The Indian team, led by Virat Kohli will take on Kane Williamson's New Zealand at The Oval on Saturday, aiming to find answers to their ideal playing combinations ahead of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2019.

Overview

India v New Zealand

The Oval, London
2019 ICC Cricket World Cup Warm-up
Saturday 25 May, 10:30 local time, 10:30 BST

India had won four consecutive ODI series, including the Asia Cup, before they were handed their first ODI series loss at home since October 2015 by Australia. The outcome posted serious questions on the team's balance going into the World Cup. However, a large part of the squad, including the skipper Virat Kohli, seem to be in fine form, thanks to some stellar individual performances during the recently concluded Indian Premier League.

Shikhar Dhawan, MS Dhoni and Hardik Pandya's recent form come as a great positive. Rohit Sharma, India's opening batsman and vice-captain, and Kuldeep Yadav, the left-arm wrist-spinner, were among two of India's key players that were a bit off-colour during the IPL though. They will want to make amends during the warm-ups.

New Zealand lost the ODI series to India at home but redeemed themselves after clean-sweeping Bangladesh with three resounding wins. The batting unit which revolves around the experienced trio of Martin Guptill, Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor is capable of posting big totals against any opposition. Tom Latham's finger injury presents opportunity for the uncapped Tom Blundell to justify his selection in the national squad.

A well-rounded pace attack, quality spinners and genuine all-rounders make up a formidable unit for the Kiwis. New Zealand, who had their best ever World Cup campaign in 2015 will look to fine-tune things quickly to try and go the whole distance this time.

Key Players:

Shikhar Dhawan (India): Shikhar Dhawan has been India's most prolific run scorer in ICC tournaments since the ICC Champions Trophy 2013. He was India's leading run-scorer at the 2015 World Cup and now, after a good season with Delhi Capitals, Dhawan looks all set to produce more match-winning performances for India. The left-hander who has fond memories at this venue, having scored two hundreds previously, will relish the flat batting conditions.

Trent Boult (New Zealand): Currently ranked second in MRF Tyres ICC ODI Bowlers' Rankings, Trent Boult will be New Zealand's key weapon during the World Cup. His ability to swing the new ball with pace has troubled the best of top-order batsman in recent years. The left-arm pacer, who was the joint highest wicket taker (22 wickets) in the tournament's previous edition, will relish bowling with the new ball in English conditions.

Conditions:

There are no chances of rain with partly cloudy conditions expected for most part of the day. The Oval has traditionally been a high scoring venue and teams might look to chase keeping the flat batting conditions in mind. However, dry weather and large square boundaries might just bring spinners into play.

Squads:

India: Virat Kohli (C), Rohit Sharma (VC), Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Vijay Shankar, MS Dhoni (WK), Kedar Jadhav, Dinesh Karthik, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami

New Zealand: Kane Williamson (capt), Tom Blundell (wk), Trent Boult, Colin de Grandhomme, Lockie Ferguson, Martin Guptill, Matt Henry, Tom Latham (wk), Colin Munro, Jimmy Neesham, Henry Nicholls, Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi, Tim Southee, Ross Taylor.

India will win it easily

You projected the Afghan 3 wicket win correct and I had predicted afg we’re gonna win the match let’s see about this one it’s a very flat wicket I see kiwis chasing whatever india post it won’t be a score like England’s so kiwis for me

The supposed hitman still can't play inswinging deliveries. You would expect him to make changes like kohli did to his game but nah.

Damn this rohit dismissal was carbon copy of ct17 final even the way he went to dhawan to ask for a review

If only Shaheen or Amir get their mojo back, Sharma will be a lamb ready to be slaughtered.

Man boult is just too good when it swings unplayable so that’s India’s batting line up anyone left ?

Interesting. England could be the biggest loser if the wickets turn out so random at the main event.

Maha phatta warriors getting exposed by a bit of movement.

Better hope all the wickets are flat because against Aus and SA, it will get ugly.

These same phattas batsman showed you your status in your home.
A teams beating minnows in their own den shouldn't be making any noise

Damn I feel for kohli he carries the weight of one trillion hopes on his shoulders and he ran so quick to get kl off strike cause he knows kl will be a sitting duck against boult

if conditions favour swinng bowling this lad boult becomes doubly dangerous.
Easily the best left arm pacer today. Pace+swing+accuracy.

He has made changes to his front foot stride when facing left armers. He momentarily regressed and/or Boult just got better of him.

I don’t see anything wrong in this.

He is clearly stating that NZ beat minnows.

He is not calling NZ minnows.

Calm down and read it again.
I can also call you dumb for not being able to read clearly but we mustn't let people know our manners, should we?

You were talking to Aman about beating them at their own home and continued to talk about that minnows shouldnt make any noise? So if NZ isnt the minnow here, who were You talking about?

How ridiculous is the umpire's guard/shield. Do not like the sight of that, especially in a 50 over game.

Hey what do you think about kl rahuls selection as an Indian I honestly believe he’s really good but will never be able to perform at the international stage for some reason and also he was selected based off IPL which is pretty stupid because he’s been performing forever in IPL and his international performances well we know

You're clearly calling nz minnows.

I said that nz team was beating minnows(pakistan, bangladesh, sri lanka) before we arrived and showed them their status.
Next time pay attention clearly.
And this same Rohit Sharma played this same trent boult very well after making some adjustments and was among the highest run makers.

Aman is back being arrogant after hiding when Rayadu and Shankar were thrashing the Kiwis in NZ. Triggered easily as always.

As I said in the other thread,

Kohli >> Babar > Imam, Fakhar >>> Rohit, Dhawan

India is super light with their batting line up today lol Bhuvaneswar comes at 7 . That is possibly the longest tail in the history of world cup

Thid world cup is his last chance. He has been selected bcoz kohli believes in his talent.

He has done well in internationals in spurts.

In the home series against Australia, he was a match of Smith and outperformed Pujara and Kohli.

These days, he is a mental midget.

3 down.

There's little to do with the pitch, the batsmen just aren't very good in these conditions.

This has nothing to do with Pitch lol This was just bad batting by KL Rahul. His career is full of these kind of dismissals

Man I just said it and he’s gone lol this guy is an amazing player but he’s jinxed guys he’s just jinxed at the international level

Where are you guys watching? When I press the red button on sky sports cricket channel, it only gives me the option to watch the Eng v Aus game.

jnaveen1980 this is what I was talking about the other day and it’s all happening but it’s practice so doesn’t really matter but here is pandya and it’s not IPL

Let's hope he plays, the guy never seems to score runs. Walking wicket.

Vijay shankar played beautifully under these conditions in NZ after 10/3 and India won the match. Now he is not there.

I like this from boult.
He pitches the ball up and goes for wickets and in the process he is bound to give away few boundaries but thats a good bargain
Lesson for Pak bowlers

Boult has rolled over so many top batting sides in swinging conditions. No suprirse. Batsmen has to wait until his first spell is over. In the second spell he is super harmless.
