India (308/6) defeat England (304) by 4 wickets in the 2nd ODI, securing the 3-match series 2-0 with one game remaining

Axar is batting like a dream. He should be one of the very few first choice players for us.

This game has shown India is still reliant on old legends. Rohit, Kohli, and Bumrah.

If these 3 retire, I think India may become a mid-tier team. :inti

No way Pant should be benched and that too for a loser like Rahul even if ODIs is not his stronger suit.

Now some scoreboard experts will tell you - This is very close match as india lost the 6 wickets .

This match is one sided from starting the india innings

Last match India lost a few wickets for a milestone. This time a little bit of carelessness and usual choking from Rahul

Again...don't understand why can't they send out Harshit in this situation to give him some batting time in the middle and also to see how he deals with the pressure.

Pant and Jaiswal are two of the biggest match winners we have with the bat and both are kept on the sidelines to accomodate a has been Kohli and the never been KL.

Rohit may have played well today but he will show his true colors once the champions trophy starts..

Lol so you accept that GSL Lahore, which is supposed to be the home of Pakistan cricket is on par with a tier-3 stadium in India? :ROFLMAO:

And you guys moan when I call your low standards and choti choti khushiyaan out.
In my comment I said Imagine whining about Pakistani stadiums. Not my own.

I'm a class > you both country and passport wise.

I just find it funny that you guys were mocking PK stadiums when your stadiums are junk.

Australia's university school boy stadiums don't ever have floodlight issues 🤣🤣

What a motivation for someone like Jaiswal to get dropped after making his debut.

Kohli is just shameless bar none.

Bla bla bla..

I accept that India's tier 3 stadiums need some work to do and are usually crappy.

Would you say the same about the Lahore stadium which is one of the only 2 or 3 international standard stadiums in Pakistan which also went through a "renovation"? :yk

MCG pink ball Test - Floodlights failed twice . Maybe Australia should play Test cricket in the university school boy stadiums instead of having it at the MCG :srini

What's wrong with thr lahore stadium? I saw the match against NZ go un interrupted?

I didn't have to painfully wait for 35 minutes to watch a quality game between 2 quality sides?

This is a one sided victory over @Rajdeep 's England. India are now clear favourites to win CT and against Pakistan on 23rd February. Do you agree now? :inti

Winning against brainless England team doesn't mean we are favourite just after two games.

There are six other teams also

Rohit powers India to ODI series win over England

England were comprehensively beaten again in the second one-day international in Cuttack as India clinched the series with a match to spare.

After setting their hosts 305 to win, England's struggles on tour continued as captain Rohit Sharma hit a majestic 119 from 90 balls to power India towards victory.

The opener was caught after miscuing a Liam Livingstone full toss in the 30th over but by that stage only a further 85 runs were needed. India stuttered but still won with four wickets and 33 balls remaining.

While Rohit's century was his first for India for 11 months, England are still searching for form under new coach Brendon McCullum.

They wasted a platform set through an opening partnership of 81 by Ben Duckett and Phil Salt, failing to kick on after Duckett was caught for 65.

Despite all of England's top six making it beyond 25, Joe Root was the highest scorer with 69 and England were dismissed with a ball remaining in their 50 overs.

The final match of the series, England's last before their Champions Trophy opener against Australia on 22 February, is in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.

England will assess the fitness of all-rounder Jacob Bethell in the coming days after a hamstring injury ruled him out in Cuttack and left his participation in the Champions Trophy in real doubt.

Joke aside , we are still not tested enough.

Hopefully we bat first in next match so I wanna see how our bowling attacks defend the total .

Ohh next match is at narendra modi (panoti) stadium . Whenever we play a match there its reminding me of 19 november . ,:(

They think everyone can become wannabe fan's these days.

The funny thing is, some NRIs suddenly want to act like Indians now that their own team got a big ‘phainta’ from India. But the moment England takes a beating, they are right back to waving Indian flags. :inti

India won the earlier game despite Kohli and Bumrah being absent, and Rohit underperforming. The T20 series was won without any senior player being present. The only mid tier teams in South Asia are Bangladesh, and increasingly, Pakistan.

England captain Jos Buttler on local British sports media outlet:

"I thought we did a lot of things well. We got in some nice positions with the bat. We just needed a few of us to catch fire and get up towards 350. Rohit played a terrific knock."

On why England chose to bat: "We thought it looked a good wicket. We wanted to get runs on the board. Maybe it skidded on a bit but the opposition played well. Our guys at the start played well, played the powerplay brilliantly, but we needed another gear to kick on. Maybe 350 would have been defendable."

On what England will work on before the third ODI: "We've just got to keep making steps in the right direction. The results aren't there at the moment but we've got to keep the guys on task, play the style we want, and stay positive."

Player of the match Rohit Sharma speaking to local British sports media outlet:

"It was good, I really enjoyed being out there, scoring some runs for the team. Obviously it was an important game, the series on the line. I really broke it down into pieces, how I wanted to bat - an ODI is longer than a T20, it's a lot shorter than Test cricket but you still need to work out what you need to do at regular intervals. That was my focus."

On the conditions: "Looking at the pitch, when you play on black soil, the ball tends to skid. It's important to show the full face of the bat initially. Once I started to hit it, I worked out what they were trying to do, that's where I prepared my plan, what I wanted to do to their deliveries. It’s all about finding what you want to do as a batter and I had support from Shubman and Shreyas as well."

On Shubman Gill: "We enjoy looking at how each other bat, Gill is a very classy player. I’ve seen him at close quarters over the years, he doesn't get overwhelmed by the situation. He goes out there and reads the situation. It's classy to watch from the other side.

"The middle overs are where the game can go either way. If you stay in, it gives you a chance not to worry too much about your depth. We want to keep getting better as a team. Everyone has a job to do and needs to do it perfectly, that's what we want to do."

That is now five wins and 26 losses (with one tie) for England in the last 32 ODIs against India in India.

:kp

The idea to play Axar in the middle order is superb. Gives India a left hander in the middle overs and ensures that Pandya only comes to hit in the death overs.
India's major problem in big tournament was always the no.8 batsman. Beacuse of 4 tailenders in the backend India always played cautiously after 2 or 3 wickets go down. This happened over and over. In the 2023 final to complicate matters India lost Pandya as well. Adding useless SKY Indian batting was down to 5 batsmen rest tail. If INdia had gone with 8 batsmen like they did in 2024 world T20 they would have won a lot more tournaments. Their problem was going in with 5 batsmen who couldn't bowl, 4 bowlers who couldn't bat. One fake all rounder Jadeja. That's it. This structure is not designed to handle unexpected collapses. Going in with 5 specialist bowlers is a stupid idea. India obliterated everyone with that line up. But once India lost Pandya it becamse severely handicapped.

RoKo is coming back to form right in the nick of time for IND.

England has gotten lazy after 2019 WC win which itself was a bit dodgy. If they didnt get humiliated by Rubel Hossain in 2015, they probably would've never changed their ODI mindset.

Bharat has made England look like a minnow in the last few matches when England would absolutely crush most teams right now.

Ind is not at all reliant on Kohli. In reality, he is a big liability for the team. His last note worthy performance was way back in the WC2023. In this series, he didn't play the 1st ODI and got out cheaply in the 2nd ODI (despite a patta wicket). Ind won both matches convincingly. Fact check: Kohli is finished and should be axed ASAP. Ind doesn't need Kohli (even while chasing a 300+ total). Same can't be said about Rohit or Bumrah though. And Bumrah isn't exactly an old legend. He is 30. Still has min 5 yrs left if his workload is handled properly.

I think pant and Jaiswal will get a chance in next odi.Gill will be rested as he looks in good form.
Gambhir is obsessed with left/right combo. So he won't like too many lefties. Ideally KL Rahul should not even be with the squad. I am not sure why he returned to INdian side. He was kicked out from T20 set up. After WC final he should have been permanently binned from ODI set up as well.

He got good back up otherwise no sane person will make him captain rt after the pathetic cowardice final innings. In Lanka also same happened. First 2 matches he went missing and pant played last match. It looks everything is tied to roko.once they both leave, a lot of youngsters will get an opportunity to fight for the place and kl will be pushed out.Already reports suggest that gambhir wants Samson as back up keeper and rohit shot it down.Jurel can be trusted in odis for sure with his clutch mentality as additional requirement.

Hopefully Jaiswal and Arshdeep will play in next game along with Sundar.

Sundar is likely dropped from the champion trophy team if Varun selected

Yea. Varun's stock delivery comes back into right handers which is the same as Sundar. Sundar's batting is a plus. But with Axar and Jaddu certain to play Sundar won't have a spot. But India can alternate between Varun and Kuldeep depending on the opposition.

I find Varun nothing special. And to think we are dropping a generational talent like Kuldeep, this looks extremely foolhardy.

Kuldeep will be in the starting XI for sure provided he has no injury issue. This was just to experiment.

If our batsmen are in form, we should have played both kuldeep and varun to create havoc.due to leeches, we need to have bowlers who can contribute in batting irrespective of their main skill.

Varun will need lot of odis under his belt.i think he is just a safety cushion for kuldeep in case of any injury.

No , our batsman can't play freely when we don't have any depth .

We need batting depth these days in limited Overs cricket

7 batsmen we will go back to trophyless era. one top order collapse away from imploding. With 8 batsmen top order collapse won't matter much.

yes We can have only one spinner with no batting ability. Cannot have 2 spinners with no batting abilities because there will always be 2 seamers with no batting abilities.

He is an exceptional T20 spinner because he gets a lot of dip and bounce . But yeah I don't think hrs a long format option.

We just need Fully fit Bumrah and Inform Kohli to become favourite for the champion trophy

Plus Pant insted of KL as an wicketkeeper batsman

Not sure I agree with this.

He has been dropped plenty of times in all 3 formats despite being fully fit.
