What's new

New Zealand fight back on Day 2 against Pakistan, 56/1 in second innings after limiting lead to 74

since bilal asif is played as an offie we could have dropped hafeez moved azhar to opening and played saad ali somewhere between middle overs

Kiwis are better against Off-spin. An Offie was essential against AUS, but against Kiwis, it's equally important to have a SLAO spinner. In that regard, whatever ever little off-spin was required, probably Asad could have served. PAK should have gone with 6 batsmen & 2+2 specialist bowlers, plus added overs from Haris. I am sure in similar context IND would have gone with that combination bringing Gohar for Bilal, opening with Azhar/Imam and bringing one proper batsman at #6, promoting Babar & Haris at 4 & 3.

Doesn't appear like 72 runs was a big enough lead.

Chasing anything above 150 will be tricky on a wearing surface.

I think, PAK doesn't want to "expose" Hafeez too much with ball. In LO, it is essential for him to bowl for a balance, but in Test it's optional. Also, having scored a hundred, MoHa doesn't need to justify his all-round facet here, hence he won't be interested much to bowl.

Hafeez isn't a mystery spinner that they feel that he will be "exposed" if he bowls.

The whole point is that he's got a track record against lefties which is good and trying him out when there's one at the crease isn't much an issue unless he goes for plenty and then you can just take him off.

Pakistan doesn't utilise him much which either indicates that it could be due to his action coming into dispute and that they don't want to risk having it done for.

Australia was the best side
when pak trashed Australia you said new zealand are better then Australia Pakistan don't Stand a chance bolt with be unplayable
Now your saying new zealand are weak

Appreciate Pakistan for a change

agree with these suggestion playing 4 bowlers + overs from any decent bowler in tests.
for onedays u have to pick 5 frontline bowlers

Selecting someone like Bilal Asif goes to show how pathetically poor Pakistan's domestic level is that they can't produce decent off spinners in all these years.

Rameez: "NZ will be concerned about Raval's SR"

Franklin" There's over 3 days left Rameez"

:))

Same us some posters were complaining about Pak run rate. It is a test match strike rate is not important unless you have limited overs left to chase.

Looks like we will loose this match. Our batsmen failed to capitalize in the first innings.

Still, long, long, long way to go - beauty of Test match is it's won by session. Looks like Kiwis are going to win this session, but PAK can come back tomorrow morning and get 3-4 wickets - game is almost won.

They're called it off and that's stumps :))

Barely an hour or two of play will be possible tomorrow is what the news is.

NZ's day. We looked to have ran out of ideas towards the end with Williamson looking set.

Need another big performance from Abbas.

Great day for Kiwis, almost pulled the game to even keel after getting out for 153 on Day 1. Whoever wins Day 3, wins the Test.

A day belonging to New Zealand. Pakistan didn't have an answer to New Zealands counter attack

Wrong headline. Pakistan never surrendered any advantage. They had a 74 run lead. Kiwiz are still trailing.
Lets not forget Aussies were 142/0 to 202/10
Nzl were 111/3 to 152/10

In any case Pakistan will chase down the target as long as it is not above 200.

Sarfaraz the batter needs to take much of the blame..with Babar in good touch all he had to do was survive but played a reckless shot to expose the tail

I'm not comfortable with Pakistan chasing any target above 100. NZ is on course to get more than that, leaving aside a dramatic collapse.

This.
Still It's not went out of Pak's hand. Anytime a Kiwi collapse can happen. But definitely a Kiwi fightback. I think it was Kiwi day

We are England's bogey team, it means nothing. However, it will change soon.

Lol “bogey” team logic. So Abbas taking 8 wickets in Lords and Barbar Azam playing a match winning knock was due to some divine superstition and has nothing to do with skill.

Lol we can claim England is India's bogey team.

Pakistan is not in a great position right now if early wickets don’t fall tomorrow. Abbas will be looking to get breakthroughs in the morning however if couple of their batsmen end up building a partnership our batsmen will have to come up with some performance to win it for us batting 4th on a tough pitch.

this is a difficult pitch to bat on. I hope fans are appreciating the batting excellence being displayed by williamson and raval.

Kiwis have done well, but it will be hard for them..still.very good.ceback Williamson is regaining respect.

Not a good day. 300 should have been the minimum score, around a 150 lead. Now we have let the Kiwis back in the game big time.

Awful day for Pakistan. New Zealand's day for sure and probably NZ are slightly ahead, we need to take 1-2 more wickets before they enter a lead, I reckon NZ will be confident of defending anything over 230

Yes, we are all very happy that we do well against England. After all, it is the only thing that matters in Test cricket. You can be ranked 7, you can lose a home Test series to Sri Lanka, you can lose a home Test to West Indies. Everything is water under the bridge and the world is a bed of roses as long as you don't lose at Lord's or Oval.

No way. 150+ and NZ are favourites. 230 and they are 80% home.
