What's new

New Zealand v Pakistan | 1st Test | Christchurch | Nov 17-21, 2016 | Day 3

Good session so far. Next two sessions Pakistan need to make sure they get solid partnerships . Pakistan need at least couple of big partnership.

The opening is the key here again for Pakistan, Azhar Ali is the man for Pakistan hopefully Sami Aslam support him on the other side. They both missed out after a decent start in the 1st innings. It was wonderful session for Pakistan 7 wickets who had expected that ? I must say the clouds did help alot excellent conditions for bowling.

Pak won that session for sure. Seeing yesterday's performance with the bat then New Zealand only three down by stumps at the end of day two I'd have happily settled to be in the position we are in on Lunch at day three. Bowler's did the business talking early wickets well supported by the fielders, we didn't drop a catch for once. Seems as though Mickey has been working on this since taking over. The batting has to perform now scoring 300 at the very least, anything beyond that would be a bonus. New Zealand have a good bowling attack for these conditions and will come strongly at Pak in the second session. Match is evenly balanced at this stage.

Great first session. Now we need to score some runs instead of just blocking. Nothing releases pressure better than quick runs. We should look to wipe out the lead quickly with the loss of maximum 2 wickets.

270 should be the target as anything over 200 will be a tough chase.

His innings on debut at Edgbaston was definitely something to be proud of. Earned the plaudits from everyone that witnessed it.

Not just the first innings. He was the only batsman to stand tall amidst the second innings carnage. Showed great guts while opening in alien conditions.

Time for Pakistan to negotiate this session , key will be making sure they get runs , blocking will not put any pressure on Kiwis.

200 all out, why am I not surprised?

This is what happens when you invest resources into to angreez who are 'technica'l batsmen or big hitters.

Things aren't going to change till they start investing in Indian, Pakistani and SL cricketers, who are generally far more gifted batsmen and have a much higher ceiling than most of the hacks we've had representing NZ.

Rahane is a far better batsmen than our so called 3rd greatest batsmen of all time and you could make an argument for 2nd too :)))

This de Grahndhomme may only be medium military pace but he does move the ball around and bowls good areas.

By your logic, England should stop playing cricket and throw away angraiz Bairstow, Cook, Root and Stokes

You are negative here , Kiwis have edge in this game. Pakistan not scoring much , around 70 runs lead is not that small.

I've seen it first hand... most of the SC cricketers I've seen have far more flair yet it's the technical and big hitting European Kiwis who end up in the A and prem sides.

The system is flawed in that select players on techniques and don't identify on talent and potential. These SC cricketers are far more naturally gifted but have poor temperament and play expansive shots too frequently.

Amir's figures were the best overall, but Sohail was clearly the best bowler.

When it comes to figures in an individual Innings - Wickets trump everything and Rahat got the most wickets.

Amir had a very good economy whilst Sohail but in a Herculean with tons of overs - however, since Rahat picked up the most wickets, he will rise to the top of the pack when it comes to "best figures"

Look at it this way - at the end of the game when they hownthe match summary and they show the bed batting.and bowling figures for each innings - Rahat will be the one on the summary leg for the 2nd Innings with 4 wickets.

They need to rotate strike at least. Just be a bit more Positive.

Can't just keep leaving the ball or dead batting it.

One will bring 2 as Babar Azam doesn't inspire any confidence with the flowery wafts away from the body.

I know what you mean, but average is most important and Amir's was the best.

Pakistan aren't going to lose this, they won't stuff up twice, they were clearly under done in the first innings.

Our batsmen have no excuse for their failure in the first innings.

Anything over 220 and I'd back Pakistan to win.

Yes SC people are warm blooded. Lol

Yeah :))

But it isn't close, most of those guys have far more talent than the hacks we've had representing NZ...

If only the buffoons we have in NZC were able to see this talent and develop it.. maybe we'd have some Kohli's, Rohits and Rahanes... Instead we have Lathams, Nicolls, Andersons and Neeshams..

Take some runs by rotating strike. This will take Pakistan no where.

No doubt Kiwi's are bowling well but you have to try to knock the bowler off their line and lengths after such a prolonged spell. Just sitting there block after block on a helpful pitch isn't going to get you far. Sooner or later there will be a ball with your number on it.

What's pak plan is it's not like they can draw this by batting like snails, it's seems like they are just trying to delay the invitable which is getting out by one with your name on it without even trying to score, this is not a pitch where bowlers will get tire easily or pitch will suddenly ease out, so they have to find a way of scoring runs in these conditions somehow other just occupying the crease without scoring runs is useless on this pitch it will only add pressure on batting team and bowlers feel more and more freedom.

What PAK is doing, if they can manage it, is the best way to set this match - take out the Kookaburra of first 25 overs. But it will go horribly wrong like Sharjah, if couple of wicket goes down & scoreboard gets stuck.

Sami is getting a bit stuck.

I like his defence but he needs to score when you get a half volley.

Lmao they really reviewed that...

No chance that came back enough.

Horrible review.

Pathetic review - one of the worst I have seen. Against on field decision, it would have been an off-spinner's dream to hit stick from that wide.

And WY thinks it was a good review taken.

It has to be up there, I have no clue why Boult even appealed..

This is getting us nowhere. If a wicket falls we are effectively -58 for 1.

Despite playing around 15 overs...

There's still enough there for the fast bowlers.

Ball is still jagging around.

You need a bit of luck but you also can't just keep hanging around and letting the bowers dictate.

I think Pakistan need to think out of box , promote sarfaraz to number 3.

Why? This is just 2nd day & NZ bowling 2nd time in 2 days - if this pair can take PAK to 100/1 in 45 overs, last 9 wickets can add another 200.

PAK will need around 200 to win.

Excellent batting from Pakisfan. Defensive, patience and composed.

Just putting more pressure on yourself with this approach. 20-2 after 20 overs won't look too clever.

And now i fear the opposite, after creating all this pressure on themselves by this snail pace batting one of these two may get run out by trying to steal a single which isn't there, and they have had their issues with run outs in past, and both are not the best runners.
