dallas' Luka Doncic scored 24 points, nine rebounds and eight assists.

The Clippers, who had won their first two games of the new season, were without Kawhi Leonard after their All-Star forward suffered cuts to his mouth in Friday's win over the Denver Nuggets.

In his absence, Paul George led the Clippers with 15 points and Serge Ibaka added 13.

The Milwaukee Bucks set an NBA record of 29 three-pointers in a game in a 144-97 win over the Miami Heat.

The Bucks dominated - leading by as many as 51 points at one stage - and broke the Houston Rockets' record of 27 three-pointers in a single game.

Orlando Magic beat Oklahoma City Thunder 118-107 and have now won the first four games of a season for the first time in their 32-year history.

Only Orlando and Atlanta Hawks remain unbeaten in the new NBA season.

Magic top the Eastern Conference from Atlanta, while the Los Angeles Clippers sit top of the Western Conference after a 124-101 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Phoenix Suns sit second in the Western Conference after a comfortable 111-86 win over the New Orleans Pelicans, in which Jae Crowder scored a season-high 21 points.

LeBron James celebrated his 36th birthday by helping the Lakers to a 121-107 win over the Spurs.

Stephen Curry scored a career-high 62 points as his Golden State Warriors beat the Portland Trailblazers 137-122.

The 32-year-old is the second oldest player to score over 60 points in a game - Kobe Bryant is the oldest at 37.

Curry's previous best performance was 54 points against the New York Knicks in February 2013.

"I wanted to take him out with 30 seconds left so the 42 people here could give him a standing ovation," said Warriors head coach Steve Kerr.

NBA games are being played behind closed doors because of the coronavirus pandemic.

"We've seen Steph do so many things here over the years and it's just a privilege to coach him," Kerr said.

"We are incredibly blessed as an organisation to have Steph leading the way. What a performance."

Curry was congratulated by many on social media, including his team-mate Klay Thompson and LA Lakers legend Magic Johnson.

The Los Angeles Lakers hope to become the first NBA champions to visit the White House since 2016 when president elect Joe Biden takes office.

No team has visited the White House under the presidency of Donald Trump.

President Trump rescinded invitations to NBA championship winning teams in recent years after several players stated they did not wish to visit.

But US media claim the Lakers would be keen to visit Biden after he is sworn into office on 20 January.

The Cleveland Cavaliers were the last team to meet a sitting president when they visited Barack Obama after their 2016 win but the Golden State Warriors (2017 and 2018) and the Toronto Raptors (2019) did not go to see Trump.

The Lakers will potentially make their visit when they play at the home of the Washington Wizards, as long as Covid-19 restrictions or Biden's own engagements do not get in the way.

The Lakers lost their third match in nine games this season on Thursday, 118-109 at home to San Antonio Spurs.

LeBron James scored 27 points for the hosts but 28 from Spurs' LaMarcus Aldridge gave them a fourth win in eight this season.

Elsewhere, Philadelphia 76ers guard Seth Curry - brother of Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry - tested positive for Covid-19 on Thursday.

His team top the Eastern Conference but lost for just the second time this season, 122-109 against the Brooklyn Nets.

In the game of the night, Luka Doncic scored 38 points, 13 assists and nine rebounds for the Dallas Mavericks as they secured an overtime win over a Denver Nuggets side inspired by a 38-point haul by Nikola Jokic.

Serbian Jokic also had 11 rebounds and with 2.4 seconds remaining, he found space to shoot and land two points to tie the game at 109-109 at the final buzzer.

Slovenian Doncic continued his fine work though to help his side to a 124-117 win.

Damian Lillard scored 39 points as the Portland Trail Blazers picked up a 135-117 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves, while the low-scoring game of the night saw the Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Memphis Grizzlies 94-90.

My early season bet is that they'll win this year's championship (provided they're injury free)

NBA: James Harden reported to be joining Brooklyn Nets as they beat New York Knicks

US reports say Harden, NBA top scorer for the past three seasons, has left the Houston Rockets after nine years.

The 31-year-old was asked to miss Rockets training on Wednesday, having said that they were not good enough to be title contenders after Tuesday's defeat at the Los Angeles Lakers.

Kevin Durant scored 26 points in the Nets' win over the Knicks.

Star forward Durant, a former Oklahoma City Thunder team-mate of Harden, led seven Nets players in double figures as they moved sixth in the Eastern Conference on seven wins and six defeats.

The deal for Harden - which has been reported in the US but not confirmed - is said to be part of a huge trade that also involves the Indians Pacers and the Cleveland Cavaliers.

As part of the trade, Houston would receive guard Victor Oladipo from the Pacers, guard Dante Exum from the Cavaliers and forward Rodions Kurucs of the Nets.

The Rockets would also get three first-round draft picks from the Nets, one unprotected 2022 first-round pick from the Cavaliers - via the Milwaukee Bucks - and the right to swap four first-round picks with the Nets.

After Tuesday's defeat against the Lakers, 31-year-old Harden - the NBA's Most Valuable Player in 2018 - said Houston were "not even close, honestly" to the league's top competition.

They literally have 0 defense.

NBA: Minnesota Timberwolves' Karl-Anthony Towns defiant over Covid-19

Minnesota Timberwolves player Karl-Anthony Towns says he will "not end up in a box" after testing positive for Covid-19.

Towns has lost seven family members in the past year, including his 59-year-old mother, who died from Covid-19 complications on 13 April.

The NBA postponed the Timberwolves' game with the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday because of the outbreak.

The league said Minnesota did not have the mandatory eight players available.

"Prior to tonight's game, I received yet another awful call that I tested positive for Covid," Towns said on Twitter. "I will immediately isolate and follow every protocol.

"I pray every day that this nightmare of a virus will subside and I beg everyone to continue to take it seriously by taking all the necessary precautions.

"It breaks my heart that my family, and particularly my father and sister, continue to suffer from the anxiety that comes along with this diagnosis, as we know all too well what the end result could be.

"To my niece and nephew, I promise you I will not end up in a box next to grandma and I will beat this."

Action was possible on the court elsewhere, with Giannis Antetokounmpo scoring 31 points as the Milwaukee Bucks extended their winning run to four matches with a 112-109 victory over the Dallas Mavericks.

Shai-Gilgeous Alexander's career-high 33 points led Oklahoma City to a stunning 127-125 comeback victory over the Chicago Bulls.

Jaylen Brown claimed 21 points to lead Boston Celtics to an impressive 124-97 home win over Orlando Magic.

Meanwhile, the Cleveland Cavaliers narrowly overcame the New York Knicks 106-103 after Andre Drummond's 33-point haul, and Donovan Mitchell scored 26 points in just 27 minutes as the Utah Jazz beat Atlanta Hawks 116-92.

Kawhi Leonard sunk 28 points as the Los Angeles Clippers cruised past the Sacramento Kings 138-100, while neighbours and defending champions the Los Angeles Lakers were inspired by LeBron James' 21 points in their 112-95 win over the New Orleans Pelicans.

NBA: Anthony Davis injured as LA Lakers lose to Denver Nuggets

Los Angeles Lakers forward Anthony Davis suffered a recurrence of his Achilles injury as his side lost 122-105 to the Denver Nuggets.

Davis, who missed two games last week with the same problem, was forced out late in the second quarter after a foul by Nikola Jokic.

The 27-year-old has some swelling in his right Achilles and will have a MRI scan on Monday.

He left the game after scoring 15 points in 14 minutes.

When Davis retired hurt, Denver were only 60-55 ahead but they then scored 10 straight points to help them take a 73-61 lead into the break.

They continued to dominate after that, leading by as many as 21 in the fourth quarter as they cruised to a win that ended a seven-game winning streak for the Lakers.

Jamal Murray top-scored on 25 points for the Nuggets with Jokic adding 23 while LeBron James contributed 22 points, 10 rebounds and nine assists for the Lakers.

NBA All-Star Game: Giannis Antetokounmpo MVP as Team LeBron beat Team Durant 170-150

"The bank, usually it's closed on Sundays, but not for me. For me it was open with extended hours."

If there is a time to shoot a perfect record, the NBA All-Star game is it - and Giannis Antetokounmpo did just that.

His 16-for-16, including a 3-for-3 on three-pointers saw him finish with a game-high 35 points - and the Kobe Bryant Most Valuable Player (MVP) award - as Team LeBron defeated Team Durant 170-150 in the annual exhibition game.

But this was an All-Star game like no other. In the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, there was barely a crowd, no front-row celebrities, to witness the magic unfold in person at Atlanta's State Farm Arena.

Yet in the end, it was the same. A LeBron James team won - extending his record to 4-0 as an All-Star captain.

"I always try to pick the right team, and I've been lucky enough for four years to pick the right team," James said.

"Guys go out and compete and play to win. I've been on the winning side of all four."

The Orlando Magic have traded their star big man Nikola Vucevic to the Chicago Bulls in exchange for two first-round picks, Wendell Carter Jr. and Otto Porter, multiple sources have confirmed.

James Harden says he feels like he is the NBA's Most Valuable Player after helping the Brooklyn Nets beat the Detroit Pistons.

The 31-year-old scored 44 points with 14 rebounds and eight assists as the Nets won 113-111.

Brooklyn have won 24 of their 31 matches with Harden in the team since he joined them in January.

Asked about the MVP award, Harden said: "Do I feel like I belong in the discussion? I feel like I am the MVP."

The MVP is given to the best performing player of the season and is voted for by members of the NBA media.

Harden, who was voted MVP in 2018, averages 26 points for the Nets this season.

"Numbers are showing it for itself, and we're winning. That's all I can say," he said.

"I don't want to be speaking individually on myself. I am just going to leave it at that."

Elsewhere, the Minnesota Timberwolves overturned a 19-point second-half deficit to beat the Houston Rockets 107-101.

The Los Angeles Lakers beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 100-86, despite LeBron James missing his fourth match in a row with an ankle problem.

Lol he can win all the regular season awards he wants. They’re gonna lose in the offs.

btw [MENTION=150563]Giannis[/MENTION] what's it likes to consistently not ever reach the finals.. .

Sixers are very young. They won't win this year, #TrustTheProcess will bring home a title in 2020 or later. Simmons and Fultz are rookies, Embiid is only in his 3rd or 4th season, it's very unlikely that they would win rings so soon - it takes time, they look like the new OKC to me, the one that gave us Harden, Westbrook and KD.
trusting the process... :))

Bruh last time my team reached the finals we won it, albeit almost 10 years ago..

The Brooklyn Nets further cemented their move to the top of the Eastern Conference with a 111-89 win over the Charlotte Hornets.

LaMarcus Aldridge impressed on his debut following his recent switch from the San Antonio Spurs, adding 11 points, nine rebounds and six assists.

Jeff Green top-scored for the Nets, who have won 20 of their past 23 games.

Elsewhere, Stephen Curry made 36 points and 11 rebounds in the Golden State Warriors' defeat by the Miami Heat.

The Philadelphia 76ers - now second in the Eastern Conference behind the Nets - beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 114-94, while Jamal Murray's 23 points helped the Denver Nuggets go four games unbeaten with a 101-94 win over the Los Angeles Clippers.

Josh Jackson scored a season-high 31 points in the Detroit Pistons' 120-91 victory over the Washington Wizards, as the Orlando Magic edged a narrow 115-110 win over the injury-hit New Orleans Pelicans in overtime.

Two overtimes were needed to separate the San Antonio Spurs and the Atlanta Hawks, with the Hawks eventually winning 134-129 with Trae Young scoring 15 points after the end of normal time.

NBA: Kevin Durant scores 17 points off bench as Brooklyn hammer New Orleans

Kevin Durant came off the bench and scored 17 points on his return from a 23-game injury lay-off to help the Brooklyn Nets thrash the New Orleans Pelicans 139-111.

Durant hit all five of his shots, including two three-pointers, after being introduced in the second quarter.

It was just the second time in the 32-year-old's career that he came off the bench in a game.

"I just wanted to go out there and dive right into the action," he said.

"I expected to come out here and play the way I played. I wasn't trying to ease into the game.

"The game was fast-paced already so from watching it from the bench I knew exactly how I needed to approach it. It was pretty cool coming off the bench, I can't lie."

The two-time NBA champion, who also came up with seven rebounds and five assists, had not played since 13 February because of a hamstring strain.

But while Nets head coach Steve Nash said it was good to see Durant back "with a big smile on his face", they will now be without point guard James Harden for at least 10 days because of a hamstring injury.

Pelicans coach Stan Van Gundy said his side "got dominated at both ends of the floor".

Brooklyn also ended Zion Williamson's 25-game run of scoring 20-plus points on 50% shooting or better.

Williamson, who finished with just 16 points on four of 12 shooting from the floor, is tied with former Los Angeles Lakers star Shaquille O'Neal for the longest such streak in the NBA.

Meanwhile, Devin Booker and Chris Paul led the Phoenix Suns to a 117-113 overtime win over the visiting Utah Jazz in a game between the NBA's two best teams.

Booker scored 35 points and Chris Paul contributed 29 points and nine assists as the Suns, who have the NBA's second-best record, held on for their seventh victory in a row.

Donovan Mitchell registered 41 points and eight rebounds for the NBA-leading Jazz, and forced the game into overtime with a clutch three-pointer.

Utah, however, never led in overtime, with Booker getting the Suns off to a quick start with a lay-up, while Paul finished it off with free throws late on.

Among its many nicknames, New York is known as 'The City That Never Sleeps'. Yet for its basketball-loving residents, it's hard to believe what they're experiencing isn't a dream.

Going into the 2021 NBA play-offs, the Brooklyn Nets are clear favourites - a situation even the most loyal Nets fans are finding hard to believe.

"It's like a movie, you have to pinch yourself to see if it's real," Keith McPherson, host of the Talkin' Nets podcast, told BBC Sport.

"You could believe it if it was one of the big marquee teams, like the Lakers or Celtics, but it's my team - the little engine that could.

"Here in Brooklyn we expect to win it, but if for some reason we don't, it's not the end of the world. I look at this as the beginning of a small dynasty of us being a competitive team for the next three to four years."

It's not only New Yorkers or Nets fans who are excited about what the rest of the season has in store, with basketball lovers around the world eager to see what the franchise and their 'Big Three' will achieve.

2021 NBA play-offs (number denotes seed)

Western Conference Eastern Conference

1. Utah Jazz 1. Philadelphia 76ers
2. Phoenix Suns 2. Brooklyn Nets
3. Denver Nuggets 3. Milwaukee Bucks
4. Los Angeles Clippers 4. New York Knicks
5. Dallas Mavericks 5. Atlanta Hawks
6. Portland Trailblazers 6. Miami Heat
7. Los Angeles Lakers 7. Boston Celtics
8. Memphis Grizzlies 8. Washington Wizards

This is the fourth iteration of the franchise - which started in New Jersey before moving to New York, then back to New Jersey - we know today as the Brooklyn Nets.

Having bounced between cities, the team have been the 'nearly guys' before - losing the 2002 and 2003 NBA Finals.

"Even if the Knicks are the more established team here in New York - their fanbase goes back generations - what the Nets have been able to do is re-excite the basketball audience in the city," said radio presenter Chris Carrino.

"We can't compete with the Knicks' traditions, but what we are doing right now is so exciting."

There are three reasons why basketball experts and betting companies are tipping Brooklyn to go all the way: Kyrie Irving, James Harden and Kevin Durant.

The trio are spending their first year together - but bring enough individual accolades and talent that entry into the NBA Hall of Fame is a formality.

Durant is a two-time NBA champion and Finals Most Valuable Player with the Golden State Warriors.

Irving won the NBA title with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016, is a seven-time All-Star, and was part of Team USA's success at the 2016 Olympics.

Harden - who was acquired in a blockbuster trade from the Houston Rockets in January - was the league's MVP in 2018 and is also a three-time scoring champion.

Injuries to all three mean they have only played eight of the 72 regular-season games together, but such is their individual talent many believe they're unbeatable if fit.

"If the Nets were a restaurant dish, it's got to be a high quality surf and turf," said Carrino.

"Harden is the fillet mignon. Durant is the lobster. Irving is the seasoning, and you know if you don't season it right you're not going to have a tasty dish. The other guys are the vegetables - they don't get the love they deserve, but you need them."

NBA teams usually consist of one star name (two at a push) and a supporting cast, and rival fans - despite the presence of the salary cap - have accused the Nets of trying to buy the championship.

"We've seen 'super teams' fall flat on their faces," said McPherson. "And look at last year - Miami Heat made the Finals, no-one expected that. They didn't have the best players but showed they were the best team.

"Kevin Durant said it best: 'You still have to put in the work.'"

As well as their main men, the Nets have acquired All-Stars Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan, and their roster also includes the shooting talents of Joe Harris, and the defensive toughness of Jeff Green.

The team is also coached by two-time MVP Steve Nash, who has 18 years' playing experience in the NBA.

Winning an NBA championship is a feat only achieved by a very small percentage of players, and being named the regular season's Most Valuable Player is an honour reserved for an even more exclusive club.

The Milwaukee Bucks' Giannis Antetokounmpo is the two-time reigning MVP, but will not be retaining his title.

On Friday, the NBA announced a three-man shortlist: Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets, Philadelphia 76ers centre Joel Embiid, and Golden State Warriors point guard Stephen Curry.

The great LeBron James - already a four-time winner of the award - was on course to be a contender until an ankle injury forced him to miss more than 25 games.

Injury also dented Harden's chances, and ESPN commentator Dave Pasch said this year's decision was an easy one.

"Jokic played every game, and he had a great year, so I don't look at it as by default but he had the best year out of all the healthy players," he said.

"I thought long and hard about Embiid and about Steph Curry. If the Warriors had won five more games, I think more people would have voted for Steph."

The best of the rest

The Nets may be favourites to lift the title, but it's anything but a formality with a lack of fans in arenas potentially distorting results.

The Utah Jazz, for example, finished the season with the best record in the NBA - and last year's champions the Los Angeles Lakers had to take part in a play-off game to secure their place.

The target is the championship game, in which the winner of the Eastern Conference and winner of the Western Conference go head-to-head in a best-of-seven-games series.

"There's so many teams that I think could get there in the East - Brooklyn, Philadelphia 76ers and the Milwaukee Bucks," said Pasch.

"In the West I think there are a handful of teams too. You have to mention the Lakers - if LeBron James is healthy they've got a very good shot.

"The Los Angeles Clippers too, and I think the Phoenix Suns are legitimate. Chris Paul has been great and has the experience to lead his young team."

The NBA play-offs begin on Saturday, 22 May with the Bucks taking on the Heat in the East (19:00 BST), while the Clippers face the Dallas Mavericks in the West (21:30 BST).

Man two classic games featuring the warriors and they lose them both. Curry gave it his all, but if Draymond had just made that shot at the buzzer it would have been over. I wasn’t expecting Memphis to pull this off.. Morant hit clutch shot after clutch shot. The Play in has been a great addition for the fans.

NBA play-offs: LA Lakers take 2-1 series lead against the Phoenix Suns

Anthony Davis became just the fifth Lakers player to score more than 30 points and come up with more than 10 rebounds in back-to-back play-off games

The Los Angeles Lakers won their first play-off game at home in eight seasons to take a 2-1 series lead with a 109-95 victory over the Phoenix Suns.

Anthony Davis again led the way for the Lakers with 34 points and 11 rebounds in the first round of the best-of-seven Western Conference play-offs.

LeBron James scored 21 points as nearly 7,500 fans watched the first play-off game at the Staples Centre since 2013.

The Lakers won last year's NBA title in a bio-secure bubble on neutral ground.

Davies became the first Lakers player since four-time NBA champion Shaquille O'Neal to score more than 30 points and come up with more than 10 rebounds in successive play-off games.

Lakers legends Elgin Baylor, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Kobe Bryant are the only other players to also manage the feat for the club.

The Suns led 28-27 after the first quarter, but the Lakers led 43-40 lead at half-time and then went on a 16-6 run at the start of the second half to take control of the game.

A reverse lay-in by James, which brought huge applause from the home crowd, put Los Angeles 21 points up in the fourth quarter and on their way to victory.

The Suns - led by Deandre Ayton with 22 points and 11 rebounds - cut LA's advantage to eight points with just under three minutes left as Jae Crowder landed a three-pointer. However, that was as close as they would get.

Game four is in Los Angeles on Sunday.

Elsewhere, Khris Middleton recorded 22 points, eight rebounds and five assists as the Milwaukee Bucks beat the Miami Heat 113-84 to take a 3-0 lead in their first-round Eastern Conference play-off series.

The Bucks can complete a series sweep on Saturday in Miami.

Nikola Jokic scored 36 points and Austin Rivers notched 16 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter the Denver Nuggets beat the Portland Trail Blazers on the road to take a 2-1 lead in their Western Conference serie

Kyrie Irving said fans in NBA arenas are treating players "like they are in a human zoo" after a supporter was arrested for throwing a water bottle at the Brooklyn Nets guard on Sunday.

The bottle narrowly missed Irving as he left the court following the Nets' 141-126 win over the Boston Celtics.

It comes as five spectators were given indefinite bans after separate incidents last week.

Irving said the sport was now "at a crossroads".

"It's been that way for entertainment for a long time with underlying racism and just treating people like they are in a human zoo," he said.

Last week, the Washington Wizards point guard Russell Westbrook had to be restrained by security after a fan poured popcorn over him.

The Atlanta Hawks' Trae Young was spat on while three fans of the Utah Jazz were removed from the arena after heckling the family of the Memphis Grizzlies' Ja Morant.

Irving's Nets team-mate Kevin Durant said fans need to "grow up".

"We are not animals, we are not in the circus," he said. "You coming to the game is not all about you as a fan. So, have some respect for the game."

Irving scored 39 points as the Nets took a 3-1 play-off series lead with the win over his former side.

Elsewhere in Sunday's games, the Phoenix Suns beat the Los Angeles Lakers 100-92 to level their play-off series at 2-2.

The Lakers lost forward Anthony Davis to a groin injury late in the second quarter, allowing the Suns to take control in the second half.

They stretched their lead to 16 points in the third quarter and a late rally from the hosts, led by top-scoring LeBron James, was not enough.

The Los Angeles Clippers also drew level at 2-2 in their series with the Dallas Mavericks, winning game four 106-81.

Kawhi Leonard scored 29 points and added 10 rebounds to lead the Clippers, with team-mate Paul George adding 20 points.

Earlier, the Atlanta Hawks beat the New York Knicks 113-96.

The Hawks now lead the best-of-seven series 3-1 and are one game away from the Eastern Conference semi-finals.

Young - who scored 21 points and added 14 assists in the previous game - starred again with 27 points and the win leaves Atlanta with the longest active home winning streak in the NBA, at 13 games.

BBC

Reigning NBA champions, the Los Angeles Lakers have suffered a shock first round play-offs defeat to the Phoenix Suns.

Devin Booker scored 47 points for the Suns as they sealed a 4-2 series win.

LeBron James scored 29 points for the Lakers, who are the first defending champions to lose at this stage since the San Antonio Spurs in 2015.

The result also marks the first time that James has lost in the first round of the play-offs.

The Suns will now face the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference semi-finals after they clinched a 4-2 series win over the Portland Trail Blazers.

Nikola Jokic scored 36 points for the Nuggets, whose 126-115 victory condemned Blazers to a fourth first-round defeat in five seasons.

Lakers bow out

Having won his previous 14 first-round play-off series James found himself attempting to avoid elimination from the first round for only the second time.

The Lakers knocked out the Suns the last time Phoenix reached the play-offs in 2010 but they were on the back foot from the moment Anthony Davis hobbled off with a reoccurrence of a groin injury.

Davis' withdrawal after just over five minutes to the problem that saw him leave game four and kept him out of game five, allowed the Suns to take control at the Staples Centre.

And Booker came to the fore with 22 points in the opening period as the Suns went 36-14 ahead before going on to a comfortable 113-100 victory.

"I've been working my whole life for this moment so it wasn't time to shy away from it," Booker said.

"Plenty of hours of sacrificing a lot of life to this game. So I wanted to put it on full display tonight.

"We knew we weren't going to get to where we wanted to go without going through them, and it happened to be in the first round."

NBA play-offs: Kawhi Leonard stars as Los Angeles Clippers beat Dallas Mavericks

Leonard top scored with 45 points as the Clippers kept their season alive

Kawhi Leonard scored 45 points as the Los Angeles Clippers beat the Dallas Mavericks 104-97 to force a seventh game in their first-round Western Conference play-off.

Reggie Jackson added 25 points as the visitors tied the series 3-3 on Friday.

Kevin Durant scored 48 points, the most ever in a Game 7, but it wasn't enough as the Bucks beat the Nets to advance to the Conference Finals

Late post.

This has been the most fascinating yet frustrating season of NBA i have ever watched.

Key take aways so far:-
1. The talent spread across the two divisions this year has been amazing to watch. So many young players standing out.
2. Injuries ruined the prospects of super teams - Nets and Lakers. Probably fair because i am not a fan of superteams.
3. It's been the season of players protecting and enhancing their legacies. Steph, KD, Kawhi, Paul George, Giannis, Chris Paul, even Blake Griffin- they all have proved a lot to their doubters this season.
4. Lebron, AD, James Harden, Kyrie have been the biggest losers and they need a big come back next season

Besides:-
Russel Westbrook is still gonna keep doinghis thign without a championship

Lastly, American sports talk shows are crazy and are designed and scripted in a manner they are never right and never wrong. They predict things and make big statements as if the game is so predictable and they know everything and the very next day players humiliate them by proving them wrong, yet they come back on TV makign lame excuses. Only the TNT crew is sensible enough to listen to rest of the shows be it Undisputed, First Take etc etc are all just abarber shop talk.

I am rooting for Atlanta Hawks vs Phoenix Suns final but my that's my heart.

Mind says its going to be Clippers vs Milwauke

Milwauke in 7 :D

Kevin Durant scored 48 points, the most ever in a Game 7, but it wasn't enough as the Bucks beat the Nets to advance to the Conference Finals

What a game that was gotta feel for Durant just millimetres from pulling it off pretty much singlehandedly.

Ben Simmons being a total disaster tonight for 76ers

Hawks in the ECF. I likely to go past Giannis's Bucks but i want to see Suns vs Hawks :))

What a game for D. Booker in WCF 1 against the Clippers. Dude is defying Kardashian curse like a boss so far.

40 point triple double and in absence of Chris Paul. Take a bow, what an effort!??

Clippers making it a habit of coming down from behind. Wonder if they will be a third time lucky.

I (Giannis) will win my first title this year, you heard it here first on Pakpassion :afridi

A last-second dunk from Deandre Ayton earned the Phoenix Suns a 104-103 victory over the visiting Los Angeles Clippers to take a 2-0 lead in the NBA play-offs' Western Conference finals.

Ayton slammed home the game-winning basket from a lobbed inbound pass towards the rim from Jae Crowder.

Centre Ayton finished with 24 points and 14 rebounds.

Cameron Payne led the Suns scoring with 29 points, while Paul George top scored for the Clippers with 26.

George, however, missed a pair of free throws with 8.2 seconds remaining that gave the Suns a chance to win the game.

While Mikal Bridges missed a three-point attempt with 3.3secs remaining that would have given the Suns the lead, the Clippers tipped the ball out of bounds with under a second left.

It proved to be enough time for Ayton to win it in spectacular fashion.

The Clippers have already fought back from 2-0 down twice to get this far in the play-offs - having done so against the Dallas Mavericks in the first round and then the top-seeded Utah Jazz in the conference semi-finals - and now face the challenge of having to do so again.

They will host game three on Thursday, having won their past four games in Los Angeles.

Trae Young is setting the league on fire. This little guy seems unfazed by all the hate and pressure of big moments. This is one of the best play off runs i have seen from a guy.

Giannis has his work cut out. Still feel Milwauke in 4 but let's see. I am glad the NBA play offs have come alive with the exit of Superteams!!

Hawks totally dependent on Trae Young.

I can't see them going past a motivated Giannis and with Chris Middleton supporting him like this.

NBA Finals: Los Angeles Clippers keep series alive against the Phoenix Suns

Paul George scored 41 points as the Los Angeles Clippers kept their NBA Western Conference finals series alive with a road victory over the Phoenix Suns.

The Suns were hoping to clinch series victory on home soil but the 116-102 win for the Clippers leaves the best-of-seven series poised at 3-2.

The Clippers can level the series with victory in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

"We fight, we're scrappy, we leave everything on the line and we do it together," said George

"That's the most important thing - we do it together."

The win marked the third time during this season's play-offs that the Clippers have won an elimination game, and Monday's win came without several starters, including the injured Kawhi Leonard.

George led the way with 20 of his points coming in the third quarter to take the game away from Phoenix. He finished 15-from-20 from the floor with three three-pointers, 13 rebounds and six assists.

Reggie Jackson supported him with 23 points while Marcus Morris added 22 with DeMarcus Cousins on 15.

"All season long we've been down guys, guys have been out, different guys have been stepping up and playing well," said Clippers coach Tyronn Lue.

"I keep saying this group is resilient, but this group really is. We're a good team no matter who's on the floor. Now we've got to do it again two more times."

Phoenix coach Monty Williams said the Clippers had played with "desperation."

"It was pretty obvious that we can't play with a 'show up' mentality," he said.

"We showed up in the first quarter, and they played with desperation. The desperation has to be there. You can't just show up and expect them to give it to you."

NBA finals: Antetokounmpo suffers knee injury as Atlanta beat Milwaukee to level series

Milwaukee Bucks' Giannis Antetokounmpo was forced off with a knee injury as they suffered a 110-88 defeat by the Atlanta Hawks that levels their Eastern Conference finals series at 2-2.

Antetokounmpo, 26, had to be helped off court and back to the locker room after landing awkwardly in the third quarter.

He returned unaided to watch from the sidelines, but faces further tests to determine the severity of the injury.

"You lose your best player, it stinks," said Bucks forward PJ Tucker.

"But this is the Eastern Conference Finals. There is no excuse. It doesn't matter whoever is playing, not playing.

"They've got guys hurt. Everybody is hurt. Everybody is banged up. Everybody is injured. You've got to fight through it."

The Bucks trailed by 10 points at the time of Antetokounmpo's injury, but were 25 points behind by the end of the quarter as the Hawks took full advantage of the two-time NBA Most Valuable Player's absence.

Lou Williams, in for the injured Trae Young, top-scored for Atlanta with 21 points while Bogdan Bogdanovic added 20 points, with six Atlanta players finishing in double figures.

"It was a total team effort and guys continue to step in and take advantage of opportunities when they get them," said Hawks coach Nate McMillan.

Game five of the best-of-seven series is in Milwaukee on Thursday.

Suns into the final then CP3 leading from the front.

Bucks certainly have their work cut out if Giannis is out. Apparently no structural damage there but looked to be in some pain when he hobbled off.

[MENTION=150563]Giannis[/MENTION] how's the knee champ.
