Salman Ali Agha speaking during the press conference
“This was the first time the team had come here, and almost all the players were playing in these challenging conditions for the first time. Debuting in such situations is tough, but there are positives to take from this experience as we look to move forward. However, there are also concerns to address and rectify, as we aim to improve going forward.”
About preparation ahead of the Asia Cup and World Cup:
“Our goal has always been clear—the Asia Cup and the World Cup. This series and the upcoming matches will help us prepare combinations and provide valuable experience to younger players.”
About youngsters’ performance and lessons learned from this series:
“There are some really exciting youngsters. These conditions are challenging even for those who’ve been here two or three times, let alone the ones playing their first international games. But despite that, they showed character. I believe there’s a lot of talent in this group, and in the coming months, you’ll see them perform differently.”
Regarding the New Zealand pitches:
“New Zealand's conditions are always difficult, especially for teams coming from Asia. It takes time to get used to them, and arriving a day or two before matches doesn’t provide enough preparation. The players did improve as the games progressed, but these conditions were undoubtedly demanding.”
About the struggle of bowling lineup in the series:
“These young bowlers were playing their first matches and, in these conditions, performing well was a difficult task. However, these are the same players who will showcase their skills for Pakistan in the future. This experience is a learning curve for them, and adapting to such conditions will eventually make performing in familiar settings easier. Moving forward, I am hopeful they have learned and are eager to improve.”
About personal performance as a captain:
“It wasn’t satisfying overall because the team didn’t win. I prioritize team victories over my own performance. We didn’t play good cricket as a team, and my performance doesn’t matter much to me under such circumstances. We’ll work towards improving in the future and building a strong combination before the Asia Cup and World Cup.
About the approach:
“The cricket we aim to play is fearless but with smart decision-making. These young players are learning and gaining experience, and in the next series, they will play differently. This new approach in Pakistan cricket will take some time to settle, but we will back these players, and they will continue to improve and perform for Pakistan.”
About the upcoming ODI series, and Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan, Imam-ul-Haq, Abdullah Shafique, and Haris Rauf:
“These players have toured New Zealand before and have the experience to adapt to these conditions quickly. I am confident that the ODI results will be different, as these players know how to perform effectively here. Before the first ODI, I believe the team will have adapted well to the conditions.”
