Nehal Wadhera's first-ever T20 match came in the IPL when he was picked by Mumbai Indians (MI) for the 2023 season. He made his debut against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), making an immediate impact with a 21-run knock off 15 balls while batting at No. 6.
Throughout the season, MI utilized him as a floater, and he delivered solid performances, including two half-centuries. One of those fifties played a crucial role in MI's successful chase of 199 against RCB.
However, Wadhera did not feature in MI’s starting XI at the beginning of IPL 2024. When he finally got his first game of the season, he impressed with a quickfire 49 off 24 balls. He went on to play a total of six matches that season, as MI endured a disappointing campaign, finishing at the bottom of the table.
Ahead of the 2024 mega auction, MI released Wadhera. Entering the auction with a base price of INR 30 lakh, he attracted bids from Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), and Delhi Capitals (DC), before Punjab Kings (PBKS) secured him for INR 4.20 crore.
