What's new

New Zealand v Pakistan | 1st Test | Christchurch | Nov 17-21, 2016 | Day 2

Man Southee has been so bad, Mamoon should watch this

He barely swung the ball in England.. Cook owned him in the 4 games they played

well when you drop him off his bowling he will surely own. To be honest pitches in England were rather flat. conditons were not typical England pitches we know. Even their own bowlers didn't make the ball swung much. I have really high hopes from Amir in this game. let's see.

But Wahab isn't playing

Saw that - must have been some thing wrong. Now I see Rahat in the XI, which is the correct decision, but somewhere I get a feeling that they are playing Wahab.

Problem with two similar openers is we are not going anywhere. Sooner or later they will nick one.

Left and right combination also is disturbing the rhythm of the bowlers

yeah unlike dead UAE pitches we can't bore bowlers to death lol. There will be chances batsmen need to put the bad balls away.

MMHS bhai went on his usual rant against Misbah without realizing Rahat is playing...

I do back Misbah when he deserve that - but not when Zulfi is taken to UK or played in UAE; then Nawaz is played for 10 overs & finally when you need to defend 153, not bowling Zulfi.

I think, it might be a correction in CI - I didn't notice Rahat first time - may be mixed with preview.

May as well give Wagner the ball, we're not going to get wickets with Southee.

There is nothing on the pitch if you just bowl it short of good length

Even if we survive this green mamba, some certain posters still gonna cry, only God can help them.

You were wrong in suggesting Wahab would be picked because Misbah likes his settled XI

This is like a UAE pitch unless you pitch it up then you get some shape on the ball

Rotate the strike to frustrate the bowlers. They will start to bowl bad balls. Cash-in on every bad ball. Perfect formula for this kind of pitch.

The pitch is good, the bowlers bowling on it.. not so much..

We probably would have been 1 or 2 down if we were batting first.

Is the pitch deceptive or the Kiwi bowlers simply pathetic so far?

Have not seen one genuinely beaten delivery from both Southee and Boult.

This looks like a beautiful pitch to bat on.. there is no menace in it unless its pitched up... Don't think Amir will be effective here MMHS, his pace is the same as Bolt's

There is score board pressure, also in NZ, you have to consider wind factor. When it blows, any bowler can be twice lethal.

On contrary, I feel Kiwis are a bit wider than they should be with new ball - that tactics can be effective against Warner, but I think against Azhar & Sami, you have to make them play & drive on front foot.

just imagine how much sharjeel would have already scored vs southee...

This is an opening pair that hasn't played even a practice game on these pitches... Southee should be ashamed of himself

Lines all over the place, Pakistan looking good for a big total.

Man Southee has been so bad, Mamoon should watch this

Southee has been mediocre for a while but is an automatic selection based on his reputation.

Henry is a much superior bowler now, but he's vastly underrated by the NZ management. He should partner Boult who is getting back to his best after his injury.

Get Bond out there... a 45 year old Bond is still better than Southee and Boult..

Are you impressed with sami ?

Much improved player, but I'm not sure if he's the ideal partner for Azhar on UAE/Asian pitches. We need a more dynamic opener on those wickets.

For overseas conditions, this is our ideal pair.

Jason Holder was hopping these batsmen around in UAE conditions... this should worry the NZ attack.. they're not as good as made out to be

You were wrong in suggesting Wahab would be picked because Misbah likes his settled XI

No, actually opposite - Wahab should be never picked in NZ - not at CChurch, Hamilton, Dunedin, Auckland & Napier; may be at Wellington he can be effective with wind blowing behind. I was a bit upset looking at Wahab's name (may be mistakenly) & felt that, it can only be Misnah's choice. In ideal case, Wahab should have been picked for NZ tour - a seem-all-rounder should have been picked.

There is horses for courses - I was some one posted 10 to 12 times why Wahab should be must for UAE & Oval; but not here.

Azhar and Sami leaving impeccably so far.

Don't worry about RR guys. Need to frustrate bowlers and then cash-in on bad balls.

Pak should not worry about RR and grind out these Kiwi pacers.

If Pak manages to lose only 1 wicket by lunch time, they will win this Test.

Amir and Rahat will tear away Kiwi batting on this green track.

Lmao a debutant A/R being brought in to replace Southee while the ball is still new.

Oh this is an unseen bowler, he will cause us problems.. our batsmen have seen videos of Boult and Southee but this guy will be a surprise

Aman - are they using Kookaburra?

You suggested that Misbah would not drop Wahab and that he would pick him. You said Rahat was suitable for these conditions and deserves to be selected or Imran ahead of Wahab. I understand that you mistakenly thought Wahab was picked but you still suggested that it can only be Misbah's choice, but Rahat has ben picked and you were wrong on that point.

Guys I feel the second part of this session will be the toughest to face, pitch might quicken up and movement will be quicker.

Leaving out Henry for Southee was a huge mistake, hopefully Southee is dropped after this Test.

He shouldn't be playing Test cricket.

Lol I saw Misbah padded up already sitting in the dressing.. this shows the guy's commitment ; he knows it can go south anytime, and even though he is no.5 he's still padded up if all else fails..

What a guy man

Read it this way - Wahab should be 5th choice; but I saw him in the list - may be my mistake, but my comments stand as he was in playing in XI; which can't be Arthur's choice, can't be the Manager or selectors - therefore, it can only be Misbah's choice, as he has a tendency of playing with same team. I think, like me many others thought same in the thread where Misbah quoted that the XI was already selected.

Then it's really a poor bowling effort, I must say. PAK pair had survived the opening bowling & Kiwis are already to the medium pacer.

Very poor considering this team hasn't played a practice match

Man I love the running between the wickets.. this is a welcome addition to our opening pair

It's 98 overs (7 hours) day - if Kiwis doesn't have a good start, & PAK plays to take advantage, Kiwis will be in trouble after tea. I think, Yasir'll trouble the batting side, if he has 450 to defend. Teams like NZ must target couple of wickets with new Kookaburra.
