that i know but the way he bats doesnt give you any confidence that he can survive even for an over. he doesnt have a defensive game to bat at 7, he can only use long handle and batting him ahead of yasir is not a good idea i would think.

In Domestics, Bilal is perceived as "all-rounder", because he doesn't bowl much (30 overs/game for a finger spinner is not a front-line spinner), therefore he is given more batting opportunities up in the order and he can slog - over a 10-12 years career one should get couple of good innings, particularly in domestics where standard in not even (there are many poor teams). If you send Amir, Yasir or Hasan regularly at 6-7 for a FC team, they'll get a hundred or two as well over a long career - Bilal just doesn't look to be a Test potential either with bat or ball, and he is like 34-35; may be for LO, but for Test PAK should invest on Gohar & try to find a proper Offie.
 
Wicket at wrong time - Boult should start next over with 2nd new ball.

Exactly what I was about to post. You look at the way batsmen gave their wickets away - it’s terrible.

Only Boult’s wicket of Asad was a genuine good wicket taking delivery.

forget about AB, Smith Kohli Babar can learn from Musfiq how he absorb pressure and score runs by protecting tailenders.
 
With this attitude Babar can never be a respectable batsman for the opposition teams
 
Babar - an experienced batsman of 50+ tests is not shielding the babies out there. Boo hoo.

So you want Babar to not take singles on offer and move the scoreboard along. Any runs he scored gets added to teams total not just his personal register. Bilal and Yasir are capable to bat. Protecting them would mean even less scoring for Pak.
 
Psychologically we need a 100 run lead at least.

Really disappointed with the batting though and doesn't bode well for South Africa - seems most of our batsmen can concentrate only to the point where they get 20 or 30 before throwing their wickets away..

When you grew up on batsmen like Younis Khan and Inzamam-ul-Haq who never settled for 50s but would go on to score 150s, 200s and even 300s, then it is disheartening to see.
 
The amount of crying on this forum is insane. Agree we could have done a lot better with the bat but we also need to understand we are playing the likes of hafeez and azhar ali.
Lets hope we get a 100 plus lead and our bowlers show up again once more:sarf2
 
Surprised to see criticism of babar for not farming the strike. You don't protect when you're 6 and 7 down. This reflects on how poor Bilal and Yasir are in batting. Our tailenders need to learn how to block rather than becoming Viv Richards themselves when you have a set batsman at the other end. What were those shots by Bilal and Yasir? Terrible.

Because even if Babar is extremely limited player but he has ability to score more than out tail enders. So all together our tailenders can score 20-30 runs, instead if he protect them and leave 1~2 balls for them to adjust the pitch. By this way our team can score more.
 
If they replaced minnow bashers Imam and Hafeez with proper bats Pak could have scored 300 here.

Azhar needs to open alongside Fakhar so that we can add another proper bat in order to look a serious side in SA.

Young Babar is showing great temperament with eye pleasing technique. He will be the one to take on their role soon
 
If one looks at the batting display post lunch ( I didn't see the morning session), it is easy to conclude that these guys lack intent - just don't wanna be there. Their batting lacks planning - example The Captain. Why in the world would you set yourself in a trap in a test match on a wicket which is molasses. No wonder why we never get ranked higher. This whole attitude is lazy as if someone is just forced to stand out in the middle. Do they even want to play test match I wonder?
 
The pitch isn't that much threatening. Its just the poor batting. Most of our players gave their wickets away.
 
Battiing here in the fourth innings won’t be easy, the bowlers have to perform a really well and try to restrict New Zealand under 250 in the second innings if our lead Is just a 100.

Now Babar is exposing Abbas. A brainless and selfish player. Any top team would dispose players like this.
 
Babar could't hide anymore with his inabilities against quality bowlers and finally got out.
 
So many times we have seen babar azam getting out like this. Whats his problem?
 
In the UAE, Boult has looked in a different league compared to Starc.
 
Ramiz is a jinxer of the highest order! I mean he kept on trying to jinx Babar and as soon as he said that Babar has cracked the code for test matches, I knew something bad was about to happen.
 
This innings from Pakistan is so disappointing in so many ways. My top 3 disappointments from this innings:

1. Pakistan batsmen repeating the same mistakes again e.g. Haris gets to his 30s and looks as lazy as a ...
2. Sarfraz just can't build a performance over another. Lack of consistency.
3. Was hoping for a 200+ lead but no one converted the starts
 
Test match beautifully set up, reminds me of the India-Australia test in Bengaluru last year.

ok we are very poor test side just want to ask why nz got out for 153 against a poor legspinner, glorified allrounder, fast bowler with rough patch, and harris the part timer with abbbas being the only quality bowler

I think they would need to re-jig the batting order again next match. Azhar is so woefully out of form that he cannot be anywhere in the top 3. He should come in at 4 and Haris should be where Babar is right now. I am getting tired of Haris's lack of focus as soon as he gets his 30s.
 
Meanwhile I'm looking forward to the chase of Australia vs South Africa - One off T20
 
Hope Safraz's poor shot does not effect his captaincy this innings. Kane was so good with his field settings after he got a bit of a sniff that the innings can be wound up quickly
 
This is a decent lead imo. NZ really threw it away in their first innings. I don't expect them to do any better this time. Their batting looks extremely weak.
 
In the modern cricket, tail is expected to survive a few balls. There's no excuse especially in UAE.
 
Kiwis lost 7/43 & PAK 6/50 or so, which suggests it's not an easy wicket to bat for new batsmen. One master innings 2nd time should win this Test - Will, Ross, Latham, Babar, Asad or Haris?
