What's new

New Zealand v Pakistan | 1st Test | Christchurch | Nov 17-21, 2016 | Day 2

Look at this pitch.. actually this pitch started off as very battable and it has gotten worst as the day has gone on... its actually the opposite..

The first 10 overs it was easiest to bat, and since then its gotten really tough to bat on..

Look at Southee bowling that line, this is the 40th over

The pitch has stayed the same, the bowling has gotten better as the day has gone on. Southee bowled rubbish in his first spell, and right now he's bowling brilliantly

Gifted 4 wickets to a trundler :hammad

we'll that makes sense.....

After Marus North, Robin Peterson, Joginder Sharma, Paul Harris, Bishoo, Tahir and countless others; we can finally add Mr. Grandhomme to the list as well !!

:14: Aren't we generous !!!!!!!

Not really, Boult and Southee's second spell was more effective than their worst.. I'm not really proud of our shot selection.. I've been watching the match since the first ball, it wasn't jagging around like it is now

He's hoping to stay around for Astle's bowling :misbah

for that he have to pray that they can atleast play 30 overs. And the more time we spend without scoring runs is actually playing in nz hand because it will only make the pitch easier to bat, that's more like it misbah, and thats what any sane person should do in this situation.

The more extravagant movement is probably because of the now overcast conditions than the pitch. It was bright and sunny when play began

You only need 200 on the board to be competitive in a Four Day match.

Colin inching towards 5 fer on debut , another average bowler getting better of Pakistan batting

This is becoming in of one interesting battle to watch... Southee vs Misbah

Good ball. Misbah looking for that full straighter one to skin over mid on. I know exactly what he's thinking

Naye larko ki hosla afzai ka zimma humnein hi liya howa hai..

Misbah has played 69 test and 50 as Captain, remarkable. Captaining Pakistan for 50 matches is a big big achievement, we don't have that much patience, hard to see his record been broken in couple of decades.

Pakistan bowlers have to come out of bang here , to make a match out of it , or they will have to bat really well in second innings , need to 5 to stand up on day 3 and 4 .

New Zealand just made a HUUUUUUUUGE mistake, they are celebrating but each wicket only brings them closer to their impending doom at the hands of the beast :rahat

Ok we had a collapse in the first innings fair enough but that doesn't even remotely mean the match is over, as a matter of fact it's quite far from that !! Let's look at the positives !!

1) We aren't batting 4th in this game so that in itself should be an advantage.
2) The Conditions are tailor made for Swing and the strengths of all our seamers is to move the ball in the air.
3) This was essentially the first innings for us ON THIS ENTIRE TOUR.... NO PRACTICE GAMES NOTHING !! if we somehow manage to scrap a few runs and limp to 150-175 (somehow) we can #1 get to attack on this lively pitch and #2 we would have a chance to set a tricky target for NZers in the last innings.

Although chances of coming back from such a situation are slim to none but hypothetically it can be done. I believe the boys wouldn't just roll over without a fight, this is not how they are as a test team..... I am expecting the lads to come out all guns blazing in the remaining 3 attempts.

Thora buhat maar ke out hojao, I want us to have a go at the Kiwis tonight

Amir got an unplayable delivery

He didn't even try to cover the line although like you said it still was an unplayable delivery. Reminded me of the one that he actually bowled to Mitchell Johnson in that 2010 test match in Edgbaston.

I think Misbah will eventually be found out by Southee.. he might not have a good series here in NZ..

Obviously we are giving ourselves tasalli.. who knows NZ come out to bat on the same pitch and blast 300 in no time

Wicket is so green its hard to see from distance, with no Sun most of the day... Not a very nice well come to Men in Green...First warm up match got washed out, then 7.5 EQ and now green wicket and wet out field, no brake for tourist :((

None .. however if u are posting from Kashmir which I doubt you can watch it on ptv sports.

Thanx Bro..I am not from kashmir,though..

Off late no NZ matches are shown live in India. .mainly bcz of time differences

Just hanging in there without scoring will not work for too long. Score few and then allow Pakistani pacers to use the pitch while it's helpful.

Other batters did not show the grit Misbah is showing, that's disappointing... Is Misbah getting better with age? - These are really tough batting conditions, he has faced 100 balls (16 of 50 overs) ...

Not able to play shots means ball is still pretty new even after 50 overs....It just going between bowler and keeper mostly, wicket is green and they are landing on seam, no wonder its so new :(

We are going no where with this !! The score isn't moving man :(

I am mentally preparing for a wicket now

Yeah almost like that. But not in Edgbaston it was in Headingly, second ball after lunch

Misbah's stay at other end probably hurting PAK more. All the tail-enders are trying to survive so that Misbah can get some runs, which is fine on normal condition, but I don't think it's the right approach here, as they are just not tight enough to survive. Get after the bowling, get 150 & use the wicket when it's fresh. Any team doesn't lose Test matches in one innings - target should be to limit Kiwi lead as low as possible & bat well 2nd time.

What is the logic behind blockling here? Pitch is flattening and they are just blocking.

There is no need to panic, we are in this situation because batsmen tried to put bat on ball instead of leaving or defending good deliveries.

Just defend good balls and wait for a bad delivery, trying to force runs will cost us a wicket.

Lasting 60 overs or more in the first innings played outside Asia for months is probably par for the course.

Pakistan is 125-7 after 53 overs.

160-5 would actually be pretty good.

Time for Misbah to really go after the bowlers. Yasir is a decent tailender

Only in New Zealand wickets some unknown bowler pops up,remember Simon Doull against India raking up wickets.

We have made Grandhomme look better than he really is
