What's new

New Zealand 24/0 at Stumps on Day 2 after Pakistan made 418/5d (Haris Sohail 147, Babar Azam 127*)

And what if.. they lost the toss in next game?

Still worse can be 1-1, which they'll take, and wait for next PAK tour to NZ .... after PP was expecting PAK to reach 3rd in ranking table with a 3-0, I don't think even 1-2 is a bad result for them.

I don't think NZ will mind this approach. With rain on its way , they will back themselves to bat for a period. Difference is if they bat a long period they will actually have some intent to score.

You can't bat like this in South Africa because a ball will eventually have your name on it.

If NZ reduce the lead around 50-70 they have good chance to win this match. #rd innings by tuktuking we will not score over 150. 200 will be chaseable in this pitch in the fourth innings

A pathetic and coward team. Most likely they are playing to draw this test. A win will be unexpected bonus.

Lol don't think Babar will want to miss out on a 100 again. May tuk tuk his way there.

I see this pitch as a slow one but what is the reason behind scoring at a snails pace for 145 overs ? When do the host declare & will that leave enough time to take 20 wickets ?

PAK needs to play on better "home" wicket as well - playing on such surface doesn't bring killer instinct. If there is not much "action" in the direction of direct result here, I doubt, I'll watch this Test Test in last 2 days.

Looks like it may be difficult to take 20 wickets on this pitch. There is turn but it's slow turn.

:)) PP wrist slitters at it again about SR's

Play deliberately slow to draw the test is the sign of cowardness. This is not our first ever test so we can give impression to the World that we are on the right track. We are playing cricket for more than 70 years.

Although it's not a wicket for free strokeplay, but this inning reminds me of the Maghrib chase Test's SL first innings. They scored around 400 in 2 days. Pak doesn't look like going any higher that 410 today sadly.

Good single taken. Babar should bat up the order . Shafiq knows how to bat with tail, he should stay at 6.

Can't believe there were people who wanted Babar sent back to domestic cricket. As if batting for 40 overs will prepare you for test cricket:)) .

This is how you learn about test batting. By batting for long periods.

Lol Haris may have to show some intent to get Babar back on strike to ensure he gets a 100 before tea. :))

Hopefully Babar gets a 100 in this over. After tea we can open up and put some pressure on NZ.

Haris should be able to get a single here. He's been batting for 400 balls!!!!!!!!

356/4 * (149 ov)

Great score, Just get to 450 by the end of the day, then score another 100 by lunch tomorrow and aim to get 20 wickets in 8 sessions..

At the end of today's play we will be 410-420 and if we play tomorrow whole day we may score 570-580. Draw will be secure by then unless NZ plays aggressively and outball us in the 3rd innings cheaply.

Haris SOhail and babar have nailed their spot for the South African Tour.

Not that we expect the selectors to do anything different.

100 runs before lunch!!! It will take 2 sessions to score that. Pitch will be more slow tomorrow

:))) :))) :))) some of the reactions here. Pakistan has made sure NZ cannot win this test from here tbh lol

356/4 & 31 overs left in the day . Time to slog for 10-12 overs get around 410 & declare . That would leave 17-19 overs for bowling & hopefully pick up a wicket or 2 . Such run rate is besides tedious watching not amenable to producing results . This pitch needs to be relaid too .

149 runs in 59 overs today and 0 wickets lost. Snail pace batting for two set batsmen.

It's rare that a PAK pair has batted for 2 sessions, but they have done it in a painful way; not going to help much. PAK seriously need to think about alternate venues - if not BD, these days SRL is producing some of the best Test wickets in cricket.

Hopefully after Babar reaches his hundred we can cut loose in the final session and give ourselves 5-6 overs against New Zealand tonight.

These pitches in UAE need to be relaid for sure .

Babar is too much cautious in 90s - that helps him in ODI conversion, but already has been stuck in 90s twice in Test.

Looks like PAK players have taken Captain's comment (on converting 100) a bit too seriously.....

Sarfraz won't get a better platform than this to put some scores - 60 overs old ball and a tiered attack with partner on 99.

Great effort by Boult to run in with this effort after being in the field for over 150 overs.
