What's new

New Zealand v Pakistan | 1st Test | Christchurch | Nov 17-21, 2016 | Day 2

Well there is a flat 'flat' wicket that is in the UAE, Srilanka and India.. and there is a flat wicket that is pretty much the standard all over the world... you'll get one like that in every series, where the likes of all the greats feast in like Kohli, Smith, Amla, Joe Root..

Now Root played in his home ground, but he didn't do alot besides his 200 in Edgbaston (was it?).. Younis is not quite Root's level, but one good innings/match winning innings per series is still a trait that he has along with all the other top batsmen in the world..

Early to rule out a YK special this series

Well you expect more from an experienced player like him who according to his fans is an ATG already, and he is performing better in the UAE than he ever has so he's not past it either.

If he's not outperforming the likes of Root now and is below such players, then it says a lot about his ATG status.

Well yeah he will come good if the pitch eases up in either this match or the next one, but once again he has been found wanting in difficult conditions.

Plenty of bounce in this pitch ... Wahab should have been playing !

Sohail will huff and puff 5 overs and fall over.

Exactly, Wahab a must here. Have the management misread the conditions?

Thing is we don't want to play 3 lefties thats the mentality as well, that could be why Wahab has missed out imo. But your best players should be playing no matter what so if that is indeed the reason why he was left out that is very poor!

250 is on if these 2 keep batting like they are.

Amir, Sohail and Rahat will surely be a handful in these conditions and taking a lead will be tough for NZ against these 3 plus Yasir.

Hope Sohail/Amir get a 5-fer.

I'd rather see YK fail then one of Fawad/Amin/Akmal. He will retire soon anyway. Hopefully.

Result of this match doesn't matter. Our batsmen have been exposed. The question is will our bowlers get exposed too?

You have a biased view on Pakistan. What is there to expose?? - Any batting lineup playing in those conditions will fail 5 out of 10 times, it has been raining for sometime, cloud cover and green wicket, if batsmen are going to play in those conditions without loosing wickets, how else they will ever get out??

Pakistan best bet was Sami and Azhar getting through first session. They were going ok, they both got good balls. Babar and YK played really bad shots for these conditions. They were trying to target new guy, with expensive shots, really not needed at all :(

It's not personal. I have never rated Younis and I have always had issues with people rating him above Inzi and MoYo.

Mohali made me lose faith in Pakistan cricket but not Younis specifically.

Just because you don't rate him above other Pakistani greats doesn't mean Younis isn't an ATG. Anyone with 33 test 100's and counting, earns that distinction in my book.

Yes, but our batting issues are bigger than greentops.

I really appreciate your love for cricket that u are actually sacrificing your sleep for a team which as per your undeniable assessment has been trash over the years and is getting worse with each passing day.

Why is everyone blaming the batters?

They have had precisely zero innings to adapt from Sharjah to a greener, faster, bouncier pitch.

This is what happens when you arrive far too late for a tour in challenging conditions.

I agree to the fact that babar should be batting at no. 6. India is playing sharma there to make him permanent for test cricket. Babar is the brightest talent and i stick to that. Furthermore i have seen some namoon saying misbah is better than YK. YK has a ton in NZ. how many misbah has ?
Batting is not just about performing overseas you have to be a world beater at home matches too which misbah never will be and never was. He is a great captain but no way near younis as a batsman, his technique is weird. He only has 2 3 shots in his bag. Younis batted at no. 3 throughout his ODI career which was wrong for a batsman who is a better spin player. He didn't hide behind a middle order just to get 45 of 80 balls. Period.

Not just 33 tons bro. 33 tons in 111 matches. Find me another player with such a ratio of century with innings and then talk. He is better than moyo, inzi and also the great miandad. The greatest batsman Pakistan has ever seen. Mohali didn't make you realise what misbah is ?
it happened twice or thrice UA took single on first or second ball and misbah blocked the next 4 5 deliveries in mohali SF.

Younis Khan has now failed in 12 of his last 14 Test innings outside Asia.

Does one ton per series immunise you against the consequences of failing in all your other innings?

If thats a double ton which wins you the entire test and draw the series, Yes it does immunuse

Here goes PP's expert's technically best asad shafiq. No one would talk about how many innings he has failed.

What a horrendous display from our batsmen.

And there is Sarfraz walking down on the pitch on the first ball for some reason...

Indeed, if a player plays a match winning hand every 4 tests, and if all 11 players in your team did that once every 4 matches, you will never loose a series.

I now see why bowlers like Hammad Azam take wickets for fun in FC cricket. Our batsmen can't play medium pacers  Grant Elliott is a better bowler than this guy

This situation is made for Sarfaraz's type of batting. Hustle and bustle, keeping the score board ticking and not getting bogged down.

"This is unbelievably disappointing by Pakistan. They were so disciplined outside the off stump in England, but now it seems like they've switched cricket bats for fishing rods with the way they're fishing outside off"

Asad ki technique ki hype hi hai.. never comes good when needed most

One thing I like about Sarf is he won't bat like a nightwatchman like our opener and number 4, if the ball is there to hit he will hit irrespective of situation.

This is a very crucial partnership, make or break the inns.

NZ batting is no great shakes, so even 220 odd would keep Pak in the game.

Misbah and Sarfaraz usually add 40-50 runs before one of them perishes.. seen that too many times

If we are to get out lets get out quickly, so that we utilize the juice in the pitch and have our superior batting line up dismantle Kiwis

Beauty by Sarfu. He is looking the best bat so far..

If the pitch eases up, they will score. However, they got exposed on a greentop and that's the point.

Who in their right mind will bank on Pakistan to bat well on a green top? I am not sure what's your point here.

Mickey Arthur needs to grab these fools by the neck and tell them to stop throwing away their wickets !

Amir is coming ahead of Yasir, because of his experience ;-)

3 wickets are thrown away, 2 on good balls and Shafiq as usual was shaky at the start, well this time of new session :(

Misbah will or should not be happy by the performance of lads

Hillarious, Pakistan doing a pretty good impersonation of Australia here. Collapsing in an embarrassing heap!

I mean this getting beyond words, we are the most weird batting team, we can face best bowlers with ease but when we are in the mood no one is better in gifting wickets to most harmless bowlers than us. We do it the fun way. What the fun in getting bowled out by a good bowler, expect the the unexpected.

Even if Pakistan scrape 150, if the pitch stays like this they'll be well in this game.

Mark this post even, NZ don't strike me as being in good form, could easily get blown away themselves in the 2nd innings.

Yasir will be no use on this pitch and our fast bowling is too ordinary to make use of any good bowling conditions.

BTW this is what happens when you tour alien conditions with absolutely ZERO PREPARATION !!!!!!!

Was the WI series in UAE really necessary ??? :livid: :livid:

So what's the plan by misbah now, keep on tuk tuking and wait for the invitable, why even bother to score any useless runs, it's like stand in middle of railway line close your eyes and wait for the train to get you out of you misery by wrecking you apart. What a genius.

He's hoping to stay around for Astle's bowling :misbah

Look at this pitch.. actually this pitch started off as very battable and it has gotten worst as the day has gone on... its actually the opposite..

The first 10 overs it was easiest to bat, and since then its gotten really tough to bat on..

Look at Southee bowling that line, this is the 40th over

Misbah in a catch 22 situation here Whether to go for it or wait for the spinner. I think he shd try to at least try to keep the score board ticking. No point occupying the crease the pitch isn't going to deteriorate even in next 10 days.
