What's new

New Zealand v Pakistan | 2nd Test | Hamilton | Nov 25-29, 2016 | Day 5

So far so good, 52 overs negotiated. Had it been a 3 Test Series, I am sure PAK would have made a better show in the decider.

This why I hate 2 Test series - it almost zero chance for tourists in reasonable contest.

Sami should wake up they are giving single to azhar and maintainîg him on strike

On a side note it's at least heartening to see our batsmen scoring some runs on this tour. Should give them some confidence before the Australian tour.

Yaar yeh Sami tou bilkul hi fariq hai.. Shukar hai ODI team se nikaal bhar kiya issay

At the end of the day the team management will call it a fighting save.

They can say whatever they want, they can't really fool anyone. On top of that, people don't really have a scapegoat this time around in the shape of Misbah/Waqar.

Knowing our fans, the captain here will bear all the brunt and the management will go unscathed.

Commies trying their best to make it interesting. I am really ashamed by this meek surrender.

The captain at the moment is in the middle and guiding the partnership and i guess must take the brunt.

Hahah NZ commies are saying they are thinking about this target because they are running quick singles LOL

Not being able to even put full tosses away, having been there for over 150 balls, tells me that there is something seriously wrong with Sami's game

Wth? The whole leg side is empty except one filder and Sir Sami can't find a gap.

You cannot smash a leg stump full pitch delivery after playing 160 odd deliveries then you should just hang your boots

Whoever starts defending Azhar after this...... I AM NOT TAKING YOU SERIOUSLY AFTER THIS SHAMBLE OF A PERFORMANCE AS A POSTER !!

This is the most shameless surrender I've ever seen in my life, and I've seen cricket in the 90s when they used to fix left, right and center......

Even if BD were in pak position, they won't have good down without having a go at win, and nobody can deny this, the best thing for nz is to don't even think of taking a wicket, because these two are their tickets to series win.

I am not saying it cant be done ... see my problem is this...
All day long pakistan have struggled to score even 2 per over with 2 set batsmen.

Now suddenly they will score 6 an over at ease ?

This reminds me of how Akmal used to come with required run rate 8 per over and was asked to perform a miracle.

I feel for Akmal actually watching this.

And i feel for Babar Azam and Sarfraz who would be so frustrated at this and asking them to play 7 an over in last session of test match is so damn unfair.

Hawkeye your darling Mr. Sami Aslam is a really really limited cricketer !!!

Sami scoring every fifth ball make it 3 at max and it's goid,he has to give the strike back to azhar.

The captain at the moment is in the middle and guiding the partnership and i guess must take the brunt.

Captain is atleast trying to be aggressive and playing some sort of shots. Sami's on the other hand has been a strokeless effort so far. I don't know what kind of approach is this one. Totally clueless. Don't know whether it's Azhar who is keeping him restrained or it's the natural game of Sami that is hampering him at the moment.

They really need to start scoring at 4.5 an over from now on. WAKE UP!

At the end of the day the team management will call it a fighting save.

They are fighting well here. You are looking at one side of the coin - look at what NZ doing. Asking is almost 6 now (forget about 48 overs, maximum 45 overs is possible within the time) & Ken has put almost an ODI fielding, when they are host & leading 1-0.

Put 3 slips & a gully with cover open & ask PAK players to drive on the rise by pitching it up - if they are good enough, asking 6 will be maintained; if not slips will get busy. What do you expect - NZ will keep 4 men on line & bowl short of length staff, a feet outside off, PAK openers to go Afridi style? This game is not street cricket.

I'd be very very angry if this partnership ends in a runout, 2-3 close calls already.

Already Azhar was the culprit in Edgbaston, getting Sami run out which triggered a collapse which cost us the game when the 2 were going so well.

That's always the fear whenever Pak bats do well. They handle the difficult period and then throw it away to a nothing delivery or runout.

Yah ,doesnt make sense but drawing this test match doesnt really serve any purpose for pakistan. Imagine 200/2 and they shake hands after 88 overs.

Azhar can always ask Sami to go for his shots

26 and 35 strike rate is not acceptable in any form or in any situation, simple is that, even if you trying to save a match.

I endorse this strategy fully as the template for chasing a win.

They are pseudo trying to chase now. I mean they block the balls which are surely workable for the sake of blocking and acting like they are showing intent by these single calls

I dont know how you can equate this to chasing a win.

Have a look at our runrate in Sharjah and Galle chasing a win.

This one has no intent.

Its more like, well we will see in last session.,, if not, draw is okay.

Its 6 now , it wasnt 6 when it started. How on earth you can defend a runrate under two after 55 overs on a pitch which ia quite ok to bat. Whatever field you set ,this is extremely poor batting. I know its not street cricket but its not 70s anymore.

MMHS - Pak has all 10 wickets in hand. Why not slog for few overs and see how it goes! They can go back to defence if they lose 2/3 wickets. Only 45 overs remain now.

Sami has to be one of the timidest cricketers we have EVER produced in our history

I can understand not going for it in Dubai Test against SA at 2010 because team was just trying to get out of abyss of spot-fixing and humiliation that we had found ourselves in after the disastrous England tour.

I can again understand not going for it in the second test against NZ in 2010-11 at Wellington since we were already 1-0 up and didn't want to give any sniff to NZ to stage a comeback.

But not going for the win in this game, when you are 0-1 down and have to win to level the series, not forgetting the fact that you have to protect your ranking points as well as salvage your pride, would be something extremely disappointing and cowardly.

Maybe the coach and management thinks chasing over 6 an over in the last session with wickets in hand is akin to an ODI chase but I am sorry that's not how it works in Test. You just can't shift from 1st/2nd to 6th gear immediately. At the moment, it seems they are either happy with the current defensive play or they will try to do an impossible in the last session and then fool the fans by saying that we went down fighting and salvaged a draw. I am sorry but that would be unacceptable.

THEY HAVE TO START SCORING NOW!

If Azhar and Sami bat for 10 more overs , you can almost call this game off.

Never ever in my life i wished so much for pak batsman to get out, and never ever i have seen such a limited batsman in my life either.

These are not Sharjah and Galle conditions.

Sami seems like that kid who always wants to keep batting just because he owns the bat..

Remember we lost that 3rd test at Edgbaston in 15 minutes of brainless cricket which also meant that we cd only draw the test series when we wd hv won it had we applied our selves a bit more on that after noon however having said that we still shd hv shown some intent here. Even if we were scoring @ 3 rpo we wd hv been bosing this game.

I have to say these NZ commiees are damn annoying !! No insight in the game whatsoever and it seems as if NZ are the only team playing this game

Yaar khuda ki kasam buhat nafrat horahi hai is batting se abhi

This is now at 6 & 10 wickets at hand, so looking rosy. It might not have been 6, but with 7 wickets at hand & 45 overs to go & last 20 of those with 2nd new ball, isn't a better proposition either ...........

I keep telling that as long as we don't provide enough overs to take Draws out of the game, Test cricket will die for boredom. Some of the most exciting Test matches were played between 1900 to 1946, when they used to play time less Test & the run rate was far better than 1950s & 60s, when days were started to get limited & teams behind started to bat with pad for 1.5 run rate (eventually resulting the invention of LO cricket - first in Gillette Cup/Sunday League, then Internationals). Simply because of that run rate, Sobers is cherished so much, because he batted at around 50 SR, in an era, Barrington & Hanif batted at around 25; average RR was 2.0 & Geoffrey Boycott was aggressive opener.

Sometimes, reverse psychology works better.

We fans who lose their precious sleep certainly deserve better than this. Wish if we fans could sue them for this gutt less surrender.
