I am liking the steps being taken by the Najam Sethi administration

- Babar has clearly been told that he is not going to enjoy the same perks, privileges, authority that Ramiz allowed him. Afridi and Razzaq have been appointed to curb his domination in selection matters and these two will also have their say in the playing eleven

- The players have been told in no uncertain terms that the PCB will not tolerate anyone talking to the media or social media about PCB decisions and policy matters

- The players will no longer be allowed to post on social media without approval from the PCB

- The PCB has given strict instructions to the PCB media department to stop posting these stupid videos on cake celebrations, traveling diaries, off the field activities of the players

Bottomline the PCB has given a strict message to everyone that the teams performance is the number one paramount goal, non performers will no longer be tolerated and the order to replace Rizwan with Sarfaraz has already been given to drive home the message

I am liking this, some much needed tough love for the team in general.

Aah man I really loved the cake ceremonies

PCB is literally taking the cake here!

They should clamp on the cake parties as well as doing Sajda when getting to 50.

Any daddy hundreds by all means thank the all mighty.

Not a big fan of Sethi but will give him a 2nd chance

Hoping for Babar Azam to be replaced from captaincy across all formats soon..but it should be done in a manner that makes him understand that its for his own betterment..rather than alienating him

Definitely gotta stop those cake videos.

I'm all for curbing player power. Management should have the final say in every important decision. Misbah and Waqar started this battle and for the most part the board had been in support of this during the last decade. Last year seemed like all that hard work had been undone with Saqlain and Ramiz having a different vision. Good first steps by the new management.

Also, Hopefully an end to the Flag hoisting ceremony at every training session

My days what a cringe tradition that was!

It's to garner views on the Youtube channels, people watch them and there is no harm in them.

All these legislative decisions and policy matters is rubbish unless you back it up on field by the end of tomorrow play will give us an indication where this politicised PCB regime is heading, Rameez had the bandwagon of PR but the on field didn't backed him ,

Not sure this is the right approach, will just lead to grouping within the team.

All the main players in the team support Babar.

Excellent. The players serve Pakistan not the other way round. They are overpaid aswell. Definitely need some toughness. Rizwan and Babar especially been treated like kings but lost us 2 World Cups, Asia Cup and 5 test matches. Enough is enough.

Savak, Where you got these inside news from ? just curious .

Not a Sethi's admirer and neither of Afridi and particularly Razzaq but I like some of the actions the new ( basically the old one ) PCB is taking .

Sarfraz's recall is ridiculous and most depressing one , a huge step backward but in a way I'm happy Rizwan is given a jolt , was taking his position for granted , getting a bit cocky.

This is not a political party , no room for personal liking or support , player should support whatever is good for the team and Babar's captaincy is detrimental for the team.

Some of it sounds reasonable.

The bolded parts seem short sighted and "old man yells at clouds" level stuff. Players should be able to post to SM whenever they feel like, outside of matches. Just give them guidelines about, "nothing critical of PCB or team mates and keep posts positive", allow them to be adults and exercise their judgement on controversial topics. Make a media officer available to them if they need guidance.

Building their SM following and content is a legitimate revenue stream for cricketers and can also help them build post cricket careers. Unfair to curtail them beyond just sensible guidelines.

Similarly the tour diary's and little daily cricket snippets are exactly how the young generation engage with content on SM apps these days- if you want to engage with that audience- and as a sport, you absolutely DO want to. That's how kids see their celebrities and follow their heroes. Notice it's mostly only crusty old guys who remember the 90s & 2000s posting on old fashioned messaage boards. Kids are on apps watching videos.

These guys are uneducated and not able to understand what to post. Pakistanis in general need a tight leash otherwise lose all control.

I follow a few YT channels of some of the senior seasoned sports reporters of Pakistan and they quote their sources inside the PCB and the team. Sethi also is more accessible to the media and updates them on PCB meetings and decisions.

+1 how it’s not taken too far

While some of the clampdown is necessary (not talking/leaking anything to media), others seems excessively harsh. Nothing wrong with the birthday celebrations, those are just team building exercises. And captain should always have a say in the team composition as he is the one taking on-field decisions. If they have a problem with Babar, they should sack him, but taking away his input on the team composition is ridiculous.

A captain is ultimately judged on results. When he has been calling the shots and exhibiting clueless selections, tactics then the decision to take away his powers is justified.

Then they should sack him, but half measures serve nothing. If tomorrow Pakistan loses the NZ series inspite of stripping away of Babar’s powers, will he be absolved of the blame bcoz he had no powers to begin with?

Successful teams have historically taken the image of their captain - be it Imran's cornered tigers, Kohli's in-your-face Indians, Steva Waugh's mental "disintegrators", or Williamson's composed New Zealanders - players follow how their captains behave. If Babar's powers are taken away, his respect in the team will go down big time and so will his inspiration. If you have him as captain, you back him full time and give him powers. If you don't like him, then remove him - curtailing his powers will not help Pakistan long term.

Agree that Babar deserves to be sacked. Since Pakistan's next test assignment is in July, they want to take some time before deciding on the next captain.

But I thoroughly agree with the PCB clipping Babars powers. He doesn't deserve it anymore based on the results of his stubborn selections. The team comes first.

It's fine as long as it is done the right way. Ramiz's insistence on making Babar a brand could have led to a much bigger disaster in the long term with us losing Babar's batting at the cost of ever increasing power.

It could have led to Babar's ego increasing to a point it would have hampered is batting and life as well.

Just hope Babar takes it positively and doesn't end up feeling betrayed or humiliated.

Pakistan tbh has been betrayed and humiliated by his incompetent leadership. He needs to be reminded that he is not bigger than the game.

Things were getting out of hand and that comes from the top.

There was no control, statements right left and centre.

Chaos actually.

Needed clamping down upon.

Sethi takes advise from journalists, now all journalists will black mail player to show their closeness to Sethi.

So players can't tweet but no such restrictions for crooks like Shakeel Sheikh

What is wrong with Sajdas , did you have same issue when Rehan from England did it or the religious stuff that was going on in the world cup football.

Good step, those birthday cakes are not good for players training and fitness. Nice start we want wins not white wasshes.

Such power and authority should be earned. If Babar hadn't overseen such disasterous Test results then perhaps all this unchecked power would've been justified.

However he's presided over four consecutive home Test defeats and our first ever home Test series whitewash. The only reason he's kept his post is because the NZL series has come so quickly after the ENG Tests making a captaincy change difficult.

As for PCB cracking down on social media - it's about time. These cringy tweets and awful content is embarrassing especially when results have been so poor.

There has to be a policy for all, players, coaching staff, PCB employees etc

Agree, you cannot block players from tweeting and have officials writing all sorts on social media.

The problem is it had become a free for all, with PCB tweeting all sorts of rubbish.

Pakistan would have lost these matches even if Babar and Rizwan were not in the team.

Agreed, you can't have different rules for different people.

Having worked as a social media specialist. No player makes these tweets themselves. They outsource their twitter accounts to marketing companies or management companies. They do the campaigns and tweets.

Only the dumb tweets are by players. For example, Umar Akmal and his ticktok account :)))

In that case, remove him! Either you trust him as captain or you don’t. You can’t half trust him.
