What's new

New Zealand [348/6] beat India [347/4] by 4 wickets in the first ODI, lead series 1-0

India shouldnt have discarded Iyer after his SA tour. It was his first overseas tour and should have given another series to evaluate.

How dearly we missed someone like Iyer during last WC!

He would have surely been an upgrade over the likes Jadhav, Karthik, Pant, grandpa etc...

Same happened with Gill last year after playing 2 matches in greentops and he failed,Now he is struggling to get into the side.

Kohli has asked Rahul to make no.5 slot his own. Good to see Rahul repaying Kohli's faith in him.

Rahul is the most stylish and aesthetically pleasing bat in the world right now.

Laxman has put KL Rahul in the league of Rohit, Kohli which is correct at this point. He is in sublime form

Rahul is yet to hit a single 4, however he has hit 4 6s already...

Great batting from Iyer. Hope he gets his first ton today.

It's good that he is not struggling otherwise Kohli would have tell him to play as an opener after failing 1 match.

What a fine talent Shreyas Iyer is. A pleasure watching him.

Lol, Iyer toying with Southee.

Wannabe nowhere to be found.

Southee should retire yaar.

He is such a downgrade to Boult. So much experience yet....

Iyer was a dream to have at no.4 which is getting fulfilled now for India.

Yeah not at all convinced about Iyer or Rahul, either consistency or T20 Wc they gotta perform, that miss and this bowling lol

From CI,

Bharath Seervi, our statistician: First time since 2015 India have had century stands for 3rd and 4th wkts in an ODI, 5th such instance overall.

We were so dependent on our top-3 and it looked in our last 2 WC campaigns....

Much needed firepower in our middle order. However, I'll keep my fingers crossed as Kiwis are quite dire without Boult, Henry & Ferguson.

First international ton for Iyer...

Well done, lad.

Confidence is such a key thing - so understated in life & in many circumstances. K l Rahul, Iyer proving it so emphatically. one may have abilities, skill, talent but those are nothing when one has no confidence.

Rahul is in unreal touch. For the first time in years, I look forward to watching him over any other Indian batsman. Amazing player!

We've slowed down quite a bit over last few overs despite that 6.

This partnership is worth 134*, coming in just 16 overs.

Appears Iyer is better suited to the #4 position in which he is expected to excel. Good knock today, hope he improves his power hitting too which will be a bonus for India.

Still not sold on Shreyas yet. Couple of dropped chances to reach his 100. And his dancing inside the crease is just not working out. Hits monster sixes against spinners, but goes missing while facing the fast bowlers. Technically not impressive. But credit where it's due, he's making his chances count. Will have to wait and see how consistent he gets in the future games.

With proper selection s like iyer and the extra quick in saini, we could've won the whole thing. Instead we played 3 keepers and 3 spinners for a CWC in England :salute

Not comparing accomplishments and technique, but for sheer hitting ability and impact, there is no one better than Rahul in our setup. Changes gears effortlessly when in flow.

True. That was a muddled selection of a WC squad, if ever there was one.

Southee should just retire, Jhadav is smacking him now, how easy is the pitch? are we 60 short?

Southern has simply lost pace. Since 2019 , he has strictly become an 80 mph trundler. Lost around 5ks on average pace.

Unfortunate.. he has been a good cricketer for long but whenever i have seen him after 2015 wc he has been smacked

Jadhav has spoiled Rahul's chance to get his 100.

Wuaah!! That switch hit for Six! Rahul are you kidding me? What the hell has happened to you in 2018??

Hope Kl Rahul gets his century... wishful ...but deserving - as it is the easily the most entertaining knock of the match, overshadowed Kohli & Iyer already.

There were plenty of Indian fans last year. Looks like nobody wants to watch NZ anymore.

Playing the B team certainly doesn't help.

I was watching the Lakers game over this and I usually follow all our games.

Ideal bowler to take advantage of in the last over.

Southee should be dropped from LOIs squads after this series. Doesn't deserve a starting or squad spot. He's finished.

Poor last over should've gotten 6-10 runs more than what India got. Still plenty to win for India unless thakur has other plans.

1-162 in 20 overs between Southee and Bennett.

These two should not be taking squad spots.

Goes missing against fast bowlers? He smoked Mitchell Starc of all people few weeks ago in India.

Excuse starting before match finished . remember india team without Dhawan , Rohit,Pandya,Bhuvi
