Pakistan Test hopefuls get one chance to hone their skills in New Zealand ahead of the 2-Test series.

New Zealand A XI

Henry Cooper, Rachin Ravindra, Ken McClure, Michael Bracewell (c), Joe Carter, Cam Fletcher (wk), Nathan Smith, Michael Rippon, Matt Henry, Ed Nuttall, Michael Rae

Shaheens XI:

Shan Masood, Abid Ali, Azhar Ali, Imran Butt, Fawad Alam, Rohail Nazir (c & wk), Amad Butt, Yasir Shah, Sohail Khan, Mohammad Abbas, Naseem Shah

I will play as many Test players as possible. They need practice. Unlucky for some of the Shaheens but necessary.
 
Looking forward to Haris Sohail's batting. Havent seen him in action in forever.

They'll probably go with this. maybe they'll take out Zafar and Amad and go with a proper batsman and bowler instead, with a long tail.
 
This has been reduced to a farce. Hopefully the test squad get somewhat used to the conditions. Could have the opposite effect too. Score here, get overconfident and then get owned by Boult and company come the tests.

I'll play Amad and if he does well get him into the team. He has been in really good form in the domestic circuit as well. Haris and Fawad both will play, and seeing the conditions in the WI games, I don't think we need Yasir. He is going to go at 5 an over and will not be of much help even in the fifth day (provided we last that long). Amad provides much better balance, especially if we end up bolwing first.

There is the question about who replaces Babar as well, if he (highly likely) misses the first test? The only other batsman (who isn't in the test team already), I see getting a game here is Rohail.

The options are Imam, Rohail, Imran, Haider, Abdullah, Sarfraz and Talat. Hopefully it's not Sarfraz and Imam.
 
If Babar misses out, we should look to play this Test lineup:

1. Abid Ali
2. Shan Masood (vc)
3. Imran Butt
4. Azhar Ali
5. Haris Sohail
6. Fawad Alam
7. Mohammad Rizwan (wk) (c)
8. Amad Butt
9. Mohammad Abbas
10. Shaheen Afridi
11. Naseem Shah

I don’t see any other way we’ll be competitive in this series.

(As far as spin goes, Fawad, Haris, and Azhar can all provide better control with their spin than Yasir Shah who will go for runs on green tracks - instead I’ve maintained 4 pacers).
 
Simple. Given the situation and no practice games , I would make it non first class game. 13 selected and 11 field. Out of 16 just drop Danish, Zeeshan, and Imran Butt who have zero chance of making it to test xi on this tour anyway. In fact they should have put Danish and Zeeshan with t20 folks but perhaps they put them here to give them more time with s
Shaheen coach.
 
This was supposed to be a game for the Pakistan A team and now all those Test seniors are playing. So in a way Misbah has done a great favour to Saud Shakeel and allowed him to play FC cricket instead of sitting on the bench.

Forget everything, I’m worried about Haris Sohail. Did he see another ghost?
 
Just need to bide your time, once the ball gets older it’ll come onto the bat easier.
 
Abid is defo a nono in tests ..imran butt is in he will do better in my opinion. Its a First class match so they cant even chop and change
 
Barring one batsman, the whole batting lineup of this team needs a reboot.
 
They've barely had any chance to get used to the conditions. Not surprised if the batsmen struggle. Abid and World XI Shan clearly have been found out by the new ball already.

I think both should be given the series but abid is dropped he needs to be dropped permanently

I think abid should be given the series hes good in asain conditions but poor in sena.i really like imran butt thou
 
Shan and Abid performing exactly like you would expect them to perform in NZ.

Shan needs a couple of series against SL, or BD to ensure place in Wisden's 2021 team
 
Asian teams struggle New Zealand anyway but this time it will even harder for batsmen to adjust to
NZ pitches.Let the match finish before we start making wild statements.
 
Shan Masood's decision looked questionable. I reckon it hit him outside the line. Imran Butt looks to be good against the short ball, has hit Matt Henry for a couple of very good pull shots.

Yep I reckon Shan was unlucky.
 
Would like Imran Butt to push his case for selection. He has a higher up-side than Abid as a test opener
 
Fawad is literally a tailender in these conditions. Would have loved Saud shakil in his place

With babar not playing Fawad is certain to start. Personally I won't mind 3 openers if Babar misses first test
 
Hope Amad butt can impress with bat

If he can hold bat. He can be tried for the role that Fahim was given by Arthur

Yes I did he couldn't even hit a leg stump half volley for 4. Even tail enders will put them away. I have seen enough of fawad over the years to know he's utter garbage.
 
Amman butt goes as well. How is nutall of all people troubling pakistan.
 
Nuttall was a big prospect when he first came through 5 or 6 years ago. Shane Bond rated him highly when he was doing some coaching work for Canterbury. Sharp pace and good left arm swing, very much a Boult-style bowler. His career got waylaid with back injuries and he's only recently started to string consistent performances together. Good to see he looks to be coming on nicely this season.
 
Fawad is a walking wicket in these conditions. We need to play Imran Butt, bring in Haris instead of Fawad and add Amad/Fahim/Talat lower down the order if we are to stand any chance in the 1st test. Unfortunately this game makes it seem as if we’ll just play Haris or an out of position Imran Butt at #4. What a mediocre Test team Misbah has selected for this tour.
 
Pakistan have a lot of batsmen in the right age group to progress who are nowhere to be seen.

Four of the top five are the wrong side of 30 and all but one scored less than 10.

Imran Butt and Rohail Nazir each scored more than Abid, Fawad and Shan combined.

Don’t you get tiered of this? Every time your target changed to fit in your logic. This time Abid because Azhar, who is few year older than Abid is basically carrying bat for PAK A against some unknown Kiwi bowlers.

Bottom line is, there is not enough batting resources and youngsters are not earning their spot. You know your cricket and that’s why it sound so funny that innings of 27 & 21 is used an examples.
 
Imran is an opener and has been one for quite a while. Playing him at 4 doesn't seem like that good a move to me.

Why is Haris not playing this game though? They can't be thinking about not playing him. Or his fitness is once again the issue?

Fawad and Abid failing shouldn't be a shock to anyone. It was the most expected outcome.
