New Zealand and South Africa are set to face off in the second match of the ongoing ODI tri-series in Pakistan. The game will take place on Monday, February 10, at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium.

The tournament began on Saturday, February 8, with Pakistan taking on New Zealand. The Black Caps secured a dominant 78-run victory and will be looking to continue their winning momentum against South Africa. Meanwhile, the Proteas will be aiming for a strong start to their campaign.

Here’s a preview of the NZ vs SA ODI ahead of the much-anticipated clash.

Temba Bavuma, while addressing a press conference before the match:

"In the World Cup, you have time to take stock and step up. But in the Champions Trophy you can't do that but we are hopeful of going one step further in the tournament."

"Obviously, we have our sights on where we want to be in the Champions Trophy this time but the format makes it more challenging for teams when you look at the 50-over World Cup."

"The tri-series will give us a chance to acclimatise to playing in Pakistan and get knowledge to share it with a wider group and it is also an opportunity for young players to keep on playing in future."

"Maharaj and Shamsi will give us a lot of help as we are presently tight for spin resources for the tri-series."

"We have bowlers who can bowl at high pace with the new ball and also get some shape."

Also, no risk of injury during catches under new lights.
Not many would come to watch anyway for any non pakistan games.
From what I heard it was also done due to logistical reasons as both teams fly to khi later tonight.

Any chance for South Africa to win this game?

Such thick smog/fog in Lahore. Surprising if Saffers manage to play NZ spinners today.

What is this team? Verrynne seen him only in Tests. Others heard in T20 leagues.Bavuma is the only familiar name

The crowd at the stadium is almost nonexistent

SA also has decent depth. Not many would have had experience playing in subcontinent. They are doing a decent job against a vastly experienced team in subcontinental conditions.

What a knock by Breetzke so far. Maybe South Africa should have included him to the CT squad.

South Africa have batted well considering their inexperience, but I think New Zealand will chase it down.

And this is a guy who averages less than 30 in List A cricket.
Clearly he has something that stood out to the selectors. Otherwise you don't see many players with that average getting selected. 150 on ODI debut is seriously impressive. I doubt if anyone has ever managed that in ODI cricket

SO you can safely say 300 par score in pakistan
Karachi is less batter friendly. Even 270-280 can be a good score there. But Lahore and Rawalpindi are very batting-friendly wickets. In Pindi I think any total can be chased down.

He is the highest run getter on debut now. I think he beat Desmond haynes who made 145 or something

Yeah but my point is they have much better players than finished guys like Bavuma and Rassie.

Brevis had a superb SA20 just now and has a vastly superior List A record than someone like Breetzke.

Yeah I agree, they need to move on from both. They are holding the team back in a major way. Hand the ODI captaincy to Markram too. He's a much better captain anyway.

Jumped on PP almost after 4-5 years and we are in the same boat others with C teams scoring far better than us on our home soil. Somethings never changes for e.g. already thinking about what Pakistan will need to do to qualify for the final match here :D and what changes will come right before CT as the current team has no combination.

It is a shame though that tri-series have gone out of fashion. I guess packed international calendar and proliferation of T20 leagues is to blame. But I think if certain boards make an effort among themselves we can still see more of these. All you have to do is combine two bilateral series that teams would have played against each other.

I feel like we have regressed in the last 4-5 years. I'll take stagnation!
Welcome back

If New Zealand loses today then there will be changes in Pakistan's CT squad. Otherwise there won't be any changes. Barring maybe addition of a spinner.

For sure, the issue is that the ICC is such an incompetent sporting body that is prostituting the game for useless T20 leagues

So if South Africa win

We will need to thrash South Africa to qualify for the final

When we played against NZ, I feel like our lower order should have at least played to reduce the NRR deficit. But as always, "all-rounder" Shaheen and co went swinging without thinking, and we could have batted for another 2.1 overs.

Losing by 78 runs vs losing by 60 runs (for example) could, in theory, make a difference in whether we qualify or not.

We have suffered with NRR issues so many times in recent history because we don't plan. We are still incapable of learning from our mistakes.

As PCT fans I think we always found ourselves in some kind of a situation, maybe this is one of the worst times. I dont think we were so bad at winning matches ever and always had someone doing something at the end.

Loool. Shaheen and Naseem had a decent small partnership and so did Abrar and Naseem. Without them Pakistan would've looked at 100+ runs defeat easily.

Blame the batters not the bowlers.

I wasn’t expecting South Africa to even score 250, but I blame the pitch in Lahore. It seems like PCB is deliberately creating high-scoring pitches.

Shaheen was just swinging like an idiot from ball one. He was always going to get caught at mid-wicket. But yes, you are right, the tail did wag.

I just think that if he wants to be an 'all rounder' and a captain, then he ought to use his brains a bit.

junior dala is back today after centuries. Not sure what they did to that Magala guy though

So South Africa team of fringe player's has scored more runs than Pakistan against same NZ bowling attacks

:kp

junior dala is one trash bowler that made babar look like 2nd coming of viv richards

Tbf, ICC can't be blamed for every board in the world wanting to create their own T20 league. Some leagues don't even have board backings, just some people with money funding them.

This is something boards will have to work out among themselves when FTPs are being finalized. It was good foresight from the PCB to organize this series knowing the ICC Champions Trophy would be taking place right after.

South Africa don’t really care
They do ask them why they got whitewashed in odis vs pakistan you guys were saying so called south africa will score 400 to 500 runs in odi but they couldn't even get close to pak 300 totals.
