What's new

New Zealand fight back on Day 2 against Pakistan, 56/1 in second innings after limiting lead to 74

Disappointing batting display. Been at least 3 soft dismissals in an innings where we should've batted NZ out of the game.

Pakistan aren't going to be dropping Azhar and Imam for the next test even if they don't score in the next innings.

Pakistan don't make changes like that if so it could be in the 3rd that they could.

NZ made a big mistake by playing two spinners. Against Pakistan, you need to play fast bowlers, even in the UAE. Southee, Boult, Wagner, Ferguson. Pakistan wouldn't make 200 even once. It's shocking that Pakistan has only produced 1 quality player of fast bowling in the past 30 years: Inzamam. The current crop is diabolical.

I think, Sarfraz's intention was right, tried to take the game away. But, he is just not good enough for the task. Today was the ideal situation for him against 65 overs old ball to score a 60 ball 50 and take the game away from Kiwis, but he got out to a spinner!!!!

You haven't seen the end of the Test yet- remember, it's a 2 innings game & PAK will bat 4th.

Pathetic batting so far by are so called senior players.

Imams wicket was a no ball which wasn't given. Again the shot was wrong and the same goes for Hafeez too.

Had Hafeez stayed, Pakistan would have been around 210 by now.

Anwar was good against fast bowlers

All pakistan weak batting now been exposed like i thought it would in this series.

Did you not see how Pakistan crumbled against WI chasing 170 odd against the fast bowlers on a spinners wicket?

And if you can bowl out a team for under 200 in the first innings, 4th innings generally becomes a moot point. 1 spinner against Pakistan is more than enough.

If wer arent careful now boult will run through our tail aswell.

Babar needs to bat higher for sure. And, may be Asad was better at 6. Most of the problems for PAK batting (at least in UAE) should be solved if Azhar goes back to opening; but I understand the problem - only 2 slot available & 2 players to accommodate; I am not sure now if Fakhar genuinely needed that break!!!!

Watching an in form Boult is such a joy.

Bilal is basically a tail ender, can't trust his batting. If the aim is to try to stick around then Yasir is a better fit

Pakistans solution will be to probably bring back shan masood to open and keep Azhar at 3, thats the stupidity of our captain and coach.

Asif wont last long against boult here, babar needs to take charge of this inns now.

That'll be one step forward at least - Shan/Azhar is better than MoHa/Imam for sure. Azhar can do his job perfectly as opener and Shan is in tremendous form oblate.

Still think Pakistan will win this one. Gut feeling.

Whatever runs babar will score, he will do it with this partnership probably. He's not really good at playing with the tail.

Lead 42, if we managed another 58 here would be a miracle.

Babar's batting too low. If he's going to be the guy we rely on for big scores (as we do in ODIs and T20s) he can't be batting so low with the tail regularly, just hurts him.

Let someone else bat at 6, whether it's Asad, Hafeez, or a new guy in Saad Ali. Babar should be batting at 5 lowest, make sure he gets to bat with other proper batsman when in the middle.

Asif gone stumped, our pathetic team inns peetering out here

As I suspected, Bilal Asif failed once again. Want to see Saad Ali in place of him in the next match

We have to bat last here and making a mess of this match now.

Thought there was sufficient doubt in that one.
Not one picture was conclusive...

Zafar is miles better batsmen, bowler and fielder then bilal but for unknown reason he doesn't get selected.

Babar probably thinking of 50* here rather then teams needs.

I don't think a batsman should protect No. 8, or even No. 9. In that case, PAK's scoring will stop - Bilal has to justify his spot also.

Pakistan have a habit of wasting young players. He will be selected when he will have 3 years left to play. These so called senior players won't leave until they are sacked.

Fawad Alam and Amir Yamin are the examples.

The irony is that our batting department is weak but we dont give chance to young batting talent even if he is selected. He will just be a water boy until he is sacked without being given a chance. Our bowling department is very strong and we do give chance to young players and they deliver as well.

didnt know there was a soft signal for stumping..

There isn’t.
That should have been not out.
Only one photo/video footage looked like foot was in the air... but if you look closely his spike was grounded.

That should have been not out

He has been given out. Move on

Or, you can write it other way - may be bowling department is stronger, because younger players are given chances somewhat.

But, here you can't blame Ul Haq to be honest - he has selected an U23 opener and giving enough chances.

Absolutely! but i think one of those decisions that cd hv gone either way.. benefit of doubt shd hv gone to the batsman.

on a side note, why is bilal batting ahead of yasir or even hasan..??

Because he's a far better batsmen with 2 first class hundreds to his name

Bilal is another fake all-rounder/glorified tail-ender like Shadab and Faheem, but it is not Babar's problem - you do not protect #8 batsmen.

So Baba runs for single to hit 50 and let Yasir face 4 balls. Pathetic!!!!!

Indeed the blame should be given to the coaching staff and the captain.

I don't have faith in Sarfaraz. If it were in his sole authority, he would have persisted with the likes of Anwar Ali and Muhammad Nawaz.

Mickey needs to give a go to proper young batsmen who are versatile. He has been giving too many chances to the likes of Asif Ali who has failed to deliver as of now.

Sarfraz himself is a compromise choice, therefore not sure how much I can blame him, but Arthur has an inherited problem of operating in Asian condition. For batting picks, I don't think either of them has much to say - there are too many "recommendations" for only 2-3 available spots - they did their best to accommodate & keep everyone happy .... by dropping Haris from ODI XI.
