New Zealand finish Day 1 of 2nd Test on 309/6 following a final session fightback from Pakistan

Pakistan not hearing edges is the sign of a team that is defeated in its head.

Low on energy, not expecting to take wickets but just waiting, defensive, not alert.

Comes from the captain and management.

Time to go.

Naseem will run through a weak batting line up on a helpful wicket to improve his average he’s been wrongfully criticised I feel only bowler looking threatening on a day one pitch.

The bowling from Naseem made that wicket happen no need to play Hamza on these pitches another quality spinner was needed.

A few tweaks like adding Umar Akmal and Haider in the future to the middle order which will help with the scoring rate and another decent spinner Pakistan can win series at home again.

The part-time offspinner dimisses one of NZ's four left handers in their top seven.

Again highlighting the blunder in not playing a specialist offspinner. You'd think Saqlain of all people would know better.

11 came in his debut test match. Look at the runs he is conceding in every game.

Why do you expect miracles from a leggie on this pitch in the first innings? Pakistan are also over-bowling him and expecting the same miracles. Your entire 20 wicket fortunes are on the shoulders of some kid, you should cut him some stick.

End of an era, Pak are the ones now being bullied by NZ!

I think there are fair share of good wickets at domestics. Mir Hamza has taken a lot of wickets, otherwise a bowler like him will struggle even in domestics.

Those were not good wickets either which made guys trundlers like Hammad Azam the top wicket-taker in FC.

PCB needs to find a balance, can't shift from one extreme to another.

Shan should have been dropped for Ris, Sarfraz could play as specialist bat and Ris has the gloves

I also think Mo Wasim Jnr should have played ahead of the trundler Mir Hamza with Naseem and Ali back in the side

Naseem has had Williamson's number all day. All he needed was a little luck. Richly deserved that wicket.

Naseem Shah looks the only bowler likely to take a wicket and the only international class bowler in this line-up right now.

All but having played 15 tests at the age of 21, and without a single reputable bowler of experience bowling alongside him. He is expected to ‘learn’ on the job and he is doing what he can, even though he is not as talented as someone like Shaheen.

Have some shame before writing off the players who actually have something in them.

NZ is usually rubbish in subcontinent. Draw is a humiliating result for subcontinent teams. I have no clue how they played WTC Finals. Sneaky as always.

Sajid over Waseem/Hassan/zahid was a must

Sajid was always economical plus a genuine wicket taking option. Alongside his batting is a big plus

Salman Agha bowled the grand total of 2 overs in 1st Test.

Just tuned in....wowser that was absolute diamond by Salman Aghaa, good delivery.
pitch taking spin on opening day.

If the pitch is starting to assist the bowlers it’s not good for Pakistani batsmen they can collapse even on a flat wicket.

Not much there in the pitch. It has more pace and carry than last one. It was just masterclass from Naseem to swing the ball in the air.

Finally a bit of control from the Pakistan bowlers.

Agha has done a very good job so far.

Afridi was referring to his bouncy hair.
He is an intellectual and has a higher IQ than the average person... it's not easy to understand him.

Lol. He was the former captain, boom boom title holder. Please do have some respect at least for him.

Blundell's bat is always angled towards midwicket. Won't last long against incoming deliveries.

This phase of bowling post tea, is the best I have seen Pakistan bowl this winter season. Quite schocking

All the pacers have bowled well, good job Nauman was left out, but Abrar should had been rested too for Sajid,asNZ had played Abrar easily in last test and now in this test.
Also good to see Sarfraz keeping improving from last match.

that was a very good spell of reverse swing bowling by naseem shah.
the ball got damaged later and umps changed it. anyways the new ball is now due in 5 overs.

I don’t understand Hassan Ali - for Lancashire he was steaming in and seems like he’s bowling within himself in this match.

Surely it should be the other way round. He’s getting movement but is not providing enough pace for it to make a difference.

His knee is collapsing alongside wrong foot position decreasing the pace he can generate

good pickup....but its your pcb's fault for getting such batsmen friendly wkts with less bounce.
if they had more bounce -guys like nasim and hassan ali would be much more difficult to face. even now look at the fields set for the two guys. nichollls is no world beater, i cant remember anytime he took nz to victory or made the heavy runs. I'd say -attack with nasim at one end bowling round the wicket , into the body with close in field (much like what wagner bowls) and also get Abrar at the other end with silly point and fwd sht leg.
i cant imagine him being that flash against a bodyline attack, reverse or quality spin.

Can someone tell me if this wicket is more bouncy (as promised by Afridi)?

Its annoying how easily batsmen can take singles against Pakistan fielders, this has been happening forever.

Abrar was always an average bowler but deserves this chance because of his first test and he was obviously the leading wicket taker

Just think of agha salman is spinning the ball whats their spinners going to do

His knee is collapsing alongside wrong foot position decreasing the pace he can generate

That’s fine and that’s a problem he’s always had albeit maybe more exaggerated now, but he’s not even running in hard- that at least he can control

Seems like other noise created that spike.

Aleem Dar and the Henry Nicholls don't look convinced.

Better field set.

Bowlers keeping it tight.

Building pressure.

The above equals wickets.

I recon Shan is going to score a career saving hundred here and then he will become our Alistair Cook

Shukr hai, a very nice surprise looking at the scorecard, have all the wickets fallen in this last session?

He will make less than 20 as usual, the king of nepotism.
